Funny enough, my biggest issue with Chaos Knights wasn't even mentioned:
Besides the Abominant and War Dogs, you do not have _any_ actual kits. For all of your big knights, you have to use google-fu to figure out what the Imperial Knight equivalent is and then give it spikes and sometimes a different gun.

Ok Brad on the Deathguard point... historically Nurgle has been the durability faction since the before times. Mark of nurgle was a +1 Toughness when that actually mattered more because strength was more limited. The book of nurgle in 3e was full of durability options and a handful of "rot" options where they did special damage out of squence. For those who want to understand the Flayed Ones in Necrons: the building is the worst, but for price, $50 for 5 when they came out, and there may be more plastic in the sprue than the models. Then they went UP in price.
As for building, look at their hands. Not their fingers, their hands. That tiny little thing where their knuckles and their palms are.
On the easier models, you only have to glue TWO pieces together there. Usually it's THREE: the arm and thumb, two fingers and the back of the hand, and the final two fingers and the edge of their palm. God help you if you're not using brush on plastic glue.

    • @priestking8636

      @Chocolate83Bunny 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I didn't have much more problem with the flayed ones than the rest of the army. The one model with skin on the spine spikes did get fucked up, just literally couldn't figure out how to get it aligned to be normal looking. The claws were essentially the same as wraiths but those have two. Luckily I have relatively tiny hands. But for those not so lucky, it is essentially gluing the ends of toothpicks together. I really don't like gluing wrists and cables on the necron models. The cables on the back of immortals /assassins kit for their Big Guns that attach to their spines, I totally fucked up one of them, not even remotely close to connecting. There are a lot of parts that seem like you can snap on interchangeable because they are the same part, but end up not being so, and then are like impossible to take back off because they snap fit.

Granted, I've been collecting Greenskins since '03 and the only models I don't have were the ones exclusive to Forge world (I had 6 of the cool Black Reach Deffkoptas long before the new koptas were released), so I'm a bit spoiled for choice when it comes to building an army list.

Tyranids should NOT be given a character. The unknown is their character, as cliche as that might sound for some. If you know your enemy, your enemy is diminished for it. The closest thing we should get are other factions trying to ascertain how the tyranids think, and presumably failing.

I used to say the same thing about Necrons. While I do miss their old identity of being spooky scary skeletons in space, it did get boring after a while. That kind of lore loses it's impact after the fanbase becomes too familiar with it, so I'm actually a fan of how they revamped the Necron faction identity and lore in 5th edition (disagreements with some parts of the fluff like Blood Angels and Necrons being BFFs aside). I think Tyranids could benefit from a similar treatment; the problem I have with Tyranid lore is that there is zero lore from the Tyranid point of view outside of a short blurb they got back in 2001 in a White Dwarf article which explained why each faction would get involved in the Eye of Terror campaign IRRC. I thought it was the coolest shit ever and begged by parents to buy me some Tyranid models after reading that.
Tyranids would benefit from some additional characterization 100%. They can still be an incomprehensible horror from beyond the stars while also establishing some lore and history from their own perspective. I'm getting bored of reading about Tyranid lore exclusively from the perspective of whoever they're fighting at the time. Shadowbrink was a pretty good example of something close to a Tyranid perspective.

The reason their corruption to Nurgle upsets them so much is because they found something they couldn't endure and were so weak that they let the disease take them rather than resist it.

One of the weird things Ork players don't talk about enough is the pressure given from other players to have a completely kit bashed and unique army. I've been playing orks for about six years and they have been my absolute favorite thing about 40k. Every time I go to an event, whether it be narrative or competitive, I always have people comment on how few kit bashes I have in a ork army and how "cool ____ would be in a army. It would be simple and cool to do, right?". It's also very meme based and you will hear the same 3 jokes hundreds of times. If you care about the lore of orks and want to discuss different aspects of kultur or how their story is evolving, because it is an exciting and new time for the greenskins, if you're talking to the wrong person the conversation will devolve to one of those basic three jokes. Love the army, more people should play it.

I mean, part the fun of being an Ork player is you can legitimately kitbash a soup-can together with some plasticard, plastic tubing and GW sprue bits to make a Gorkanaut/Morkanaut/Deff Dread and have it be 'table legal' because _it's Orks._
Granted, an old narrative Freeboota like meme from the ancient days can understand where you're coming from as well. Kitbashing is time-consuming as hell, and sometimes you look at other Ork's kitbashes (especially the Looted models) and feel you didn't do a good job on your own kitbash. There is an argument not to enter that race and just go with the basic stuff.
As for the lore/story progression of the Orks... we don't get that much as a faction. Probably a good thing too because the last major 'faction progression' had the Orks lose the Octarius war to the overgrown bugs instead of squishing them good an' proppa. Having a mostly static lore (that hilariously was never really rebooted from the old Rogue Trader days. Majority of the lore for Orks from when "WAAAGH!!" was 'WAAARGH!!" is still considered canon, including Gork and Mork being OP as hell).
I'll grant the lore stagnation might cause Ork players to lean into the memes a bit too much, but in my personal experience as an Ork player talking with other players about Ork lore is always entertaining.

