    I had a 1998 KLX 300, in stock form it was pretty dull. Added a full fmf system to it, K&N airfilter and changed the carb to a pumper carb. Completely changed the bike and livined it up. Was a great bike for off-road racing, but still had steel valves and those did not last long.
    I'm so happy a new KLX is available will definitely consider investing in one after this pandemic is over..

    • @Nick-fs8vg

      The steel valves were out quick as in how many hours? Should a guy put stainless steel ones in right away?

    • @willemdebeer2507
      @willemdebeer2507 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nick-fs8vg I would say maybe around 100-120 hours. This was years ago though(2004-2006). We road every Friday for 3hours and Saturdays for about 5hours. We wanted to go the stainless steel route but was difficult because they had to be manufactured one off (could never find stainless steel options). But they should probably be available in America or somewhere where the offroad society is more alive and bigger. I have never seen another KLX300 in South Africa..But if more for the problems with the valves would probably not have Sold it. But have to wait 6 weeks every 3months or so for new valves was annoying. Eventually sold it and bought something more modern and parts were more readily available.

      @@willemdebeer2507 one more question. When you replaced your valves did you get you valve seats machined with a 3 angle valve job? Or did you just keep throwing new valves in? I'm worried now lol. Thank you for your time.

    • @willemdebeer2507
      @willemdebeer2507 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nick-fs8vg hey man, when I got the bike we replaced the exhaust valve, then we took it in regularly to get them shimmed.They wore out quickly and had to be adjusted. So basically had to send it in and get the valves adjusted. Could hear it backfiring a lot, struggling to start and then you knew it's that time... But again I was a student during those times so had a lot of free time to go riding.

    The KLX30R is a speed density fuel injection (what you call open loop). It uses a baro sensor, and engine speed to calculate fuel/air ratio. Additionally it only takes one reading for baro pressure at start up. That said if you're changing altitude a lot while riding, it would benefit from stopping, cycling the power button and restarting at major altitude changes in the middle of a ride.

    Wouldn't it be cool if houses were build around track and the only people that could build or live in the houses had bikes and likes to ride . It would be a gated dirt bike community. During the day when the gates were open then other rides in the area could ride . The people that lived there could design different tracks from pro to beginners . You could have monthly races open to the public and raced just for home owners in the community .

I’ve ridden both and the 300 feels more like a dirt bike than the 250r it also seems lighter. Pretty similar in height but the riding position on the 250r is more like a street legal duel sport dirtbike, Doesn’t feel very natural on trails or hitting jumps. 250r has a little nicer suspension tho but it’s barley noticeable. As far as speed, they’re very similar. If you’re looking for a trail bike though I’d go for the 300r. Just get new exhaust pipe definitely. The stock one is super lame.

    Pro circuit says it’s already been mapped the header and all no need to remap

    • @Nick-fs8vg
      @Nick-fs8vg  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no need to yes, but you are gaining zero horsepower from it because the airbox is still closed off. The ecu doesn't compensate more fuel. to begin with. Once you open the air box to allow the header and silencer work you will run to lean. These already come lean from the factory to pass emissions standards.there is zero point to buy a header unless you are looking for more power. So until a fuel tuner gets put in and the airbox opened it's pointless.

      Nick406 Do they have a program for it yet that u know of

    • @Nick-fs8vg
      @Nick-fs8vg  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AI-pu6zv they have 1 downloadable tune yes. Even though they programmed their tune with the stock intake and exhaust , it will work much better that the stock fuel map. They informed me that an exhaust system added on after the tuner usually only leans out the mixture around 3 or so percent with their tune. I have heard from other comments that it helps a lot. I will have mine in 2 weeks.

      You need to buy the dynojet power commander 5 . Its 335 dollars. Then you download the tune onto the power commander from a computer from their website. Then you just plug it In to your ecu. The price makes me miss jetting lol

  • @ronwest7930
    @ronwest7930 ปีที่แล้ว

    So you took off the cat? ur bike has a cat? weird. and now has just a muffler? It sounds a bit lean with the popping back I hear.

    • @Nick-fs8vg
      @Nick-fs8vg  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's just the way a long stroke old school 4 stroke sounds with an aftermarket silencer. Yes these come stock with a cat and if you touch it ,it will burn the fuck out of you

    • @ronwest7930
      @ronwest7930 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nick-fs8vg actually that's because the bike is already running lean and when you change the exhaust it makes the bike run even leaner. I've never owned a dirt bike with fuel injection but we always had to change jetting when adding a super trapp or different exhaust. I don't know if the FI would compensate for the exhaust change. You probably messed up the computer and how it is set up. My xl 500 ran lean and popped back like that, once in a while it would cut out when you first gave it gas, it had a goofy carb that wasn't adjustable. I hear this on street bikes a lot when they change the exhaust and don't change the jetting. That lean popping back. sorry to ramble.

    Beautiful bike. Half the price of a Husky but still more than enough bike for my skills as an old dude. I wish Kawasaki would make an Enduro version with a headlight, brake light, brush guards. It could be the new KDX 200. Put a horn on it and I'll add the mirrors and it could be street legal in my state (don't need turn signals to be legal here).

      I know. The reason the didn't do the lights and stuff is that it is already to heavy. It would be cool to see a little more r&d money spent on this but then it would cost more .
