You know what this issue is? This new generation of young people who don’t want to work hard because they are overworked and underpaid in major cities. Why try hard if you can barely afford to live!
They are going to claim a “minor” overlook in “cleaning” versus admitting their engineering was wrong. Watch the fix be using a completely redesigned part.
A redesigned part would prove and engineering error. The SAME PART would prove manufacturing error. So far all repairs have been the same "shortblock assembly" hinting at lazy machiners not cleaning out their shavings properly... time will tell ❤️
I think its just metal shavings...the block is put into a bath after machining using robots for a short period of time on an assembly line...this may be where the S up took place.
And there were Toyota/Lexus techs on forums a few years ago saying the LS500 engines were seizing. They only sold about 20,000 before the Tundra was released. Obviously the ones you see on the road don't have problems at the moment. The GX550 is made in Japan. I'm betting they don't have any issues. I can't find a recall on the LC300 3.44 twin turbo...
The US govt mandates recalls only if they're "saftey related"... so a coolant leak from chemical gaskets post 100k won't be recalled... Lexus may have fixed ot internally by using a different kind of FIPG... but that's just speculation
Even my 2013 had valley plate coolant leak and timing cover leaks. I traded it after having to these expensive fixes. The Gx460 is not as bulletproof as people claimed to be.
@@keithk007 if Lexus never fixed the valley plate leak which I believe is relatively simple fix after all these years that is a shame for Lexus preaching a quality and Luxury brand. Sure that Toyota will fix it, BUT... how many will keep their's 22,23 and 24 past manufacturing warranty? Right now Tundra is already heavily depreciated on a second hand market .
crazy that this is basically a lottery if you get one that is fine or one that might have issues, and something in between that shows issues over time. yikes this is gonna help resale value on v8 based toyotas and lexus a lot.

