As a plus sized person i personally dont take offense to artists making her plus sized. It is realistic that characters with food related hobbies or who dont excersize as much would sometimes have a bigger body type. However, i totally agree with what you said about artists ONLY making the baker plus sized. I think a lot of people dont quite understand that hobbies can affect a persons body type, but not always. Sometimes people who eat a ton and dont excersize are skinny, and sometimes people who diet and work out are fat, and i hope more artists come to understand that
yeah i 100% agree making her plus sized is cool but she shouldnt be "the token fat chick" so if someones gonna make her plus size it'd be nice to have other diverse body type with some of the other rivals as well, ykno?
Chefs and bakers aren't always fat so I think either can amkes sense especially if she is the type to make food to give away or because she loves seeing others enjoy it so doesn't eat too much of it if at all.
Curves and plus size body types are often associated with mothers and warmth. I think people design Amai as plus size because those associations fit her personality

hey so. as a character designer and big person myself, it's always read more to me as.... shape language? Triangles are associated with aggression, squares with stability, and circles with softness. She's sweet, compassionate, disarming.... hence, people who redesign her incorporate circles and rounder edges into her redesign. hell, I would probably do that when redesigning her.
Hey! My opinion is that making Amai plus size reflects on her bubbly and sweet personality more! In my culture it is said that those you have a chubbier figure are more approachable and loyal which in my opinion is who Amai is made out to be! Again this is just an opinion each to their own :)
i would say that making amai fatter for this reason would be suitable for her personality. but i would also say that making someone like megami fatter, someone who is unapproachable and feared (the opposite of amai relatively), would be a good way to show that fat people can be more than one thing and act more than one way. just a thought tho

It’s like you said, I honestly am not big on yandere simulator asI don’t know much about it, but when I first saw her design I thought she’d make a good character to be on the shorter, chubbier side! Not necessarily because of the food, but because she seems so bubbly and joyful, and it just kinda made sense to me. Rather than “A baker who’s plus sized” it’s simply “A plus sized baker.” [or maybe the other way around im kinda slow right now-] Obviously it’s not something that needs to be there, but I think when it comes down to bubbly and happy things, the brain can tend to associate it with being squishy! (i'm both plus sized and a baker for background) and honestly i feel like if people are going for the shape language route where they draw her with a bigger figure for a more kind/approachable personality, i don't see why being a baker doesn't correlate with that? yanderedev is a creep so this is not anything to do with him, but i think there is something to be said about the correlation between kind/caring characters and cooking ability- after all, what's more caring than being able to feed those around you? so i understand why some people would be suspicious about the baker being the only plus-sized rival (and if she was the only plus-sized character in the whole game i would maybe be weirded out) but i think a natural extension of the round shape language equaling a kind character is that she does crafts or cooks or bakes. it just makes sense to me idk

I feel like amai would be the type to only make food for herself when she's making it for someone else too, which could tie back to why she likes the main boy. "I started treating myself better because we started hanging out" type fashion

With the glove thing for Megami I like to think that she wears gloves to school because of the fact that she is aware of Ayano being there, so in case Ayano ever tries something like framing her with a boxcutter, she'd have her gloves on for no fingerprints :] otherwise she could always keep a handkerchief with her lol
The thing is, opera length gloves like Megami's are very unhygenic, hard to take on and off, and are made solely of materials that would smudge fingerprints. Wrist length white examiner's gloves would make a lot more sense on every level.
I remember series of redesigns and they never reached Megami because they weren't finalized and Megami is the last rival, or because the person didn't want to make all the rivals like what you did here, sometimes just Ayano and the first rivals to give the example.
I'm on the heavier side myself, and I do think Amai being plus sized is really cute! It makes her look super soft, which fits her vibe in my opinion. (I also like her kind of being... similar to the stuff she bakes? That's a personal preference when it comes to character design in general) But I do agree that her being the only one people make bigger feels wrong. While it makes sense for her, not only are many people that bake or are into food in general NOT plus sized, but the opposite also applies. People can be fat and not be into food at all, and/or be super active!

