I was born in Liverpool, worked in SE Asia for 30 yrs it always fills me with pride when people from Japan, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia tell me how much they love my city, one of my favourite nights was in Singapore when I was invited to the Singapore LFC fan club, when the members heard I was a real Scouser they wouldn’t let me pay for a drink, they even asked me to bless their flag YNWA.
I'm a liverpool fan and English. A d proud..what about the English fans that contributed to the Hillsborough fund ..blane the torts. Fair enough...but it's not englands fault and liverpool is in England .not Ireland or Wales.....dont forget ya roots
As a foreigner, I have visited Liverpool twice. I found it a refreshing and friendly city to visit. I never understood why they booed the national anthem. Now I do. Thank you for this enlightening video.
@26wessex84 Liverpool has 92 percent of its people has irish dna also we have the spirit of not allowing tyranny. Most unvaccinated city in the world here 💪
I’ve been reading these comments and it’s really taken me by surprise. The comments have been so gracious and positive about our City and I thank each and everyone of you so much!! Peace and Love ❤️
Hey Frank, I hope you're doing well! I'm so glad you liked the video and that it had so many great responses. It was only possible because of your ability to present Liverpool's history so well! AQll the best to you 😊

It's a cracking video. I remember having a beer with you on Matthew Street, I think it was Rubber Soul but we were there a while and it wasn't the only bar we went to before we met you. As a fellow scouser, it was good to have a bevvy. You also taught my mother history on one of your courses. "Proud to be a scouser, I'll just leave it at that". Well said.
I confess I’m from the east of England I had this view of Liverpool. However I’m a Beatles fan my wife arranged a surprise trip to Liverpool to do all the Beatles stuff. This place is amazing I’ve missed out on not going before people are friendly, places to eat, drink lots of tourist stuff and 2 great football clubs. I apologise for my misplaced prejudice to all the people of Liverpool. I’m envious of what your city has.
As a Norwegian, hearing that "scouse" comes from lapskaus (lobscouse) was quite a revelation! I'd say lapskaus is no culinary delight, but at least it's nourishing 😄
I just came back from a one month trip in the UK. My favorite city by far was Liverpool (London being the one that I liked the least). Liverpool has a great reputation outside England specially for being The Beatles hometown. But once I went there, I understood why it is so special. The whole atmosphere of the city, it was friendly, opening, warm and not pretentious whatsoever, albeit they have A LOT to be proud of. I absolutely loved it, and would choose it as a place to live, no doubt.
Exactly ... outside England. Most of the derision from the rest of England is just the green monster rearing it's ugly head bc they know and feel that LIV has something real, different, and enticing about it's culture that they wish they had.
I’ve lived in both Liverpool and london. One of the biggest mistakes I made moving from Liverpool to London. People in Liverpool are much more friendly. Never felt comfortable or at home in London. People down there can be rude, standoffish and impatient.
People like yourself will always be welcomed. Those who are here trying to push negative stereotypes don't even visit the city. Those that do from all over the world love it.
I am from Canada with Jordanian roots big fan of LFC and visited the city few times. People warned me about Liverpool city and the crime rate, but the few days I spent there I saw nothing but friendly people awesome city rich culture and phenomenal Anfield atmosphere, I wish I could say I am a Scouse but I can say I love Liverpool and will visit it again some day YNWA!
Well said mate and what you said about our city is pretty much what 99% who go there say they love it. Liverpool is 5th on the most dangerous cities for crime but the large majority and the nature of the crimes are mainly drug related as it plays a big part in European drug trafficking. Most crimes are assault or murder mainly related to drugs. London and Leeds as well as Cleveland and Hartlepool have a higher crime rate than Liverpool but this part is left out when Liverpool is said to be crime capital of England simply not true.
