Seems to be a Paul TV this morning - two videos! lovely! What a magical place, shame it didn't go to plan - but still an enjoyable watch - more so as its the reality of our hobbies - your dedication is amazing, but then as you know - its that spirit of the adventure that's keeps us going! - sadly no more of your content to watch - all caught up.. Brilliant morning drinking tea and watching two of your videos! Have a great weekend.
I loved all of these shots Paul. What a spectacular image of the church . .!!! Sometimes you just have to keep going and rely on your experience to get things right . .even when it may not feel quite right.
Thanks so much, Richard - very kind of you. The shots ended up being better than I thought at the time, but definitely still some lessons learned - I guess that happens! Hope you’re well.
Love the star trail composition and the Milky Way core was done well too. You still came out with rewarding shots despite your struggles here! Keep them coming Paul. :)
Beautiful video Paul. To observe the Milky Way has always a special attraction and charm. I like it the part of the video where there is the sound of the waves on the beach and the view of the moon rising from the sea and with the constellation of scorpion.
I totally loved that church ruin! Stunning! You're not the only nightscaper who experiences those nights where things just don't seem to feel right and it just keeps bugging you. As you said, you just keep going and see what you can do anyway. I think you managed pretty well!
Thanks Jeroen - oh yes, that ruin is pretty awesome. I should probably return to do it justice again!! We keep going - practice always helps and everyone suffers the odd “bad night”. Still great to be out, though, eh? Thanks for watching and for the support!!
I'm very fortunate to be able to have this stretch of beach fairly local to me and it's well walked. Sadly the relentless erosion from the North Sea earlier this year claimed many of the old trees that lay strewn on that stretch of coastland, although there were some remains between Benacre Broad and Southwold. Fabulous photographs!
A fantastic place to live near, Paul - I could spend days going up and down that coast! I wish I’d got there earlier in the day to scout the beach for those remaining trees. Thanks for your kind words.
Yep, I know that feeling how I imagine how something will look like vs how it is in reality, but still previsualization is a very important tool for us. Love the composition and how the top of the building points at polaris. Great night.
Brilliant Paul. I treated myself today and watched your journal on the amazon fire stick on big telly. What a stunning location with the church ruins. I really do love the windswept lone tree shot. Thank you for your astro journals, I really appreciate all your hard work 👍
Thanks Lee - really appreciated. I always enjoy YT on the “proper” telly - so much more stuff of interest than on the main channels a lot of the time! Thanks for you support and clear skies!
Excellent video Paul. It was a stunning place, and the beach was awesome with the Milky Way rising! I agree, to find the right composition was a challenge, but still a fantastic night and You captured it well Paul! Your star trail image was brilliant, that composition was spot on! Loved the Milky Way shot too👍 Thanks for a great night! Clear Skies!
Thanks Simon, and it was great to get out with you again. I'll maybe have to visit in the daytime at some point to find those pesky dead trees!! Thanks for your support. 🙏
Totally understand the feeling when you don't get in the groove - and for me this often happens when I feel under prepared due to lack of scouting opportunities before nightfall. In the groove or not you came away with some great images. What a stunning foreground the old church makes 👌
Thanks Greg - appreciated. As you’ll appreciate, it’s not often possible to get out and scout a location in the daylight like we’d hope! But I need to always remember that at least I’m out under the stars! Hope you’re well.
Solid video as usual Paul! Astro has enough challenges on its own, then you add in shooting a vlog with compelling video and storytelling. Definitely no small task!
Thanks Scott. Ha ha, yes I sometimes wonder if we’re slightly unhinged making things more complicated by filming as well! But I enjoy both the astrophotography and filmmaking side of things, despite the added complexity, so I shouldn’t complain! Thanks for the support. 👍
Thanks, Pete. I’m glad I managed to salvage some decent images, and I probably didn’t need to be so grumpy, but it was still great to be out under the stars!
Lovely video with some great images, the weather has been rubbish, hopefully going to get out while we are away in Norfolk for the next couple of weeks.
Thanks Bill - very kind of you. I agree on the recent weather - very unpredictable to say the least. Hopefully you’ll get some gaps up in Norfolk and be able to enjoy the fantastic skies up there - have a great break.
That’s a nice stance you struck there Paul. Great photographs. Some nights can justify be frustrating for no obvious reason. I usually find I cause my own frustration when my pre visualise shots don’t match reality.
That’s exactly what I’d done!! I was also frustrated with myself as I was with some others and wanted to give them my attention as well, but was (rather selfishly) all wrapped up in the shot I’d wanted to get!! But still nice to be out under the stars.
Another great video Paul. Thanks to your Orford Ness video I am going on a trip tomorrow night (1St June) Not the best forecast or time of year, but who know what might happen. Derek
Thanks Derek, and awesome that you’re off to Orford tomorrow night!! Hope you enjoy it - I always wonder what it would have been like there during the big aurora event a few weeks ago!
Nice video. If you go again try heading left along the cliff and down onto the beach at Benacre Broad, there is a path close to where you stood at the start of the video. Trees are normally a bit easier to find.
Coastal erosion is a problem but still a natural process that has also created some of the most stunning coastal scenery 🙂 Great (and relatable!) video as always. I´m stuck in the editing swamp myself 😂Just a thought - wouldn´t it make a great shot to frame the startrails in just one of the arches, with maybe an 85 mm or so? Could you try that for me, since I don´t have a ruin like that 🙂 Edit: a portrait shot is what I wanted.
Actually that’s a great idea for a shot! The longest lens I had was 50mm, which could probably have worked. Maybe next time! Thanks for the support as ever, Martin. Hope all’s well with you and the family and you’re able to get through your edits!
Thanks Chris - appreciated. Worth checking out some of the other channels listed in the video description - they're all some of my favourite nightscape people.
Oh, by the way. For me - both with my own videos and the ones I like to watch - it´s more about capturing the experience. It´s not all about getting that perfect shot. The videos with photographers just going out and collecting those perfect shots are kind of boring to be honest. That said - your shots turned out great! I especially like the one with the small path and the bushes in front of the MW.
Oh, 100% it’s about the experience. I was trying to show that sometimes the experience can be frustrating and you’re not sure why!! And when I look back at the footage and see the Milky Way rising over the sea, I wonder what I was complaining about given it was just so beautiful out there!!