I wouldn't design Amai as plus sized because she's a baker, but I think she'd look cute as rounder because of shape language. She's a soft girl, so a round body type would compliment it. Like seriously, when you said people designed her as plus sized I was like "oh, she'd look cute rounder, it'd match her soft personality so well!" And then you mentioned her being a baker and I went, "oh."
On the topic of Amai: I’m very torn. Every time I see an plus size Amai redesign, it makes me happy to see her plus size because she’s the cutest rival and most likely to end up with Taro imo. But I never considered her being plus size comes from her baking hobby? I don’t think she should be the only plus size girly at all. I think the goth girl (I don’t remember her name omg I haven’t heard their names in years) should also be plus sized because… I said so 👍🏾 I’m not plus size so my opinion doesn’t really matter. I’d love to hear everyone else’s takes on this.
This isn’t a criticism but when you wanted to make her darker skinned and immediately went to make her half black I feel like that was a miss opportunity to explore the darker skinned Asian ethnicities that are often forgotten/ignored. This is purely a suggestion for next time the design you made was wonderful!
I also thought Megami’s design was really weird especially how her chest was like weirdly floating? 😭 I also really like the idea that she would be the more feared and intimidating by other people kind of popular. Plus I love the jacket you added it makes her look so much more formal and organized:)
On the topic of body type/body shape for baker characters, thinking about what they bake and how can lead to what they look like. Kneading bread and whisking things by hand is a freaking workout. If I baked as much as I assume Amai would my arms would be so freakin toned! (I hand whisk everything. I don't own a stand mixer and hate how the hand mixer sounds against my bowls. Whipping frost can be a pain.) And of course having arm strength/having visible muscle doesn't mean a person can't also be chubby.
yeah...you didn't have to do Rapunzel's hair to Osana... but the length of her hair is part of her story, she says that she lets it grow as part of a wish (to be with Senpai) Besides that her yelling pose is because she's a Tsundere, the point is that she looks like a bully more than a critic
Maybe this shorter-haired Osana is her after she gets over pursuing Taro. She realizes she should choose her haircut based on what she wants for herself, not others. It could be a sign of growth. Also, cutting hair is a ritual for mourning in many parts of the world. As she gets over Taro and lets go of that dream, she mourns it, but moves on. Character growth and change could lend her more depth and get away from the demonizing of assertive women we see so much in media.

I’m a big fan of your work and I really don’t mean to come off like I’m attacking you it’s just something I find personally offensive I’m not trying to speak for poc or anyone other than myself, but I’m Asian and PERSONALLY find it kind of offensive when someone changes the race of an Asian character, because it’s disregarding my race and changing it to something completely different and kind of communicating the message that people shouldn’t be Asian or something? I didn’t phrase that well but that’s sort of how it feels. I’m not trying to attack you at all and I love your videos and your art is amazing but I found this kind of offensive but you don’t have to take my personal opinion! I just wanted to try and say something I don’t know if you’ll even see this but like 🤷
I love your re-designs! They're very grounded, diverse, and the posing has so much character! But I do think some of the traits in the originals, while unrealistic, add more interest to the design. Your character designs are almost /too much/ like genuine highschool students. Amai's apron would break up the simple outfit, and Osana's crazy long hair is great for her silhouette, iconic, and a hint for the player's extermination options. Maybe Magami could even have long acrylic nails to show she doesn't like "getting her hands dirty", so to speak- emphasizing how much she relies on her intelligence. But I really think you did an amazing job!
I remember having an unhealthy yandere sim obsession, i watched EVERY single KubzScouts video playing it, and i even tried to download it on an old computer... I gave the computer 2 viruses by accident I'm p sure💀 Also, i LOVE these redesigns, yours are much prettier and feel alot more original (also same, i hate stereotypes Lol) Keep up the awesome work!!

I believe that the art is nice and comprehensive; however, the different personalities of each character gets lost in favor of being realistic which makes the piece seem muted. While I agree the socks were a little out there, some other colorful items could have been added to give each girl some variance than wearing the same uniform with the only differences being the leg wear and small accessories. Other that that, I think the redesigns look cute.

Well I like the original sprites 🤷 but to call their designs ugly is too rude in relation to their preferences and to the artist. there are many things that some people like but others don't like. elastic bands and polka dots, or black gloves and stockings. they are unrealistic - this is the reason why they may seem strange to someone - because in real life people have never walked like this, and as they go in something, they are immediately muddied and morally suppressed your style is different. it's not bad, but it's completely different styles and atmosphere.
Making Amai plus sized is totally fine, but if the reason is just because she is a baker, I find it a bit stereotypical. To give someone a certain body BASED off of what they do or like doesn't seem very realistic. Not all bakers or people that work in the kitchen are all gonna be chubby, not all people that do sports or work out are all gonna be skinny. I also agree that it is a bit strange that in Yandere Simulator redesigns, she's usually the only one that is made to be plus sized. It's okay to be any body type despite what your hobbies are. It's not JUST chefs or bakers that need to be plus sized. I also want to clarify that some people make her plus sized because how nice, shy and kind she is. But I also find this stereotypical because not ALL plus sized or chubby people are gonna be nice. People can be written mean but have a chubby body, right? It goes for some skinny people to. Not all skinny people are going to be mean or bullies. Skinny people can be nice and shy too. Body types shouldn't be in categories based on how they act because that isn't realistic either.

