Burton's autobiography has a ton of stories and stuff about Getz and about this period. It's a bit of a tell-all, but I don't get the idea that Gary is bitter about Getz' mercurial nature. Worth a read if you get the time--great book with lots about Getz, Miles, some about Coltrane, Milt Jackson, Rudy Van Gelder, and the list goes on. Gary and Steve Swallow really started working together a lot during this era, and to my knowledge, they are still tight, even though Burton has stopped touring.
When Gary Burton was 17, the summer before he started college at Berklee School of Music, he played on a jazz album with Nashville guitarist Hank Garland (and drummer Joe Morello), was invited to play at Newport Jazz Festival, and was offered his first recording contract by RCA after Chet Atkins recommended him. AGE 17!!!
When you could watch shit hot musicians on the BBC televisual service and still have change from ten bob. Cor blimey these young uns don't know the bleeding half guvna.
This marvelous music propelled us into the future and today it is still as relevant and invigorating as it was yesterday.
So cool !
The audience listening to his bossa nova at that time is very lucky.
All the beauty, skills, taste, balance of very fine music, all time any genre great playing, The immortals would surely agree.
Great playing and a great recording job, too.
I miss Stan Getz! Never got the opportunity to watch him live! T_T
I saw him in Cleveland in the eighties. He's even better live. He had complete mastery of the horn. A beautiful player
Poder conocer y disfrutar de estos GIGANTES DEL ARTE es una lastima...pero aqui los tenemos siempre vivos.

BRASIL BRASIL BRASIL
Jazz Goes to College but according to Rodgers and Hart, 'Love Never Went to College.' Strange.
Great post ! Are there other shows from that "jazz goes to college" series ?
a little too fast for my taste but Stan Getz was superb !
Yes, but the fault of Gary with his speedy intro
Faster than usual yes. I kinda liked it. If it was a singer instead of a sax player then yes way too fast. The lyrics would've gone by soooo quickly.
At this tempo the songs loose some of their magic and poise.
Much too fast, but great musicianship regardless.
@@gillesd91only Gary would know but I seriously doubt Getz allowed him to set the tempo. I mean Gary wasn’t even permitted to solo.
Aw who disliked this?
Double lip embouchure
No