Similar with the 4.6 and the valve spring recall.A reliable engine that was flawed in the beginning. But toyota still needs to recall that engine because of valley plate leaking
They'll pinpoint the issues, solve the problems and it'll be fine. What annoys me about the new engine is that if offers very little advantage as far as fuel economy, as far as I can tell. I'd really like to pick up a 550 later this year, but it annoys me that it won't provide much better fuel economy than my 2001 Yukon with a 5.3.
Toyota/Lexus apparently is ONLY going to replace part of the engine called a short block meaning they are going to reuse the top of the engine; valves, cam shafts, etc. This is a huge mistake as metal shavings are contaminating the oil which is distributed throughout the entire engine including the cam shafts, etc.
IMHO, there are only two remedies that Toyota can do: (1) replace the entire engine or (2) inspect and verify the affected engines don't have debris, and the offer LIFETIME powertrain warranties on the those engines. Anything else is not acceptable. Can you imagine how hard it will be for the affected owners to sell or trade-in their vehicles in the future?
😂😂😂😂 Who saw that coming? Twin turbos and hybrid systems. What could go wrong? 🤣🤣 I guess common sense really isn't so common. You guys go buy your twin turbos and have fun when they are failing in 5 years.
If they made the engine 10 years ago. They had 10 yrs to get it right. They don't make money off an engine that can do 1 million miles. They made the v8 too good
Toyota's business model has always been providing customers with million mile engines... that's exactly hiw they make money and keep customers from going over to domestic brands 😉
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD it's true but manufacturers are building cars that last 5 years. I think Toyota has been unconsciously trying to do the same. The metal shavings is a bigger issue because it has to do with them overlooking something. If it's a valve or a bearing issue then that had to do with an engineering and design issue. Those things can't be avoided when releasing a new platform. Metal shavings in two different factories in different countries is a manufacturering reflects how the factories manage their workers. Or some new machinary proceeded to save cost. Toyota did praise tesla for their clever methods to save cost and be more efficient, maybe that had something to do with it?
824 total engine warranty claims out of 308,000 tundras sold. They started changing the machining process in jan of 23. I read the Toyota investigation report. I made a video on how to find the report.
Oh No! Toyota is done! The sky is falling! On a more serious note, they state a "machine debris" as the possible culprit. This is a manufacturing process problem, and not a design flaw that cause the issues. Easy to fix. Thanks for the video, you are the coolest.
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROADit’s hard for me to believe they would not be cleaned after machinery process. Seems like there is other issues Toyota is not saying. We will see about the remedy
Toyota are well known to make mistakes and are transparent about there errors , whereas other car manufacturers will not be as transparent. Yes for any car manufacturer in todays era will be challenging to keep up with the technology that is now becoming a modern stable and requirement of today cars. Personally I will always love old and vintage cars
How long do you think it will take for you to get you truck fixed and if it will be put together back the right way, any damages in the process or would you get an entire crate engine or just a short block? Oh boy, I won’t touch one until I make sure the issue is completely solved and that might be in 2025.
Toyota and Lexus will give you a new short-block, according to anecdotes Lexus will then give you a TX as a loaner (nooice!) and Toyota will give you a Grand Highlander as a loaner "with compensation".. the compensation part is just anecdotal... someone claimed that on this channel in the comments
They don’t know that they have issues yet. Maybe these engines went through a certain line. I’m sure there’s probably a machine that cleans the blocks, etc after machining, which might be the issue. You shouldn’t say that the design isn’t good because of a contamination problem.
Nope. This issue has been found in engines built both in USA (Tundra) & in Japan (LX). Highly unlikely it was just a contamination problem since it’s impacted more than one factory
YES you should be worried, Hyundai recognized the same problem in their engines manufactured in on plant. They issued Lifetime Warranties for those engines. GREAT right???? NO, because then there was a class action lawsuit and Hyundai settled the lawsuit by changing their stated Lifetime warranty to just 150k miles. Of course my blew up right at 169k 3 months after the lawsuit settled.
Hyundai took the cheap way out an as a company are notorious for doing everything in their power to deny warranty claims for one bogus reason or another. In this case, Toyota is actually replacing the entire engine on all affected vehicles to the tune of over $1B. There’s a huge difference between how Hyundai dealt with their issue and how Toyota is dealing with this.
This latest recall is a major problem with crankshaft main bearing failure. If there is metal shaving in motor cam bearing cylinder walls could all be affected. Unless toyota gives you a new upgraded longblock, rebuilding with a short block could cause future failure!! The 2010 was a valve spring defect from supplier! Easier fix!!
I have a 24 Tundra. Not covered under the recall. I wonder if they really fixed the manufacturing issue or they are just trying to keep the recall as tight as possible.
Will they say now that 2024 are also included when you know that many 24’s are? They need to be sold yet don’t you think. I don’t doubt they will include them as soon as they are all sold.
Go buy a V8 Nissan Titan and you won't have to worry about that mess of an engine in the Toyota Tundra. I promise you, you won't be getting 200k out of that twin turbo platform problem free.
I guess as worried as prudence would dictate. Can’t do anything about it now without a large financial loss but you worry that you will get the same failure many miles down the road and it won’t be covered under warranty.
I’m a Toyota tech and I’ve only seen failed tundra engines no sequoia or higher trim model tundras like the TRD pro or 1794 I’ve done 6 short blocks, we’ve had a total of 14 tundras and they damage looked the same in all of them front main bearing came out of the main cap and rubbed on the oil pump which is part of the rear timing cover causing metal debris to go through the entire engine. Looks like the recall might be a entire engine replacement complete long block minus the engine harness
"machining debris" that went unnoticed for years. The fix for this would need to be engine replacement since the damage would already be done vs replacing a valve spring. Some owners have had replacement shortblocks but "debris" in the engine could have made it to the turbos since the oil is shared...
What is fruaterating is for this Tundra, it's basically dont buy the first 4 or 5 years of the redesign. Much worse than just not buying the first year of a new model/redesign as has been traditional advice to follow.
Having owned an older Tundra I know from personal experience that getting something fixed is not that easy especially if you cannot take the truck to the selling dealer. In my case I'd moved and the dealers didn't want to touch it. KPT's excuse was they needed the parts for the trucks they'd sold so they couldn't fix mine. I went back to Chevy.
The engine should be recalled for having an under whelming HP ratings. A 3 cylinder turbo cranks out 300 hp, the legendary3.5 v6 gets 301/302 hp, and yet these new v6 turbo only makes 349HP? What gives? 😜😜😜
I really like this approach because it is fair and balanced. However what concerns me is that you mentioned they have been in market for 7 years but they are having problems now? Seems to be a contradiction.
When they have to tear apart your new truck to fix it then that’s a problem. Personally I wouldn’t want that truck back because it will never be the same
Lol- did you see how they have to take half the truck apart to get out the engines? So I guess you trust the dealer to put your truck back together like new.... not me. th-cam.com/video/1IuWKVTzxEc/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Jrdagreat

