  • Hockenheim, ninth and tenth round of the DTM Classic Cup 2022 series, free practice session on friday afternoon, TRACK NOTES
    #2 Stefan Mücke, Opel Calibra V6 4x4 Class 1
After two days of testing in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, the highly complex and sensitive Class-1-contender from the (last) DTM-season of 1995 proved to be mich more reliable. Stefan Mücke had a short pitstop in order to get the systems checked and initially returned to the track to clinch fastest time in the session by a margin of 1.4 seconds. The main trouble, caused by the electronics, seems to be relocated and solved.
    #16 Rudolf Schöllhorn, Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse 2008 W204
New kid on the block with the spaceframe chassis once built for Bernd Schneider and then used by Maro Engel in the DTM-series from 2008 on. Nowadays, the 500-bhp-strong V8 is owned and raced by Rudi Schöllhorn, technically supervised by Ludwig "Lucky" Zechtmair of Race Art Motorsport and fellow racedriver-mechanic Markus Wüstefeld. For prepraration, Schöllhorn had an outing one week before at the same venue with the Spezial Tourenwagen Trophy aka STT. Second in the free practise session.
    #78 Mark Verhaegh, BMW M3 E30 Group A
After a rocker arm destroyed the engine casing minor 8.000 revs at the end of the main straight, the dutchman had a spectacular spin on his own engine oil without touching the pitwall. Missing out a spare powerplant on site, Verhaegh had to withdraw from the event and initually transported the Ton Vink-prepared car back home to netherlands.
    #31 Christian Küberl, BMW M3 E30
The austrian was the second withdrawal after cooling fluid was found in the second cylindre - most propably due to a broken head gasket. This incident was of three key-factors for the red flag within the session, which stopped the free practice in order to let the track cleaned-up again.
    #20 Marc Hessel, BMW 320iS BTCC / 1988
A broken bellhouse of the six-speed gearbox caused an oil leak under the car's floor, which led to massive smoke and the red flag situation. Nonetheless, the trouble can be fixed until the first qualifying on saturday.
#40 Markus Reich, Audi A4 Supertouring
The Austrian, who came around without fellow-countryman Willy Salzgeber in a similar A4 Supertouring, spun on some leaking oil, brought out by one of the troublesome BMW's on track. Fortunately, no notable damage on that class 6 contender.
#444 Anton Werner, Audi 200 Quattro turbo
After his teammate Hans-Joachim Stuck had to withdraw from the event, Audi collector "Toni" Werner is the sole player in his bavarian-based operation form Landshut. His MTM-prepared five cylindre powerplant with an impressive singe turbocharger produces about 485 bhp and is one one the strongest in the 24 entrants strong grid.
#6 Jürgen Adi Schumann, BMW 635 CSi Group A
Team regular Olaf Manthey, who is leading the championship's rankings, had a first outing in the Audi 200 Quattro turbo of Thomas Wandel. Beside the long-serving BMW 635 CSi, the double DTM-vice-champion is set to have a guest appearance in the Audi. As a matter of fact, owner-driver Jürgen Adi Schumann took the wheel of the Group-A-spec. class 5-car, complained quite an amount of tire rubber being laid down on the tarmac by another series on site. "Due to that, it´s been a little bit slippery", he stated.
#19 Klaus Hoffmann, Opel Astra V8 DTM Coupé
After a piston broke in July at the Norisring, the 2003-spec. class 1-contender is back with the third-fastest time in free practice ahead of franco-canadian Bruno Spengler, the DTM-champion of 2012, in a BMW 320i Suptertouring entered by the BMW Group Classic and handled by the Schnitzer classic operation, run by father Stefen and son Yannik Trautwein.
#321 Michael Schneider, Ford Sierra RS Cosworth
Quite an encouraging start into the weekend for Kai Ringshausen, the son of former DTM-entrant Bernd Ringshausen, who is entering a newly-built Ford Sierra RS Cosworth similar to his father´s works-supported DTM-version back in 1989. Michael Schneider takes the steering wheel, while his father Volker Schneider, shortly a DTM-entrant back in 1986, is responsible for the 400-bhp-strong-engine.
#22 Guido Momm, Ford Mustang GT 5.0
A new differential for the powerful class-1-version, which was used in DTM from 1989 to 1994 included. Still, the rear axle remains the weak point and will be reconstructed during the winter season. "Therefore, we are cruising around in order to present the car und to be a piece of the action", states owner-driver Guido Momm, who already scored points for the DTM Classic Cup series at the Nürburgring.
