This was very interesting, even though I have no intention of going full-time RVing. I like their honesty and how they don't sugarcoat the expenses, which should be appreciated by all who intend to get into this lifestyle. Beyond that, they seem like a really cool couple that I would love to spend time with!
Glad you enjoyed it Beth. We are just trying to prepare folks for the real costs we are seeing. RVing can certaining be done cheaper with the proper changes in style and the equipment you use.
That was the best and most detailed budget presentation I have watched on TH-cam. It best details the cost of living the RV life style. This helps people evaluate what it is really like to full time. Your choice to have a large class A puts you in the high end of expenses due to size limitations. You also tend to move a lot. Both costly but perhaps more enjoyable if you can afford it. Great contribution to the RV community and potential RV buyers.
Wow, thank you for such a detailed and gracious comment twobarrys! In case you missed the update to this video, with even better and more up-to-date budget info, check out episode #173 at: th-cam.com/video/qwxpr0XbDeA/w-d-xo.html
Will be full time RV’ing in 17 months when I fully retire. Planning now and binge-watching the vlogs to learn from the veterans” like yourselves. My RV experience will be different from Myles but HaRVey will suit me - complete reno in the works in the meantime. Thanks for your detailed spreadsheet/reality check! Be safe!
Great job with the expense report, you guys are definitely on the high end but it is great to see the high and the low. You keep the educational and entertaining videos coming, the subscribers will follow.
Thanks for the kind words and stopping by! We are going to make a few changes this year, but expect the same outcome due to some planned tire purchases, and upgrades. It's the price of entry and admission to this life. We published these slightly "embarrassing" numbers to help others realize how it can add up. We only publish once per week, because we know our subscribers time is valuable. Episodes are usually of our travels to places we think others would enjoy to see. Next Sunday is our last three adventures in Salt Lake City Utah before heading northeast to North Dakota for the FMCA Rally in Minot ND.
Please don't be embarrassed about putting your whole financial life out on here you sure opened up a lot of peoples eyes who think that it's cheap to just buy a Motor home and travel. You two are doing what a lot of us would love to do but, can't afford too do, you sure are very straight forward and honest about what it does really cost to RV full time, and a lot of us really thank you for this info. You're a very honest couple for opening up like this to us. You really opened up my eyes to the real cost of full time RVing.
Thanks CC. We figured we would put out our actual numbers so folks can decide for themselves where they can improve, or change, or delete costs to make it work for them if they desire to travel like we do. And as you pointed out, if I had my dream machine, a Prevost Conversion,.....I would be looking for even fancy places! That will be my NEXT life........
Y’all are amazing! I’m so glad I stumbled upon your video and subscribed! I’m a 20-something woman who works full time from home in an expensive city. I’ve always wanted to RV to see the US, but I also wanted a class A for me & the dogs, and wanted to stay in nicer rest stops for my own safety. This was straight to the point and eye opening on what it’ll cost me! Thank you! Looking forward to checking out your other videos!
We just found your channel. Thank you for being so open and helpful about starting the RV journey. We are counting the days until we can start and we truly appreciate all of this information! Maybe you can do an updated version after 3 years because the prices have grown so much every year. Again thank you so much!
@@OurJourneyInMyles oh my goodness! That’s amazing! Thank you so much! We’re binging 😜 all of your videos! We truly appreciate how open and honest you are on the real life of the adventure of RVing and the expenses. 💕
My husband and I are currently in Minnesota - picked up on the accent right away!! :) We are about a year into pulling the plug, selling the home on Prior Lake and going full time into RV'ing. Super excited. This was a great help and waiting for the spreadsheet.
Mark and Sue, Fantastic job and awesome information. My wife and I will be on the road soon, we are currently in the research mode. Your video is extremely informative and the best we have viewed so far. Keep it up and thank you for helping new travelers make smarter decisions.
Thanks John. When Sue & I get settled down in our Ft Myers Resort rental for the winter, starting in January,we are going to publish a more indepth update to this video. We have also learned a lot while working on this.
Loved watching your video. We sold our 2003 Pace Arrow 36B two years ago. I miss it some days but not the expense of ownership. You two are doing a real service to anyone thinking of going out in an RV full time. It's not cheap, but can be a lot of fun. Be safe and I will follow along on your journey.
Thanks Doug. I am sure that most people that ask for the spreadsheets can just change the numbers around a little bit to suit their situation and travel style. The price of admission to this life is not free,.......and once a person runs the numbers on their travel style and expectations, they will know what it is.
Thank you both for sharing all of this great info. ! You provide a lot to many of us who may be contemplating such a lifestyle. You've given us a blueprint regardless if we were to get a huge diesel or a class B or whatever. Hope you are doing well in this crazy time...take care.
Thanks for watching! We are hoping that folks just adjust our costs as needed so whatever your budget and style of travel ends up to be, you can find a way to make it work!
Hi guys I appreciated giving what I might to expect to spend if I start doing R V traveling or buying a bus like retired Greyhound bus as a RV type.I plan to pay cash on a good used.So all I got to pay for expenses like mobile cable ,camp ground rental for water and power sewage, And maps for camp grounds locations , insurance ,Google to help where the dangerous bridges or over pass danger so you or we wouldn't hit them. All rest stop locations,R.V. parks so we can park or vehicle to park our bus RV.I thank you for all the deal or dealership for RV and bus repair if needed .I thank you for your valuable information and experiences.
Very nice of you to share this info and making it available. Its useful for those thinking they will be saving on rent, etc when in fact doing it responsibly may be more expensive than you might think even taking everyones different approach into consideration. Thanks again.
