Great video. Really helpful. Got right to the key points and illustrated well. I've always wanted you to be able to sit cross-legged. Maybe I'll be able to if I keep up regular practice with these exercises and stretches

I used to check my phone sitting on the floor, just to change my body position, but my back would feel tense and it wasn't very comfortable. I will try these exercises and I am sure it will help. Also each time when I sit on the floor/carpet, my cat comes and sits next to me, which is nice.
It'll definitely help! And how nice you get the added bonus of cat time 😉😻
Awesome thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏🩵🩵🩵🙏🙏🙏
You're most welcome! 😃
As an ethnic west Asian (Turk), this sitting position is actually a norm for us. I appreciate it that you help people with that 👍
Thank you for your help, i sit for 20 mins and already feel the numbness, pain in my legs. I hope the exercises will help to get use to sitting long durations. ❤
Thank you so much! It is a pleasure to practice with you. Hope this helps! 🙏🙏
In india in rural areas and also in some urban areas people eat on floor by sitting in this position and even in many daily to daily people sit
💖Thank you💖
Hi Joelle, thank you so much for all your sharing and I love your yoga lessons. Do you have tips on sitting/meditating in lotus pose? ❤🥰
I'm so glad you enjoy them, thank you for practicing with me ! The stretches in this video would be helpful for lotus too, which is basically a more extreme version of sitting cross legged. Or look up my pigeon flow practice, which is all about external rotation of the hip 😉
Thank you so much for your reply. You are always so kind and loving. ❤❤❤
So, the two main muscle areas responsible for being able to sit cross-legged are the pelvic and hip muscles. I can't activate either of them. My hips have zero lateral and sagittal mobility, and my pelvis is so sore that the mere activation is horribly painful. How can I even sit in the starter position if those muscles can't even get into the first step?
Hi there, the first step isn't about activating any muscles, it's about beginning to approximate the cross-legged position in a way that works for your body. Using props is the way to go! So you can add as many books/cushions/whatever you've got to help that start to happen. If you feel like you just can't get high enough to do so with that kind of prop, start in a chair or a stool with your feet crossed at the ankles and the outsides of the feet on the floor, as if you were in a really high cross-legged seat. Then as the video says, over time you can work to lower yourself down. I'd also recommend incorporating regular hip and lower back movements to start to get your body used to movement towards those general directions, even if it looks and feels quite different at first. Here's a 10-minute practice for pelvic pain you can try to see which stretches and movements might feel best to you in your body: th-cam.com/video/l5_IkPiYA-w/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps!
I found out this week that I am as stiff as a fork, so going to work on that. Thanks for the vids.
You're most welcome - you got this!
I will be trying these stretches as it is really difficult and uncomfortable for me to sit cross legged. Oh, and funny video!
Thank you! They'll definitely help, keep me posted!
Great thumbnail!
Ah thanks so much!! It took me so long to make, Photoshop is definitely not my forte 😂
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Excellent ❤
Thanks Javier 😊
a great pleasure to meet you 🥰😘 you are very talented ☺️ ,how are you?
Can I change a kneeling position (for digestion purposes) to a cross leg position and stll achieve the benefits? My core seems stronger with the cross leg.
Hi Sue, I'm sorry but I don't quite understand what you mean? Both kneeling and cross legs can be beneficial and have different advantages, so it's certainly possible one will be more comfortable than another for many people
Thank you for this informative and fun video! I can get up off the floor without using my hands, but not from crisscross applesauce all the time😂
Glad you liked it, thanks Kelly! Getting up from the floor is such a critical skill as we age - I'll have to think about a follow-up video! 😉
✨️❤️✨️
I’m 22 and I more often than not sit on the ground cross legged, but if I’m sitting live this for too long, maybe 40 min to an hour my knees start to hurt and I have to sit differently, am I leading my body to bad knees in older age? Or is this normal and I just have to change positions when it gets painful
I'd say 40 minutes is quite a long time to stay in any position, so switching it up or taking a little break is always a nice idea :-)
man i’m 21 and i can’t even sit cross legged for more than 3 minutes, consider yourself lucky 😂
What if it's my left hip that won't let me cruss cross all the way?? Do I place pillow under that butt cheek only ty??
If that feels more comfortable for you then you can absolutely do that :)

My issue is my legs go to sleep over time, but otherwise I don’t feel pain 👍
That's not uncommon! Sometimes it means we're sitting slightly "wrong" for our body and a nerve is being compressed after sitting for a while. Adding a little height under your seat or just moving around more frequently can help, but it's also a good indication that these exercises would probably be helpful in the long run 😉
@@YogawithJoelle I’ll definitely try that next, thank you so much!!
My problem is I sit in my chair cross-legged for hours every day and now my knees feel like they are instantly going to tear apart when I get into the cross-legged position now. You can definitely over-do this and cause problems...
It's true that spending too long in any position generally isn't ideal, but this should be quite a safe position for most people's knees as there isn't much rotation happening. So definitely not a bad idea to mix up your positions since it sounds like you already have this one down!
Same looking on internet because when I sit in my computer chair it’s a bad habit it’s only comfortable if I sit cross legged and now my knees are hurting so bad when I stand up feels like there going to break
The hands reaching here th-cam.com/video/JUlUCXH7xL4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qoMrsUSbNwq7nBMP&t=75 is entirely me. But beyond that it bothers my knees as well at the same time. And I could do this just months ago. I will try the stretches and warmups to see if they help. Thank you.
Keep up the great work, it will come 🙏
In my childhood I could easily sit like this but not its hard. I cant do this for long my hips hurt
That's pretty common for so many people!
Very funny
