I saw your presentation at the great lakes shipwreck festival last weekend about shipwreck exploration in the modern age and loved the entire presentation. Technology has the potential to revolutionize how we explore shipwrecks here in the great lakes. ROV previews of wrecks can provide a huge advantage in dive planning and safety measures. I am looking forward to going through your backlog of ROV videos soon. Keep up the amazing footage.

Thanks! Leo always needs to be involved when I’m doing shipwreck stuff, he’s like a little person 😆 but he is a very good kitty and has a lot of love for me 😊

If you're ever looking for a second ROV to use for anything, I have an ROV rated to 330 feet, I live in eastern Iowa but I'm looking at getting started with exploration of wrecks in Lake Michigan this summer. Here in a few weeks I'll be at the Prins Willem V to see how the ROV handles interior exploration of large wrecks in open water. Would love to work with you at some point!

That's Awesome dude! I have been interested in ship wrecks for years but it seems like finding them would be like finding a needle in a haystack & since I'm not a big fan of being in the water anyway I figured it wouldn't be worth the time & expense to learn to scuba dive. How do you guys even find these things anyway? Word of mouth? Grid search? Boats with fish finders? Blind luck? I know there is a website on shipwrecks I seen years ago but I get the impression guys like you are finding them on your own. I'm amazed when people find these.

This is a lot to answer, but I would suggest finding my page on Facebook “Blueyes below” as I do most of my content on there which will help explain some of this. Essentially it’s a boat with sonar to scan as we go, some research from old historic accounts, some word of mouth, and a bit of sheer luck. I’ve searched for a certain wreck for about 4 years now and haven’t found it unfortunately. All it takes is time and money! 🤣

Great video thank you. Curious were did you get the reel for the umbilical cord. Our SAR team is looking for a smaller reel like that for our ROV.

Thank you for watching, the reel came from Blueye Robotics when I purchased my long tether. You may be able to get something from blue Robotics in the USA. I believe they sell empty reels 👍🏼

Awesome video. I'm really surprised about all the sediment floating around during the winter, why do you think it's there? Also, do you happen to have a merch store?

Thanks! No Merch just yet, but I do sell photos on my Etsy store. I have a new website as of last month www.Blueyesbelow.com so check that out if you have time!
The sediment and tannins probably come from the Muskegon River honestly. I was expecting to be more clear with the ice

I am surprised there is so much silt in the water even with the lake being frozen over

Me too! This is the first time I’ve gone through the ice here and really expected much better conditions. Maybe I’ll use my bigger lighting setup on the next time to help.

The shipwreck is close to the docs? I’d expect it to be a little further out in the water

It is quite close to Torrenson marina, and sits on a drop off. It may have been scuttled by the owners?

I am curious about what reactions or interactions you have with the ice fishmen? If the see this video you know there are out there looking for this spot!

There were definitely some people looking my way when I fired up the saw, but nobody was curious enough to come see what I was up to. They might be thinking I’m after the really big fish and need a bigger hole 😂