It a big decision to start this life full time after a more normal "secure" stick and brick life. Glad to help provide the real life numbers for folks to decide if it will work for them. It is so worth it for the change and adventure in one's life. BUT,......you need to know,. ...that it is only cheap if you are just going "somewhere budget friendly" to live in an RV. If you are actually going to be touring and TRAVELING in an RV to specific, popular places, in warm climates when it is cold elsewhere,....you will be paying the premium for that privilege and blessing. We are very thankful to be able to do this.
I enjoyed the video very much. I like the tips on insurance, costco and maintenace. We are considering going fulltime on RVs once my wife is able to retire. Thanks again and keep up the good work folks!
Wow! Thank you for all your input .. I always said , I want to get an RV and travel the states .. your video was quite an eye opener ... I look forward to following you guys and collecting info for when I make the move .. Enjoy your travels!! God bless stay healthy and Safe!!!
Once a person has the budget sheets to work with, you can change the numbers around to match your situation and expectations! The email link to request the free budget excel spreadsheets is in the video description area below the video.
I really do appreciate all this information you have handed down to people looking to go full time like me and my family. About the true RV as a cost, when you're done, don't sell it, rent it out full time only to recoup costs. You can make good money.
You are so welcome guys! We are already averaging a NEW, inflated, current, repair/maintenance budget of up to $1000/month year around to keep the rig running. Things are so complex and fragile on RV's, we would never rent it out. When we finally are ready to downsize, we will sell it and take our lumps! Merry Christmas!
Love your channel. Thanks so much for doing this! We hope to get on the road full-time next year and you are providing invaluable information! (and we bought the E-Bikes for this already!)
Thanks so much Phil. We do try to pass on what we learn because we continue to learn from vlogs that we follow as well. Just about the time I have it all figured out I'll be ready to move back into a house!
BTW- Like you, we hate maneuvering our big ol coach in small spaces so we always fill the diesel tanks in easy to access truck stops. We just got the TSD Logistics fuel card. We saved $60 in two fuel stops since we got the card. If you follow RV Love they had a nice video and write up about it. Highly recommend.
We follow RV Love, and I trust them. They did a great job discussing the TDS Logistics fuel card. Because of this vlog they did, we signed up, and will be using the card when we move again in November 2019. Looking forward to the savings!
Kip from Eastern Kentucky. Really enjoyed your video!!!! You two are doing something my wife and I would love to do. I’m 63 and retired. Life is to short and we need to enjoy life with what time we have left. Thanks again and God Bless.
We have no regrets,...........this has been an amazing adventure so far for us. But I like to warn folks that you both have to be on the same page, like each other's company and be pulling the wagon together hooked to the same side,........
Great job! Really enjoyed it and especially the detail. I don't RV but I love living vicariously thru you. And I learned thru my career as a maintenance manager that depreciation is a big deal so that alone was a huge gift to people considering this life style. FUN! Thanks for doing the work and sharing. I'm subscribed!
Miles! GREAT NAME. The depreciation really is the only depressing thing about RVing that you need to "make peace" with. It is actually a double whammy. The money you paid is draining away. In a house the money would be appreciating. The key to this crazy life is to understand, you really can't have it both ways. This lifestyle is not for everyone, but make no mistake, it really is something to behold if you are ready for the ride.
Late to the party here but thanks for the budget info, so many channels seem to have such tiny budgets so it was refreshing to get an idea of what a decent budget looks like. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! We don't do a lot of fancy things,....but the costs do add up when you are not a camping club member, like belonging to Thousand Trails. The repairs and maintenance on the big rigs is steep. It seems the best bang for the buck is a nice fifth wheel and a solid truck! We just prefer the Motorhome Experience!
Awesome informational video. Great eye opener for new-be's. I'll be retiring in May, & my wife has been retired almost 2 yrs.,& we have been wanting to rent an RV for a month or so for starters, before we do anything drastic. Appreciate your time & efforts to share your journeys. Thanx
I haven't since I was a kid , but as a family we used to travel a lot in a 49 Ford panel truck pulling a medium trailer.. I'm 70 today, and can still remember pulling into a campground and hooking up the electric power and really enjoying it. The fresh water was nice to have too. Today, it's way more expensive than back then. We still managed to enjoy the lifestyle. I think the roughest was spending the winters in Baker , Montana. That was a brutal winter. 1958- through 1962. The mosquitos would eat you alive in summer. The 30-60below weather in winter. Still enjoyed it because the people there were exceptionally nice.
Great video, Mark. Glad you’re enjoying your Glamping. This is what we work all these years for...... to spend it and enjoy life to its fullest. I came over from Bob and Pearl’s youtube channel. Congrats to you and Sue. Rob
Thanks Rob. Getting such a fantastic mention during Bob & Pearl's last video on their channel "Next Exit" was like having Bill Gates tell someone you make a good computer. We are very thankful for his shout out, and hope our new subscribers stick around for our adventures.
Really appreciate the time you guys took in your adventures doing things without a great emphasis looking for bargains. Its been good for me to see a good budget. thank you also for the reminder to add in an exit strategy as the 8% devaluation and maintenance cost to casulty/liability insurance is a very large part of keeping things honest or at least grounded in reality.
Thanks for the kind comment Sam. We have updated this video two additional times since this original one. I am thinking about doing a 4th one based on the new realities out there of added fuel and rental costs!
My dad talks about shopping there when he was a kid! He says he can still remember the way it use to smell! Lol, memories can be funny like that sometimes. He tells me about how the location he went to was quite an old building back then when he was a kid. Crazy to think about! & just how old that building has got to be by now.... Hoooly cow. Haha! Pretty cool. (The location my dad grew up shopping at was in Grand Rapids Michigan) My comment is pretty random, I know! Sorry about that lol It's just pretty crazy for me to see that name somewhere other than just listening to the stories my dad has always told me about back when he was kid (Ever since I was very little) Thanks for a great vid! Subbed! My fiance and I are hoping to be living in our future fifth wheel by this time next year 🤞 Very helpful!!
