  • As the title suggests, I get to take out my mate's new bike, a gorgeous KAWASAKI Z900RS, a bike that I have fancied having a go on since it's release. The big Zed, is a true beast of a bike, which you can feel just how powerful it is, without actually riding it hard. There is so much low down grunt on tap, with such a tractable engine. This example has BLACK WIDOW headers/downpipes (Pete mentioned he was thinking of getting the Delcavic pipes, hence the confusion), but they are a bit too loud for my taste. Would I have a Z900RS ? Yes. definitely ! Would I keep my license very long ? Most definitely NOT......ha ha ha !!!

Have a '22 blue RS. Really enjoy this bike. No complaints, just praise. Pulls hard and runs like a Swiss watch. Amazing how you can bring it down to 10mph in 5th and it will pull without hesitation. No pipe or ECU flash on it and probably never will. Very happy.

Reminds me of the line in Pirates of the Caribbean, "Now bring me that horizon..." Does bring a big grin, though! I agree about the instrument layout; simple and straightforward. Kawasaki have always made nice straight 4-cyl engines; my Z750 L1 was very enjoyable back in the day. Today, that, or this Z900RS, would rapidly cost me my licence!

😂. He is a handsome chap. I had a Z650 (1980 W plate) when I was 19. Scared myself daft, first time I did over 120mph, sold it soon after for that very reason. Then a couple of years later, I bought an earlier model, which had the Yoshimura 720 conversion. That was awesome ! Owned that for a while before something else caught my eye. The power delivery of the Z900, is so smooth from low down and in whatever gear. You really have to concentrate on the speedo, not so good on our busy, pot hole ridden roads 🙄😂

@@ianhughesroyalenfield Your Z650 was just one year older than my Z750, so I understand what you're saying. These days, my reactions are just that bit slower and my strength too is less, so smaller capacity, lighter bikes are better suited for me.

@@chrisweeks6973 the main reason for buying my Interceptor, was to slow me down a bit, but I do miss the extra oomph occasionally. Perhaps it is a good job that I have insufficient funds to go out and buy a Z900 😂

It's got the perfect balance of classic styling and muscle with a modern chassis. It's getting harder and harder to not justify a second bike...

I do like it, except for the front brake fluid reservoir. You are spot on about the clocks and gear indicator. It is just a bit naughtier than I need. That and I do love air cooled. It is a great bike though! I like the looks and the colour.

It really is a belter. I have wanted to throw my leg over one for a long time, and having sampled this one, I might try and get a dealer demo on one sometime. Unfortunately, there are no main dealers close to where we live, so have to tie it in with family visits and holidays. Thanks for your comment, the old GPZ900 was a fantastic bike. Cheers

I would have one in a heart beat, not in matt mind you , but that engine sounds fantastic. In some ways it like my son's R nine T, it just wants you to ring it's neck but that is danger area for your license. Hey ho, great little vid Ian 👍

Everything has gone bigger. I saw a Z1R parked up at Devils Bridge, now they were big bikes to me back in the day, but this was parked next to modern middleweight bikes, and it look tiny by comparison. If I had the money the Zed would win, hands down. I still say you can’t beat an in-line four, in looks, sound and thrill. I miss those days of heading into a bend at pace, going down a few gears on the brakes, listening to the growl of the overrun, and screaming out the other side. Hard to put into words, but in my head it’s a joy to behold. I found that was even more enjoyable on middleweight 600’s (like the original Hornet), or even the 400 Superfour I had, than on the Z650’s I had. I am watching, with great interest, how things are developing in Japan. There are rumours of a new Honda 400 Superfour (which should meet euro 5 restrictions so we might get it too) and a Classic roadster by Kawasaki using their new ZX-4R 400 inline four screamer, though it would be remapped for easier use. Wouldn’t it be great if manufacturers brought the in-line fours back 🙏😎

@@ianhughesroyalenfield Absolutely always had four's way back when and still have that preference if I am honest .There is a big move to twins right now I reckon ,it must be possible /easy to have a middleweight four cylinder that will conform to the reg's but I guess that these twins are cheaper to produce and cheaper to get through these emissions it's all a bit crazy really I think bikes should just be left alone and be exempt from all this stuff .😉👍
