    Thank you for this! I have been doing research about the best print-on-demand website to put my energy to, and this video was very helpful. I see you mentioned SpoonFlower, TeesPring, and Placeit.net, would love to know your experience with those. Also, my biggest challenge is to generate traffic to my store, I would like to work with a platform that could help in this sense because I am not an expert in marketing and Adwords (And I would prefer to invest my energy on making aart) :D thank you again

      Hi Melise. I have used SpoonFlower for a personal project but not commercially. TeeSpring I have one design up and that's the extent of that. I have quite a few on TeePublic and have made 2 sales in 2 months but I definitely like to out my energy into Society6. I am getting almost a sale a day at the moment. Placeit is phenomenal for mockups, I use it ALL the time for POD stores and my TH-cam videos. I have a whole video about how I use Placeit and Pinterest to market my Society6 store, so stay tuned :)

    • @DesignbyCheyney

      Also I understand wanting to create the art and not market it, but to get around this you can hire someone else to do it, or treat the marketing part like it's own artform, that's what I do. Placeit definitely makes it fun for me 😁

    Loved the video. I always want to hear from other that sell on redbubble. I been in redbubble for 2 years almost three I think lol. I made my first sale after 4 months and I had about 50 designs up. Then I uploaded like 5 designs a months and got 2 sales every month when I had about 80 designs up. Now I have 103 designs. Still making 2 sales a month. My goal is to make a daily sale everyday. I love the idea of passive income lol😊

    • @DesignbyCheyney
      @DesignbyCheyney  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you for watching Susy. It takes a lot of effort to have over 100 designs, good for you. Two sales a month is much better than what I do. My goal is to make one sale a week on Society6, then a sale a day. I love the idea of passive income too, but recently I have come to think that ‘delayed income’ might be a better term. Creating stores and marketing POD products can be a lot of work, and for some, the return will never match what is put in. Hopefully for both of us we can smash our goals :) Having a goal is great, something to work towards :) x

      You will never achieve 1 daily sale with Redbubble. Never ever. I have 350 high quality designs and I have 1 sale per week. And I need 10 daily if i want to live out of Redbubble

      @DesignbyCheyney  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. Teepublic and Society6 will pay at the end of the month without any threshold. If you don't make it to $20 by the end of the year, Redbubble will pay you what you're due at the end of the year. Here's hoping you reach $20 soon, sooner than New Year :)

    Something tells me you'll be earning more from monetizing youtube videos than with Redbubble. I'm finding the more I learn about print on demand the more I realize how saturated it is and how difficult to get eyes on the products due to search ranking. I also am hyper aware now of how some people just copy other people's designs. In many cases verbatim, leading to tons of similar or exact products for customers to sift through. Very frustrating.
    But it also takes only one design that happens to catch on to change everything for someone. I dont think I can ever recover, finacially, the energy I put into Redbubble designs. Fingers crossed regarding Amazon merch.

    • @DesignbyCheyney
      @DesignbyCheyney  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hiya, I have only just been monetized, so no, I have not yet earned more on TH-cam than Redbubble. But this will likely be the case soon. Not the case however for my Society6 store. I earn much more over on that platform and I can't tell you why. I assume it is my style of designs. Not all markets are for everyone, I have the same artwork and put a similar amount of energy into both platforms and Society6 does SO much better for me. The copying of designs is extremely frustrating but happens everywhere. I have a full time graphic designer and I have had other full time graphic designers rip off my work to sell to their clients (it comes back to me sometimes but it is scary to wonder how many times it doesn't get back to me). Best of luck for Amazon Merch, any passive income streams require a risk (the risk being that you invest a lot of your time for it not to return) - I have had my fair share of flops but I always learn from it and move on. Keep going :) In my years as a business owner I have learned that the only difference between someone who "succeeds" and "doesn't" (those words in themselves are arbitrary) is someone who persists. I had 22 rejections before having my book published!

    • @MARTiALYOU
      @MARTiALYOU 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DesignbyCheyney Congrats on the book getting published and with more success on Society6! I've not checked that platform out yet as I am working on translating my ideas into designs and Redbubble seems to be a good trainer platform. The backend is very easy and allows the visual of mockups immediately.
      I'm not sure about you but I seem to always jump on these trains too late. I find myself, like others, working in a day job and trying to setup passive income on the side though everything I touch required 10 times the effort for 1/100 th of a return. No joke! Its very interesting to me that folks expend so much time and effort for so little ROI. I see videos on youtube with individuals touting their earning on these platforms but they all must have some other insight or just lucked out at the right time with some design or product idea and have been riding the success of that one thing. I'll keep at it as I'm sure you will, until one of my ideas catches on. In the mean time youtube it! Channels about how to make money seem to make top earnings with adsense.

