Thanks! I look for this info too. For the info of your viewers, the Seagate Expansion 8TB I just purchased today has a drive model ST8000DM004-2CX188 which is an SMR Seagate Barracuda Compute. It makes me sad. It's less expensive to buy a Barracuda and a 3.5" drive case. WD Blue budget hard drives are CMR. Have a great day!
I bought this and it’s very slow and there are a lot of people complaining about how the drive fails early. Definitely look at the reviews before you buy products as this product is not very good… I’m sending mine back.
That's crazy, the same drive selling for 38K as internal and 28K as external !! Really nice device, I also have a portable WD my passport HDD, and it also provides the same speed (120MB/s while copying). Great buy 👍🏻
Exos drives are helium filled what increases hailur rate after few years, as helium gets out of the disk and air is comming in. I cannot believe they did put it into an external storage drive...
As video games get more complex graphically, I am thinking about ditching the hard drive and going all in on internal ssd storage. Hard drived don't take advantage of your internet speed full potential. On my internal ssd I get 400mbps all the time. On both my external hard drive and internal hard drive I get between 50mbps and 200mbps and it always jumps around when downloading a game. Hard drives aren't bad for older games but it's 2024 and games now need that ssd.
This drive is more for backup. Ssd's have a limit to how many times it can be written to, terabytes or petabytes written as per capacity. Platter based hdds are better at lasting if kept safe. For performance while running games and apps a nvme ssd is much better.
Thanks for making this video! I had been considering getting one after the Backup Plus Hub was discontinued (I actually used the hub on those!). (1:07) That's one thing I like about Seagate external desktop hard drives, as my use case involves travelling to different countries with one in a checked-in bag and I prefer to just swap out the plugs instead of using plug converters where possible.
Does the 12tb version also have the same drives (exos) ?? Edit- ended up buying it, and it does! Only 12TB and bigger storage ones come with exos while below 12TB ones come with iron wolf/other Seagate drives.
If the drive is plugged in to a electrically powered USB hub with it's own power adaptor, is the power adapter still required for the drive to work? Thank you.
Great insight, Im a fan of Seagate - still rock my old 2TB HDD, my 4TB SSD is almost filled up, will consider either this or some other by Seagate, but thanks for the information!
It has a proprietary connector on the HDD which cannot be changed, but you can convert the usb-a to usb-c using an adapter if you need to connect to a laptop.
@@TalkingstuffNet Yes, my bluray player does have the usb media playback. Currently I'm using normal portable hdd to watch movies. Format wise, are they the same between the normal portable and this Seagate hard drive? Thanks!
I bought a new expansion 14 tb, when adding a new folder, it sometimes makes some sounds. I have a question: is this normal if when buying a hard drive, some sounds can just appear sometimes or is this an indicator of a defect?
Both Seagate and WD tend to use their enterprise grade drives within their external enclosures for models over around 12Tb, I think. However, the reason this is done is because it isn't straightforward to shuck the drives. Some WD models do something with a certain set of pins on the SATA connector to prevent the drive powering up when connected to an internal connector after shucking. This can be circumvented but you need to follow the instructions on some user produced videos. Many will not want to fiddle with this. My WD 14Tb Elements external drive is an Enterprise grade WD Red Pro drive and,, like the Seagate models, was significantly cheaper than buying the same model as a bare drive.
The transfer speed is pretty disappointing. For the last year I have been using a bunch of WD 18TB My Books, the average transfer speeds I get are between 175 to 190 MB/s. WD has definitely cheaped out with the built quality, the plastic makes a squeaky sound but hey you don't roam around with desktop drives.
Great video! So I have a question, a usb 2tb drive that I have keeps connecting and reconnecting repeatedly on different pc.. Any idea what might be the problem?
@@TalkingstuffNet perfect, thank you! I’ll do the same. I really appreciate your thorough review and your prompt response. You just got yourself a sub :)
As a backup external drive, yes it will. But you cannot play games off this drive as it's much slower than ssd's. You can move games to this drive to make space to install new games in your main drive.
@@TalkingstuffNet Me thinking I can change that. Me at the same time smashes like the green hulk the whole thing and then just add a new disk to it. Me very happy. 🤌🏻🤙🏻
The drive sucks, keeps on going to sleep too often, the software that should allow you to change the sleep time is mentioned on Seagate's support page but no download link for it exists...