@@mrjasondylanwhen I was in London for an official training in 2019, I and my colleagues couldn't even go to Hyde park as we were stalked by a Turkish goon speaking Queen's English asking for our passports etc but we were able to fend him off. And mind you this was close to the Holiday Inn where we stayed close to the market near Gloucester Road underground station. Several areas in London are no go zones n on that very trip I also went to Anfield as LFC that year had won the 2018-19 Champions League n I found it to be one of the warmest cities in the world, not just UK. In fact from my near horrendous experience it is London that I'd call the crime capital of England/Britain.
Thank you to all of you giving positive feedback about our great city and salt of the earth people!! It’s lovely to hear instead of the negative press we get ! We’ve got the greatest team in the world LFC. ! When the grand National had a bomb scare ,we took everybody in and fed and watered them until they were allowed to get there belongings, the amount of people that wrote to the Liverpool echo was amazing !praising us scousers for our hospitality!! ..it’s just second nature to do that in a emergency, for us scousers not English.
You come from a wonderful heritage. I'm touched you'd want to be Scouse, but always be proud of your family and where you come from. Liverpool is open to those that come with an open mind and an open heart.
I'm Irish and always love going to Liverpool. It's a unique city with wonderful people, always ready to have a joke with you or help you out. I'll never have a bad word said about them. The city is full of interesting things to do and places to visit with a fascinating history, and a great night life too.

My dad once said, “You could be a blind man in the passenger seat of a car and you’d still feel it when you enter Liverpool. The atmosphere is unmatched”
@James Bong this pathetic attitude of yours Jim is another reason why the people of Liverpool feel the way they do. As a young man I loved my cars. My first was a Triumph Spitfire. After that I had a Xr3i, then a Xr2i then a Escort turbo. Non of these cars (my pride and joy) were ever scratched or broken into in Liverpool. I had a girlfriend in Blackburn where my Xr3i was broken into the stereo was stolen and the car vandalised. My turbo was stolen while visiting family in Bracknell and a car years later again broken into this time in Birmingham when attending finals day at Edgbaston. This isn't exactly a scientific poll but does show at the very least Liverpool is as safe and its people certainly no more likely to commit burglary as anywhere else in the UK. Its time this pathetic stereo typing was put to bed.
thank you for making this Tieran. it means a lot to me, and i know it'll mean a lot to every single person who is in Liverpool, was born here, or who has any association with this amazing city. you'd did us all proud my friend. thank you from the bottom of our collective hearts x
Thank you for such a wonderful piece! I'm from Liverpool, moved back seven years ago from 15 years in London. It always puzzled me why people were so snobby about Liverpool. That said, wherever I worked, they were snobby about anywhere up north. Working in the investment banks, one guy told me 'you'll get burgled if you move back'. I did a quick search online, and where I was moving to in Liverpool had a far less crime rate than where he lived in London!! Really made me laugh. The class system in the UK is still strong. But the best defence for anywhere is for people to visit and see for themselves. Everyone loves it who I've had visit. Thanks again for such a wonderful piece. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Consider yourselves honorary scousers now. x
Good to see you are happy in Liverpool but when I lived in different parts of London in the 1990s and early 2000s I did not encounter snobbery towards the north west or elsewhere in the country. It is a myth peddled and believed by many that the north west and elsewhere is friendly. One of the friendliest places I lived in is Wimbledon Park, which had its own community association and a really positive vibe in the area generally.
When I lived in England for fourteen years, I noted that the open snobbery and contempt for "The North" came from the Home Counties, especially Surrey, as opposed to Londoners. When I lived near to Godalming, between Guilford and Haslemere, more than one local talked about the country going to the dogs once "north of the Watford Gap."
@@anthonyburn1010 Though Lindon born, (Chiswick) I've lived most of my life in Kent and now Surrey and the only person who I can ever remember saying anything derogatory about the North came from Northern Ireland. Most people actually talk with affection about Scotland, Yorkshire, the Peak district, the Lake district etc.
@John Brereton - all I can say is lucky you. I was born and raised in New Zealand, so had no dog in the fight. I am not dreaming what I heard though, living in that neck of the woods.