As someone who’s plus sized, I take no offense to plus sized versions of Amai, and working in a bakery can indeed lead to gaining more weight (I should know, I worked in one and gained weight there). However you’re right about it being unfortunate that characters who work with food tend to be the fat ones, if there are fat ones at all. It feels like fat characters HAVE to be in a position like that, and that they HAVE to be one of the sweetest characters to be liked at all. If a tsundere was fat, she would be treated like a big fat bully and wouldn’t be considered “mean but cute about it” like tsunderes tend to be. Sporty characters “can’t” be fat because people missed the memo that skinny ≠ healthy and fat ≠ unhealthy. And don’t even get me started on characters that are supposedly fat, yet all they have are large chests, thighs, and backsides 🙄. Not to mention people can’t be normal about making fat characters and so most fat character’s arcs become about losing weight and turning out to be secretly hot all along, or otherwise trying to diet and failing and realizing they’re fine with the way they look. Skinny people are just people. Fat people are just people. It truly doesn’t have to “fit” with what club they’re in or their personality. Fat, sweet baker is overdone, but it’s ultimately not that bad.
I don’t know if it’s just me but I feel like changing the skin color of a character from white to black is the same as changing a character from black to white just because “you said so”. I just can’t support the idea of changing a characters race or skin color if the creator made them a specific way.

Osana's hair is meant to reflect the anime character, Magical Miyuki (I think) and because Taro likes Miyuki, Osana purposefully grew it out. So, therefore, I still think her twintails should be long. No offense, everything else should be the same (ofc) it's just the hair.
I think also Megami wearing gloves is a good idea because since Megami suspects Ayano to be a murderer, she would wear gloves so it would be harder to frame her.
Honestly Amai's character has always felt bubbly, sweet, kind, and cute like a puppy. And I feel like a chubbier figure can usually show that (shape language hehe), that's why at least in my opinion I think Amai is given a chubby body. I feel like if she was a sewer she would still have that same chubby figure so. edit: Also i love your Osana redesign, it feels like her personality shines through more. but THOSE WARMERS, I love warmers, but the red pulls your attention to the warmers, instead of her face or overall character. I feel like laces with beads in it, or an anklet might be better to not pull so much attention to it maybe? again I LOVE YOU REDESIGN, it's just the warmers.
I always hated making Amai plus sized personally because, as a sort of plus sized small woman, it felt offensive relating it all to sugary sweets, since my weight is from health issues. I always thought that making what's her face, the drama club leader rival, chubby was better because it beat the stereotype of all drama people being thin and scrangly nerds, and in my mind, her want for control would reflect in an eating disorder
@@soandso5058 The thing is is that most don't do just regular plus sized, they do OBESE. Most people think obese means overeating, and so putting it on the only food related character in the game is very offensive

i love your art!! i do have a few notes about osana’s redesign though,, namely her hair and stance. her hair has lore purposes i’m pretty sure (is there even proper lore tho lmao) and also DEFINES her silhouette!! i think keeping it long would’ve really elevated it. as for her stance, it looks strange in the original, but it represents her personality. the pose in the redesign makes her look more… bored? it INSTANTLY reminded me of your monika design (which i loved btwww) and they are *very* different characters personality wise. it just doesn’t read as osana to me and i wasn’t even properly in the fandom,, (all /npa though!! i still think the art looks fantastic, it’s just off for osana specifically!! sorry for the paragraph lol)
I love the more muted color palettes sm! They’re less harsh on the eyes and also just very cute. And I like that each of them has a consistent but also modified uniform

I don’t hate stereotypes, cause there are people who fall under stereotypes. I don’t like the idea of banishing stereotypes because it will still hurt someone out there. I think stereotypes are perfectly fine to use as long as it’s not what you think all those people in the community and or culture are like that and don’t use it negatively. Diversify with stereotypes and non stereotypes to really give recognition to all types of people.
making amai plus size because she's a baker is obviously pretty weird, but it seems odd to me that people are defending the choice by saying that it's because of her personality, because you're still assigning traits to bodies when they don't have anything to do with each other. Like, she's bubbly and cute, so therefore she can be chubby, while the more intimidating, serious or "sexy" characters are all skinny? not to mention that, even though it might not be an active choice, she is the one with a food-related theme/hobby, and that still might subconsciously influence people.

