Whenever it doesn't block something I look up whatever I need to add. Hell, I even have it block annoying promos on Amazon for TV shows and those stupid product Livestreams on the home page 😊

I sometimes use firefox, and adblockers still work on it, but all my shit is saved on chrome so I begrudgingly use it and my adblocker on chrome no longer works...
*However* I found a solution (for now) for those who can't be bothered with switching browsers or making an adblocker work:
as soon as the ad starts, press back then press forward on the page (or ALT+back arrow, ALT + forward arrow). Clears the ad instantly. They might eventually patch that but for now it works.

My favorite part of this story is that even when it came out that this was the fault of a glitch and not an intentional move by TH-cam, absolutely nobody believed it.
That's because the fault still lies with TH-cam if their anti-adblock measures caused adblock to glitch out. If they had not changed anything, Adblock would not have had to change things on their side, and this would not have happened.
Considering Google's been caught breaking their own websites if they detect a Firefox user agent, I still don't believe it

TH-cam was concerned over people using low quality adblockers so they decided to incentivize people to use ublock origin.
The built-in browser ones not working is sad though, those weren't bad.

Use multiple addblockers, watch twitch, play games instead of watching. Every time goolag starts to display "use of addblockers is prohibited on youtube" i just think think "tough shit, if you want to display anything on my screen use of adblockers is mandatory" . Usually the issue clears itself anyway within moments anyway.
I went to pause and unpause the video to fix the buffering, and then saw the progress bar still moving and actually laughed out loud. Unironically one of the funniest punchlines you've delivered.

If you live in the EU: TH-cam is not allowed to detect ad blockers in the EU, so anyone in the EU is entirely unaffected
Because adblock had a bug where videos would slow down, many people blammed youtube, somehow... but actually it was happening on the adblock side.
It has been fixed for a while, yet people still talk about it like it's still happening.

I find the abrupt and long buffering relaxing. Gives me time to digest what has just been said before the next word is spoken. This new paradigm in (what was once known as streaming, but now more accurately called stuttering) is so refreshing.

I've sat and thought to myself, have I ever, EVER purchased anything youtube has advertised to me? And I thought no, not once have i ever done so. But then i realised that was untrue. I did eventually get that adblocker that someone was sponsored by
The thing is, point of ads is not to get you buy it instantly.
Its to make you aware of the product so when you do need something like that, you go to one that has been advertised.
Ads probably have affected you a lot more than you think.
EDIT: An example for me, is whenever i am looking to buy a new phone. I always go to Samsung first because that is the one i see advertised most and i prefer Android.

Well, there are other video platforms and other ways to watch / listen / doomscroll, so the way I see it TH-cam hasn't gotten bad *enough* yet. It may actually be too big to fail at this point I'm afraid. Creators would need to move first, which won't happen because reach and therefore money are highest on TH-cam. And viewers don't want to leave because all the best creators are here, so...
Nebula goes hard. Fucking love it. It's a pretty cheap subscription, and it has no ads and high quality content from awesome people. Many of whom have participated in creating and maintaining the website itself, so I actually feel like I'm rewarding the people I love more directly, instead of one of the biggest and richest tech companies in the world who deal in extremely immoral practices. It might end up being another TH-cam at some point, but for now I can confidently recommend it.

The worst part for me is that TH-cam has slowed down, lost all video playability, or sometimes feels out of sync WITHOUT AN AD BLOCKER ON MOBILE! I don’t even have an ad blocking widget for my phone and TH-cam STILL gets buggy.
To me it slows down to a crash, happened with every phone I ever had.
get ReVanced dude. has'nt slowed down for me during this whole mess and it even skips those annoying sponsor segments with an addon.
(tho i'll admit that setting it up was a bit of a hassle, but i'd say it was worth it)

There's a lot of terrible things happening in the world today, but being forced to watch ads is by far the worst.
But also a way for youtube to be profitable and remain free for everyone.
Whether you like it or not, ads have to exist or everything turns in to something you need monthly subscription for.
We are willing to support slave labor becuase of convince, but we refuse to support the platform and creators on it, becuase of inconvenience. We are the good guys :)

as someone who uses adblocker in 2024 and has not received any problems whatsoever except for one time when i was forced to download an adblocker instead of using my browser's built-in one, i cannot relate.
the thing is, i've been reading reports and youtube saps your CPU and buffers a lot as a result regardless of whether or not you have an adblocker. if anything, it occurs because of all the telemetry data, from what i've heard.
I never had the buffering issue either.
I do get the one where only the video loads (and plays fine), but non of the other interface shows up (like comments or recommended vids).
but I've been told that affects premium users too, so. lmao.

I ran into problems and had to disable it, kinda sad adblocker had been doing me good for over a decade it always felt invincible but the buffering was too much. I would try to type a comment and the text would appear 30 seconds later.

Honestly, before I start watching brain-garbage 60 seconds before and after every video, which sometimes has a length of 90 seconds itself, I rather stop using youtube.

I love how TH-cam makes me work more on my own personal projects by 1) Not giving me recommendations for videos for not having history on, 2) Not giving me recommendations for shorts for not having history on, and 3) Not allowing me to watch videos in the background when I use my PC because I have an adblocker (even though most of my watchtime is in my phone where I have no adblockers). Very nice from TH-cam for caring about my projects and not wanting me to get addicted.

I remember this changing because I was very disappointed, as I used to load up a bunch of TH-cam videos on my laptop all the time to watch on plane flights, long car rides (before you could affordably watch videos on your phone), etc.. That way you could watch even with 0 internet connection.
But then they changed it so that the videos only buffer a set amount past where youre at in the video, unlike buffering the whole thing the way it used to. At least on computers. I mean most people don’t even have ad block on mobile I don’t think

Absolutely do not use “ublock origin” because adblockers are bad and the devs are mean to TH-cam.
Also avoid “AdNauseum” even more. It’s adblock but even worse. It acts like it clicked on the ad and therefore scrambles data collection. It was so horrible that google had to take it off the extension store to protect their poor innocent customers.

I know this is comedy, but still, people should know that this was actually the fault of AdBlock, not TH-cam (this time lol). TH-cam deserves the criticism they get, but the high CPU usage was a problem with the AdBlock extension. That's why Premium users who had Adblock installed had the same problem.
What a wonderful coincidence that, right before TH-cam started doing this, I'd switched web browsers and simply hadn't happened to have installed an ad blocker on my new preferred browser yet.

Yes, they programmed something in where it essentially doesn't work sometimes if you have adblock. I notice basically the cursor turns into the hand before I even have it over the video timeline sometimes, and the timeline thumbnails also don't load, this is when the page is in this weird state that youtube has created to try to punish adblock users. However I found something interesting, often if you just reload the page once or twice, it actually does turn into a regular working youtube page, where it is responsive and you can hover over the timeline and the thumbnail previews show quickly and the page isn't slow.
I actually watched a 45 second ad to watch this 30 second video
I block ads on TH-cam and not had issues with slowdowns. I can't even say "this isn't related to me using ad blocking" because there's no such situation.
But I'm also using the same account on mobile TH-cam where I have ads. So many they give me a pass because I do watch ads occasionally.
From what I've heard, it's not running slow, it's actually slowing down your whole GPU (meaning other stuff will be affected as well), which is crazy to think TH-cam is even legally allowed to do that.
