  • Dr. Rahul Jandial, M.D., Ph.D., is a dual-trained brain surgeon and neuroscientist at City of Hope in Los Angeles, California, and international bestselling author with his books translated into over twenty languages. He joins the show for a second time to discuss his latest book, This is Why You Dream, and his fascinating insights into dreaming, informed by his research and experience as a brain, spine and spinal cord cancer surgeon. We explore the science and neuroscience of dreams, what meaning dreams have in our waking lives, how to think about our dreams, the difference between a dream state and meditative or psychedelic state and the intersection of religion and science. He explains why dreaming is like high intensity interval training for the brain, why our bodies actually need sleep, how our bodies and brains are governed by the earth’s rotation and so much more.

    Hi.
First time watching. I prefer podcasts because of the authenticity. It feels more real. I feel more connected with the hosts/guests and the conversation. Probably because of the longer and uncut format. I get to know people better like that.
I noticed that this episode is edited with small cuts of what could feel like "emptyness". Its more like personality.
    Just my thoughts. Ty ;)

"We all remember nightmares" I must be a weird specimen, I don't remember a single nightmare. I've had them for sure as a kid, as reported by my mother, but I don't recall a single one.

All life sleeps because ; consciousness is SO POWERFUL , that if it doesn't leave the body for a certain amount of time every day , it will burn it out prematurely . The brain is merely a place where life's memories are stored up , like a library . When consciousness leaves the body ( to sleep ) and is not there to guide it , the brain runs rampant through all its memories . THESE ARE DREAMS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please do not respond to this if you do not have at least a 3rd grade education . !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