As a plus-sized person, I... don't really care much about plus-sized redesigns? I mean I am all for giving plus-sized characters more to do than just 'does a thing with food'. HOWEVER, being a bigger size does not mean that a character is ugly/undesireable. Yes, it's unhealthy to be overweight or obese, but I have seen so many characters that are thicc and very attractive and very well-designed that I stopped really caring about it. I don't really mind it much when a food-related character is on the heavier side, so long as their design is well-made and the fact they're 'plus-sized' is not used to imply the character is ugly or undesireable. As another commenter said, in the place where I live more cheerful and happy/loyal characters are frequently depicted as being bigger in size- which actually goes for both genders!
I agree with your opininions but the whole reason the characters are in "goofy" poses is to illustrate their characters through the sillohuette which you said but then redesigned them with less dynamic poses.
I think the only thing that bugs me with those designs is that the poses are all very stiff especially compared to the dramatic from the original design I love all the designs especially the last one because the original one was atrocious so it was very refreshing to see lol I always get excited when i get the notif of you posting a new video! The problem with the uniform is that Yan Sim takes place in a prestigious school so the students souldn't use a sailor uniform, if it was a normal school an exception could still be made, but that kind of school needs its own uniform not a sailor one that any other can have.
Pretty sure yandev put megami in gloves for the reason she is supposed to be the hardest rival and framing her would be pretty darn easy if she had no gloves ( I’m aware u could just have it were she doesn’t talk to the player or doesn’t offer help but yan dev is cheap and chooses easy way out of things lol )

I'm pretty sure the reason osanas hair is so long in the game is because she thinks Taro likes girls with long hair. She herself has said that her hair gets super annoying. But I do really love the new design you gave her!!
Well this is an unexpected, but not unwelcome, surprise of a video 😳. You have no idea how many channels I only found because of their redesigns + revamps of the yan sim characters (bcs imo their designs are kind of atrocious 💀). Yet I subbed way before this video for the gorgeous art and amazing art skills and then this comes out haha. This is a great video im so glad you decided to make these redesigns! They are definitely my favourite so far tbh ☺️!

eE more redesigns!! I agree with redesigns that only make the cook girl plus-sized. I imagine a lot of kids/teens don't even realize the connotations to doing that. I just like seeing a lot of different silhouettes and shape-language myself!
I'm plus sized and I have no problem with this; I think it suits her to be chubbier, because the round shape makes her more approachable and I give her more strenght instead of fat because she has to run around in the kitchen.
changing amai's race was just... :/ that isn't necessary, just let her be lightskinned japanese, man. the mint looked just as good with her actual skin tone

I feel like making Amai plus sized had more to do with shape design for some people. Plus sized characters are round, which makes them seem more friendly and approachable. It still leans into the fat baker girl stereotype, but I don't think that was the only reason so many Amai redesigns were plus sized.
I personally love seeing people make Amai plus-size. I think her OG design slightly alludes to a larger body type, but I do agree that people do need to take care and be aware of why they make certain characters plus size and not others. Especially when she's the only character that's plus size, and she just happens to be the one with relations to food. I myself have been guilty in the past of doing this subconsciously, but I always take time to be mindful of my decisions, and why I'm making them, and I find that helps me not be accidentally biased and offensive, even within my own community of plus-size individuals
These redesigns are so gorgeous! I love the uniforms too because I always thought the original ones in the game always looked a bit weird to me. Also, YOU have a GREAT artstyle!
I am in no way criticizing you, but I feel like you should’ve kept megumi’s V-shaped bangs and kept her a little more gothic like including a small black choker, just a straight one with no complicated design like the original. All I’m getting based on the design is that you dont like gothic fashion, which is okay, but fr dude you took away all the gothic things besides giving her black nails and black tights. She looks cute! But you took away her personality tbh

Because it’s their design and they can do whatever they like. Not all Japanese people are paper white, many have darker skin and the fact that only 1 out of 89 students actually has darker skin is insane. The reason there’s a “double standard” is due to history. Historically, poc characters, especially darker characters, have been lightened to either look racially ambiguous or just straight up white. Darker skinned characters are often villainized and treated as lesser than simply because they’re darker. Yandere Simulator itself does this considering the only black character is a bully. It’s a case of equity vs equality.

