A while back I bought 50 dateless buffalo nickels on Ebay for less than $15. I did find many 1916-1919 dates and a 1913 Type 2 reverse. The 1918 D / 7 error is sought after as well.
Did that a lot when I was a kid ( long ago , nicadate is nothing new ) but then I didn't like the look of the coin. I even tried to do the whole surfaces of the coins a few times but they came out all streaked.
Nic-a-silver......idk if any old bottles out there think it used a mixture with ammonia...its existed before so maybe you can find a formula or something to try recreating it
I got a B-Nickel from my great-grandfather as an inheritance. It's not a no-date but it's so worn I thought it was a 1915 for forever. Recently, I got a 30x electronic microscope and found it's actually a 1916. But, I also figured out it's an S-mint. Helpful video for the other nickels I got.
Thanks for this video, I was thinking about doing this for a hand full of Buffalo nickels I have without dates and two are type to 1. Now I'll give it a try. Nnthank you
4:57 Yep, looks like a 1913 Buffalo to me. 6:33 It is a 1916. 9:23 Maybe it’s a 1925. 11:48 I think that’s a 1914. That’s cool! You should do more Nic-a-date videos!
10:54 "One, two, better not sue!" is a reference to The Simpsons It's what Homer says when he tries out his chiropracting device for the first time (made from a garbage can)
It doesn't seem like there is much to be lost in damaging a coin that's already so far gone. I have a painful story I'll eventually get into sharing on the discord about digging at a coin with a metal fork just so I could identify it. Did I wreck it pretty bad? yup. Did I identify it? Indeed I did! Do I regret it? Not particularly... it really wasn't much more collectible before than it is now.
I’m new to coin collecting. I was wondering why not do nic-a-date on the whole coin to get more detail on the whole coin? Can you resale these coins after to make money? Thanks in advance!!!
Looks like magic to me, if you need to add an acid to see when they are minted, this is not good for the metal. I collect only Unc and XF, so without a date a coin is not interresting. I like the details.
Any thoughts on goldbacks and the karat bills(not sure of the actual name of those)? I would like to see a video of your thoughts on them, the collector aspect there, and the actual idea of the movement to basically try to hedge against inflation better than the standard US dollar.
I make my own nickel solution to try this but I have a hard time finding bulk dateless nickels, any advice? I did it with the handful I had and pulled 2 dates of like $20 coins, my solution is nice though because it doesnt really make the metal look that whitish color
Yes that was a 1913 for sure, but when you said 1915 then put the coin in camera and I wondered why you said 1915 when it was most definitely 1913 might of been the trick of the eye,it happens quite often.
Only nic-a-date the ones with mintmarks on them (the varieties are incredibly hard to find) Really the only one you should be going after is the 1913s type 2. The nic-a-dated ones sell for $100. The 1913d type 2 and other dates are not worth it as they sell for below $10.
Putting way too much I use a small paint brush just a bit on the date area Same on reverse I cover the whole word ( five cents ) so it looks better Stay in the lines !
Personally I would never use acid on a coin but that's just my personal preference. Though when you go to sell them make sure the person buying knows that you acid etched it it's only fair.
If these coins are not so valuable, I will love to see you melting them rather than just revealing their dates. LOL! It would be a more interesting video to see how much pure silver you will get. People are more curious watching those kinds of videos (including me).
Always look for ways to get amazing coins at low prices, like with using Nic-a-date. Make collecting like a treasure hunt and it will always be exciting
The hunt for me is what makes the excitement stay fresh. After years of collecting, a roll of unsearched coins is so full of possibilities it’s wonderful. It’s especially fantastic when you got a roll of stuff you got from a bank or that you picked up at a yard sale or an auction for cheap and you find a cool variety or error or great coin to fill an album spot. One of the greatest feelings.
With my other coins I'm looking good think of my Rutherford B Hays Gold Coin Others My liberty Coin John Adams Others.Queen Elisabeth One pound Gold The other Smaller Queen Elisabeth May be two pounds Old .other coins.
Yes buffalo Nickels not worth much Mine has no date All shows good Just no date Mine show liberty Shows Five cents Good Face Good Buffalo just no date.
💩 poops I forgot I was a kid and a couple hours ago so I just left and I had two errands done before and was just sitting there waiting until you picked good stuff out right now and you.

Good demonstration on Nic-a-date. Congrats on the semi-key date find. Keep the awesome videos coming.
Thanks a lot!

Definitely 1913! Nice find!!!!

Another fun and informative video! Thanks for sharing Silverpicker!
So glad you enjoyed it!!
I’m a big fan of the dateless nickel. Great video.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed!
Cool video thanks bro
My pleasure!!
Yes that first one was a 1913. I have done about 5 or 6 videos with Nic-a-Date and Buffalo nickels. It is always fun. Keep Hunting and Stay Safe.
Awesome! I will definitely do more and will hopefully get better at the process too
Great video.
Thanks T Zimm!!
I wish someone will invent an acid like this for silver
I'm pretty sure Buffalo nickels are silver
@@frogacademy4068 they’re not. They’re made out of nickel and copper.
Nic-a-silver......idk if any old bottles out there think it used a mixture with ammonia...its existed before so maybe you can find a formula or something to try recreating it
They said they never really worked amazing though as silver is a softer metal so easier to wear away without the pressure copper-nickel makes
@@neggispringfeild more like Silv-a-date

Go for it! Let me know what you find :)

Woohoo! Thanks!
I've done a lot with this and I have all the early dates p d s but are they worth anything
Heck yeah. Love those
Thanks Matthew!
I haven’t been able to find nickadate anywhere... where did you find it??

Wow cool finds I’ve done this a couple times all from the teens. No 1913s though. Although I do have a 1913s type 2 Buffalo.
I did it once with a home made acid and almost all mine were teens and with mint marks
Nice some of mine were mint marks not a lot of S mint marks though only D.
Any thoughts on goldbacks and the karat bills(not sure of the actual name of those)? I would like to see a video of your thoughts on them, the collector aspect there, and the actual idea of the movement to basically try to hedge against inflation better than the standard US dollar.
I made a whole video on them! th-cam.com/video/OVMeLfoch1M/w-d-xo.html
The second batch- the ones you redid. It looks like 1914 before you found the one you said dirty 🐕

I also want to find a bunch of no date shield nickels
That's so cool! You should make a video about how you make it
great job
Thank you!!
I have 3 of these, but they all have dates on them!
Nice! What dates do you have?
One doesn't have a date and one has 1936 and one has 1937!
I also have a 1903 nickel with a lady and stars on it and a 1935 quarter! :-)
Yes that was a 1913 for sure, but when you said 1915 then put the coin in camera and I wondered why you said 1915 when it was most definitely 1913 might of been the trick of the eye,it happens quite often.

I don't need to melt them to find out how much silver I'd get...zero! There is no silver in buffalo nickels
Man , this can't be good on your fingers .
1 2 better not sue pretty sure its from an episode of the Simpsons where homer invents a at chiropractor business
YESSSSSSSS! So stoked you knew it was from the Simpsons
why do you use God'sname in vane picker ????? oh my gosh would surfice
I don't think I said God's name in vain 🤷♂️
Buy rolls of NO Date Buffalos. See if you get any good stuff man!
I think I will!
Hard to be perfect but little bit sloppy in the application, gotta try and keep it just in the date area.
Yep, definitely gonna work on that for next time
The one you could not see is a 1914!??
Yep!
Doesn't using Nic-a-Date, devalue the coin?
I knew this one kid a good meny years ago that used to just throw his date less buffalo nickels in the garbage
