Exactly, the thing is one of the reasons why this alpha is so good is because mega guilds will push everything to its limits. All of the so far *mega* guilds from the content creator standpoint (except narc I think) all have roots in major MMO's of their time and have lead very large groups back in the day. Thor will absolutely stress test this to its very core and other groups may get jealous of his success but this all within testing. My major concern, is will guilds/groups withhold reporting bugs and major loopholes during this phase of testing?

For those of us oldies we remember shadowbane. One mega guild will almost always rule the server. There will be other guilds for sure on the outskirts and alliances and etc but there is no getting over power in numbers. The biggest guild will own the most important nodes.

This is very possible, but at least for Launch I know Narc will keep playing, And Asmongold has been looking for a game to replace WoW for sometime. And Thor was a longtime Eve player who also is looking for a new home so I could at least see those 3 staying long term.

I joined a pretty massive guild when new world dropped, for the first month it was great, there was competition, we were fighting other guilds in pvp and all, and then there was a massive drop off. The issue with streamer guilds is the majority of players arent there for the game but for the person, and those streamers never stick around. That said, Thor from PIrate software seems like he'll stick around, so I'd likely avoid his server, but yeah, the biggest guilds are the hardest to run and always implode shortly after

So, I was farming mobs with my guild on the third floor of Carphin the other night when I noticed the world famous youtuber and streamer Narc flying around on his super cool flying mount mount. He looked pretty impressive up there, casting a huge shadow over the area while we effortlessly cleared packs. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to say hi, so I shouted up at him, “Hey look its Narc, our beloved copium king!” He paused mid-air, hovering above us, and looked down. Instead of the friendly wave I expected, he just gave me this smirk and typed, "Shush pleb, just keep sitting down there farming." Then he started spamming the /yawn emote while circling around us like he was too good to help. I shrugged it off, but then he dismounted right in the middle of our pull and started casting AOE heals and buffs. He wasn’t even targeting our party; he was just throwing out heals to show off. It actually pulled half the mob pack off us and onto him. As he stood there surrounded by mobs, he typed, “Watch and learn,” then threw down a flashy heal-over-time spell, clearly trying to solo them all. But one of the elite mobs slammed him with a stun. He tried to recover by casting a big heal, but another mob interrupted him, and his health started dropping fast. Within seconds, he was overwhelmed and was laying on the ground reduced too nothing but the glint he dropped. My whole party just watched him die and saw his pile of glint sitting there. We then looted his corpse, feeling vindicated. Just as we were getting back to work, he sent me a private message that said, “Nobody needs to know about this, alright"
Mega guilds normally destroy the servers they are on. When other guilds can't farm boss loot etc., they will never be able to challenge the mega guilds. Then the run to the exits starts.
Intrepid should restrict the streamer plague and their zombies to streamer servers only. Their presence, and especially ideas of massive zerg "empires" which game the guild system limitations will do nothing good for the AoC experience.
I'm hoping that the pre reservations will give people the chance to avoid them, however if you come in late you could be in for a surprise if you didn't pay attention.

@@PureLanceTea Not everyone is going to be aware of this problem or do any research. Servers dominated by massive "empires" will be dysfunctional, whatever those streamers quite the game after a while or stay. Monopoly brings nothing good to anything.

You think non-streamers won't exploit this and create massive guilds dominating the server? Overall: you should never give the whole power to players, the will pretty much always ruin it. Main power should be the system and the player should have their place in there - no matter if a giant guild, big guild, small guild or solo. That's what the game itself must deliver and it's not that hard to do this.
One of the biggest problems with MMOs has been forced party gameplay with no counter option for lone player or small group advantage. I would honestly prefer seeing both types of gameplay being rewarded than heavily rewarding group play only. That would truly be something new and remove a big negative to MMOs as traditionally implemented.

In today's world these games lose players because they don't realize most people don't have time to be there for big group content, and the game makes them quit because there is no way they can do shit in the game after leveling up... It's almost certain that the diplomacy nodes are going to be ruled by streamers and big guilds. It just makes the most sense as they can mobilize the votes needed to own them. Just as likely to control the divine and mercantile nodes, again because of numbers. Interestingly enough the combat nodes with arena combat are likely to be the ones more fairly distributed.
Remains to be seen whether the divine PvE quests can be communally organized, or if they will go corrupt to prevent competition. If mercantile is just straight player gold (and not node currency) then yes large guilds can pool it.

From what I remember there will be a cap on offense and defense for node wars. Mega guilds will mainly be a problem with political nodes which at release should be votes for mayor while the other 3 types had differing election conditions and caravans. with the disbanding guilds, it has been mentioned that guilds will have a level/talent system where they could get guild perks or increased guild member limit so disbanding a guild just to avoid a war won't be effective.

As someone who is in the pirates guild group, for me its more about having a consistent community to hang out with. I might help with some of the pvp stuff but its more about having people to help each other. And I think Thor and the rest of the pirates leaders have good experience based on running their Eve group so long.
As I'm in Overlord I honestly have been pretty impressed with how pirates have been acting, usually large guilds like that have many rogues doing whatever they want, but so far so good. Does Thor give you guys any instructions like don't be a asshat or anything?
@TheHiddenDaggerInn yes, there is a pretty standard code of conduct and they say they can ban you from the guild for violations. Thor also has kept a reasonably solid arm on the broader community, not afraid to ban people for not respecting him or the community or whatever. He does his best to keep the community positive and respectful for everyone.

