When critisized about his 'drifting' driving style being slower for lap times, Stefan Roser was quoted as replying with: 'Sometimes, when I am with my woman, we are not trying to make babies' Legend
Probably the best driving i've ever seen taking everything into consideration. The 911 is a freak of a car in its most basic form with its engine situated behind the rear axle. The 930 turbo was scary enough but RUF decided to make a deal with satan to create a 469bhp death dealing mechanical monster! This is balls of steel driving, best i've seen...incredible stuff! Efficient driving comment made me laugh :)
In 1987 the Ruf CTR Yellowbird.became the fastest car in the world, besting both the Porsche 959 and Ferrari F40. Ruf test driver Stefan Roser takes it around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in just eight minutes and five seconds. Right foot steering at its best as he takes every bend sideways, all the while dodging traffic at huge speeds.
Holy Opposite Lock Steering BATMAN!! Outstanding driving display by a white socks/leather dress loafers wearing Hero in this iconic RUF. Fantastic vid!!
A car that rewards you with either the most amazing and involving driving experience, testing everything you got. Or a car that punishes you with certain death for the tiniest mistake. A widow-maker. But in a good way: it's not a toy for boys like a cayman or 911 today - drive this one fast, and the first mistake will (on the ring at least) cost you the car. Or worse. It's literally a man and car dancing on a knifes edge.
8 Nurburgring motorcyclists with urine stained jeans disliked this video. Great driving! The laptime was an 8:05 - it's on par with the NA1 NSX-R (8:03.86).
@@jcerullo5015 I totally agree.. A perfect lap LOOKS smooth safe and easy. Some say "Wanna go faster"?!?! Try slowing down. Smooth is fastest and saves tires for later. Yup
Around the 12 minute mark is when the tires said "the hell with this! I'm outta here!" Serious guts driving like that especially after the tires were overheated or just plane worn out. It was like he was wrestling the car as much as he was the track.
That car is a handful, I’d definitely have wrecked it very quickly driving like that. In modern cars you stand a pretty good chance of walking away from a crash, but cars like this will probably kill you. This man has some guts.
I have this car on my Sony VR and I try to re-create this lap quite often. I rarely make it to the compression before I crash and die. On one lap I actually made it to the Karoussel without killing myself but - yep, you guessed it. Wall. Thank God for the reset button. lol.
Fantastic video! The best nurburgring video on youtube. I really got a query: why this car handles this amazing way? All modern porsche car are rear-engineed and powerful
George Ko no traction control, no stability control, no electronic braking control, this car was lightweight with huge power. The nurburgring isn't smooth everywhere and there is very little weight on the front with no engine, so it changes direction quickly, sometimes too quickly! With this rear engine rear drive layout oversteer is the order of the day
Back when men were men and tyres and suspension hadn't been invented! Unfortunately not may exterior shots but when you see them the slip angles are unbelievable!
What would I give to see Walter Rohrl doing this... The 930t had a deserved reputation for being evil - no surprise when you add turbo lag to the already pendulous handling. Not entirely sure you could keep the back end in check much more than this ( at least the first lap ). Watch some historic 911 racing onboards & you'll get an idea of how sideways they are almost all the time. He's also driving it much like a rally car, let's not forget 80s tyres weren't stellar. Scooter at 6:45 . Wonder if it's someone going to work :p
Excellent driver who seems to know the track, the handling of the 911 and the power output, he had his hands full for sure-- How many laps will the tires last under those conditions? What year was that? It looks rather old
Those are not saves, he knows what the car is going to do in the corner and he is able to counter that; the car must inspire so confidence, it's crazy.
The RUF CTR Yellowbird legend, Rear-engine, Rear-wheel-drive no problem because his balls makes up for the balance. The best driving at Nurburgring! no discussion.
not necessarily, keiichi tsuchiya has been drifting since his younger years so that'd definitely be before the 90's. but before drifting was popular outside of japan yeah haha.
What do you mean with sketchy? If you refer to the handling: well that much Power with rwd and rear engine means you will go sideways if you want to or not
haha look at the pass at 05:28 THAT'S what I'm talking about!!! He passed him sideways from the outside! I'm so trying to convince my self to spend my life savings to buy a 1986 911 Turbo with RUF upgrades but then again...I come down to earth and watch this instead!
Awesome video! I've heard of Ruf. But I've never seen one in person. It looks so much like a Porsche 911, that one could easily mistake it for a Porsche. Why do you reckon that is? Did Porsche work with Ruf at any time in either of their lives?
"Ruf Automobile GmbH is a German car manufacturer. Ruf vehicles are derived from unmarked Porsche chassis, specifically known as a Body in white. Through these fundamental platforms, RUF design and engineer its own original vehicles." Basically, RUF engineers super porsche's. They're crazy fast and any of them from the 80's are infamous for being terrifying to drive. They're crazy.
jjnaron1 That actually goes for most porsches from the 70ishs. First 911 (930s) Turbo was called widowmaker for a reason - like any turbo from back in the day, since they basically only knew the states "on" and "off".
Jason Carpp Ruf is a recognised manufacturer taking porsche cars from factory and rebuilding them. They are resold with their own chassis number with porsche approval. Alpina do the same for BMW and Brabus for Mercedes. The car in this video is known as the RUF Yellowbird CTR. Ruf take a 930 chassis and make it into a monster with a top speed of 211.5mph. This is in the 1980's!
Lol your comment reminds me from my favorite stupid line from the original "Fast and Furious": "Your granny shifting instead of double clutching like you should..." Yes because it is 48 deg out and you just started up your 1992 Honda and the synchros havnt warmed up yet lol Thanks for the heads up on the book btw, I am going to pick up a copy on Amazon
This dude has some seriously big balls.. One of the trickiest handling cars ever made. Fantastic driving
his balls were riding shotgun.

