Been watching your videos quite a bit of late as we are considering switching to EVs (incl Teslas). It is clear you know a lot about Teslas.
Would be great if you could also make a video about the pros / cons of buying Tesla new versus used. Traditionally, used cars can save money and be a better value than new but it is unclear how Tesla treats used cars that were not purchased through Tesla but through 3rd party dealerships - some folks claim that if a used Tesla was purchased through a 3rd party dealership, the car may not get software updates? Would be great if you could make a video on this topic with all the nuances of buying used Teslas (or maybe point me if you might already have a video on the topic 🙂) . Thanks for conisderation
Great video - keep up the good work 👍

Yeah, and for me the 272 miles of range, I've never had an issue with it. We use it as a commuter car and driving around town and a bit of highway and never once have we used more than 30-40% of the charge in a single day. We can usually forget to charge it for a whole week and it'll be fine on range, but I just plug it in every night or every other night because I like having a "full tank" every single day. I think for the price, and the fact you can charge to 100% (compared to the long range Models that you should only charge up to 80-85% on a regular basis means that you'll get effectively the same daily range of the long range model 3 for example), makes this a super compelling option. If you road trip a LOT then it might be worth the upgrade, but if you only go long distances maybe 2 or 3 times a year like I do, I'll take the ~$10k in savings and just charge one or two extra times on a trip one or two times a year.

    • @HermanWillems
      @HermanWillems ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@quintonstevens Same for me i can get 425km out of my Model 3 RWD with LFP(2022 model) its about your same range in miles. It's super efficient and cheap to charge because it does not have a large battery. If there is one thing i would change? I would say, it would be nice if it was a Hatchback. Other than that. No complains. I was afraid the non-premium audio would sound bad. Wanted to upgrade it, but now i have listened to it.. im too lazy to actually change the audio as it is far better than i expected. I'm happy with it so i just leave it how it is. The HVAC is amazing, it's heated super fast or cooled super fast. Very good climate control, best i ever have seen in any car.

  • @L3x4Pr0ne

I just picked up my 2023 RWD. Great car. If you don’t absolutely have to have AWD - which MOST people don’t, even in many winter states (I’m Midwest) - this is the car to buy. If you can take advantage of the tax credit, this car reaches into the upper 30s, and that’s not half bad.
The car has been super efficient for me @ 215wh/mile, mostly highway at 70-75mph. That’s pretty damn good.
It’s comfy, fairly quiet, and just a smooth ride. I thought the range would be worrisome but it’s not at all. I can get to and from work downtown (from the burbs) at least three days, plus soccer practice for the nuggets. Waaay more than I need.
For anyone hesitating on the RWD, don’t. Plenty of power, handles great in the snow, and is cheap relative to the other models.

I live in Northwest Indiana and work downtown Chicago. I wondered how well the rear wheel drive did in the snow. I don't need long range. I have a plug in prius and get to work from spring to fall using no gas if I don't detour.

@Ryan - such an informative video, thanks - I’ve subscribed to your channel for some years now but yesterday I was finally able to get behind the wheels of a ‘Rear-Wheel Drive’ Model 3 and a ‘Dual Motor Long Range’ Model Y, test drives courtesy of my local Tesla store here in the UK.
Both cars were so much fun to drive, even in the pouring rain, but I found several unexpected aspects which I haven’t noticed you’ve mentioned before:
1- There is no speed limiter, common on many other cars, where the driver sets a maximum speed (or it is auto detected from speed limit signs) - confusingly, in ‘Traffic-Aware Cruise Control’ the set speed is prefixed with MAX but that means the speed is limited by software rather than the driver but is adaptive to the speed of vehicle in front - more towns and cities in the UK now have 20 mph safety zones so I regularly use LIM in our ICE car but is seems Teslas only have ‘Speed Assist’ which chimes rather than limits - this would surely be a great safety feature in include in a future download
2- One pedal driving, with auto-regen, is permanent - as many have already commented I can appreciate this is the ‘only way’ from a driver’s perspective - but I wonder how comfortable it is for passengers? Perhaps another useful feature would be to display an optional ‘smooth driver’ rating (for passenger convenience) so that gentle release of the accelerator can be measured and improved objectively? I noted there is a ‘Comfort’ setting but I think that is mainly to dial back rate of acceleration?
3- The demo cars showed live traffic but I hadn’t realised that is only available with the ‘Premium Connectivity’ option costing $/£9.99 pm
4- An audible/on-screen warning to tell the driver/front passenger they’ve left their phone(s) on the charger pad when opening their respective doors would be handy - you guessed it, I left mine on the charger - the sales advisor, who managed to collect my phone from the car before the next demo started, said this often happened!
In case you want to know which I preferred: the Model Y was certainly so practical and super-powerful but I actually found the Model 3 more fun to drive.
Keep up the great work, looking forward to the next one 😊.