Okay I'd understand your viewpoint if a character's cultural background was a big part of their personality and what makes them, them. But when their race is not a big part of their character, I absolutely do not see the harm in giving them some melanin. They didn't even fully change her from being Japanese to Black - they made her half and half. As for your argument that if a Black character was drawn with lighter skin it would receive a lot more backlash; that's because of white supremacy and its impact on society. As far as I can tell, when a Black character is redesigned with more fair skin, it implies that having lighter skin is "better" than having darker skin, whether that's intentional or not. I can understand why the double standard may confuse you, but it exists for a reason; it may be a good idea to look into the why and the how. I also recommend doing a bit of self reflection - genuinely ask yourself, "am I really concerned about potentially harmful double standards, or do I see fair-skinned characters as better/more appealing than characters with darker complexions?" Really dig deep into it and unpack any prejudices you may have (I'm still working on that myself). Because based on the things you've been saying on this thread, you can VERY easily fall into a racist mindset if you're not careful.
I personally think that most people make her plus sized is because it fits in well with her warm personality. It’s less “oh she’s in the baking club so we should make her plus sized” and more “she’s a warm character who enjoys making tasty food, being plus sized will play into that and make her seem softer”. It’s kind of like taking away brighter colours on shyer characters, it’s so you could look at a character and go “oh! she looks very kind” or “oh, she looks very shy” without even knowing who they are!
I love how much detail in thought there is behind these redesigns! They all look cleaner and better the than original! Also another thing if you take request could you look into maybe redesigning some of the omroi characters?
As a plus size gal who is in the middle of redisgning the yan sim rivals, I considered Amai having a thicker body because of her soft personality. Usually when drawing thicker bodies, you'd use rounder shapes. I feel that roundness sort of 'connects' with softness and warmth. Never did I correlate the fact that Amai is a baker so therefore shes plus sized 😭
I agree with your point about Amai. I think she looks cute that way and I understand why people would do it, I don't think it's inherently bad, however I also feel like people are missing the point by saying it's due to her "bubbly personality", when the infantilization of fat people is also something very common (i.e things like calling every fat character they see "friend-shaped" and making them out to be overly friendly and innocent, which you'd be surprised at how often happens.) So I don't really like that reasoning either... Not attacking anyone who said this, I understand it has to do with shape language too, but like they stated in the video, just think about why you're making a character chubby. If it's only their relation to food or their "friendliness", consider changing your mindset, because characters with different personality types can very well be fat too, and are often not given that body type.
Now, I did love your redesigns and I found them to be super cute, but I do think you could have gone a bit wilder. Like, Osana’s socks are…abysmal, but ya know, that tackiness goes kinda well with a game like Yan sim

As a plus sized person i personally dont take offense to artists making her plus sized. It is realistic that characters with food related hobbies or who dont excersize as much would sometimes have a bigger body type. However, i totally agree with what you said about artists ONLY making the baker plus sized. I think a lot of people dont quite understand that hobbies can affect a persons body type, but not always. Sometimes people who eat a ton and dont excersize are skinny, and sometimes people who diet and work out are fat, and i hope more artists come to understand that
yeah i 100% agree making her plus sized is cool but she shouldnt be "the token fat chick" so if someones gonna make her plus size it'd be nice to have other diverse body type with some of the other rivals as well, ykno?
Chefs and bakers aren't always fat so I think either can amkes sense especially if she is the type to make food to give away or because she loves seeing others enjoy it so doesn't eat too much of it if at all.

Curves and plus size body types are often associated with mothers and warmth. I think people design Amai as plus size because those associations fit her personality

hey so. as a character designer and big person myself, it's always read more to me as.... shape language? Triangles are associated with aggression, squares with stability, and circles with softness. She's sweet, compassionate, disarming.... hence, people who redesign her incorporate circles and rounder edges into her redesign. hell, I would probably do that when redesigning her.

If it happens a bit too much it can definitely fall into the “wow, this seems kinda mess up” lane, but I honestly have doubts thats why most people do it like that. It’s like you said, I honestly am not big on yandere simulator asI don’t know much about it, but when I first saw her design I thought she’d make a good character to be on the shorter, chubbier side! Not necessarily because of the food, but because she seems so bubbly and joyful, and it just kinda made sense to me. Rather than “A baker who’s plus sized” it’s simply “A plus sized baker.” [or maybe the other way around im kinda slow right now-]
Obviously it’s not something that needs to be there, but I think when it comes down to bubbly and happy things, the brain can tend to associate it with being squishy! And as an overweight teen, I can say I’m pretty squishy!

With the glove thing for Megami I like to think that she wears gloves to school because of the fact that she is aware of Ayano being there, so in case Ayano ever tries something like framing her with a boxcutter, she'd have her gloves on for no fingerprints :] otherwise she could always keep a handkerchief with her lol

The thing is, opera length gloves like Megami's are very unhygenic, hard to take on and off, and are made solely of materials that would smudge fingerprints. Wrist length white examiner's gloves would make a lot more sense on every level.

I remember series of redesigns and they never reached Megami because they weren't finalized and Megami is the last rival, or because the person didn't want to make all the rivals like what you did here, sometimes just Ayano and the first rivals to give the example.
I'm on the heavier side myself, and I do think Amai being plus sized is really cute! It makes her look super soft, which fits her vibe in my opinion. (I also like her kind of being... similar to the stuff she bakes? That's a personal preference when it comes to character design in general)
But I do agree that her being the only one people make bigger feels wrong. While it makes sense for her, not only are many people that bake or are into food in general NOT plus sized, but the opposite also applies. People can be fat and not be into food at all, and/or be super active!

