I used to snorkle years ago on my favorite fresh water lake here in Northern Mi. I used to find a big old bass sitting in top a 55 gallon drum off the diving platform in a brush pile made from locals who dump branches on the ice just before spring thaw. I would pet that big ole bass's tummy. No one could ever catch him. He was lazy and preferred going into shore at night to feed. I always enjoyed swimming among the fishes.
he wasnt lazy he was smart. He didnt live long enough to grow that big for no reason. As bass get older n bigger they become smarter and learn to be more selective about there food. Only eating prey deemed worthy for the amount of energy expended to catch them. What you described is typical big bass behavior and without using those tactics these huge bass likely wouldnt be able to grow that big. Its the reason i stopped trying to target trophy bass actually. That's crazy how fearless those walleye are. In Utah they are super skiddish, probably because we are allowed to spear them there. It's a shame you can't take them in Michigan
Mainly because we love our walleye here in Michigan. And spearing them would diminish our fisheries. We already have too many charter's swamping our waters and overfishing to the point where we don't even catch smelt anymore.
@@hellosweetheart3350 fishery Management is important. However, even if spearfishing were allowed it would account for a microscopic amount of the total take. The catch rate for spearfishing walleye is probably a little less than fishing for them. I do both
@@hellosweetheart3350 that couldn’t be anymore of an inaccurate statement.