@JanitorScruffy one box is around 45, so about $115 total, but you're not far off the mark. It's still a great deal. There's a couple of potential issues though.
1, you're kind of stuck with what comes in the box. One of these sets has both Lascannons and Autocannons, so that's great for meta. Your Bolters and Missile Launchers are in another box, and Chaincannons are in the special weapons box. Like I said, that's fine for this editions meta so far but when the codex drops I'm sure it'll be different.
2, these were made to be compatible with the older Mk 3/4 kits. I don't know how they scale with the newer Mk 6/3 kits. It might not be a problem, or it might require significant modeling.

Custodes are my favorite army and it's actually very difficult for me to find opponents who have a good time playing against them. Death Guard's thing was resilience even before the Emperor found Mortarion. Mortarion and the members of his legion became hardy after spending their lives in the poisonous air of Barbarus. Pre-Heresy they were attrition fighters. In the Buried Dagger, they were able to survive more of Nurgle's diseases because of how resilient they were.
I'm alright with them making them more disease-focused in game, but in the lore they have always been THE durable SM legion.

There’s nothing as painful as being a World Eaters player and not having unique stuff on launch. One of the most infuriating things was the mention of Berzerker Surgeons (presumably some sort of Apothecary equivalent). It was a thing they brought up multiple times in both the 9th Ed codex and the preview articles, and then they just went “eat shit and die” when our army launched. It’s honestly even more tragic considering that the army is actually pretty good, we just have 0 variety.

Some people use plastic glue instead of super glue etc. I have thin fingers and found pretty much any necron model spindly and a bitch to assemble so it wasn't noticeably different. One downside of super glue I have for spindly bits is sometimes gravity will make it fall apart, so I have to have it dry with them laying down on its side so that it stays together.

@@delilahfox3427tbf just having unique rules support for the craft worlds is good enough. 9th was good at this - uthawe gets special stuff with their guardians and extra special psychic stuff. CSM in 3rd edition was one of the best books without split codexes because it just had good flavorful support for each of the legions.
World eaters, tson, DG and EC all got like 4 pages to themselves... undivided got 2 pages for each legion specific rules. Everything else was just generic units. Thats how it should be - rules thats shake up advantages and selection for units everyone. A great example was death guard couldnt get bikers or rapters. Their fast attack options were transports for dudes on foot.
IWs could lose an elite or fast attack choice for an additional heavy support option and got access to the IG basilisk platform meaning IW theorectically had the most indirect fire in the game between that and the defiler (surprisingly relevent at the time!).

It does not have to be 100% GW plastic either, but I'd recommend yoinking a Scout Sentinel cockpit for the stompa's head and then orking it up a bit with chopped up sprues to make it look. Only think you'd need to come up with is the feet/feet replacement... maybe use sprue bits around the edge of the bucket and say the Stompa has a looted Repulsor tank's anti-grav unit installed somewhere? You wouldn't be winning any Golden Demon awards, but it'd be a playable model at the local GW stores I've been to.

So you have the same nid but each time they are recycled by the hive you experience what they used to be; A human, a bush, an ancient bone, a lost xenos that way you can create pathways of the swarm as a cohesive story the same way that infinite and the divine plays with time passing by

Brad and Eric - rewatching the video I thought I'd drop a bit more oldhammer knowledge on you regarding some of the other factions.
Chaos Daemons Khorne with regards to them feeling more squishy and finessey. Back in the day all khorne daemons were unique in that they were all equipped with "the brass armour of khorne" even the hounds which had collars. This provided them a 3+ armor save which was sort of their gimmick to make up for not having psychic and what not.
Tsons used to be unique in being one of the only multiwound troop models (this was in 3e before they settled on the invul save default for them change in 5e). Their seargant equivalents also could purchase additional minor psychic powers and tzeetch models were unique in that they ALWAYS autopassed psychic tests.
A neat mechanic with greater daemons is that they could NOT start on the board. You would note an aspiring champion (seargent) or HQ and they would serve as a host for the greater daemon (i believe the daemons strength stat also replaced their own but dont quote me on that) but the greater daemon spawned upon that models death or you could just have them burst out of their head early.
Likewise daemon princes weren't a default model. You upgraded your Chaos Lord / Sorceror into one bt spending at least 50 points on "daemonic gifts" in the armoury. Also every single chaos legion only had 2 pages of lore aside from the chaos gods specifc legions which got 4. I highly recommend grabbing a totally legal pdf of csm 3rd edition and thumbing through some of the mechanics. They were super cool! Check out the eye of terror campaign book too!

Votaan and World Eaters are like reverse Harlequinns:
Harlies are losing their lone faction status due to lack of models, the former two are factions that lack “a faction’s worth of units” - it’s a classic case of GW marketing: buy a whole army of beserkers then get given 5 more units another edition so you have to sell the excess of beserks you have. Whilst, this whole time, GW could have just said “here look, chaos bikers and raptors: convert them to Khorne”
