    Bio major here! Relicanth looks a lot like real life remnants of ancient fish called sarcopterygii or coelicanths. Basically fish with fleshy fins that have actual bones in them (like the radius and ulna). The real guys are extinct, but a bunch of their descendants were discovered within the past decade. They are called "living relics", kind of like how modern-day crocodiles are mostly unchanged compared to their ancestors.

    • @fruttidimare9201

      Well, it really depends on the Pokemon.
      Some Ghost-types, like Phantump, Pumpkaboo, Litwick, and Blacephalon, aren't really very spooky. While others, like Trevenant, Chandelure, Giratina, Spiritomb, and Sableye, are spoopier. It really just depends on _why_ it has the Ghost type.
      With Normal, that depends on what you consider to be "normal." Eevee, Ratata, Patrat, Tauros, Litleo, and Yungoos seem to be pretty "normal" Pokemon, but then again... you get stuff like Heliolisk where it's not so obvious. For me, Normal is more of an animal-y type. I remember reading some advice on creating Normal-types somewhere, and the author made a comparison to Eevee with its whole "untapped potential" thing and how it can evolve into 7/8 different types.
      Fire, again, just depends on the Pokemon. Some are directly fiery, like Charizard, Moltres, Slugma, Magcargo, Inceneroar, Rapidash, and Chimchar. Others, like Tepig, Combusken, Oricorio, Volcorona, and Darumaka, it's not so obvious. I think some Pokedex entries actually _give_ the temperature of the fire, but I could be wrong.

    Hey Gnoggin!
    I know this is an old video and I'm not sure if anyone else had made this remark, but I think there's some more to be said about Relicanth. It's not incredibly relevant to it being rock type, but interesting nonetheless.
    The Pokemon REALLY resembles a type of fish called a coelacanth; the names are also incredibly similar. You even mentioned it looks like a fossilised fish, making Relicanth a living fossil of sorts. Well, the same is for coelacanth! They're an incredibly old type of fish and are commonly referred to as 'living fossils'.
    As always, great video :)

    • @CesarGonzalez-ur9ic
      @CesarGonzalez-ur9ic 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Erik Ghostwood and the crew Yeah nobody said it was ice. They could very easily be actual minerals. Any gem that comes in blue. There's a lot, not just sapphires. There are also aquamarines, diamonds, tourmalines, quartzes (regulars quartzes, jaspers, agates, onyxes, etc.), pearls, topazes, garnets, lapis lazulis, opals, turquoises, alexandrites, zircons, fluorites, rutiles, and more. The list goes on.

    • @luismiguelcruztoro984
      @luismiguelcruztoro984 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily according to the textbook of economy the reason why diamonds are expensive is because its rare (obviously). so if it ends up being this common it would end up losing its value and start getting treated as a normal rock. Death Mountaineers - Some of them he easily dismissed though. Rockruff and Lycanroc’s spikes are explicitly called rock and Aerodactyl gets its rock type because it’s Mega is what it was before the restoration process

    Fun fact that might explain Areodactyl having rock hard skin but a mosquito still being able to drink its blood. Turtle shells actually have nerves and blood vessels in them and mosquitoes are able to get through the small gaps in their shell and suck their blood. so its possible Aerodactyl has small yet very strong scales like the ganoid scales of Gar fish.

      In some Pokemon games the pokedex says that
      "this Pokemon hasn't developed/evolved for millions of years"
      But IDK. Maybe I'm wrong.

    I noticed you said manganese can explain yellow coloring. In my experience, the mineral that shows up mostly as a yellowish color is sodium. I test water in a biology lab, and if I get water that’s yellow, it’s going to be high in sodium. We actually test minerals and some metals with spectrometry, and manganese shows up as a very deep and warm orange color when you spray it at a plasma torch. It’s lovely really.

    A reason for Rhyhorn to be Rock-type is that the collagen in rhinos skin has a lattice shape, one that they share with crystal materia. Hence they have rock hard hide (which can be more or less dense in real rhinos).