I am gonna definitely buy Seagate 16tb External hdd

My 6T Expansion makes LOUD NOISE. It sits on a shelf and I hear it through the wall in the livingroom
do you keep your hard drive ON all the time or you disconnect it after your file transfer or when not used ??
I connect it only when i need to take backups, mostly it's kept safe away from the system.
How does it sound on spin up? Does your drive make loud clicking noise shortly after plugging into USB or it's just mine?
Yes, we can hear the spin up and also clicking when first connected to your pc/power. It is a loud drive. It vibrates too.
Buen Video, Este disco duro al estar en funcionamiento es ruidoso o no?
es un ruido audible cuando se ejecuta.
Do you know if we can upgrade to a USB Type C cord, or can we only use the type A that came in the box?
It has a proprietary connector on the HDD which cannot be changed, but you can convert the usb-a to usb-c using an adapter if you need to connect to a laptop.
Will this plug into the USB port on my 4K tv and work?
Very Informative Video, Thank you very much 🙏
Can i open and take out the Drive to add this directly to the PC to get more speed ?
@@fakepropoganda8497 no it cannot be done as it's soldered in a way to prevent users from removing the drive and connecting it to a sata port.
Can this be connected via USB straight to my Blu-ray player and watch movies if I have movies in this copied to this hard drive?
If the blueray player supports external usb media playback it will. I'm only worried about Ntfs support.
@@TalkingstuffNet Yes, my bluray player does have the usb media playback. Currently I'm using normal portable hdd to watch movies. Format wise, are they the same between the normal portable and this Seagate hard drive? Thanks!
Can this drive be used laying on its side to prevent it from falling over accidentally when sitting on my desk?
It can be used flat (laying down) or even vertical. When flat it won't fall as easily.
I bought a new expansion 14 tb, when adding a new folder, it sometimes makes some sounds. I have a question: is this normal if when buying a hard drive, some sounds can just appear sometimes or is this an indicator of a defect?
It is a noisy hard drive, as long as it's not a clanging sound you're fine. Clicks and Brr, brr sounds are standard.
@@TalkingstuffNetit sounds like br Chik br but after a couple of hours it disappears.
If you're not using it for some time it spins down, when you access it again it spins up making noise again.
Hi, was it showed as STKP16000402 model when you purchased it?

This is a Seagate not WD
How to use recover data option?
You will need to contact Seagate for data recovery.
Great review! Thanks for your work! Liked!
Great video! So I have a question, a usb 2tb drive that I have keeps connecting and reconnecting repeatedly on different pc.. Any idea what might be the problem?
Try changing the cable, maybe it's damaged or try another port on the laptop/desktop.
Awesome, this might be the next drive for me. I didn’t see a review a month later on your channel. How is it holding up?
Still my main backup drive, i only remove it to backup new edits then store it in a safe location.
@@TalkingstuffNet perfect, thank you! I’ll do the same. I really appreciate your thorough review and your prompt response. You just got yourself a sub :)
Can I use this drive 24 x 7 with a work station?
You can, but more meant to be a backup drive. It's not very fast to work off of for editing, but for word, excel etc it's fast enough.
can you transfer files via pc without the power cord and just the usb cord?
The power cord is required to use the drive.
Hi Sir, Your videos are very good and informative.
Please use fresh color background it will be nice.
Can this be used with the Xbox one or Xbox series X/S? (Thank you in advance)
It can be connected as an external backup storage, but the xbox won't allow it to be used as a game drive.
Can you lay this flat rather than keeping it upright?
Yes, it can be laid flat too.
Can u access the data via wireless? With Bluetooth. Or do you always have to connect with cable?
We can access it via the cable only.
give me a data sheet link
Is this better than a Lacie?
Seagate Exos drives are pretty good. Lacie is Seagate's premium brand.
Informative .. make more videos on new tech.
Thank you for watching 😁
does it support India plug ?

how to I find the what is inside hard drive
Use a software like crystal disk info and find the serial number. Search for that serial number on Google and you'll find which drive model you have.
thanks for reply this is my model STKP8000400 but i cant find
You need to find the serial number of the drive within, which you can find using software like crystal disk info.
