Awesome videos. Currently working on the exact same vehicle and it’s throwing the VVT solenoid code. Idles high when out of gear (18-1900) then if it idles long enough some times it will drop back down. Weird power jumps when coasting say down a hill which I assume is timing jumping due to a failing/sticky VVT solenoid. Am I headed in the correct direction in your opinion after working on the same vehicle?
I think your going the right direction, these solenoids fail eventually, they are the weak point in the variable valve timing system, just make sure that you’ve got an adequate amount of oil, and also check the pre solenoid filter screens for debris, they are located just down the head actually looks like a slightly irregular bolt mounted to the (transmission side) of the heads. Believe they are a 14mm if I’m not mistaken.
