Welcome to Next of Ken and in this episode, we're counting down 37 Times Willy Wonka Was A Fantastic Troll. I guess when you're an eccentric owner of a chocolate factory you can be a giant troll and that's exactly what Willy Wonka is. It doesn't matter if you're a parent or Charlie Bucket, Willy simply ain't got time for your BS. Respect his rules or you're gonna get an Oompa Loompa song.

Fun fact, Gene only agreed to star as Willy Wonka under one condition: that he could limp out of the factory and then do the somersault because he wanted the audience to wonder if he was just trolling them or he was for real. I love how Wonka just gives zero fucks whenever one of the kids screws up. It's perfect. Gene Wilder was a legend.

They also never told the rest of the cast what would happen with the boat ride, or that Wonka would yell so angrily at Charlie at the end of the tour. That way their shock and fear would be more natural.

i felt johnny's version was more not quite there. Like he either didn't care or didn't completely mature. He seemed like a big kid. Which isn't bad, just what i felt. Gene, i felt like he knew what was going to happen and knew the kids, therefore planned the tour around each of their own "sins" if you will, to see if they could resist, showing some will power in changing. Like Charlie did, he could have sold the candy for a lot of money, helping his family but didn't. He resisted that urge.

Here are some of Christian Borle's best lines from the Broadway version.
"Augustus will be fine. And if not, well at least he died doing what he loved best."
"Easy as pie! Oh, too soon?"
"Veruca, what happened to your face? Oh wait, you look like that to begin with."
"Jeremy is a highly trained mammalian factory operative. He sorts my nuts."
"She'll be fine. And if not, well there's no time to mourn. That's not what Veruca would've wanted. And Veruca did always get what she wanted, didn't she?"
"Always daydreaming, that boy. It's a very bad habit."