@@anthonyburn1010 its true but also goes both ways, Northerners think Southerners are snobbish, there are many working class towns and cities in Southern England and we don't all talk with the plummy BBC accent. As for the British class system it really holds the country back.

Being Irish and living in Manchester 21 years, I’ve always liked the people of Liverpool - an Irishman from a neighbouring village to my own in Ireland got seriously injured during a football riot and the people of Liverpool looked after him and his family and now, he’s fully recovered and back home in Ireland
Love this video, sums up the place perfectly. I was born in Liverpool, dads a scouser, mam is from Dublin, Ireland. I moved to Dublin when I was very little when mam and dad split up and ive lived in Ireland ever since. but still have massive love for Liverpool and Liverpudlians. As pointed out in the video, a lot of Irish settled there and Irish people "Love a bit of Devilment" as we say and are very rebellious in nature, we dont like to be told what to do. Long live Liverpool!
Spent a few years working in a call centre in Liverpool and it's true, they are the nicest, most generous people I've ever worked with. On nights out in the city centre, they'd often club together to pay for me to get a taxi home so I could stay out later instead of leaving earlier to get the last train home. Never met anyone as generous and I've worked all over the north west.
I have lived in Saudi for three years , I could not wait to get back .Home is where the heart is ,I wont be going anywhere else . God bless my city YOU WONT WALK ALONE IN LIVERPOOL ❤
Well said lad. As a fellow Scouser and Hillsborough survivor I appalud your efforts at history rebalance. The frustration, over the years, has for me, turned from first indignation and hurt, into total apathy for those who wish to remain ignorant and bigotted (apologies to the genuine non Scousers, many who have visited and know the truth first hand). The establishment in all its forms is to me not a culture to appalud, not one I wish to be part of, and one which has become totally irrelevant. YNWA
I'm a Ghanaian but i like Liverpool just as l like the club. I always feel I'll visit there one day and i even feel one of them. I wish to visit Liverpool one day😰
I'm from Liverpool and couldn't care either way about royalty but I think it's important to note that the booing of the national anthem is booing at the establishment and not a personal slant at the queen ( who reigned at the time).
Booing at the national anthem is akin to booing the rest of the nation, and all the people therein. The rest of the nation kept the economy of Liverpool afloat while it was a basket case in the 1980s. I think that these people, aka the English, deserve some respect at the very least. It was already suffering before Thatcher was PM, and it certainly wasn't helped by Derek Hatton and his far-left socialist local government.
@@28pbtkh23 Like I said the booing is aimed at the establishment and AT no one else. The rest of country kept liverpools economy going, we didn't have a economy thatcher put liverpool in management decline, Thatcher who is part of the establishment, the same thatcher who lied about Hillsborough because she had some sort of misplaced loyalty to the police of Yorkshire for there heavy-handed way of dealing with coal strikes. Our economy was bad and that was due to thatcher and yes your right the militants at the time done us no favours but im not going to lay all the blame at there feet.
@@stedevo3812 - you are repeating old myths which have gained acceptance amongst many people in Britain, especially in areas that suffered from economic decline during the 1960s - 1980s. No - Thatcher did not put anywhere into managed decline in the 1980s. In fact she hated the very idea of Britain managed decline, which was an idea that was widespread in the civil service at the time. It was also popular amongst economists. She spoke against this idea in her many speeches. She did not lie about Hillsborough. She was LIED TO about H. in a report given to her by the police. Due to her upbringing, it was inconceivable to her that public servants, particularly the police, would lie to a prime minister or the government of the day. Today, we all know that civil servants and politicians lie all the time. But Thatcher thought that honesty was still the norm in the public sector.
@@28pbtkh23 Old Reports from the time that are now available to the public reveals a letter saying she wanted to manage decline the city look it up. In fact she sent Michael Heseltine up here to over look it and report back. He seen the potential in the city and went against her wishes. It was down to him laying the foundation that helped build the city back up. I called it at the time, there would never be a enquiry were the truth came out until she died. Within 12 months of her death the wheels of justice finally started moving.