This isn’t a criticism but when you wanted to make her darker skinned and immediately went to make her half black I feel like that was a miss opportunity to explore the darker skinned Asian ethnicities that are often forgotten/ignored. This is purely a suggestion for next time the design you made was wonderful!

On the topic of body type/body shape for baker characters, thinking about what they bake and how can lead to what they look like. Kneading bread and whisking things by hand is a freaking workout. If I baked as much as I assume Amai would my arms would be so freakin toned! (I hand whisk everything. I don't own a stand mixer and hate how the hand mixer sounds against my bowls. Whipping frost can be a pain.) And of course having arm strength/having visible muscle doesn't mean a person can't also be chubby.
yeah...you didn't have to do Rapunzel's hair to Osana... but the length of her hair is part of her story, she says that she lets it grow as part of a wish (to be with Senpai)
Besides that her yelling pose is because she's a Tsundere, the point is that she looks like a bully more than a critic
Maybe this shorter-haired Osana is her after she gets over pursuing Taro. She realizes she should choose her haircut based on what she wants for herself, not others. It could be a sign of growth. Also, cutting hair is a ritual for mourning in many parts of the world. As she gets over Taro and lets go of that dream, she mourns it, but moves on. Character growth and change could lend her more depth and get away from the demonizing of assertive women we see so much in media.

I love your re-designs! They're very grounded, diverse, and the posing has so much character! But I do think some of the traits in the originals, while unrealistic, add more interest to the design.
Your character designs are almost /too much/ like genuine highschool students.
Amai's apron would break up the simple outfit, and Osana's crazy long hair is great for her silhouette, iconic, and a hint for the player's extermination options.
Maybe Magami could even have long acrylic nails to show she doesn't like "getting her hands dirty", so to speak- emphasizing how much she relies on her intelligence.
But I really think you did an amazing job!
I remember having an unhealthy yandere sim obsession, i watched EVERY single KubzScouts video playing it, and i even tried to download it on an old computer... I gave the computer 2 viruses by accident I'm p sure💀

I believe that the art is nice and comprehensive; however, the different personalities of each character gets lost in favor of being realistic which makes the piece seem muted. While I agree the socks were a little out there, some other colorful items could have been added to give each girl some variance than wearing the same uniform with the only differences being the leg wear and small accessories. Other that that, I think the redesigns look cute.

Well I like the original sprites 🤷 but to call their designs ugly is too rude in relation to their preferences and to the artist.
there are many things that some people like but others don't like. elastic bands and polka dots, or black gloves and stockings.
they are unrealistic - this is the reason why they may seem strange to someone - because in real life people have never walked like this, and as they go in something, they are immediately muddied and morally suppressed
your style is different. it's not bad, but it's completely different styles and atmosphere.

Making Amai plus sized is totally fine, but if the reason is just because she is a baker, I find it a bit stereotypical. To give someone a certain body BASED off of what they do or like doesn't seem very realistic. Not all bakers or people that work in the kitchen are all gonna be chubby, not all people that do sports or work out are all gonna be skinny. I also agree that it is a bit strange that in Yandere Simulator redesigns, she's usually the only one that is made to be plus sized. It's okay to be any body type despite what your hobbies are. It's not JUST chefs or bakers that need to be plus sized.
I also want to clarify that some people make her plus sized because how nice, shy and kind she is. But I also find this stereotypical because not ALL plus sized or chubby people are gonna be nice. People can be written mean but have a chubby body, right? It goes for some skinny people to. Not all skinny people are going to be mean or bullies. Skinny people can be nice and shy too. Body types shouldn't be in categories based on how they act because that isn't realistic either.

As someone who’s plus sized, I take no offense to plus sized versions of Amai, and working in a bakery can indeed lead to gaining more weight (I should know, I worked in one and gained weight there). However you’re right about it being unfortunate that characters who work with food tend to be the fat ones, if there are fat ones at all. It feels like fat characters HAVE to be in a position like that, and that they HAVE to be one of the sweetest characters to be liked at all. If a tsundere was fat, she would be treated like a big fat bully and wouldn’t be considered “mean but cute about it” like tsunderes tend to be. Sporty characters “can’t” be fat because people missed the memo that skinny ≠ healthy and fat ≠ unhealthy. And don’t even get me started on characters that are supposedly fat, yet all they have are large chests, thighs, and backsides 🙄. Not to mention people can’t be normal about making fat characters and so most fat character’s arcs become about losing weight and turning out to be secretly hot all along, or otherwise trying to diet and failing and realizing they’re fine with the way they look. Skinny people are just people. Fat people are just people. It truly doesn’t have to “fit” with what club they’re in or their personality.
Fat, sweet baker is overdone, but it’s ultimately not that bad.
I don’t know if it’s just me but I feel like changing the skin color of a character from white to black is the same as changing a character from black to white just because “you said so”. I just can’t support the idea of changing a characters race or skin color if the creator made them a specific way.