    • @DesignbyCheyney
      @DesignbyCheyney  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MARTiALYOU this is the exact reason why I want to do videos where I am transparent about my earnings and experience. Some of them are not worth the time and the effort, and with the ones that do well, I have continued hope that they will continue in an upward trend. If it was that easy to earn, everyone would do it and have great earnings. Wishing you the best with finding the path that works well for you :)

All I know is I do better there than anywhere else and I am not doing anything different across all the platforms. I have been on for a year now and sales have just increased a lot in the last few months, I think you have to be on a while, create a lot of quality content and engage with other community members to be visible. Hey Cheyney! Great video. I'm 2 months into freelance due to fallout from COVID. Just seen your video on society 6 before this. I have recently invested in a top-end art printer that can do prints as good as you can do from outsourcing. I have a feeling that based on your experience these platforms. I should see these third party platforms as an afterthought or a future business development rather than right now. I already have 3/4 clients (Don't know how I've been so lucky) So I already feel into the swing of things. I know income streams are important though so don't want to miss out. Is this something that you think would be silly to do? My thinking is I will have to market the hell out of my prints enough as it is rather than confuse my audience!

    • @DesignbyCheyney
      @DesignbyCheyney  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sam, thank you for your message. Good on you for starting freelancing. I think you should put your energy into what you’re passionate about and what works for you. I was selling digital prints on my website before branching out to print on demand but it didn’t go well for me. I have tried other POD sites and they haven’t worked as well for me as Society6. I keep going with Society6 because it is working better for me than the other alternatives. I think it is important to note here that it only supplements my client income. I do not not making a living off print on demand sites. I in no way rely on it.I think that selling my prints on my website could have been a bit confusing for my clients. When I advertise my Society6 art, I do so mainly on FB and instagram and have to be very clear about what it is Society6 is. I use Pinterest mainly for marketing my designs because my clients are not my target audience. And as you say, I don’t want to confuse them. I post occasionally to promote my Society6 in front of my client audience but mainly I promote my client work and my book. Follow your gut I say. You can always start building a shop in the background when you get a lull or a spare moment, it’s free to use but you need to invest your time (which isn’t free). If it grows, water it. I like to think of all my passive income streams as seeds, like in a garden. Sprinkle them around, water them and see what grows. Nurture the one full of life! I hope this has been helpful? Feel free to come back to me with any further questions, if you have anything you would like to see on my channel, let me know and I will see what bI can do for ya!

      @@DesignbyCheyney This is where my strategy might differ from your own! I don't want my site to be customer-facing as the long term direction I want to move in is towards the tv/film/music/merc sectors and plan to have my stripped-back site just have a few projects an about page and a store. I plan to write case studies and include those at some point. In the short term till I am at the point where those clients are the majority of my clients I will put some money into facebook/instagram advertising (I am also going to directly advertise my prints on those platforms and lead them to my site in a seperate campaign) to get me some clients within the hospitality sectors or other small businesses. This leads them to my facebook which is more customer-facing, and will capture the lead there. I've sat on all the information from this video and others like it and agree that once Im a bit more established. Hi Juliee, thank you for your comment. Do you mean that I should add music to the video? I am still relatively new to TH-cam and my editing skills are evolving each time I make a video. I have started putting background music in my videos more recently but had to do some research around ensuring the music is royalty-free :) I have only been putting music into some of my videos but I will now consider it more carefully :) If you meant something different, please let me know 😁

      Hi, Sorry for making you misunderstand! I asked you how can your video having auto English title? because some videos don't have the sub. I wonder we should put music background or not if we wanna have auto Eng subtitle? What is your experience? Thanks!

    • @DesignbyCheyney
      @DesignbyCheyney  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I see. Since I make videos in English, TH-cam automatically transcribes my content. I have a friend go in after and clean it up (fixing spelling and grammar). I would like to add subtitles in another language but I am unsure how to do so. When TH-cam auto transcribes the subtitles the English isn’t correct, I think the robot has a hard time with my accent. To enable captions when watching a video, click the CC button in the corner of the video. I like music in the background, I don’t think it is too much with the subtitles. Hopefully this helps a bit more this time around 🥰

    • @themurrayvideos
      @themurrayvideos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Design by Cheyney honestly I would increase them if I were you. Especially on stickers (you could put it from 75-120% and still get consistent sales). You could always increase them by 5% -10% a month (until you see a noticeable drop then you can work it back to the last successful percentage) hope this helps a bit

    • @DesignbyCheyney
      @DesignbyCheyney  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@themurrayvideosThank you for the tip. I would first like to drive consistent sales before upping the price. People either aren't finding my products or I'm not converting sales. People already aren't buying my products and I feel they will be less likely to if I up the margins?

    • @themurrayvideos
      @themurrayvideos 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Design by Cheyney honestly for stickers it usually doesn’t make a difference especially since there are huge discounts on bundled purchases for them. It helps protect you from that margin loss.
      You might just have to work on your keywords which might be the issue more so than the prices.

      Hi, just took a look at your shop and if you're open to feedbacks, I think the one thing that really stands out are the photos of plants being less desirable. You might benefit from learning a little more about composition and post edits. Improve one or two things with each design and I'm sure it'll be much more attractive to buyers. Right now it might not be attractive enough for people to buy even if they visit your shop.