I’m not really sure what happened, sounds like there was some miscommunication and haven was karma bombing with a level 4. That being said I want there for that so can’t really speak on it. We did declare war and a a few times some guys spawned camped them which many of us disagreed with. Haven shortly disbanded their guild to avoid war. But it sounds like it might not of been fully justified anyway. As far as I’m concerned unless new drama comes up it’s a dead issue to me but I’ve been hearing a lot of talk from them. I’m just going to go where the guild points me as I’m just a peon. But no I don’t condone griefing if that happened.

Put guild cap at 100 members, with alliances limited to one other guild. Circumvention of this system should be viewed as exploitation resulting in ban.
@ currently for release it’s been upgraded to 50 from 30 and I imagine they will keep slowly bumping it up to reach their desired limit if 300. We will see how well it works it really all depends how important these guild perks will be.
I wouldn't change anything really. This is going to happen one way or another and I don't think it's so disruptive. I think the game will have 40 some nodes at launch right? Lets say there's 10 really dominating guilds. That leaves 75% of them for the average player. And the big 10 would naturally be seen as the 'evil empire' to the rest. And that's good emergent gameplay. It encourages the average joe from the backwater node to form alliances themselves and go after the big guilds. Remember: Being outnumbered may just mean you've found a target rich environment.
I wouldn't worry too much about Mega Guild's because everyone who is waiting on the release of AoC will be in retirement homes playing gin rummy by the time it's released.

When the game goes live, on all servers, eventually the Metropolis's will all be controlled by large guilds who will have their satellite guilds controlling all the zone of influence nodes (level 3 and higher) around their Metropolis. If the Metropolis large guild does not control all of it's zone of influence nodes (level 3 and higher) , then these uncontrolled nodes will belong to their enemy guilds. Great fun, eh?
Steven: if you try to grief somebody off the game you will be banned immediately. Thor (piratesoftware): hey guys we are going to grief this guild with 1000 players until they quit the game. Steven: very cool! i won't do anything! Steven: hey look some random solo player attacked a streamer, INSTANT permban!
That's not how things happened at all. They were reporting bugs and the got stream sniped. So their guild started killing the stream snipers. Then the stream sniper's guild started mass reporting pirate software, and publicly bragging that they were doing so, trying to get him banned. So Pirate's guild set the sniper's guild to at war, and now it's working out exactly how one would think. This isn't griefing, this is emergent diplomacy. And I'm here for it.
Hundreds of people already quit the alpha server I'm on cause there were guilds that spawn camped the starting zone for the past two weeks (somewhere around 20-30% of the server population at the time quit to another server). 2 of the 5 nodes were dead for a week, 1 still is. Devs said they can't do anything about it, they have no counter systems to it, no matter how much we asked them for it. No warnings, no nothing. Asmongold gets killed on the streamer server, suddenly they will have methods to counter this in a week. Just how the world works.

You know like stating the goal is to make literal children quit playing the game. That guild has made a statement. You should go read it, and ignore streamers on ego trips. Who cares if he gets sniped. Don't stream it then dude. It's not some grand offense.

I think the mega guilds will get together on a couple of servers. It's not much fun to be the only kid on a playground.

Hard disagree that getting to level 10 "isn't that hard to do". The experience hike from Lv9 to Lv10 is actually rough. Also currently Lv13 atm.
Some people have the perception of level 10 being quick because the plunder quests were available at level 1.
We'll see how it goes after the reset.

It's 1 freehold per account, not citizen.

If the Metropolis large guild does not control all of it's zone of influence nodes (level 3 and higher) , then these uncontrolled nodes will belong to their enemy guilds. Great fun, eh?
This all works, when you have the player numbers... but we all know where these PVP focused MMOs will end up...

@@justinwhite2725 this was something that happened to us this past weekend when we declared war, right now there is nothing in place to prevent it.
anytime you give people a chance to make a game unplayable for other people it won't succeed.... big groups kill games like this all the time.

That's not how things happened at all.
They were reporting bugs and the got stream sniped. So their guild started killing the stream snipers.
Then the stream sniper's guild started mass reporting pirate software, and publicly bragging that they were doing so, trying to get him banned.
So Pirate's guild set the sniper's guild to at war, and now it's working out exactly how one would think.
This isn't griefing, this is emergent diplomacy. And I'm here for it.

Hundreds of people already quit the alpha server I'm on cause there were guilds that spawn camped the starting zone for the past two weeks (somewhere around 20-30% of the server population at the time quit to another server). 2 of the 5 nodes were dead for a week, 1 still is. Devs said they can't do anything about it, they have no counter systems to it, no matter how much we asked them for it. No warnings, no nothing. Asmongold gets killed on the streamer server, suddenly they will have methods to counter this in a week. Just how the world works.
@@henrychurch6062 this is literally devoid of reality. That is unprovable at best. Additionally Steven stated that there is a point where the goal is to go beyond the game. You know like stating the goal is to make literal children quit playing the game. That guild has made a statement. You should go read it, and ignore streamers on ego trips. Who cares if he gets sniped. Don't stream it then dude. It's not some grand offense.

Just avoid streamer servers and it will make the game more fun