I completely agree with the model 3 being the most fun Tesla to run around town. Our X is nicer on a trip but our 3 LR just fits better and handles quicker. The only thing I miss in the 3 is the driver display. That frees up the Xs larger center display for the map and functions.

Hi Ryan - Thanks for the video. I have a late 2022 RWD Model 3 and I love it. It is easily the best car I have ever owned. One thing I don't think you mentioned is how economical it is to own. Charging the car at home with cheap night rates saves me a lot of money compared to buying petrol (gas). Also servicing costs are minimal. Previously the franchise dealer system used by ICE manufacturers was a rip off when it came to servicing the car. Also when it comes to buying the Tesla there is no haggling over the price, which I didn't like doing with franchise dealers.

Yeah, I've had my car for almost 6 months now and have just had to add windshield wiper fluid once...LOL. Wiper fluid and tires, pretty much the only maintenance these things ever need. Almost anything else is gonna be a warranty item, and Tesla has a solid warranty.

@@quintonstevens You have more, you have interior air filter to be replaced. (you can do that yourself, you can order the part with manual from tesla) and The wipers themselves offcoarse need to be replaced. This can also be ordered from Tesla and easily be done by yourself. Yes wiper fluid also can be done by yourself. The only thing you need to go to some garage is the tires.

Great explanation as always. Having to use the center screen to control most vehicle functionality is okay for me, except the buried access for seat heaters, and the troublesome wiper controls. At least on the Model 3 and Y, access to the Autopilot and gear directional controls are still on the stalk and not relegated to AI or to a yoke with non-standard touch controls. I dread the day when Musk decides that all cars must do all the thinking for you, including the direction you might pull out of a parking space and being forced to obey Hal, the computer, for all driving thought processes.

I have a 2021. Don't have radar but do have ultrasonic sensors. Have the automatic hatch, the matrix headlights, and the auto dimming mirrors. And while my car didn't come with a lithium 12V battery, I have taken care of that myself with the Ohmmu battery. The auto wipers on mine have always worked flawlessly. I have never once had to use the screen icons for wipers. I also only have basic autopilot, and the only time I use voice commands is for navigation. My car is a bit newer than this one, so I'm pretty sure I have the better suspension...I definitely have the double paned windows.
With regen, the only time I've ever seen it almost completely disabled is when the battery is >95%. Below 95% you get full regen. When the temperature is below 60 degrees or so you get about 75% of normal regen, so when it's colder you do have to allow a bit of additional time to stop if you don't ever want to have to use the brake.

Ryan, I like your presence better in this style of presentation in contrast to the studio teleprompter mode (not bad, just not as spontaneous as today's delivery).
In your "room for improvement" with the Tesla:
    1) Add \ and | (pipe character) to the on-screen keyboard. My primary Wi-Fi passcode has both of them, so can't connect the Tesla to that network.
    2) Certain audio functions should initiate a pause command to any playing audio, such as listening to an audiobook over Bluetooth. When I get a text and press to have it read, it ends up reading right over the top of the playing audiobook. Shouldn't do that.
    3) The text-message reading function should do so *without* reading all the header info for the message. Don't need to hear it.
    4) If Auto-pilot is engaged and the driver engages the turn signal, the autopilot should disengage, and after the turn signal is turned off, auto-pilot should re-engage.
    5) The Tesla can auto-turn on navigation based on a location in an event in my schedule... but that option also turns on navigation to work (beginning fo the day) and to home (end of the day). I already know how to get to both places, so would like the option to turn off auto-navigation for selected locations.
    6) Addition to #5... include the same option that Google Maps on my phone has... can set it to only announce alerts on a trip, instead of all the turn-by-turn instructions. Since I know how to get to work, I don't need to hear that, but would be nice to hear about traffic issues, hazards, or possible speed traps.

One question about Autopilot: does it improve as the car is broken in? I test drove my 95 year old uncle's new Tesla Model 3 the day after he bought it (yes he was 95 when he bought his first electric car - part of his bucket list). The problem I had was that the car phantom braked 4 times over the first 10 blocks that I drove the car in very light traffic; and worst of all, it panic stopped with alarms sounding when an 18 wheeler was approaching the other way on a wide and otherwise untraveled highway. This was SO disconcerting that I immediately cancelled the Autopilot and drove the car manually home. This phantom braking issue has been the chief reason I have paused considering a Tesla Model 3 (though at 6 feet 3 inches with a long torso, I was actually considering a Model Y). I do use my adaptive cruise control on my six year old Subaru, for I feel even in city traffic, it reduces the chance of rear-ending someone or blowing past the speed limit.
