Finally someone said it! I was never a fan of ZHC's work but I really gave that channel a try. His channel was all about NUMBERS and clickbaits, never about art quality. I really gave that channel a try because of his following. I was thinking, maybe I was missing something, but after watching this, I guess I got the confirmation that I needed.

My teacher gave us a prompt each day. One day I was drawing a bloody nose, the next day it was a flower. The prompts were very open, but still got us drawing all different kinds of things.
I still love his video s and watch them but I feel like the customisation videos are getting a little repetitive tbh. I wish he would just go back to normal videos and just make tutorials or just normal challenges. Like I said, I’m still subbed to him with notifications and watch his videos when he uploads, but I just miss his old videos where he actually drew instead of customising. Now his subscribers are half humble subscribers who actually love his videos (like me and my friends) and then we have the other half, which is people who are just there for the giveaways!

Exactly. I personally don’t find much enjoyment in simplified art styles. The more details crammed in, the more I tend to enjoy it. That’s the thing with art. There really is no wrong way to do it. What one person may think is inferior, another may think is masterful. It’s all taste and perception.

I dunno she's also still a student and her style is is emphasizing facial emotion and design, not anatomy so it'd be kind of off beat to talk about her. He talks about big deal professionals and how looking up to them is hard because their styles aren't easy to follow and have their own mistakes

Very respectful criticism, just telling us students how it is. I would recommend ZHC channel for entertainment content, but not for learning art or following along. It’s just as simple as that. I appreciate this video greatly and you have earned a like good sir👍
this is the thing I have been trying to say. I really enjoyed his old content but now he just does the same thing over and over with very little art. all his videos are pretty much the same, “CUSTOMISING [ITEMS] AND GIVING THEM AWAY”. this formula works for him but I personally dislike it as it’s lazy and does not involve much art.

Even though I don't have the money to buy a drawing tablet( I am 12 btw sooo) You helped me rethink about the methods I used to make art . you forgot to mention that ‘his’ art style is basically just a btec David Finch. Finch is evidently a massive inspiration for his art and some of zhc’s pieces are almost direct copies of Finch’s or very heavily referenced from.
I mean art styles are not singular to one specific person and some people will have similar things, and theres nothing wrong with inspiration. It would be different though if ZHC was taking another artists work and tracing over it and claiming it as his own. People can reference other works, its what happens in art schools, its how people learn. But full on theft would be an issue. And there is no such thing as style theft by the way. If there were, then companies like Disney wouldnt be able to have full teams of artists and animators working on a film or project.

ZHC understands the Beauty of Art. What he sometimes doesn't understand is the Anatomy of Art. I'd like to clarify that I'm nowhere near his level of Art, but I'm learning more and more about Anatomy, and how it translates into Animation. Stills in animation are very important to the flow of the scene. We'll use the Marshmello drawing provided to us, as an example. What Ethan touched on was the right arm, and I want to point out just how stiff the arm looks. ZHC could've emphasized power with that drawing, if he added more weight to the right arm. Now, what does that mean, exactly? Well, when you swing a bat, or an axe, your forearm is swinging after your arm is, but with the Marshmello Drawing, that isn't happening. This more than likely is a nitpick from me, but I just wanted to leave some Educational Constructive Criticism. ZHC is, in no way, a bad artist, and I've been watching his videos for years now.