@@28pbtkh23you might be correct but Thatcher was complicit in targeting football supporters as hooligans. Hillsborough was a catastrophic disaster that happened due to police mismanagement. Thatcher may gullibly took what SYP said as fact but it stemmed from her own views on football supporters being hooligans. You can spin it to be that that was the times then but Thatcher had the power to set about change in football. She didn’t do nothing until a disaster happened.
Cracking video, thoroughly enjoyed it. My late Father was from Liverpool, (Walton area), his parents too. Sadly only ever met my Grandma a few times. You see my Dad was adopted in late 1945, (think he was a celebration at the end of WW2). I see myself as half scouse but fully Lancastrian as Liverpool was part of Lancashire. Best sense of humour in the UK. A proud city & very proud that my Dad came from there. My Mum is from the Wigan area.
Finally somebody has mentioned the sense of Humour akin to the city. Not mentioned in the Video but defines the city as much as anything. You really notice a definite lack of any sense of humour when you leave the city, especially as you travel South.
Long story short, I am in LOVE with LIVERPOOL City , LFC and IRELAND. As the old man in the video said its not about the city, its about the people of city. *African doctor who worked over Ireland and England. Justice for 97

I spent time in Liverpool in the mid to late 70s. At that time the city had the uncanny combination of being very poor, very criminal, and very friendly all at once. I have to say I found Liverpool most fascinating regardless. Finally Liverpool is predominantly world famous for its music history, its football, and Shotokan Karate.

completely missed out the Liverpool City Council (Derek Hatton etc) dispute, part of the managed decline which i never knew had "official" status, so let me try.... Liverpool was seperated from the rest of the country, and in the mid 1980s the City Council said that the city had had 30MIL pounds "stolen by Thatcher" but all the other councils that also had stood up to rate-capping etc backed out and left Liverpool CC isolated...... but the year the dispute kicked off was 1984 and about the time the coal miners came out on strike, against Thatcher and her de-industrialisation policies and so Liverpool City Council, Derek Hatton & Tony Mulhearn etc LEFT THE MINERS IN THE LURCH so the miners were defeated because of the total lack of solidarity apart from a few train drivers in Scotland and it's a reason there is basically NO Militant in Liverpool (Socialist Party they are called nowadays) which at least is something good!

To be honest in my own lifetime's experience it's not just Liverpool. As a Londoner now living in Melbourne, I spent many weekends in Liverpool during the 80’s and into the 90’s. I always felt akin to scousers as working class people. It’s the English establishment most people don’t like not other English people
Funny how your class solidarity and dislike of the English establishment didn't stop you from squatting on oppressed Aboriginal soil that was stolen. You don't like the English establishment, but you don't mind enjoying the fruits of their Empire. Somewhat hypocritical, no?
You are correct about people hating the British establishment rather than the individual British person. As an Irishman we refer to the British as “the old enemy” and the Union Jack as “the butchers apron” with very good reason. I know the ordinary British citizens don’t make government policies regarding my country but their ignorance of ordinary citizens about the atrocities carried out here in Ireland is definitely offensive. The British government butchered their own Liverpudlians like they did the Irish. But that’s down to the low calibre of British politicians. I would like to think that the friendly character of Liverpool is due to the large population of Irish descent and that a lot of the dissidents are of Irish descent too. There is no honour in the British government.

To any Scousers watching, absolute nothing but love brothers and sisters from myself in Manchester; I’ve been to Liverpool countless times and I’ve got to say you are some of the warmest and friendliest people I’ve met and in such a beautiful city to top it all off! Will be back many times to come! 🐝❤🐦
We were totally taken aback by how friendly everyone in Liverpool was. Multiple times a day someone would stop us on our bikes asking if we needed anything like help with directions. I agree with your comment wholeheartedly!