Just a FYI....if you are in an accident your insurance collision coverage includes towing if your vehicle is not driveable. If you hit an animal or vandalize and your vehicle is not driveable then the insurance comprehensive coverage includes towing.
Thanks CBKZ,.......we are as honest with our information as we can be because we are too old to remember any stories we might have fabricated along the way!
Just wanted to add, thank you for being "Midwestern"! Honest, sincere and real. I know people from the Midwest (I live here) and we usually are very trustworthy; sometimes too much and gets us into trouble because we trust everybody. Thank you for opening your hearts, life and home!! You guys were very real in your video!
Thank you Thank you. I was under the misconception that I could afford to travel like this, stop when I wanted, go where I wanted. When I saw the price of Myles my planes vanished. Even though I own my home in Cincinnati, if I sold it, I probably could only afford a converted Volkswagen bus. I am just totally shocked at the amount of maintenance you have. The FEEs also shocked me. You are clearly out of my league, although I HAD considered us upper-middle class with 6 figure income, NO DEBT, and some savings, also about 6 figures. Now I realize we will continue to live in our house and drive wherevever we want and stay overnight in hotels. I think I will view some other videos like this. You have been the most honest person so far. I hope you have many many more "myles" and a very Merry Christmas.
Hey John. Didn't mean to discourage you. These simply are our costs, with a late model, large, fancy unit, with an old guy driving it that can't fix anything himself! Many folks do it way different than we do. There are many excellent YT channels reporting other travel styles. Check out the channel "I'm Not Lost I'm RVing" episode entitled "The Truth About How Much It Cost To Live & Travel Full-Time In An RV!" Good luck,...
@@OurJourneyInMyles I am retired now 5 full years. I shod draft horses for 47 years. Closed the doors and bought a 27 ft travel trailer used. 2016 and paid $11,000. I owned my pickup out right. Medical doesn't cost me anything. I am a disabled vet and receive $879. every month on the 31rst and my social security check $1,252.00 each month on the 2nd Wed. giving me $2,131.0 steady income every month. I bought a college apartment washer and spin dryer for $107. and when done the clothes are 95% dry so a short warm day on a clothes line has them ready to fold and put away. I have had this washer for over 2 years going into year 3. It has paid back the $107. many many times over compared to the expense of a laundry mat. Being a Vet (Vietnam) I get medical for free and medication for free because my income slides under the line for co-pay. 2012 I had open heart surgery to replace my aorta valve and didn't have to pay one penny. Medicare and the VA covered the bills. I can go to any VA hospital in any city or state all over the USA. I go to an area I like and set up for a month or more. This way I can see all I want and this time period allows me to receive 2 more checks and replenish my costs of traveling. I keep 3 to $5,000. in my savings for unexpected. I also am able to add to that each month because my cost of living is low. A month aof groceries runs between $250. and $300. a month. I buy my water by the case and usually runs around $4.00 a case. My trailer will be paid in full by April reducing one more monthly expense. I do continue to pay this bill but it now goes into my savings . In other words I am comfortable living the way I do so instead of blowing this extra money I save it. I keep my truck up on all maintenance and keep my tires good so it actually saves me money from breakdowns. I have triple a "PLUS" which means if I do break down, they will tow my truck but also tow my trailer. I pay this in full for the year. I like staying in campgrounds rather than boondocking or walmarts. By staying at least a mnth I get a better rate than if I paid daily and I am in a safe environment with full hook ups. I have owned a class A (an old one) 2 5th wheels and a slide in camper so I am comfortable with most situations. For the person who said it was too expensive to do I am showing him it can be done in comfort for around $2,000.00 a month and even less if you want to eliminate some of what I pay for. Bruce Matthews
Awesome!! I love this video as we are contemplating the same type of retirement adventure. I would start tomorrow but we have a few more years to work at 58 years of age. But I love and can relate to the clock is ticking! Thank you!
It has ended up to be expensive. There are of course many ways to decrease the costs, but in each of the styles of touring or camping, you can only do so much. The point of our video is to get folks to think all the choices through before settling on the equipment they buy and style of camping or "existing" they want to do.
Stick around,.......we have plenty of stuff we are working on! The FMCA Rally Convention video is what I am working on now. The RV Basic's school episode came out today.
Thanks for the kind words Dave. Sue & I were embarrassed when we first started to see the numbers coming in, but really couldn't see changing too much along the way without a drastic change in our "preferred" ease of living. We are planning an update soon that will capture some tire costs and additional repairs in November. Hope to at least get some good episode video for my money!
Love the video! We are currently working towards a full time life style. Sounds like we used to live relatively close! We are currently living in the Quad Cities.
Great video. We travel with 68 ft of Motorhome and trailer. We are not full timers but do travel 5 mos. a year. It does get expensive, but so worth it traveling and meeting people like you all at the campground. Keep up the good videos
Your welcome Richard. If you & your travel partner are on the same page, this will be an adventure you don't want to miss. Life goes by quick. Wishing you the best!
Right on! After 40 years of work I want to be YOU GUYS! I want to have some fun out there and I know it's going to cost me a few bucks. Been saving for this my whole working life. Time to live a little. And not going to break the bank....
Yep, I watch a bit of TH-cam but that's about it for social media. I swore 3 things off when I retired and "minimal social media" was one. But who knows, I might change my mind when I get on the road next month....
GREAT VIDEO, we thoroughly enjoyed this video and it was the first one I had seen from someone RVing in the Tourist Mode like you mentioned, which is what most folks probably imaging when they are thinking of retirement and traveling in an RV. We have watched most of your videos and it is more than evident you go to fun places and enjoy your travels and if it is ok, I think I would like to reference this video to our viewers on our channel in one of our upcoming videos as I think it paints a very nice picture of the"Retired Tourist RV Lifestyle" that many folks may be wanting to try out... I am sure we will meet you somewhere along the way and I am looking forward to that day.