A million mile machine, maintained, worry free! ♥️🔥🌵
Purchased my ‘24 Toyota 4Runner TRD OFF-ROAD PREMIUM in the Underground Color back in December and very pleased. This is my second 4Runner and they are well built tanks💪🏼
Like you, exactly why I bought a 2023 Tacoma vs. taking a chance on a completely redesigned 2024 with turbo 4 cylinder.
I gave my son my 2011 4Runner. He's had it all through college back and forth. My 2019 with 77,000 going strong
Smart. Toyota is now living on their name.
Wish GMC would do a recall on all disel vehicles. Chevrolet trucks have so many issues. I have been to the dealership 6 times in the past 4 months due to issues.
My early 2000 Tundra had few recalls almost 25 years and 300,000 miles ago.
My son is taking it to college in the fall.
I can't wait to hear what they cook up for a remediation for this problem.
per Toyota's official word the machiners forgot to clear their shavings out the engine properly, so the official explanation is assebembler error. Hopefully better employees and QA will be the remedy 🙏
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD I'm more interested in what they will offer for remediation for the already produced units.
Flush and new bearings in the lower end? New Short Block? New Long Block? What about the Turbo's? Do these trucks have oil coolers?

@@johnrolf4952the remediation is they are going to fix it
The only acceptable remedy is a completely new engine. It is impossible to know how far any of that loose debris got into the engine.
At least you can trust Toyota will make it right. Had a ford burning three quarts of oil between changes and they said that’s normal consumption and refused to warranty it.
There will be great lease deals coming. Thank you Toyota for the free money.

Toyota will make it right but how do you know the mechanics isn't going to fuck up your truck. You can't even trust car manufacturers to deliver a brand new truck or car with full oil these days. Just keep your finger cross that you get a very good mechanic.
Blinded by the light!!!
Just don’t buy a new car for the next 20 years. This kind of problem is to blame our government regulations. Environment protection my ass.
I wonder which factory had this assembly line cleaning issue?
I do not believe, shavings story...
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROADsome owners are onto engine number two and three so don't think so this is Toyota saving face

Things might be on track. Maybe.
I sure hope so. I wonder what took them so long to figure this out?
And there were Toyota/Lexus techs on forums a few years ago saying the LS500 engines were seizing. They only sold about 20,000 before the Tundra was released. Obviously the ones you see on the road don't have problems at the moment. The GX550 is made in Japan. I'm betting they don't have any issues. I can't find a recall on the LC300 3.44 twin turbo...
The LX is made in Japan and is included in the recalls..? Remember, the LX is a Land Cruiser.
For GX 460 did they ever fix the valley plate coolant leak issue for the late 2020+ units or was the part of the 2010 recall
From what I reading must valley plate issue around 100k. At what mileage did you need if fix? did you do both together? How much did it cost? I know it's not cheap.
See? This proves that if we all worry about something hard enough, it can come true. 😄 I bet they'll get to root cause and fix it.
We are suppose to take delivery of our GX 550 in July. Should we cancel the order?
That will be a personal choice you'll have to make unfortunately 😢 🙏 ❤️
Cancel your order ASAP. My brother bought a 2023 Tundra and regretted and he was very happy he sold a months ago.
I wanted to get the new landcruiser or LexusGX but not sure weather those engines may also be impacted. Has Toyota/Lexus made an official statement on which engines are for sure effected and what the cause was? Because without that how do we know the same issue is not going to happen with other engines?
This is actually good news. The TT v6 isn’t necessarily unreliable, the manufacturing process was flawed
Going to be a billion dollar mistake, and that's optimistic. If you are a Toyota tech, you can make some serious bank right now. Expand your shop and pump out the rebuilds
One month per rebuild...
Why dont you research the 2022-23 tundra fuel gauges. No fix after 2 years. We have to track our fuel with trip odometer or pen n paper. Fuel gauge keeps defaulting to full when it’s not.
Can you do the gx550 over trail ? I love to know how good is it this 2024 models
You point out been being used since 2017. But the recall is only for the trucks. Concerning that only vehicle that had high displacment engines for towing and utility.
There are some anecdotes about LS500 engine failures out there... unknown how many though