@@TieranFreedman I'm a Welshman who supports the Reds and I've been there before... One of the only times I heard fluent Welsh being spoken was in the queue for breakfast in our hotel and it was one of the most refreshing conversations I'd had. A couple were there from Llangrannog to meet the husband's brother who lived there in Liverpool. When they learnt that I was there from Casnewydd (Newport) in South Wales, and that I intend to speak fluent Welsh someday, we had an extensive conversation within that queue that day. Then we all went to Anfield, and that, is a story in of itself, for another day!
I absolutely agree with Andrew. I lived with locals in Liverpool for 6 months and visited lots of places in the UK in that time but back in Liverpool was always the best. It's not just a city, it's a feeling and I miss that so much since being back in Germany.
The unity of the city is best described by the rivalry which ironically binds the city together. The TWO football clubs, Everton, mentioned only once, must be included. As there are many mixed marriages in the city, Everton suffered just as much as Liverpool. The support from Everton FC and its supporters after Hillsborough proving the point despite the events of Heysel Stadium 1985 . Standing alone and fighting authority is unfortunately a trite forced upon those who inhabit the city. This is where the renowned sense o humor arises. A City with such a rich history in the Arts which is rarely mentioned. Note the surprise of students from other areas of the country on discovering how the city works and even survived.
Yes I’m fae Glasgow but have lots of Scouse family members n I see an affinity with both city’s the people are friendly in both places but don’t fuck with them either.
@@bazglsgw1208 The Scots were the biggest community here before the Irish famine. I have Irish, Welsh, and Scottish in my bloodline. But my surname is Scandinavian.
A very well presented subject. Curious though that you chose to airbrush out Everton Football Club and it's part in the city. The fierce rivalry between the two clubs of the city is legendry, as is the fierce loyalty fans feel to each other in times of crisis. Both teams have a rich and colourful heritage, what a shame to concentrate on one. I'd always heard of Liverpool as jokingly being referred to as the capital of Ireland not Wales. I don't live in Liverpool anymore, but it's the place I grew up and it's always close to my heart. May the people of the city prosper and nurture this feeling of unique cultural identity from the rest of the country.

Ive been to Liverpool a few times and absolutely loved the city! Most recently it also hosted Eurovision! I actually went and saw one of the shows and thought Liverpool did a great job hosting. The atmosphere in the city was also incredible. I was sad to leave in the end. Im surprised Eurovision didnt get mentioned in this video as I think thats really helped the city’s reputation as well.
Im a scouser and have lived in Canada for 20 years now. I went home for the first time in 8 years last October. Took my boys to get their hair cut at Tony Slavins on Penny Lane so they could experience something from the Beatles. We sat waiting for our turn and there was a family next to us and they were so lovely and by the time it was our turn we knew everything about them! My kids have never experienced such friendly openness like it before! I also have to say that I am also English and proud to be so. The booing of the anthem is a dig at the establishment not other English people.
Thank You. I knew that one of the Reasons Liverpool fans booed the Anthem had to do with Hillsborough and that the way Thatcher treated the city, but I had never heard about the General Strike. Also Thank You, because I had always wondered where the Term Scouse came from.
As an Evertonian, I can tell you the anthem thing started way before. Every Wembley occasion, I have been at from the 70s right through, there has been booing and singing over that dirge of an anthem. You are correct about 86 but 84 was even more forceful and vociferous. BTW, why do some Scots sing it when it recounts crushing the life out of them!? Good piece though.
Hi Tieran, our cycling- friend. Really nice information about Liverpool, I didn't know this before. Thanks so much. Like your videos so much. Kindly regards from Bali 🇮🇩 Carmen and Phillipp
Brilliant video mate, I'm a scouser, currently living outside the city and have done for several years now. The amount of garbage I hear about the city and scousers in general is absolutely appalling. People really do need educating, but the media in the UK (both print and tv) have an awful lot to answer for in terms of perpetuating a stereotype.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah I've been really surprised by the scale of that, and the number of negative comments during and after creating this video. I feel like a lot of the more extreme negative commenters on this video don't realise that their comments alone are enough to explain why some people identify as Scouse rather than English.