Thanks so much, Paul. Absolutely, it’s the adventure rather than the end “product” that matters most. Enjoy the weekend too!!

I like it the part of the video where there is the sound of the waves on the beach and the view of the moon rising from the sea and with the constellation of scorpion.
Thanks Massimo - really appreciated. The sight of the moon rising was lovely - definitely a highlight of the night!

Beautiful video. And you are right. Being under the Milky Way is always a privilege. x
Thank for watching, Silvia - agree, it always is!!

Thanks Matej - appreciate the support. Expectation vs reality is always an interesting comparison!! Hope you're well.
Incredible pictures, I would take the night as a win!
Thanks Robert - you’re right, definitely a win. I just need to stop being so grumpy! Thanks for watching. 👍

Very nice video Paul thanks for taking us along
Thanks for watching and for your support, Tony. 🙏
Was a great location Paul. Had a fun night even if I nearly lost my drone😂😂 clear skies
Ha ha, yes glad it decided to come back to you, Glenn!! Thanks for watching and the support. 🙏

Excellent video Paul. Best laid plans etc etc, things can't always go to plan but still a great result and a nice set of images.
Thanks, Pete. I’m glad I managed to salvage some decent images, and I probably didn’t need to be so grumpy, but it was still great to be out under the stars!

....the idea of the shot was alot better than the reality... 'T' shirt motto
Ha ha, I´d wear that too! 😂
Relatable!! I guess that’s why we keep coming back to places, better prepared and a little wiser. Thanks for watching, Paul - appreciated.
Paul’s going to open his new apparel store shortly! 👕
Nice video. If you go again try heading left along the cliff and down onto the beach at Benacre Broad, there is a path close to where you stood at the start of the video. Trees are normally a bit easier to find.
Thanks Mike - useful to know!! Definitely hope to get back there. Appreciate you watching. 😊

Great video, I finally found a TH-camr shooting similar stuff as me!!