UPDATE: Toyota/Lexus after a major legal threat decided to replace the entire engine, no games= no lawsuits. 👍

So why was there a recall on naturally aspirated 4.6 and 3.5 engines in 2010?
Great historical reference!…. Thank You
I hope to see a lot of coverage when they are fixed and people put 100K miles no issues.
Toyota have fooled customers. My nephew paid almost 90K for a Sequoia and not it is being recalled. What a piece of crap. hahaha Karma.
You said it precisely. The machiners forgot to clean up their mess... somone from Japan with a Singapore-cane is babysitting that factory now...
It's interesting that it also affected the LX, which is built in Japan.
Not credible at all. Same quality issue both in US and JAPAN? No way.
They are hiding a design issue.
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROADit’s hard for me to believe they would not be cleaned after machinery process. Seems like there is other issues Toyota is not saying. We will see about the remedy
If it's shavings problem, why's always same failure?
Toyota showing GM how they should have handled the LS7 issue…
Highly unlikely it was just a contamination problem since it’s impacted more than one factory
how did they fixed them all???? tell us please. did they replaced all 270k engines?
Have there been any failures in the early Lexus LS cars with this engine?
My GX550 comes next month. Hopefully I have no issues. I'm coming from a 2015 Camry. That car has never given me any issues.
Just about to place an order on a new 2024 capstone. Definitely will wait for ‘25-‘26 models
I mean people do genuinley appreciate early buyers beta testing...
I wonder if they really fixed the manufacturing issue or they are just trying to keep the recall as tight as possible.
... who knows... how worried are you personally? Toyota reads the comments here 😉
Will they say now that 2024 are also included when you know that many 24’s are? They need to be sold yet don’t you think.
I don’t doubt they will include them as soon as they are all sold.
Go buy a V8 Nissan Titan and you won't have to worry about that mess of an engine in the Toyota Tundra. I promise you, you won't be getting 200k out of that twin turbo platform problem free.
I guess as worried as prudence would dictate. Can’t do anything about it now without a large financial loss but you worry that you will get the same failure many miles down the road and it won’t be covered under warranty.
@gx469 off road could you please give me a link to the v6 recall write up so that I can read over the entire thing myself? Thanks
Just search the recall ✌️
Just did a 600 mile oil change today on my 24’ GX and the tech said it was squeaky clean. 🤞🏻
Considering shavings are not the problem that means nothing.
Lol, all these complex turbos are theoretically prone to failure, all for minimal fuel efficiency gains.
What is fruaterating is for this Tundra, it's basically dont buy the first 4 or 5 years of the redesign. Much worse than just not buying the first year of a new model/redesign as has been traditional advice to follow.
In the 2010 recall how was the engine recalled handled? Short block, new engine,or truck buyback.🤔
You can’t defy physics.
The engine should be recalled for having an under whelming HP ratings. A 3 cylinder turbo cranks out 300 hp, the legendary3.5 v6 gets 301/302 hp, and yet these new v6 turbo only makes 349HP? What gives? 😜😜😜
Been saying this for years now. Game over is right, dont buy turbo’s from toyota! I have purchased my last new toyota 4X4!
So, I'll be on the lookout for my LX recall notice. Thanks for the heads up.
Yes but they'll prolly give you a TX for a loaner 😃 so that's nice
I really like this approach because it is fair and balanced. However what concerns me is that you mentioned they have been in market for 7 years but they are having problems now? Seems to be a contradiction.
perhaps the milling/flushing robots went out of calibration?? Only Toyota knows
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD Hahaha I think you may be right 😅
In the GX 550 the chief engineer stated use smaller turbo’s with 50 less horsepower. So would less peak power help these motors last longer .
this had nothing to do with turbochargers... the machinists left trash in the engine which clogged the oil passageways
"We have got some bad news..."
How is this bad news when they have decided to fix it????
you're right... let's think POSITIVE... indeed they are fixing it 😃 ❤️
When they have to tear apart your new truck to fix it then that’s a problem. Personally I wouldn’t want that truck back because it will never be the same
Lol- did you see how they have to take half the truck apart to get out the engines? So I guess you trust the dealer to put your truck back together like new.... not me.