I met Cila Black in New Zealand airport of all places. And my mum took me to see the Beatle mania in Sydney 1964. Liverpool has reached out and touched me! ❤️👍
Do you also greet all the other millions of Irish people who came to England in the same way ? Because a lot of Irish and some Scot-Gaels and Welsh, are ignorant when they hear a southern England accent, presuming that they must be related to the Queen or something similar. More Irish people went to the London area than Liverpool, well also more Irish [people went to the Midlands than Liverpool also, to this day.
@@captaininspector8898 but he’s not just talking about the Irish influence alone. It’s more about Liverpools stand in society and their political look on thing. Nobody is more similar than an Irishmen and a scouser. Also, your information is so wrong. By 1851, more than 20% of Liverpool was born in Ireland. I think you need to do some research on what city has the most Irishmen (%). Because you’re so badly mistaken. Liverpool has literally been nicknamed “33rd county of Ireland”
Gracias por el video. Muy bello. YNWA. Lo de la tragedies de Hillsborough me da tristeza escucharlo.😢 Desde Guatemala, algún día voy a visitar Liverpool.
Much love liverpool I was down in toxteth two days after all the riots stopped and I found the people to be extremely proud and kind as I had been sent for a paper and got lost walked into the wrong house lol. The nice family knew I was lost as I was a kid with a thick Scottish accent and they kindly calmly took me back to where I was visiting. I have been in liverpool a few times and the people make me feel like I am back home the people of Newcastle were the same when I was last in your great cities. You are never alone we all walk with you
I’m not a Scouser but have enjoyed a lifelong love affair with the City. As a child obsessed by the Beatles and Liverpool Football Club - the city’s represented something of a Disney World like aura in my mind… My first ever memory in life was waving at my sisters in the giant Yellow Submarine at the festival gardens of 1984… I returned 5 years later for my first match at Anfield - a 3-0 win over Southampton, when I even met Kenny Dalglish afterwards and John Barnes at the hotel we were staying at..! Countless matches later and even a Paul McCartney gig at Anfield in 2008…! The Champions League homecoming parade in 2005 or the 4-0 smashing of Barcelona… and God knows how many Magical Mystery Tours I’ve since done.. showing new friends the sights… amazing memories of an amazing place. Liverpools a wonderful City. Like nowhere else on Earth.
I'm not from Liverpool I'm not even from England but i love everything about Liverpool i became more aware because of the football aspect but it was obvious that here's something special about the city, the culture and its people i love how proud and humble they are. This is a well done video! Great work!
Not that Kansas City has ever been flagrantly left to rot, but we’re so often disregarded by our countrymen- this vid made me feel a bond with the Scouse. Thanks- very appreciated!
That reads like a Mormon mother on an aol message board in 1998. I mean to say- fuck the crown, fuck capitalism, and gods bless the arts. (Which were highly implied, but never shown in this video)
@@grahamnodwell5693you're well within your rights to feel English and proud but I think that you'd probably admit that you're in the minority amongst Scousers in feeling this way.
As a Nigerian living in England I identify as a scouser! They are so so reminiscent of home - super friendly, happy to help, warm and very very inclusive/welcoming. It doesn't even feel like you're a foreigner. Not the BS I experienced in south west England! Love living in Liverpool. Can't speak highly enough of it ❤
Liverpools whole history is built on immigration. Why do you think scousers are so welcoming and friendly? It’s because, it’s been imbedded into the city’s culture for centuries. To be respectful and helpful to travellers, who come by or stay. As, many scousers were shipmen or tradesmen themselves. Also, because scousers are just unique 😉 Anyways, much love from scouser.
Bloody hypocrite.... Why can't you just make your positive opinion and move on. Must you try to paint others negative just because you spent time in Liverpool? Try to be rational when you speak because you coming across as ignorant
Beautiful video this mate, explained so well for being so short (could have had a couple of hours on each point and still not scratched the surface haha) got me a little emotional.
