    in this video we explore some of the abandoned and closed down places in Siem Reap after just after the spicy cough. It was quite interesting to see the sheer amount of places impacted by the lack of tourism.

      Hey Ed! It was unbelievable and yeah the sheer size of these places is amazing too! So much land going to waste. Have you been back to SR since moving? Wonder what your impressions would be like these days?
      Cheers mate!!

    1:13 didn't we go there for beers with our Canadian friend? Was a nice joint!

      I reckon we did Brian - Cant remember the name but remember the beer was rather pricey compared to our usual luxurious regular pricing.

      Yeah was pretty grim at that water park - would have been so vibrant when it was open. I wonder if it will ever open up again. As for the hotels - mate you will need to book a trip and head over yourself to find out! im sure you would enjoy Siem Reap!! Thanks for watching - hope you enjoyed the video!

      G'day Maddo! Haha mate I reckon they couldn't give away tickets for a show involving yours truly! Would be like the 6 people at the SCG in the 80s watching the Swans play!
      It certainly felt odd seeing so many places impacted by the lack of tourists but folks have been saying its been getting better every day! Slowly but surely it will get its groove back!
      Cheers mate and hope you are going ok!

      Hey Andy - That is exactly what we want to hear! Looks like the place is recovering slowly but surely - Exactly what the locals need!
      Do you visit Cambodia regularly? How did you find it in 11/22? Cheers for watching and the comment mate!

      @@MarcsMildlyInteresting no it was our first time. We found it really easy & in fact going to places when it's a bit quieter like Angkor Nat Park was fabulous. From all the people we spoke to, things have been super tough but Cambodians are so practical & clever. We ended up staying in Siem Reap for a week as we're from Hobart & not totally big city people anyways. And have nothing against doing touristy stuff because we're tourists hey. We'll be back :)

    This would be a urban exploeres dream. it is a shame these hotels have shut. I hope they reopen.... or let the less fortunate just live there. First in best dressed I say.

      Hey Chandy - Absolutely, I reckon a proper urban explorer would have made this more interesting haha! Sounds like the place is getting a lot better and in 2023 the 'vibe' has returned. Plenty of street food waiting for you to crack in to as well i hear once you have finished your other trips ;) Cheers mate hope you are having a blast in JP!

    Whats with all the abandoned buildings?

    • @MarcsMildlyInteresting
      @MarcsMildlyInteresting  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      G'day mate! I think the massive drop in volume of tourists in Siem Reap over the C19 period had a pretty big impact on businesses that were once thriving in town. A lot of hotels, restaurants and other places that catered for tourists just had to shut up shop. Back in May 2022 there were still a few scars of this around and I am hoping as more people visit, the town starts to thrive again. Cheers!

    I think it’ll take 5 to 10 years before it gets any better sadly. The people have no jobs or income

      I agree mate - Hopefully over time and with the new Airport people will slowly get back to Siem Reap. A lot of the townsfolk rely on tourism so I hope they can stick it out until people flood back. Do you visit Cambodia/Siem reap often? Thanks for watching and the comments mate!