We would be honored to have you refer viewers to our slightly "out of control" travel style. You are ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON, when you say many people project and imagine they will always be in tourist mode once they go FT. Let me tell you, if we had to work full time yet during the week, there is NO WAY we would have the time and energy to be tourists. It is exhausting week after week,.....but someone has to carry the torch., so WE have volunteered! We are able to do this for a number of reasons. First is that we have zero debt. We sold our house, and banked the entire proceeds for our "Exit Plan". Doing this allowed us to be "all in" mentally, without worrying about the stick & brick taxes, up keep, shoveling, grass mowing, furnace failures, etc. while we are living in the RV. (The RV has tons of OTHER things I now have to worry about. ) Who needs that burden when your a 1000 miles away for the 5 years plus we may be on the road? We are blessed with EACH having a pension. So glad I was a union mechanical engineer and Sue was a union art teacher. I am on Social Security. I selected a young wife, (62) and have to pay the price of no social security check,.......yet. We saved at least 20% of our combined pay checks, and built up a great 401k, because we were told to by all the older smart people we knew! So glad we listened. If your young, DO WHAT IT TAKES TO GET A PLAN GOING! Seems like one day I was 29, and the next day I was 65! When I saw your latest episode where you call out "I'm Not Lost I'm RVing", I went and watched it and thought OMG this comparison they did was fantastic. Too bad they didn't know about us,....we could of been their poster child of the AARP Senior Citizen "Retired Tourist RV Lifestyle". This would be a great Facebook Group! Thank you for the offer of a shout out. Your featured video link already made a difference......
Thank you for the video I think you guys are great and God bless you both and be safe on your journey I will be watching thank you for being my friend take care Keith McNeil. 😁💗👍
Very interesting video for a French camper who is lucky enough to own an American motorhome, and who likes your way of life Thank you for your honesty and the ease of sharing your expenses with us. Here in FRANCE we don't talk so easily about money! ! Bon voyage to you 2 ENJOY AND TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
Your welcome. When we were young, we would have been "Mark & Sue, Boondocking Adventurers". Now, in our 60's,......"Just Tourists!" We are OK with that! Hope the pocket book holds up!
Thank you for the candid video and all the work preparing your spreadsheets. Just researching if this this lifestyle is for us. Your video is FANTASTIC! Obviously fuel has more than doubled today as well as many other cost but having a baseline is invaluable. Again thank you and all the best travels for you in the future, .
Hey Ed! Make sure to check out our much more current video on "The Cost to RV" and send for or free Cost To RV spreadsheet. th-cam.com/video/rLfb1uTk5BE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CfKp2n40U-GV-21K Request spreadsheet by emailing us at: ourjourneyinmyles@gmail.com Put "RV Cost Sheets" in the subject line.
You two did such a good job on this. Thank you so much. This has been in the back of my mind for a while now. I'm not quite there yet.....not retired. I own and operate and B & B in Southern Utah but your information will help me plan for the future. I look forward to watching your other videos. Safe travels always. Lezlie
Thank you both for “keepin’ it real“! You did a beautiful job with the entire budgeting process as well as the “reality check” it gave me and probably to others as well! As I watched your video I took into account that you both are dealing with a “monster bus“ and that your expenses would clearly be unique to those with Class A’s. You have not changed my mind about RVing, however my thoughts (at 67 years young 😀) are to be more of a destination RV’er with minimal travel as I have already seen the country as well as most of Europe. But the downside to “Destiination lifestyle“ is of course, not moving something that has an engine! 😱 And just like us humans if we don’t “move it“ we will “lose it”. 😂🤣 So, in re-evaluating my future, I truly should be considering a TT or a fifth wheel. Unfortunately, either of those choices elliminate my being able to enjoy an exclusive resort environment since most of those do require you to have a Class A in order to be a resident. Specifically the one in Naples Florida. You have not “dashed my dreams”, but you definitely have “tweaked my thoughts“! LOL!😂🤣 I have subscribed to your channel in full appreciation of all that you have shared in this one video! Whether or not I go back to sticks and bricks or downsize to a Tiny Home I will be forever grateful for your “Wake up call“ that may guide me onto the right path!! I wish you both safe travels & thanks again so very much!! 🥰🥰
Our Journey In Myles : You’re welcome and I will keep my eyes peeled for all of your upcoming videos and I am playing catch-up right now with your previous videos! It’s a rainy day here in Central Florida today and I will be enjoying your channel! 😍
Mark you are so patient! My husband is very handy and will be able to do some repairs when we are ready to hit the roads in a few months but he's not very patient, he's full blown Italian😊! I showed him this video... See how patient Mark is? I love all your tools😎 it's cute! You and Sue a great job, thank you for showing how it's really going to be like.
Rhonda,........sounds like you have the hard part done already,...you married a handy partner! If he's full blown Italian, immediately tell him your going to start making him his favorite dish, and it will be done in two hours. He will be whistling while he works! Well,....that would work for me at least.
I do the same go slow stay a month or two at one place . Right now I am in Palm Springs yes it's hot My rig has 3 15000 thousand AC on top Plus a 12.5 Onan gen But I am in the Senior park . Love it Play golf We do Napa also and Oregon Coast
We are going to be full-time RVing, so watching all the videos to learn all the pros and cons. We were very surprised at how much it costs to go full time RVing. Thanks for sharing!
Check out Stacy at "Im Not Lost Im RVing " for another excellent, amazingly comprehensive look at RV expenses reported by MULTIPLE RV Vloggers and channels. Thanks for giving us a look.