There's another city that comes to my mind as for friendlies, uniqness and hospitality of inhabitants. That is Glasgow. I know because i live there. I worked on a construction site in Liverpool onve and fell like i never left Glasgow! It was great.
Thank you, I have very fond memories of Liverpool. I was born just outside of the city in Ormskirk, my mothers side of the family were scouse. My father worked on the Cunard building right next door to the Liver building (the center building in sect 1:07) his office was right at the top and I used to look over the edge when I was a kid. Liverpool has changed much for the better, it looks clean and tidy with many parks and an attractive water front. The Liverpool remember of the 50,s was a really dirty city with rows and rows of tenement slums, some bombed out from WWII. All covered in black soot. However the people were ever so hospitable and friendly and full of jokes and fun. In short Liverpool deserves to prosper!
Just remember when you use the name Scouse not English because of the press unfairly demonising scousers it’s not coming from ordinary English folk outside Liverpool. I’m a Londoner and I’m proud to be cockney, English and British. But the injustice for the families who lost love ones in the Hillsborough disaster is unacceptable, and I pray and hope that injustice is put right.
I'm an import from Stoke-on-Trent and lived here for 12 years now... I've been coming here to watch the redmen since 1977 and I say with absolutely no equivocations I'm proud to call this fabulous city my home.... Adopted scouser
I'm from Scotland and had taken the press's reputation of Liverpool to gospel until I actually visited the city. How my mind was changed. Great place, would visit again in a heartbeat
I, a guy from Salford, just 5 minutes out from Manchester, have nothing but admiration and appreciation for Liverpool and the Scouse, every time I've been, every Scouser I've come across, was a wonderful time, the people are some of the loveliest and friendliest people I've met, and the city is so rich and cultured, I've had many good times there and there will be more. I know our rivalry with Liverpool derives mostly from the football and the industrial revolution, but watching this video was a real eye opener as to just how badly Liverpool was left to rot in the decline brought on by the South... The North in general suffered greatly, but the injustice brought to Liverpool is disgusting and only solidifies my appreciation for the city that much more. Bad people are everywhere in the world, for a once powerful city to have its reputation dragged through the mud so much is a disgrace, and I can now understand just why there are Scousers that stand by the "Scouse NOT English" motto. This is a fantastic video essay and deserving of a like and subscribe
I think it’s a lot to do with the vast wealth the city gained during the 1800s shipping . It is though London had a divine right to all and the establishment could do nothing about it apart from ongoing attitudes of retribution.
I've been in Canada almost 48 of my almost 53 years. The skyline, the waterfront and most of all the accent make me so homesick. This lands the place I love. I was born on the Wirral but my Dad was 100% Scouse so, since in 1974 Wirral went from Chesire to Merseyside I always identify myself as a Scouser. Someday I'm coming home for a visit and I'll be spending at least a week near the Mersey.
Wow, I hope you get to visit at some point soon! When was the last time you went back? I hope the video made you feel a little closer to Liverpool even if just for a moment 💚

Whereabouts in Walton did your dad live? I mostly grew up there.
Finally somebody has mentioned the sense of Humour akin to the city. Not mentioned in the Video but defines the city as much as anything. You really notice a definite lack of any sense of humour when you leave the city, especially as you travel South.
It's sad what they've done to Lancashire. We've been divided up by the local authorities of Merseyside and Greater Manchester.

My exact thought. Very balanced and true account
Agree, covered a lot there.
completely missed out the Liverpool City Council (Derek Hatton etc) dispute,
part of the managed decline which i never knew had "official" status, so let me try....
