If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make travel vlogs of all the exciting places I visit. I started travel vlogging about 8 years ago because I wanted to see more of the world and be able to watch back some of my adventures. I also make weekly comedy videos every Sunday on my main channel usually revolving around funny differences between British vs American things! Anyway, thanks for stopping by!

12:12 Yer you didn't choose a good Airbnb location regarding noise and anti-social behaviour. Bold Street is right in the heart of Liverpool's nightclub scene. Right behind where you were staying is surrounded by nightclubs. So yes you get a lot of happy and rowdy people there every night, all night. Especially on Fridays and Saturdays. Also, the Police saying she was very happy was a euphemism for very drunk.

A notice on a church in Liverpool said 'If you're done with sin come in.' Underneath someone had written 'If you're not, ring this number' (followed by the number). Another church notice said. 'What would you do if Jesus came to Liverpool?' Underneath someone had written 'Move St John to inside right' (St John was a famous Liverpool footballer at the time).

6:15 it was supposed to be bigger, in fact it was supposed to be the biggest in the world. Search up ‘Lutyens Cathedral’. Only the crypt was built and then they ran out of money after WW2 so they built a smaller design on top of the crypt, which is known locally as the ‘wigwam’ iirc.

Back in 2001 I was on a week-long residential choir course mostly at the Anglican (ie. Church of England) cathedral since it was aimed at people going for choral scholarships at Oxford/Cambridge, but we did also sing a couple of services at Liverpool Met. The two buildings have very different acoustics, as you might expect - sound in the Anglican cathedral just rolls down to the entrance doors, while in the Met cathedral it disappears up the central 'chimney' which is quite challenging.

Sefton Park may be our biggest park (?) but it's a long way from my favourite (and I did use to live nearby). I loved the Anglican Liverpool Cathedral when I visited it. If you return to Liverpool, try visiting the crypt of the RC Cathedral. The original idea was to build a church designed by Lutyens and the crypt was actually built. It is so wonderful! The model of the Lutyens cathedral is (or was ten years ago) in one of the museums, but I forget which one. They had to scrap plans to build the Lutyens because it would have cost too much.

From what I’ve been told by many of my scouse friends, scouse is a stew from leftovers or veg that needs eating - kind of the meat and veg in the pantry just before a big shop. So it varies from family to family depending on what meat and veg the family regularly eats

    • @LadyLocket
      @LadyLocket 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Traditionally you use the cheap cuts of beef chopped up as it was originally poor people food, some form of stock, potatoes, white onions, carrots and salt (ratios vary by family recipe). All chopped and thrown in a big pot together and stewed very slowly to soften the meat. Lots of families have there own spin on the stock/gravy and seasonings (like adding a spoonful of brown/tomato sauce, bone marrow, Bovril or similar)
It famously tastes better reheated the next day so many families choose to “make it today, for tomorrow’s eatin” and a pot usually lasts for 3-4 days depending on family size and gets better each day.
Using mince, lamb or any other veg (like peas, sweetcorn, leeks or beans) makes it an Irish stew in traditional Scousers eyes. Though as with everything, modern tastes will add or spin the recipe to their own liking.

They were really imaginative about the Civic Crest of the city though , it's a .... Liver Bird! The town was founded by King John in 1208 and the citizens adopted his symbol 'The Eagle of St John' but over the years it got to look like a Pterodactyl and so has its own bird named after the town.

When you’re in Liverpool you’re in another country we are unique in this country we hopefully respect where you come from and glad you’re here we don’t care what you’re name is boy we’ll never turn you away

Lovely to see the cathedrals, I live in Liverpool but with the pandemic I haven't visited them for a while. Did you find the arch in the Anglican cathedral where you can stand at either end and whisper to each other?

Fun memory Years ago Mother and Brother in law where in the congregation at the catholic cathedral. They were filming a live church service called "songs of praise". Camera panned across and focused briefly on my brother-in-law he was picking his nose. Picking his nose on live TV during a church service Grandma in law was very proper very unimpressed lol. He's in his 40s now I feel old just realised how long I've known my wife.
They all used to travel to Liverpool at the weekend for Mother-in-law to have organ lessons in paddy's wigwam. Number of times they had to evacuate different buildings in the city because the IRA had phoned in a bomb threat. Wife says nearly every time they went they ended up stood in the cold. It's an amazing city always full of life.

Are you sure the Metropolitan Cathedral reminds you of one in Rio? It reminds me of the famous one in Brasilia. I don't remember there being one like that in Rio, but then again I've not watched your Rio video (yet).

fun fact about the catholic cathedral, it was originally designed to be bigger than the protestant one, but the church ran out of money and marble during the 2nd world war and had to redesign it so it was feasible to build ! :P

Kitchen's closing early is so annoying, and quite common unfortunately. The good places win out eventually and there are plenty of them. Castle Street, HArdman Street, Hope Street, Bold Street, Lark Lane, Hanover Street, Liverpool One, Jamiaca Street.. Definitely do your research first though and check out trip advisor, it's usually a good inidcator. I would also advise any tourists not to stay in cheap accommodation on Bold Street, ever! Far too noisy and there are an abundance of hotels for the same price. Nice video anyway guys, hope you come back one day!

The original design for the Roman Catholic cathedral was going to be much bigger than than the Angican, you can see the architects model of it in the waterfront museum.

I hope you enjoyed Liverpool - you walked past/videoed where I lived near Philharmonic Hall (as a student in early 1990's), If I remember correctly the nickname of the Roman Catholic Cathedral was 'Paddy's Wigwam') and the large CoE Cathedral was early 20th century and designed by the same guy who designed the iconic red UK Telephone Box. You could have had a really good 'dim sum' lunch in Liverpool's China Town. Not scouse but still ethnic! Not sure if you knew how much Liverpool got bombed in WW2, there was a lot of damage including the church you couldn't get into. I hope you walked in the footsteps of Liverpool's famous sons - over the Abbey Road Zebra where the Beatles were photographed for the Album cover.