Hello there. I am a previous owner of Thousand Trails. Just something to consider when looking at Thousand Trails is the parks are no longer private, they are now open to the public. You're correct in the research of East Coast and West Coast , the exception is Texas, there are a number of campgrounds in that state. Good luck to you
Watched the whole video. Found you through Next Exit. Have to say the ending was awesome! The two of you talking off camera...too funny. "I hope the microphone was on." "Did you check it?" "Yeah, it was on." You guys are awesome! Thanks for posting! Happy travels!
Thanks for the kind words Brian. It means alot. Next Exit has been sending awesome people to our little channel. It sounds funny now, but the question about the microphone at the end was an honest "panic attack" caught on film. Just spent 12 hours editing the first of two episodes on our FMCA Rally we attended. Wish someone would have told us to go to the FMCA RV Basics School BEFORE buying a rig, and starting out our Full Time Adventure. Would of saved us a lot of time, money, and energy instead of learning everything "on the fly". In our video, we will tell people to not make the same mistake we did! The FMCA RV Basic's class & Seminar Rally is a must do for Newbies as well as Oldies!
My biggest single expense is Federal Income Tax. Boooo As far as Thousand Trails goes in 9 years at 30 to 40 dollars per night (location dependent) I have saved more that $54,000 over the costs of my memberships and dues. One year in particular I decided to try to stay at Thousand Trails to the maximum. I left Michigan October 1, 2016 went south of course, then west as I wanted to spend the summer in Washington State, which I did. On October 1, 2017 I was in Benson Arizona and had spent just a little over $1000 on RV Sites which included my $566 Thousand Trails dues for the year. I have never boondocked or stayed in a parking lot of any sort. BTW there are 4 Thousand Trails parks in Wisconsin. The Trails Collection adds another 100+ Encore parks for $199 a year. I do not have the Trails Collection. I have put a total of 160000 miles on the Truck I use for towing. Of those miles 62,000 have been towing my home on wheels. I domicile in South Dakota, the best state not live in.
Wow,...what an adventure. Sounds TT has been the ticket to savings for you. We will continue to look into it for us,..... South Dakota does have awesome things to see though!
I have a 45 ft DP and don't have anything inside my tires. I spent 30+ years in tire manufacturing and know tires. The odds of a blowout is less than 5% and a front tire blow out is around 2%. If you're diligent in inspecting them monthly and pull them off to do a complete inspection yearly and replace at 7-10 yr old, you drop that to less than .01%.
That is great news for me to hear Roy. I will worry less now! We are at Minot SD FMCA Rally right now, and I am attending various Michelin Tire seminars. Lots to learn.
love this couple, funny man, great wife good life. very informative thanks for sharing your personal business about the finances and cost of on the road living. God Bless you on your travels.
Found you through Next Exit, found them through I'm Not Lost I'm RVing. My husband and I made the plan some time ago to go full time and we are leaving in 30 days. I keep finding hidden TH-cam gems that really open my eyes and help me to have realistic expectations to this lifestyle where I can turn around and maybe temper my husband's lofty dreams a bit :) I've subscribed, thanks for the great content!
Another Gem you might try is RV Deim-TH-cam. These guys literally are buying a Class A as we speak, and are starting full time life, while both are still working. Michael will work from the rig, but his wife Tiffany will be flying out from where ever they are EVERY week. Hope you stick around and come with us on our adventures so you know where to go, and where NOT to go!
We are planning to do that when we get to a CG that is larger, and much quieter than where we are now. Plus,......we have to wait for a nice day! We are actually looking forward to it.
Hi Sue and Mark, Must say that I especially enjoy Mark's sense of humour (spelling is correct for an Australian). You both are well enough rounded to know what you want to do, it being your life so just keep doing what you to do, Sylvia and I will continue to enjoy watching your exploits.
Thank you! 😃Love having long distance viewers. We follow a few of the GREAT youtube channels that have spent a month or two RVing in Australia. You live in a fascinating country,.......
Glad it was helpful! The RV style (and the cost of the rig) you select is the biggest one time expense. The parks you decide to live in will be your second largest expense per month. (Private Campground or Thousand Trails Membership?) And finally, the costs to repair & maintain it will be your third biggest expensive per month. If your accurate with your figures up front, your RV life will be much less stressful for you and your partner!
Thank you so much! Julie and I are about to purchase our first Class A in California. Have not found the right one yet. We are 10 years in age behind you guys...so, by the time we are you, hopefully, whatever we are in will be paid off...just like your rig is paid off! Great job and thanks for the spread sheets!
@@OurJourneyInMyles Will do. Thank you for mentioning this...I probably would not have thought about it. We have been renting a small house on the ocean in Cayucos, Ca. They are selling it for $2.1 million. When it sells we gotta go...already spent $40K in rent...we'd rather own a Class A then continue to pay the enormous rents out here on the coast. Thanks again for your channel and we will watch all your videos! Much respect to you and Sue!
Appreciate your candor in sharing expenses. I know some people will be taken by how much YOU spend but you also made it clear in the video that we all have different lifestyles and not one size fits all.
Good morning James. You are correct that most people "get it". Our travel style is out of convenience, INEXPERIENCE, our age, and our preference to be close to the areas of interest where we will be touring. I DO NOT look at this life for us lasting forever, not because it isn't absolutely awesome, but due to the inevitable health issues. While we are still good enough physically, I want to go when I want, where I want, and be able to stay as long as I need to. I tried to include as detailed as practical all the costs we included so folks can pick and choose what they either agree or disagree with. That's about all Sue & I can do. Thanks for watching our video,.......
Hello. A big thank you for your time. GREAT VIDEO!!! My wife and I are planning to go full time and I am regularly doing research and viewing videos as we gear up for the next stage in our lifes. Again, GREAT VIDEO!!!
