21:45 its not a six sided die issue. It's an issue of having fixed stats. If we look at old world then we can see, if two custodes came and attacked eachother they'd be hitting one another on 4s, but against a guardsman they'd be hitting the guardsman on 2s and he them on 5s.
Hitting on 2s in shootings is a problem in 40k because they've decided there should only be 5 tiers of stats. 6+, 5+, 4+, 3+ and 2+. Yet Old World allows for hitting on 7s, and on better than 2s without achieve a 100% hit rate. 40k is limited by a desire to not have people learn more core rules and instead put the difficulty in copious amonts of army bloat.
So bobby G and the Lion can open doors, but they can't ride in landraiders? One of the only audiobooks I've listened to has Roboutte in his own personal landraider for about a 1/4 of the story.

Getting stuff onto objectives or in place to score secondaries is really important and remaining stationary is usually how you fail at that. Additionally, I've found the best games I've played have had a solid amount of terrain that blocks line of sight so if you remain stationary you also have to rely on your opponent putting stuff where you can see it. I've been saying it since 8ed was previewed- ditch the current Mortal Wound rules.
They should be ignore FNP, not invulnerables- most of which in Lore literally describe themselves as existing to defend against the sort of attacks MWs come from.
This would then fit back ground, as the wound is actually mortal- but has to make it through the ability of an Assassin to simply not be hit by it, or the ability of a Storm Shield (or even void field) to stop it dead.

You did miss something on ruin visibility; overhang no longer counts for things with bases. Harridan can hide behind ruins. Bloodthirsters too. Vehicles and walkers without bases still use the whole model, but knights and stuff are walkers with bases and can hide as well. It's... quite a lot. You just use the base for visibility too and from now.

@@DM-ICE It's in the rules commentary update, and there is a LOT of stuff in there that's super important as well, let me post you the full text:
": The diagrams below illustrate how visibility
can be affected when units are within, wholly within or behind Ruins.
For Vehicles (excluding Walker models that have a base) or models
without bases, every part of the model and its base (if it has one) is
used for determining if it is not within, within or wholly within a Ruin.
For all other models, the model’s base is used to determine if it is not
within, within or wholly within a Ruin. If that model overhangs its
base, visibility to and from that model is determined only by its base."

I think the intention behind the new movement/pivot rules is a nice idea because technically if you moved 8" and then turned your dreadnought to face the thing it was going to shoot, the front of it's base moved more than 8" and changed its LOS profile. Never had anyone actually bother me about it but it is against RAW. The real problem with the pivot rule is going to be things like Drukhari Ravagers deep striking 9" away and then pivoting and only needing like a 6" charge.

    • @thepastrychef8014
      @thepastrychef8014 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Facings mattered and were defined, most vehicles were slower, and would at least lose accuracy in the majority of their weapons when moving, so it was a trade off. Now there's zero downside to doing so, and you can pivot an unlimited number of times during a move now, allowing you to make some pretty outlandish movements, and in some unscrupulous cases gain movement or LoS when it wouldn't have been possible before. James' point is very on point - those rules were removed to make the game more accessible, and to reduce complexity. If facings were too much, geometric pivoting is too 😅

It's pretty much a wash in terms of points. I think somethings are perhaps slightly overcosted (the Patriarch, Primus), but it's not the end of the world in the grand scheme of things. I have other issues with the Codex though 😂

Thank you! You’re right that stuff seems impenetrable for new players.

i still think gauss weapons and bolters need a buff. also the necron overlord needs some kind of +4 to hit monsters and vehicles because their ancient superweapons are seriously low on strength. Maybe a protocol for that and an anti infantry protocol to swap between

Overlords have a default S8 weapon with ap-3 they can get a melee lascannon at 3 damage.
      Both with dev wounds.
For their cost they are already insanely durable.

I hope that the move through terrain for titanic super heavy walkers gets farmed out to all factions not just the knights. And if GW feels daring, just let all titanic units be able to move through terrain like knights.