Liverpool was seperated from the rest of the country, and in the mid 1980s the City Council
said that the city had had 30MIL pounds "stolen by Thatcher"
but all the other councils that also had stood up to rate-capping etc backed out and left
Liverpool CC isolated......
but the year the dispute kicked off was 1984 and about the time the coal miners came out on strike,
against Thatcher and her de-industrialisation policies
and so Liverpool City Council, Derek Hatton & Tony Mulhearn etc LEFT THE MINERS IN THE LURCH
so the miners were defeated because of the total lack of solidarity apart from a few train drivers in Scotland
and it's a reason there is basically NO Militant in Liverpool (Socialist Party they are called nowadays)
which at least is something good!
It's American brain washing fake news.

The support from Everton FC and its supporters after Hillsborough proving the point despite the events of Heysel Stadium 1985 . Standing alone and fighting authority is unfortunately a trite forced upon those who inhabit the city. This is where the renowned sense o humor arises. Liverpool has literally been nicknamed “33rd county of Ireland”
@@captaininspector8898 you also have to keep in mind. 99% of the Irishmen, had to come through Liverpools docks to get to London. Most settled here…
@@joshg2603 Sure, many, or via Anglesey. Or even I guess into other places, Bristol or Cardiff even.
Gracias por el video. Muy bello.

Lo de la tragedies de Hillsborough me da tristeza escucharlo.😢
Desde Guatemala, algún día voy a visitar Liverpool.
As a child obsessed by the Beatles and Liverpool Football Club - the city’s represented something of a Disney World like aura in my mind…
My first ever memory in life was waving at my sisters in the giant Yellow Submarine at the festival gardens of 1984… I returned 5 years later for my first match at Anfield - a 3-0 win over Southampton, when I even met Kenny Dalglish afterwards and John Barnes at the hotel we were staying at..!
Thank you. YNWA.
The only reason people bang on about the citys` spirit is because there is nothing else.
Its a dump.

I'm not from Liverpool I'm not even from England but i love everything about Liverpool i became more aware because of the football aspect but it was obvious that here's something special about the city, the culture and its people i love how proud and humble they are. This is a well done video! Great work!
From Marseille in France, we salute the great city of Liverpool and all its inhabitants !
Next to ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ La Marseillaise is the best anthem ever
What a fantastic video, thank you so much for this, I'm from Liverpool and was a bit emotional by the end of this 😅
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it! ☺
Yeah right. I'm from Detroit. Lol
Love original scousers, I'm from Hull, great people,xx🏴🔥💥
From Pakistan... I always Loved Liverpool fc... Its my dream to visit Liverpool... YNWA...
Am a scouser born and bred.
But am English and proud 🏴
🤮
Good for you😅😅😅
Not scouse then.
Well Born in Liverpool
Lived here all my life
But am English 🏴
@@grahamnodwell5693you're well within your rights to feel English and proud but I think that you'd probably admit that you're in the minority amongst Scousers in feeling this way.
Fantastic, interesting, and very well produced video. Very very good.
i hope Frank Carlyle is reading these comments he's a hero of mine and one of the few people i know who talks the truth about Liverpool
A fantastic short film and explains the title perfectly. I love my City Liverpool YNWA ❤
Also, because scousers are just unique 😉
Anyways, much love from scouser.
Bloody hypocrite.... Why can't you just make your positive opinion and move on. Must you try to paint others negative just because you spent time in Liverpool? Try to be rational when you speak because you coming across as ignorant
@@joshg2603Now we know where to send all the dinghy men then.
You're from Nigeria, you're Nigerian.
We'll adopt ya as a Scouser mate 👌 very welcome here. Always.
Glasgow still has a a very significant Hun problem; Liverpool has largely got rid of its.
Ormskirk is not just outside Liverpool.
@@eightiesmusic1984 How do you mean that? Is it a different country now? LOL
Loved it. Thank you for showing this
I'm an import from Stoke-on-Trent and lived here for 12 years now...
I've been coming here to watch the redmen since 1977 and I say with absolutely no equivocations I'm proud to call this fabulous city my home....

I'm from Scotland and had taken the press's reputation of Liverpool to gospel until I actually visited the city. How my mind was changed. Great place, would visit again in a heartbeat
Never take anything from the 'press' as gospel!!