We were full time for two years in a 38 foot Tiffin towing a car and we used Thousand Trails/Encore extensively staying over 500 nights with an average cost of $9 per night including the original purchase price of our resell Elite membership. For full timers TT is a no brainer. We spent two winters in Florida and used TT up to PA and over to IN and OH and down to TX. If we are ever able to travel again we will be reactivating our TT membership.
Glad to oblige. We are thankful most of the people viewing this video understand that our elevated costs are due to our age, physical condition, equipment selection and travel style preferences.
My wife and I full timed for over four years. We went out west all the way to Calif. stayed the winter in Arizona. We came back to western New York for the summers we went to Florida the last two winters and the ended up buying a house Lanai pool three bedrooms great home. We ended up selling the house and motor home to a guy and never lost a dime. I'm going to follow you guys from now on you seem like very interesting people Good luck for now happy traving
That is awesome! We aren't sure what state we will end up in,.....we hopefully still have 6 more years of travel in us. That's when I will need new tires again!
Thank you Winston. I really am a lucky guy to have Sue in my life. If she wasn't on board with the Full Time RV Life, I would be home puttering around in my basement workshop. Frankly,.....that was getting old. She always puts a skip in my step!
Stay tuned to the channel. I am going to do something I said I will never do again because it was so much work,................I am going to do another update to our cost video series before June 2023, which will be our 6 year anniversary on the road!
I am 68 years old I've been full timing for 8 years . We are Tourest our selves not campers . Our first Class A was a 2007 Winnebago Tour it had 19000 miles 38 ft 3 slides 400 cummins It was nice Them I wanted bigger I bought a 2014 Newmar King Air it belonged to a Nascar Driver it had 69000 miles 4 slides 43.5 ft 600 cummins with a Tag This was in like new condition we got it last year. But I just stumbled onto you channel .
It is a FRONT tire "run flat" tire safety system gadget that goes inside the tire. I will be making a video of our experience having them installed in December 2019. See the NIRVC video: th-cam.com/video/mR7jnmV3jxQ/w-d-xo.html

Thank u so much for such great detail on the costs! I’ve never come across another RV living video that breaks down the cost of living. U guys are adorable:)
Glad it was helpful Tammy! Thanks for such a kind comment. We are trying to do our part to make sure folks are ready for the costs associated with whatever style of RVing they envision they will be doing.
Good job on the video. Been full-time 12+ years. Just a note on buying TT or other membership from a few years ago. At that time, resales bought on the "open market" had oppressive restrictions on actual utilization vs purchase from the actual provider. However that may have changed. We know that some previously "membership only" parks have opened to the public, possibly at higher rates but in an attempt to survive. Happy travels
Thanks Harry. Would love for you to pick around on the ones that may interest you. Sue & are are mostly just travel vloggers. Just skip the ones on watching grass grow, and zero in on the ones in places you would like to travel to!
Hi Mark and Sue, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. The information on the spreadsheet is extremely helpful in deciding what is best for us.
hi there my name is thom,an my wife is michelle,we love camping, both retired now,age 67 an 63,we are in Michigan Detroit, the motor city, thank you for your insight to the future of camping full time, which we want to due, both a little under the weather with health, but never the less still willing, hope to see more of your video`s,doing what you love, thx again ttfn.
Thank you so much for this video! My husband and I (also from Wisconsin) plan on full time RVing when we retire...already bought a coach, a Newmar Dutch Star as well, but still have about 8 years to go before retirement. We started planning, so your information is very helpful to understanding the cost involved, things to think about. I have subscribed and look forward to your future videos.
Hi Sue and Mark...We just watched your “RV Costs” segment, and wanted to tell you that we loved it. We are both 66 yo, retired, and thinking about full-time RV’ing. Thanks to you guys, we are becoming more aware of what we are looking at in the future for our new lifestyle. Again, thannk you so much for your spreadsheets. One thing we wanted to mention ( to make you aware and better protect yourselves); my husband is retired from the Atty Gen’s Office as a Consumer Protection Investigator, and (while he was working), had numerous complaints about a business you mentioned in your vlog..”Thousand Trails Campgrounds”; consumers unable to get what they wanted. Just wanted to mention that to you. Thank you for sharing your RV knowledge with us, and we have subscribed. Happy to see you both living life after retirement.;-)
Thanks for stopping by! There are many great vlogs on the Thousand Trails Campground System, and it definitely serves a need for a very large segment of RVers. We do not choose to belong so we can come and go or stay as we please when we please. This freedom of campground selection comes at quite an additional price to stay per day. Everyone has to decide for themselves what is important.
Hi! New subscriber here :-) Thank you for taking the time to educate us with your experiences which can help with our future experiences as well :-) I’m a huge fan of anything safety related so thank you for mentioning about the tires 👍🏻
Your welcome. When I first started out, I was looking to Bob & Pearl from the TH-cam channel "Next Exit" to provide guidance. After one year, we finally had some additional data for everyone to use, so we published it. So glad Bob further crunched the numbers to show where the two of us differ in our spending. On his channel (Next Exit-TH-cam) he illustrated the two different styles of traveling that explained the spending spread.
I also use St. Brendan’s Isle (SBI) in Green Cove Springs, Florida for my mail. They give very good service and that’s super important. Thanks for the video!
Great content . I had a class A, but it only went to one place in Mexico, so I bought a house there, then another house next door. You did a good job of pointing out the reality of RVing. I have said that if I ever got into RVs again, I would rent one and not worry about the maintance and storage costs between trips. Happy Trails!
Thanks Mike. We have learned over the last 6 months that most folks have appreciated this data, and can then massage it to fit their lifestyle. This allows for a quick way to get a pretty good ballpark on what YOUR spending will be for YOUR travel style before you drive 1 mile in a rig you haven't bought yet!
Our Journey In Myles At 54, I have a bit of time, but I am planning now to make it easier when the time comes. I’m more inclined to do a class b, or one of the “Global Expedition” based rigs. Do you have any regrets in going with a large class A?

