@@bingo1232 Jobim's music is underrated because Muzak ruined the image of the music in a lot of people's minds, so everyone thinks of it as "elevator music" or "doctor's office music" in my case, because I first heard it in my optometrist's office waiting room.

Joe Henderson can play jazz in any mode....the man amazed me for all the years he lived and played. No two solos were ever the same. The man just created new music every time he played that horn.

After listening to jazz my whole adult life I think Joe Henderson has become my most favorite tenor player of all. Plus the tunes he wrote still sound so great, like fresh and new sounding, every time I hear them. RIP Joe. I am grateful for all the great music you left behind.

Love is like a never-ending melody
Always have compared it to a symphony
A symphony conducted by the lighting of the moon
But our song of love is slightly out of tune
Once your kisses raised me to a fever pitch
Now the orchestration doesn't seem so rich
Seems to me you've changed the tune we used to sing
Like the bossa nova, love should swing
We used to harmonize, two souls in perfect time
Now the lyrics and the melody don't even rhyme
For you forgot the melody our hearts would always croon
And so what good's a heart that's slightly out of tune
Tune your heart to mine the way it used to be
Join with me in harmony and sing a song of loving
We've got to be together and before too long
    There'll be no desafinado
When you give your heart to me completely
Then you won't be slightly out of tune
    You'll sing along with me
    There'll be no desafinado
When you give your heart to me completely
You won't be slightly out of tune
    You'll sing along with me

This event took place on June 7th, 1994. Sadly, little did anyone know that Jobim would have surgery 6 months later on Dec 2nd at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City only to pass away at the age of 67 on December 8th, while recovering from surgery.
Considered one of the great exponents of Brazilian music, Jobim internationalized bossa nova and, with the help of important American artists, merged it with jazz in the 1960s to create a new sound, with popular success. As a result, he is sometimes known as the "father of bossa nova"
Birth name Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim Also known as, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Tom Jobim, Tom do Vinícius
Born 25 January 1927 Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Died 8 December 1994 (aged 67) New York City, U.S.
Genres: Bossa nova,Latin jazz, samba, MPB

Betty Clark In my humble (?) opinion, Joe should have been the go-to
bossa guy from the beginning, not "Mr. Reed-Squeek" Getz. Consider Joe's
"Blue Bossa" from '61, he was right there at the right time. Maybe it was a race-
issue way back then? Mr. Henderson's always been a HUGE idol of mine!

+Ron Robbins Don't put Getz down with your insults; he was every inch the saxophone master that Henderson was... both were beyond great and I have dozens of their CDs but truth to tell I listen to more of that achingly beautiful tone of Getz than I do of Henderson.

You are certainly entitled to that opinion, and yes, Getz is widely loved and revered. But in my opinion, as a life-long (and so old) jazz player and fan, Getz was highly overrated and actually squeeked his reed on almost every recording, at least a few times. Joe, on the other hand, was way ahead in terms of phrasing, technique, and tone. Listen to his solo on "Recordame" from his first album Page One. What Getz solo would you suggest as an example? And man, take it easy, this is just music and we're all fans, nothing personal, okay?

+Ron Robbins sinatra would go over a key somewhat as did pavaratti. to play within the range is good but to take the chance to squeak the reed tells you it was getz and that it, to him, made his music. just music ! this is not just music, this is jobim.

Greetings, Richard! Yes, it's JOBIM, all the more reason not to allow a junkie like Getz to clam it up with reed-squeekin' sloppy technique (trust me, those "clams" he played weren't from "taking a chance!") Joe Henderson, in his '61 album with "Blue Bossa", "Recorda-me," etc., was already way out of Getz' league (in my not-so-humble opinion).

Meu país também sabe fazer música de qualidade. Toda sexta-feira eu no violão base, meu sobrinho no violão solo, e minha esposa no vocal, fazemos nosso encontro musical. Gostaria que nossa nação tivessem mais músicos, mesmo como nós, amadores.

I was privileged to see Joe Henderson around this same time, the early 1990's, in Atlanta. I had a seat right in front of him, in the front.