Times like these, I curse the heavens for what they did to me. I literally have two sketchbooks. Same brand, number of pages, and even using the same pens/markers. I like to call them: “pre” and “post” diagnosis books. I used to be great at still life stuff. Mainly architectural references or semi caricatured pictures of people. Then in 2014 I started getting insane headaches constantly (which still happens, but it’s down from 20 days a month in bed to ~10 on average) and a few months later I started shaking consistently. An MRI showed a grape sized tumor on my pituitary and 12 much smaller plaques, abscesses, and tumors all over my brain. I still wanted to draw, but I can’t draw a straight or slightly curved line to save my life anymore. So I started using calligraphy pens to make like “no genre” stuff. Idk what to call it. But I like it anyway. I just miss being able to draw people. I’m too embarrassed to show anyone anything I’ve drawn in the past 7 years. I had loads of artist friends who liked my style because apparently my drawings of people looked nothing like the source but the “style” worked with it. We’d always compare notes like “what do you think of this” type stuff, but sometimes I don’t even want to look at my stuff.
Renegade Art I just don’t understand I guess. I took years of architecture and art classes, and now I’m shot back down to this formless “psychedelic” from what I’ve been told, type of drawing. I decided that no drawing is worthless tho. I’ve started taking drawing and calligraphy seriously because I do want tattoos but I don’t want some premade one or an idea everyone’s already had. That’s helped make them kook better imo, but there’s still only 3 of the dozens of things I’ve drawn that I consider worth it. I don’t know how to ask for advice/tips either. But I guess everyone has a cross in their own ways.

Hello? Bob Ross also had a painting style that was fast though. His paintings only took him like 2 hours to do and that’s pretty quick. That’s a big part of why he got a show. It was because he painted fast enough that people could watch and be entertained without losing interest or it taking multiple days.
I mean that is zhc’s style and what you’re looking more into is like cartoon and more clean drawings, but zhc has a style where his art kinda overwhelms you with details and feels really complex.
Bruh Mr beast actually helps people who need help. ZHC just straight up gives things to the hype house that they can already buy with their money. The only difference is that it just has art lol

I always have trouble with clothing folds and the tutorials i found were a little hard to follow for my currently preferred style, but you explained and illustrated it perfectly and how to simplify the pinch and stretch technique, thank you very much!

Also using masks, shadows, or intense blown out lighting to hide the fact he can't draw faces/expressions. I've checked out his civilians (like the child in his 6 page Marvel comic submission) who aren't muscle-bound masked heros/villains, and this art comes out painfully average at best. @@bubak4960 no, that is genuine criticism. ZHC genuinely isn't that good with those things, it's a harsh form of constructive criticism, but it is directed properly and pointing out his mistakes that he generally refuses to work on.
Indeed. Us Fashion Designer Student (or even the professional fashion designers) can do scribbles like those as an idea, but once we get into the proper illustration or even for a technical drawings, we cannot do many crest and details for clothes bcs if the master cutter or pattern maker or anyone from production stage saw it then they will interpret it as it is. But if its the design then so be it but it is a rare scenario that it happens bcs even in costume designing you shouldn’t add too much details and every detail has different section or layer as we can say it. Simple lines and realistic lines are much more pleasant to the eyes and it is much more relaxing to the eyes.
ZHC went from drawing venom and comic book stuff to just customizing expensive stuff and giving it to millionaire influencers who don't need it. It all went downhill from there. His views and subscribers went up as my respect for him went down.

this is the thing I have been trying to say. I really enjoyed his old content but now he just does the same thing over and over with very little art. all his videos are pretty much the same, “CUSTOMISING [ITEMS] AND GIVING THEM AWAY”. this formula works for him but I personally dislike it as it’s lazy and does not involve much art.

I don’t like watching zhc anymore he used to be a awesome guy (still is) when he went and did tutorials and all that stuff but now he’s doing all of these trendy challenges and whatever not my style but that is my opinion, might sound crude but it’s mine (sorry if I’m sounding rude)

you forgot to mention that ‘his’ art style is basically just a btec David Finch. Finch is evidently a massive inspiration for his art and some of zhc’s pieces are almost direct copies of Finch’s or very heavily referenced from.
I mean art styles are not singular to one specific person and some people will have similar things, and theres nothing wrong with inspiration. It would be different though if ZHC was taking another artists work and tracing over it and claiming it as his own. People can reference other works, its what happens in art schools, its how people learn. But full on theft would be an issue.
And there is no such thing as style theft by the way. If there were, then companies like Disney wouldnt be able to have full teams of artists and animators working on a film or project.