Good really accurate breakdown of costs for fulltiming. It surely is not cheap but a real worthy adventure. We just sold our second RV a newer A class while it still had good value but it cost us 8% loss each year we owned it. I believe after the 3rd year of ownership the percentage of loss will increase more every year. We are settled now in a Carridge house in SW Florida due to medical reasons. Nothing life threatening but less stressful. When you have decided you need to settle again your body/ age will tell you the RV part of your life is over.
Thank you for authenticating the 8% sliding scale for depreciation,.....so we can all plan better for when that time comes to take that hit. Sue & I totally agree that it will be our health what is going to tell us when it's time to hang up the keys. Certainly not boredom,......
Good information - I've been looking for this. I took a 'snip' of your spreadsheet ($75,315 yr total) and will look at more carefully. I thought we'd look at doing this maybe 6 months out of the year. Not a Class A but perhaps a travel trailer or 5th wheel and we'd have our tow vehicle to run errands and sight see with. It does look like some of your expenses will occur regardless such as groceries, dental, cell phones, etc. My idea is to try and separate those things from the 'RV costs' such as campsite, fuel, RV depreciation (excellent point made here). Thanks for providing a good look at the financial side of RVing. Cheers!
Sue is a great team player! Thanks for stopping in,.......we have some more repair videos in the works,........and then our 30 month cost update video,...........with MULTIPLE "move it along nudges" included,.....in slow motion!
Thank you for sharing your experience. It's a great realistic reference on what it costs to live in an RV. Not as economical as advertised or percieved.
Equipment choice is the major decision that will predict many of the future costs across most categories. So will travel style vs. sitting in one spot style, and the frequency of travel and moving. RV loan vs no loan? Who is paying your healthcare, you or your previous employer or medicare? And the big one,………depreciation,……....can you afford to sell your RV when done for SUBSTANTIALLY less than you paid for it, or even worse,......getting nothing for it,…..when done with the adventure? With a little study and soul searching, one can get a "ballpark' of the costs to expect. Thanks for taking the time to watch our cost video segment.

As someone considering the full time rv lifestyle, I found this fantastic! Thorough and well done!
Glad it was helpful Sean! We are getting ready to update this video AGAIN!
Be safe!
Make sure to capture some of that reno progress on camera,........never know when the TH-cam Bug will hit you!
Thanks for such a great & kind comment.
We just found your channel. Thank you for being so open and helpful about starting the RV journey. We are counting the days until we can start and we truly appreciate all of this information! Maybe you can do an updated version after 3 years because the prices have grown so much every year. Again thank you so much!
I am literally working on this today! Look for an update in mid June 2023.
Good luck!! Pulling the pin is the hardest thing,........but if you have a good plan,......you will have way less bad surprises.
Thanks for taking a look. Make sure you see our latest video on RV Costs that was just published June 6th 2021!
You two are an awesome team. Best wishes for continued sharing of life's experienced.
Thank you Wongee! Will do! Happy New Year!
Me too
Listen to every word!
Thanx
Sounds like a good plan to try things out! We jumped in head first! Got lucky, and it is working for us,.......
The lifestyle is like no other. It's not for everyone,..........and you have to remain flexible with your travel plans and ambitions!
I remember Woolworth’s in my home town Detroit I used to go there quite a bit and sit there eat ice cream or club soda.
We had plenty of Woolworths in Milwaukee WI as well,....
(The location my dad grew up shopping at was in Grand Rapids Michigan)
My comment is pretty random, I know! Sorry about that lol
It's just pretty crazy for me to see that name somewhere other than just listening to the stories my dad has always told me about back when he was kid (Ever since I was very little)
Thanks for a great vid! Subbed!
My fiance and I are hoping to be living in our future fifth wheel by this time next year 🤞
Very helpful!!
Just a FYI....if you are in an accident your insurance collision coverage includes towing if your vehicle is not driveable. If you hit an animal or vandalize and your vehicle is not driveable then the insurance comprehensive coverage includes towing.
Thanks! I will check into that with National General!
i never leave messages...got to say though...you guys are most genuine human beings on youtube
You are so welcome David! My mother was a wonderful person in my life for 93 years,....some of it rubbed off!
You are clearly out of my
league, although I HAD considered us upper-middle class with 6 figure income, NO DEBT, and some savings, also about 6 figures.
@@vthorseshoe Thanks for this detailed breakdown of what can be done to make this so affordable. Sounds like you have a great system!
What a great channel. You address so many of the questions my wife and I have as we prepare to embark on our own near full time RV journey.
Glad to help Wiley! Thanks for stopping by.
Awesome!! I love this video as we are contemplating the same type of retirement adventure. I would start tomorrow but we have a few more years to work at 58 years of age. But I love and can relate to the clock is ticking! Thank you!
Best of luck! Keep working on your plan to launch. You will be amazed how fast the last year goes!
Holy cow! The fulltime RV costs in a class A rig are just out of control. God bless you for affording this lifestyle!🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸
It has ended up to be expensive. There are of course many ways to decrease the costs, but in each of the styles of touring or camping, you can only do so much. The point of our video is to get folks to think all the choices through before settling on the equipment they buy and style of camping or "existing" they want to do.
@@OurJourneyInMyles you did a great job, don't get me wrong. BTW the driver of the Class A rig must need a special drivers license, no?
@@OurJourneyInMyles Obviously you can afford it through the grace of God, so more power to you!🙏🙏🙏
Can’t thank you enough for all your info and help! We’ll be e-mailing you soon! Pleasure meeting you guys!
Stick around,.......we have plenty of stuff we are working on! The FMCA Rally Convention video is what I am working on now. The RV Basic's school episode came out today.
By far the most realistic accounting of full-time RV lifestyle costs I've seen yet. Thank you!
