    Thanks for all the effort in doing this. I am also a SG rider who uses the X3 and went through your frustrations. I noticed that the fogging occurs usually after the X3 records for some time and heats up, causing condensation on the lens guard which is at a much lower temperature comparitively. So in addition to applying the sticky lens guard in a dehumidified room (with dehumidifier running for a few hours), I also turned on the X3 in recording mode for about 30 minutes to get the X3 as hot as possible during application. Hopefully this somehow vents out the moist air near the X3 lens during application and this also may have something to do with the dew point of the air trapped in between the lens and lens guard but I'm not an expert in the physics of it.

      Hey no problem, glad you enjoyed the video.
      I'm guessing that because of how humid our weather is we can't really get the humidity to a low enough level that the temperature required to cause condensation due to pressure is high.
      I'm a little rusty in my physics but in theory PV=nRT , Volume of water in the air itself is constant, n and R are also "constant" so as temperature increases , P (pressure) increases as well. And with greater pressure means that the water molecules inside the confined space are more likely to collide with one another so they will eventually condense somewhere. At least thats why I think when the weather is hot enough, it will fog. But so far I haven't had that issue (or its been really rare)
      Take my science with a huge pinch of salt, I wasn't very good at thermodynamics XD

    thanks so much for your video! i was contemplating between removing the lens guard vs making do with foggy footages until i came across your video and decided to give your method of installing a try. i copied your steps completely - placed X3 and protectors (i peeled back the blue sticker backing a little just to ensure that there's no moisture trapped inside) in a container with desiccant (i left them in for 1 whole day) and improvised a little by doing the installation in my room which I have a dehumidifier switched on and the humidity in the room was at 47% when i did the installation (also w face mask on so that no risk of blowing moist air in).
    long story short, my 1hour+ of recording today and totally no fogging. (previously fogging starts barely 10mins in).
    your video should be used as Insta360's official installation guide for its X3 lens guards 😂

    • @EigenMoto
      @EigenMoto  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haha, yeah. You can take it another level up by spraying anti fog into the lens guard before applying, but at the moment, the method in my video has worked for me in 95% of my recordings so far. (there are still some moments where it might fog, but its so little and the situations where it does are very extreme, ie very very hot afternoons)

    I think the adhesive fixing is too porous & can let moisture in, if those lens guards were sealed with say silicone caulking it would be air-tight. When you install double glazed windows, you don’t see those misting up in between the glass.
    My mini 3 pro fogs up if I fly after it has rained, I keep it in humidity cabinet until I want to fly then wait until it’s climatized itself.
    I live in Thailand and maybe worse humidity than Singapore

    • @EigenMoto
      @EigenMoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hmm I actually suspected that as well. I will need to really test it out. So far I've only gotten fogging once since my re-installation and wasnt as common as the last time I tried. It happened after it rained and the sun was blazingly hot afterwards. Now I keep the camera in a dry box when I'm not using it.

    I have a X3 since yesterday (so im new to insta360) with cheap sticky guard from amazon and the stitching of your video with the sticky guards is better.

    Thanks for the video! I’ve been following the lens guard discussion for a while now and tested the insta360 ones, and I’ve come to the conclusion that lens guards aren’t worth it. I’ve seen so many people complain about it and getting unusable footage on facebook groups. So I decided to not use lens guards anymore as they affect the video quality in certain situations. I know it’s not a common decision and I got a lot of criticism for it, but if you want the best quality video, lens guards are no option. I’ve also read the comments here and it seems like your problem still occurs randomly? I would like to see more of your experience. Thanks!

      Hey man! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! No I don’t think its a controversial opinion to not get the lens protector. In fact I did try to get a refund for the first set I got because of how ineffective it was. I muddled up on signing up for the warranty so I can’t rely on support for replacements so I have to go with the protector on my end.
      Yes there is some fogging but so far, It has not ruined any of my footages so far for my motovlogs (ep 3 & 4 were taken after the re-installation) So Ive decided to keep it on. So far I think it only happens after using it in the rain which could mean that water is getting in through the porous sticky material. I placed it in the dry box after use every time now and it’s been good so far.