I have no problem making Amai plus size, it ties to her warm motherly and caring personality. She's the mom friend who has EVERYTHING in her purse
Osana's hair is meant to reflect the anime character, Magical Miyuki (I think) and because Taro likes Miyuki, Osana purposefully grew it out. So, therefore, I still think her twintails should be long. No offense, everything else should be the same (ofc) it's just the hair.
I think also Megami wearing gloves is a good idea because since Megami suspects Ayano to be a murderer, she would wear gloves so it would be harder to frame her.
Honestly Amai's character has always felt bubbly, sweet, kind, and cute like a puppy. And I feel like a chubbier figure can usually show that (shape language hehe), that's why at least in my opinion I think Amai is given a chubby body. I feel like if she was a sewer she would still have that same chubby figure so.
edit: Also i love your Osana redesign, it feels like her personality shines through more. but THOSE WARMERS, I love warmers, but the red pulls your attention to the warmers, instead of her face or overall character. I feel like laces with beads in it, or an anklet might be better to not pull so much attention to it maybe? again I LOVE YOU REDESIGN, it's just the warmers.
I always hated making Amai plus sized personally because, as a sort of plus sized small woman, it felt offensive relating it all to sugary sweets, since my weight is from health issues. I always thought that making what's her face, the drama club leader rival, chubby was better because it beat the stereotype of all drama people being thin and scrangly nerds, and in my mind, her want for control would reflect in an eating disorder

i love your art!! i do have a few notes about osana’s redesign though,, namely her hair and stance. her hair has lore purposes i’m pretty sure (is there even proper lore tho lmao) and also DEFINES her silhouette!! i think keeping it long would’ve really elevated it. as for her stance, it looks strange in the original, but it represents her personality. the pose in the redesign makes her look more… bored? it INSTANTLY reminded me of your monika design (which i loved btwww) and they are *very* different characters personality wise. it just doesn’t read as osana to me and i wasn’t even properly in the fandom,, (all /npa though!! i still think the art looks fantastic, it’s just off for osana specifically!! sorry for the paragraph lol)

I think stereotypes are perfectly fine to use as long as it’s not what you think all those people in the community and or culture are like that and don’t use it negatively. Diversify with stereotypes and non stereotypes to really give recognition to all types of people.

As a plus-sized person, I... don't really care much about plus-sized redesigns? I mean I am all for giving plus-sized characters more to do than just 'does a thing with food'.
HOWEVER, being a bigger size does not mean that a character is ugly/undesireable. Yes, it's unhealthy to be overweight or obese, but I have seen so many characters that are thicc and very attractive and very well-designed that I stopped really caring about it. I don't really mind it much when a food-related character is on the heavier side, so long as their design is well-made and the fact they're 'plus-sized' is not used to imply the character is ugly or undesireable.
As another commenter said, in the place where I live more cheerful and happy/loyal characters are frequently depicted as being bigger in size- which actually goes for both genders!
I agree with your opininions but the whole reason the characters are in "goofy" poses is to illustrate their characters through the sillohuette which you said but then redesigned them with less dynamic poses.

The problem with the uniform is that Yan Sim takes place in a prestigious school so the students souldn't use a sailor uniform, if it was a normal school an exception could still be made, but that kind of school needs its own uniform not a sailor one that any other can have.
Pretty sure yandev put megami in gloves for the reason she is supposed to be the hardest rival and framing her would be pretty darn easy if she had no gloves ( I’m aware u could just have it were she doesn’t talk to the player or doesn’t offer help but yan dev is cheap and chooses easy way out of things lol )

I'm pretty sure the reason osanas hair is so long in the game is because she thinks Taro likes girls with long hair. She herself has said that her hair gets super annoying. But I do really love the new design you gave her!!

You have no idea how many channels I only found because of their redesigns + revamps of the yan sim characters (bcs imo their designs are kind of atrocious 💀).
Yet I subbed way before this video for the gorgeous art and amazing art skills and then this comes out haha. This is a great video im so glad you decided to make these redesigns! They are definitely my favourite so far tbh ☺️!

I refer to myself as chubby or fat. Honestly I do feel that Amai would be slightly chubbier as she is a baker she is constantly taste testing and other wise, I honestly like more that she is chubby. I feel hanako would be chubby to but yk. Otherwise no offense is taken to ppl drawing chubby Amai.

I agree with redesigns that only make the cook girl plus-sized. I imagine a lot of kids/teens don't even realize the connotations to doing that. I just like seeing a lot of different silhouettes and shape-language myself!