In loafers
Dude spanked the car around with total fearlessness, beast of a driver.
It's safe to assume the ones that gave this video thumbs down were the ones that were being passed while on the ring?
this guy walks the fine line between pure fun and instant death. Just great
This is the best car footage video on you tube ever
.
Holy Opposite Lock Steering BATMAN!!
Outstanding driving display by a white socks/leather dress loafers wearing Hero in this iconic RUF.
Fantastic vid!!
The Drivers name is Stefan Roser. Hi were working as a mekanik for RUF.
This might be the most intense / terrifying pass through the Karussell I've ever watched. Amazing control.
"When the rear end's loose, the car's fast. Loose is fast, and on the edge of out of control" - Harry Hogge from Days of Thunder (1990)
Her ass is ALL OVER the place
This is now a freaking legend.
My favourite driving clip on TH-cam.. incredible 👌
This was on Limewire or Napster I remember now! I was just kid and me and my friends thought this guy was crazy!
Incredible driving! A true widow-maker. I would be sweating so hard driving that thing in the 'Ring, even watching it makes my heartbeat rise.
That is an understeer coffin for novice drivers. I love it!!! That guy sure knows how to drive. He's VERY good.
This is EXACTLY how XRG Turbo handles in Live for speed! So much fun!
Deck shoes and short sleeve shirt lapping the green hell in 8:05 seconds. That's just crazy!!
Stefan Roser's driving is such a glorious thing to behold...
Who the fuck dislikes this? This is one of the best car control videos ever made

My god that was an evil handling car! What a handful.
This man is a driving GOD!
Not watched this for a while, its still amazing :)
@gmctech I believe this is Stefan Rosier, RUF's test driver, but i might be wrong?
How is this even humanly possible??? Unreal driving skills...
This is driving with your socks on extreme!

It doesn't look that fast.
@@russellnotestine6436 Fast laps never look fast, that the fastest way around a track is to be in control smooth driving.

yacht shoes and white socks!
That guy's amazing...
Just out of coincidence, That is my favourite car and track in gran turismo on my psp. MAn this guy is just flying!
Per la madonna!!!!! Io sento di amarti dal profondo del cuore, man!!!!
This must be the most suicidal driving I have ever seen :X
Along with Ari Vatanen and Climb dance of course :)
he made it look hard but fun at the same time. he had all the skills for conquering the nurburgring
This was before it was cool to take your car around the Nurburgring. This is some OG shit right here.
I have this car on my Sony VR and I try to re-create this lap quite often. I rarely make it to the compression before I crash and die. On one lap I actually made it to the Karoussel without killing myself but - yep, you guessed it. Wall. Thank God for the reset button. lol.
1989 or so. This is a RUF test driver, its soo badass.
Ruf; Stefan Roser; truly 80's (white socks :) ); just pure engineering and no driving aid.
in order for it to be a save you need to lose control... this guy never loses control

Being a narrow bodied 911 makes this video even more amazing...
Drifting on purpose to go FASTER
he wasnt faster but it was more fun and its better to watch
that turbo sound spooling up
Look in bis hands!! Its like in koks! Wow it is real good!!looks like Walther Röhl

he almost drifted the whole round lol, awesome driver
Best driver i've ever seen
Chuck Norris would bow down to this man. Insane
It's not realy " saves " it's just incredible car control but hey, i'm with you, this guy is a legend.
Some say, this man escaped the farm where the stig was born......
Just a question: What color would the Ruf CTR look best in, in your opinion?
same but this seems much older, early 90s perhaps?
Those are not saves, he knows what the car is going to do in the corner and he is able to counter that; the car must inspire so confidence, it's crazy.
Mistrz! Nie ogarniam jak on szybko kierownicą kręci:) Kto z gazety Top Gear??:D
