These are reliable out to 2 miles, over hills, valleys and bad weather so far. They are CLEAR and cheap, very happy!

its kind of weird, I think pushing the buttons all at the same time, as directed, is a bit finicky. Those with small hands have issues ...... took me 3 tries, then it worked....looking back I was not holding all the buttons right

Match the frequencies, but it won't be private, but honestly these wont go over a mile unless on a repeater so no one will hear you. Getting some GMRS radios sent to me soon, these should be nice!

So different law's etc, may apply?

I have a 48" antenna for my kit, its about a 5 mile range with mountains and up to around 20 or more on flatter terrains, a bit quieter at longer distance but understandable
Range depends on terrain. Tall buildings/heavy trees, etc. will limit to possibly only a few hundred feet. Open planes or atop two mountains will be line of sight, so virtually unlimited range

Firmware versions in the last couple of years dont expand without certain CPS software and a PC. Forget Baofeng get the new Quanshang UV5R plus. 6 bands out of the box and reflashable for more, and about the same money
no you "can" its not legal on some of them so I advise knowing the radio. I have a GMRS licence, so I can on many of the best frequencies, with all the FRS frequencies also. In an emergency I also have HAM repeaters loaded, these HAM Repeaters go even farther but require a licence in NON emergency situations.

2013 models weren't locked. You can already transmit on all the frequencies the radio is capable of.

must be some models they locked...Ive heard a few wouldn't unlock. Try Radioddity ask them which one will unlock order from them, $20 BAOFENGs

Keep holding them down all the way through boot up. Maybe you’re just letting go too soon.
It might already be unlocked. One of mine came pre jailbroken, didn't say "factory" when I did it.