ZHC understands the Beauty of Art. What he sometimes doesn't understand is the Anatomy of Art. I'd like to clarify that I'm nowhere near his level of Art, but I'm learning more and more about Anatomy, and how it translates into Animation. Stills in animation are very important to the flow of the scene. We'll use the Marshmello drawing provided to us, as an example. What Ethan touched on was the right arm, and I want to point out just how stiff the arm looks. ZHC could've emphasized power with that drawing, if he added more weight to the right arm. Now, what does that mean, exactly? Well, when you swing a bat, or an axe, your forearm is swinging after your arm is, but with the Marshmello Drawing, that isn't happening. This more than likely is a nitpick from me, but I just wanted to leave some Educational Constructive Criticism. ZHC is, in no way, a bad artist, and I've been watching his videos for years now.

As an animation student i want to tell you all that this is exactly what our art community need to grow professional art !!We need more like him!!
Times like these, I curse the heavens for what they did to me. I literally have two sketchbooks. Same brand, number of pages, and even using the same pens/markers. I like to call them: “pre” and “post” diagnosis books. I used to be great at still life stuff. Mainly architectural references or semi caricatured pictures of people. Then in 2014 I started getting insane headaches constantly (which still happens, but it’s down from 20 days a month in bed to ~10 on average) and a few months later I started shaking consistently. An MRI showed a grape sized tumor on my pituitary and 12 much smaller plaques, abscesses, and tumors all over my brain.
I still wanted to draw, but I can’t draw a straight or slightly curved line to save my life anymore. So I started using calligraphy pens to make like “no genre” stuff. Idk what to call it. But I like it anyway. I just miss being able to draw people.
I’m too embarrassed to show anyone anything I’ve drawn in the past 7 years. I had loads of artist friends who liked my style because apparently my drawings of people looked nothing like the source but the “style” worked with it. We’d always compare notes like “what do you think of this” type stuff, but sometimes I don’t even want to look at my stuff.
If you aren't comfortable with anyone seeing it thats fine, as long as you enjoy the process thats what matters
Renegade Art I just don’t understand I guess. I took years of architecture and art classes, and now I’m shot back down to this formless “psychedelic” from what I’ve been told, type of drawing. I decided that no drawing is worthless tho. I’ve started taking drawing and calligraphy seriously because I do want tattoos but I don’t want some premade one or an idea everyone’s already had. That’s helped make them kook better imo, but there’s still only 3 of the dozens of things I’ve drawn that I consider worth it. I don’t know how to ask for advice/tips either. But I guess everyone has a cross in their own ways.

Hello? Bob Ross also had a painting style that was fast though. His paintings only took him like 2 hours to do and that’s pretty quick. That’s a big part of why he got a show. It was because he painted fast enough that people could watch and be entertained without losing interest or it taking multiple days.

Of course it's his choice to make that content, and if you enjoy it then that's okay, I support. But like Ethan said in this video, if you're actually trying to learn something, he's not the guy to go to. Of course he puts in the effort, but he doesn't really have a clear technique or idea of what he's doing. He's just not a great guy to learn from. I'd say most of his audience isn't really into art or really have an interest in it anyway.

Also using masks, shadows, or intense blown out lighting to hide the fact he can't draw faces/expressions. I've checked out his civilians (like the child in his 6 page Marvel comic submission) who aren't muscle-bound masked heros/villains, and this art comes out painfully average at best. @@bubak4960 no, that is genuine criticism. ZHC genuinely isn't that good with those things, it's a harsh form of constructive criticism, but it is directed properly and pointing out his mistakes that he generally refuses to work on.

Us Fashion Designer Student (or even the professional fashion designers) can do scribbles like those as an idea, but once we get into the proper illustration or even for a technical drawings, we cannot do many crest and details for clothes bcs if the master cutter or pattern maker or anyone from production stage saw it then they will interpret it as it is. But if its the design then so be it but it is a rare scenario that it happens bcs even in costume designing you shouldn’t add too much details and every detail has different section or layer as we can say it. Simple lines and realistic lines are much more pleasant to the eyes and it is much more relaxing to the eyes.

ZHC went from drawing venom and comic book stuff to just customizing expensive stuff and giving it to millionaire influencers who don't need it. It all went downhill from there. His views and subscribers went up as my respect for him went down.