Well then you know why we only come back in summer!
Great video. We travel with 68 ft of Motorhome and trailer.
We are not full timers but do travel 5 mos. a year. It does get expensive, but so worth it traveling and meeting people like you all at the campground.
Keep up the good videos
We aren't complaining,........just reporting the facts to folks to be prepared. Logically,....something this fantastic has to cost a few bucks!
Soooo helpful! Thank you! We are in prep and wait phase but looking forward to follow in your footsteps.
Wow! What a great TH-cam handle name. You need to start a channel,....of course, .............then you will not have time to golf!
Yep, I watch a bit of TH-cam but that's about it for social media. I swore 3 things off when I retired and "minimal social media" was one. But who knows, I might change my mind when I get on the road next month....
Just started a few weeks ago myself!

Glad you enjoyed it Bruno. Anyway I can help folks get off to a good start RVing makes it all worthwhile!
Thank you for this! Tourist mode! I love it. That's what attracts us, too. Thank you for sharing.
Again thank you and all the best travels for you in the future,

You two did such a good job on this. Thank you so much. This has been in the back of my mind for a while now. I'm not quite there yet.....not retired. I own and operate and B & B in Southern Utah but your information will help me plan for the future. I look forward to watching your other videos. Safe travels always. Lezlie
Glad to have you joining our adventure Lezlie.
Great video. I’m just starting to investigate RVing. Husband 60 working til 62. I’m 66 so will be 68! Hurry up and wait! Thanks for info!
Good to have the time for planning. It took us two years from start of the "idea" to driving out the driveway!
Thanks for the thoughts JJ. Keep an eye peeled for our updated budget video coming out shortly in 3 or 4 weeks.
Right now I am in Palm Springs yes it's hot

Check out Stacy at "Im Not Lost Im RVing " for another excellent, amazingly comprehensive look at RV expenses reported by MULTIPLE RV Vloggers and channels. Thanks for giving us a look.
That was great! New to this lifestyle so I'm still learning--this was very helpful!
Glad it was helpful James,......and didn't scare you away!
Hello there. I am a previous owner of Thousand Trails. Just something to consider when looking at Thousand Trails is the parks are no longer private, they are now open to the public. You're correct in the research of East Coast and West Coast , the exception is Texas, there are a number of campgrounds in that state. Good luck to you
Roger that BG. Thanks for stopping by.
Love the drunken Sailor analogy. I am a drunken Sailor, and can totally relate!
You and me both! Sue and I are getting better. We are only slightly tipsy now,.....
Watched the whole video. Found you through Next Exit. Have to say the ending was awesome! The two of you talking off camera...too funny. "I hope the microphone was on."
"Did you check it?"
"Yeah, it was on."
You guys are awesome!
Thanks for the kind words Trojenell,......I have started to work on the 6 month update to this video!
Do a full tour of your RV and you’ve got yourself atleast 500k views within a couple months
Looking into purchasing my first motorhome. Very informative!!! Thank you.
Good luck!! If your looking to buy used, make certain to have it inspected by a certified RV Inspector. It will be the best $400 you spend,.....
I love the name you picked for your coach! Myles !
Glad you like it! He has been in the family three years now already. He is the opposite of Sue. He is very high maintenance.
Thanks for the encouragement. We are so glad we took the plunge.
Great to hear about your Thousand Trails experience. Thanks for giving us a peek,.....
Our Journey In Myles you’re welcome happy trails
Thank you for sharing this level of financial planning. It is a great budgeting education.
Glad to oblige. We are thankful most of the people viewing this video understand that our elevated costs are due to our age, physical condition, equipment selection and travel style preferences.
Don’t get why anyone would dislike this! Yet, a small percentage did. Thanks for the podcast

What a nice couple! Love you guys and thank you for this very informative video 😁
Thank you for the kind words. Stay tuned,....next week is Teddy Roosevelt National Park!
Thanks Donald. We are going to always be asking people we meet at CG from now on about TT. Maybe we will join someday,.....
Good Job, Good quality video also. Guess I need to watch the rest of your vlogs
Thanks Harry. Would love for you to pick around on the ones that may interest you. Sue & are are mostly just travel vloggers. Just skip the ones on watching grass grow, and zero in on the ones in places you would like to travel to!

Great choice on the Dutch Star Lisa. Watch for our upcoming 6 month budget update!
Awesome video and thank you for sharing, we are considering Rving across the country when we retire in a few and this video is very helpful.
Thanks Alex.
Can’t thank you enough for this video. For my wife and I, it’s a great intro to “Full Time RV-Ing” Thanks Again

Hi! New subscriber here :-)
Thank you for taking the time to educate us with your experiences which can help with our future experiences as well :-)
I’m a huge fan of anything safety related so thank you for mentioning about the tires 👍🏻
Thank you for this video ❤️
I also use St. Brendan’s Isle (SBI) in Green Cove Springs, Florida for my mail. They give very good service and that’s super important. Thanks for the video!
They have made is very simple. They are very reliable. The web interface is super easy to use.
Great job adding the depreciation expense! Thanks for the video.
I hated being the party pooper,......but we all know,........it has to be in the equation.
Whatever works for each individual is the correct answer Roger! Thanks for checking in,.....
You Guys are a Hoot! I love that Mark "no longer uses Hair Club for Men." I was wondering. HaHa!
Your have correctly picked up on the fact that "The Hair Club for Men" no longer has me as a customer. I now belong to a CPAP Owners Group.
No not embarrassing at all. Well received and very informative. A great service to us on the fence, and trying to learn everything before we jump in.
Great info! Looking forward to starting my journey!

Cheers!

LOVE the “move it along” nudge at about 4:25! Watched it several times for the laugh! TH-cam sent me here. I think I’ll stay for a while!
Really good information. Thank You!