I'm plus sized and I have no problem with this; I think it suits her to be chubbier, because the round shape makes her more approachable and I give her more strenght instead of fat because she has to run around in the kitchen.
changing amai's race was just... :/ that isn't necessary, just let her be lightskinned japanese, man. the mint looked just as good with her actual skin tone

I feel like making Amai plus sized had more to do with shape design for some people. Plus sized characters are round, which makes them seem more friendly and approachable. It still leans into the fat baker girl stereotype, but I don't think that was the only reason so many Amai redesigns were plus sized.
I personally love seeing people make Amai plus-size. I think her OG design slightly alludes to a larger body type, but I do agree that people do need to take care and be aware of why they make certain characters plus size and not others. Especially when she's the only character that's plus size, and she just happens to be the one with relations to food. I myself have been guilty in the past of doing this subconsciously, but I always take time to be mindful of my decisions, and why I'm making them, and I find that helps me not be accidentally biased and offensive, even within my own community of plus-size individuals
These redesigns are so gorgeous! I love the uniforms too because I always thought the original ones in the game always looked a bit weird to me. Also, YOU have a GREAT artstyle!

I am in no way criticizing you, but I feel like you should’ve kept megumi’s V-shaped bangs and kept her a little more gothic like including a small black choker, just a straight one with no complicated design like the original. All I’m getting based on the design is that you dont like gothic fashion, which is okay, but fr dude you took away all the gothic things besides giving her black nails and black tights. She looks cute! But you took away her personality tbh

8:50, why did you make her skin darker? If you were changing her skin tone from dark to white you’ll have problem however it’s fine when you do otherwise and that’s weird really
Because it’s their design and they can do whatever they like. Not all Japanese people are paper white, many have darker skin and the fact that only 1 out of 89 students actually has darker skin is insane.
The reason there’s a “double standard” is due to history. Historically, poc characters, especially darker characters, have been lightened to either look racially ambiguous or just straight up white. Darker skinned characters are often villainized and treated as lesser than simply because they’re darker. Yandere Simulator itself does this considering the only black character is a bully. It’s a case of equity vs equality.
@@Cyberneticfrk she could just make her own rival oc, then it’ll be fine but changing race in both ways are very weird for me, yes changing black characters to white is very disrespectful as well as changing white (in this case asian) to black and people still argument about that…

Okay I'd understand your viewpoint if a character's cultural background was a big part of their personality and what makes them, them. But when their race is not a big part of their character, I absolutely do not see the harm in giving them some melanin. They didn't even fully change her from being Japanese to Black - they made her half and half.
As for your argument that if a Black character was drawn with lighter skin it would receive a lot more backlash; that's because of white supremacy and its impact on society. As far as I can tell, when a Black character is redesigned with more fair skin, it implies that having lighter skin is "better" than having darker skin, whether that's intentional or not. I can understand why the double standard may confuse you, but it exists for a reason; it may be a good idea to look into the why and the how. I also recommend doing a bit of self reflection - genuinely ask yourself, "am I really concerned about potentially harmful double standards, or do I see fair-skinned characters as better/more appealing than characters with darker complexions?" Really dig deep into it and unpack any prejudices you may have (I'm still working on that myself). Because based on the things you've been saying on this thread, you can VERY easily fall into a racist mindset if you're not careful.
I personally think that most people make her plus sized is because it fits in well with her warm personality. It’s less “oh she’s in the baking club so we should make her plus sized” and more “she’s a warm character who enjoys making tasty food, being plus sized will play into that and make her seem softer”. It’s kind of like taking away brighter colours on shyer characters, it’s so you could look at a character and go “oh! she looks very kind” or “oh, she looks very shy” without even knowing who they are!

As a plus size gal who is in the middle of redisgning the yan sim rivals, I considered Amai having a thicker body because of her soft personality. Usually when drawing thicker bodies, you'd use rounder shapes. I feel that roundness sort of 'connects' with softness and warmth. Never did I correlate the fact that Amai is a baker so therefore shes plus sized 😭
I agree with your point about Amai. I think she looks cute that way and I understand why people would do it, I don't think it's inherently bad, however I also feel like people are missing the point by saying it's due to her "bubbly personality", when the infantilization of fat people is also something very common (i.e things like calling every fat character they see "friend-shaped" and making them out to be overly friendly and innocent, which you'd be surprised at how often happens.) So I don't really like that reasoning either... Not attacking anyone who said this, I understand it has to do with shape language too, but like they stated in the video, just think about why you're making a character chubby. If it's only their relation to food or their "friendliness", consider changing your mindset, because characters with different personality types can very well be fat too, and are often not given that body type.
