    You guys will get through it . Keep telling yourself that it’s gonna be long and hard but you will get through it. It’s just a fact. I’m a Christian so my hope came from God and Daniel. I imagine insomnia as a big rock that you are chipping away at bit by bit that eventually won’t be there. Understanding the the brain is warning me and that the thoughts mean literally nothing really helps me.What is going on in your head is not the reality so also remember that. I’m holding your hand whoever is reading this and we are getting through this❤

      @@melissasanpablo3493 try not to feel hopeless because it’s the hope that gets you through. It was a number of things I did and it was a journey for sure. I think some major things were exposing myself to what I had learned to be fearful of to unlearn that fear. So if I was really panicking and had crazy anxiety about being awake I would say “ okay I’m gonna face this wakefulness and really expose myself to it until I realise there is nothing there”. It’s literally PTSD over and over again and it grows as we continue to have bad nights. I faced this by realising that many people have sleepless nights but because I mad so many bad ones , my body was continuously scared that would happen again every night. So I was like “ okay I’m anxious because of these experiences , I have to now unlearn this”. Befriending wakefulness will help a lot. You will be tired and want to sleep properly. But in the long run, you will get that natural good sleep again so try to let that keep you going. Just have a good time even when anxious and face this anxiety head in like “ yeah I have anxiety but I know why and I know I’ll get through it. Also I had to like get out of my head. Like I was really overthinking sleep and seeing it as this big deal because I wanted it so much. I was just looking at it like this huge thing and I took a step back like “ this is a natural process that my body does , like eating or breathing!or even pooing lool. I’m just over analysing this because of my experience. I’m a human and it’s not some big thing. I just sleep and wake up”.
      Also just realising thoughts and feelings relating to sleep were mostly just my brain being used to doing feeling or thinking now so I just notice them and be like “ okay I had that thought because of my experience , makes sense - means nothing”. Instead of being like “ why am I still thinking this. The book of testimonies helped a lot too. Just showed me how people got through it and encouraged me. Additionally I’m a Christian so above all God helped me.
      Hope that makes sense. Honestly girl we have all been at a place where we felt like “ there is no way I can get out of this. Yet we all did so you will too. Don’t try and do too much and focus on overcoming the anxiety and not the sleep. That’s just a symptom.
      Lastly ( sorry) really realise the worst you will be if you don’t sleep is tired. Yes that feels crap but it can’t hurt you. People have done loads on literally no sleep so you will survive if you don’t. I’m saying this because all this fear just peels away when you look at it like that.

    The more you scratch, the more it’s itching… not only mosquito bites, haha, it also applies to anxiety, insomnia, OCD. If you don’t scratch (react, figure out and ruminate) the 'bite' just disappears. If you start scratching it will become bigger and bigger…

    Nina, the way you described not interacting with your thoughts really resonates with me. obviously, you can't not think about things. worries will come up, fear will poke through. however, when they do come up we can change the way we react to them. we can sit with them. we can repeat them. eventually, they will leave. "thoughts are fed off of emotion" is a really good metaphor for the way overthinking and worrying works.

    Hi Nina, how would you approach hyper awareness when falling asleep then?:) This episode brought me SO FAR, incredible! I was able to sleep for 2 months now (of course with some bad nights!) and that’s so precious!! Just don’t know how to approach hyper awareness. you also just don’t react to it?

    Hey Daniel! I hope you are doing well. I had a question, I remember you said that we shouldn't accommodate our insomnia in any way, like, if I slept little one night I still kind of had to do everything normally like going to work and socialize, but what if by doing that I end up unusually tired sometimes? Does that mean we have to accommodate our routine a tiny bit after sleeping little, so that we can get most things done without ending up so tired, if that makes sense? Thanks

      Hi! I think when we think “I should” or “I have to” that’s tricky. The not accommodate is about freedom 😊

    I cannot cope with my insomnia any more, don't know what to do anymore, I wish I can take the easy way out, but it will leave a big trauma on my few loved ones!!!!

    This is definitely easier said than done. I'm on multiple sleeping meds and bipolar with a lot of anxiety. This approach does not seem feasible at all!!

      Yes it's very hard at first but it's absolutely doable because fear in our brains functions in the same way and many people with horrible cases of insomnia overcame it and got back to normal. I used to have 0 hours of sleep many nights, feeling of dread every minute of day and thinking about sleep every minute, and gradually with knowledge and patience I started seperating myself from that fear and it started becoming weaker over time, it still comes up occasionally but it has 0 power over me so it means nothing. You can get there too. Check out success stories on this channel and keep learning about how to move past it, if others could do it so can you 😊

      @@ninasimonovic6852Nina!! May I ask. How did you separate yourself from the thoughts? Also, how did you focus on the thoughts more without the fear? Time and exposure therapy?

      @@Megatron986100 I observe them from a distance, noticing what they are in a completely detached way. Once you practice it a few times, it'll become more natural. When the usual insomnia fear would come up I noticed it and said to myself "oh, my mind's warning me about insomnia again, and here comes the racing heart. oh well, it'll warn for a bit and eventually quiet down, I'm just going to relax and let it be". As soon as you accept mind's chatter as a separate thing, a distance is created between you and thought, when there's distance, emotions are not involved and peace comes, soon enough you can fall asleep because of being calm

      Also if being ok to be awake or befriend wakefulness in your terms is not an effort. Maybe not s sleep effort but still an effort, as our minds are always aligned towards good sleep

      Yes the Sedona approach, the teaching is that by welcoming unpleasant emotions and thoughts, just by letting them be, by not resisting them, we can easily release them and completely let them go

      Not at all!! I always talk about how they’re safe, that no health issues have been shown to be caused by them. If someone is saying “it’s important to not take medication” that just increases pressure to sleep! I’m all about less pressure, more peace 😊

      I've been on every sleep med, prescription or otherwise, known to man. Had I (and my psych.) been educated on what insomnia really stems from (anxiety about not sleeping), I could have gotten with a CBT-i therapist 8 years ago, and avoided all those nasty drugs. The Rx ones can be very difficult to wean off from (especially benzodiazepines) based on my experience. I've done it, twice. In reality, you do not need them (or supplements) at all and clinically, they don't work that well anyway. Daniel did a video on "delegation" and that makes sense, to sometimes just delegate a few nights a week to something else, taking the pressure off yourself, like a supplement, an Rx, or both; but taking an Rx (not supplements) every single night can get tricky.

      @@pattidunegan8395 How long have you been on medication and how did you overcome it? I am currently on sleep meds for over a month now. I am afraid ill develop dependency. And I am conflicted if I need to continue it or starting tapering it off. I tried not taking it but still can't sleep. I am in a very confused and conflicted state right now. My sleeplessness started over a month ago and I feel like I am not progressing at all. Still in that rabbit hole.