      Be aware, the two lens guards are different for front and back. They are glued on the housing of the camera and the curvature of the housing is slightly different for the front and the back. Can be, the stich line is more visible when you mount the front lens guard on the back side (and the back on the front). I have fogging problems when the camera becomes warmer than the outside air. (delete most X3 stuff due to low quality blur) I see you have a forward facing Action 4 on helmet, maybe install the X3 on back of helmet or rear of bike so your body protects the camera from flying debris. Would like to sell my X3 but keep hoping to find a use for it after spending 2X the cost vs DJI Action 4. X3 disappointment is the reason I didn't buy the insta360 Ace Pro. Not sure I will buy another insta360 product due to the X3 disappointment. Does fogg come after use of few days?

    • @EigenMoto
      @EigenMoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So from my previous application, the fog is immediate when under certain weather conditions. Ie outside is hot but the wind is blowing on the lens guard so the guard is cold so the misting happens on the lens guard.
      The only way to really test this out is to bring the insta360 out under different conditions to test.
      So far my new application has not fogged under
      - Sunny Mornings and Evenings
      - Rain
      - Night
      I've yet to test under the hot afternoon sun because it's been raining a lot of SG these past few weeks but I will be able to get a chance soon once the weather changes.

      Thanks for the experiments done to find out a solution for the foggy lens guard. I have done the same installation in a dehumided environment. I installed it in a rice box. The result is apparently good under normal use in a humid Hong Kong. I have tried to put it inside the fridge in different temperatures ranging from 2 to 10 degree Celsius for 15 to 20 mims. The result is all foggy up. When in -20 in the freezer for 2 minutes, it immediately fogged up. So you can test it in the fridge to further validate your findings. Perhaps my installation in the rice box is not the appropriate method.

      @@kslam5733 Ah good point, Let me run these tests next weekend to see if it happens. I think no matter how hard we try it can't be 100% dry. but the best results is that it stops fogging in maybe 85% of scenarios we put it through.
      This is probably something Insta360 has to fix in the X4. If they address it I will defo buy the next camera.

      @@EigenMoto If no fogging happens anymore in this frige test, your installation in silicon box could be established. In my test trials of the camera done over the past 4 months with the lens guard installed in normal room temperature and humidity, I only met 2 occasions of fogging. One happened when temperature was around 0 degree Celsius with sunshine on a snow mountain in Japan. Fogging happened immediately in the first minute of filming. The next fogging happened in Hong Kong when filming on a mountain top with cold wind blowing around, but temperature was around 15 degree Celsius. Since then it is very difficult to meet fogging again even with the normal installation (no dehumid process). The reason is that even there is 6 degree Celsius outdoor temperature in Hong Kong, it was strange that no fogging effect found. If put it inside the fridge in the same temperature, fogging must happen. The reason for that is the air circulation around the camera body speeds up the cooling of the temperature inside the lens guard. Therefore it is quite difficult to find fogging. More tests needed even after the fridge tests.

      You know, I kinda suspect that the seals of the lens guard or the camera itself may not be 100% air tight either. Which could be why there's such a variance in the results you're getting. Maybe putting the camera in a dry box might reduce the chances of fogging in general. We'll see!

    @eigenmoto this is so good i was looking for the same , let me tell you my experience with 6 dollars lens guard i had the same issue with sticting lens and foggy videos but i reached out to insta 360 customer care they told to turn on lens guard option but still i am unable to resolve this issue do you have any suggestions please

    • @EigenMoto
      @EigenMoto  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think I can only suggest going for a third party sticky lens guard (and risk the fogging) or just forgo the lens guards altogether. The 6 dollar lens guard is really horrible unfortunately and I've tried all sorts of configurations to get rid of the seams.

    You can purchase a Hygrometer fairly cheap. Many smart thermostats have these built in. You can monitor humidity prior to installation of your sticky lens. Ideally you want a humidity under 20% up around 30% and above you’re going to have a great deal of humidity trapped.
