With the cap on, the bottom of the camera is the “lens”. So if you want to show the sky, you would point the camera at the ground and have the camera bottom face the sky. Does that answer your question? If not check out my next video!
I'm not so bothered about me-mode, but I like to record footage at live gigs sometimes.. and realised in the front row recently that my digicam couldn't zoom out far enough to really see much of the guitarist who was stood right in front of me. So I got my iPhone 14 pro max out and recorded a wide angle shot with that.. and it was fun to then edit those together later. But I don't want both my hands tied up at a gig.. I need one free to throw in the air along with the band.. so insta360 x3 hanging on a necklace around my neck is what I'm going to try. I've got the normal lens covers fitted, so hopefully they do a good job in that regard
For footage of concerts I suggest insta360 Flow instead. X3 is too wide unless you want to emphasize the audience. Here is my review of Flow: th-cam.com/video/RJOJC7ONuK4/w-d-xo.html
Thanks. It's definitely good to know about, but I wouldn't trust holding my phone in the air on a gimbal at a concert I think. I have a Sony HX with a powerful zoom as my main handheld cam.. and really the Insta360 X3 is a secondary wide angle view I could cut to in the footage if needed. I bought the X3 already and have had it a few days, so I'll try it out this weekend :)
By telling us to activate tracking to simulate Me mode, do you mean use the post processing 'deep tracking' feature in the app? (insta360 Studio 2023 4.7.1).

Try that and let me know how it works for you.

Hi Derek. The single lens has two modes. In one mode, up to 4k, there is no horizon leveling. In the FOV+ mode up to 2.7k, it is similar to insv file and it has horizon leveling.
Hi, nice info Mic. I'm interested only in virtual tours. What do you think about the best photo quality with Insta360 X3 vs One RS 1" 360 vs Ricoh Z1 ?? Thanks
Hi Juan! Between those, I would get 1-inch or Z1. Z1 is sharper in the middle, while 1-inch is sharper at the edges. But if you really want good quality virtual tour, the best way is to use a DSLR, which takes a few more minutes to shoot, but is much faster to edit. When you use me mode you can use either 16:9 or 9:16. You can export at higher resolution if you want. For example 2560 x 1440. There won’t be additional detail but it will reduce TH-cam compression. I hope that answers your question.

So...following the 'inch RS 360' route, with tracking in lieu of 'Me Mode' ONE advantage is - the 'Me' can be 'YOU' or ANY other tracked person/object ANYWHERE in the 360 sphere! Right? Is the RAW HDR (inchRS360) definately inferior to the Active HDR on X3? (For this 'real-time stitched half imagery' aka MeMode vs. stitched and Tracked 360 on the TWINCH!) In Me Mode (PRESENTLY X3 only!) are the two recorded files ONLY of the TWO half frames or include the TWO FULL FRAMES?
Hey there Tonkabollocks! Great questions! Here are the answers: 1. Yes correct, with tracking, the subject can be anyone or anything. And you can switch subjects in the middle of the video. The disadvantage is that the tracking is only 99% reliable. Occasionally, if the subject changes too much in such a short time then the tracking might stop and you’ll have to restart tracking from that point. With x3 me mode, you don’t have to worry about that. 2. 1-inch 360 has no hdr video mode. X3 active hdr is for video not photo. So for high dynamic range video, x3 is better. Both 1-inch and X3 have hdr photo. For photos, 1-inch 360 is better. 3. Yes me mode only records half frames in the insv files. If I understand correctly, each side of the camera can record now in 4K individually, i.e. if insta360 wanted X3 it could record 360 video in 8K instead of 5.7K?
Hi Skyd34th. It can't because the 4K single lens mode is upscaled. Also 8K is four times higher than 4k, so even combining two 4K videos will not be enough for 8K.
Great review thanks for sharing! Would the me mode still work tracking you if the x3 was set on a tripod and you moved around physically in the frame? Like if you were filming yourself riding a bike, riding a horse, skateboarding, etc and wanted different views other than just POV?
Thanks Brian! Me mode is for capturing a 3rd person view like an invisible flying camera effect. If you want to put it on a tripod and set the tripod down, then have the video follow you as you move around, you should use the normal 360 mode. Then use the tracking feature as you suggested.

Thakns MidazTube! I recommend turning on Clarity Plus (in insta360 Studio), set sharpness to Low, and change the profile to Standard instead of Vivid. Those were the settings I used. Hi Benyamin. It depends on your reason for buying. If it's for image quality, I would say they are practically identical. The benefit of X3 over Max is convenience and features. hi Mic great coverage - it is marginally larger than X2 (33mm vs 29.8mm thick) and 1mm taller - will current X2 accessories - eg dive case - fit the X3? I note you say footage is marginally better than X2 - can you put a percentage on it -eg 10% better - and compare with RS 1" video quality too?
Thanks Mark. I would say the difference in image quality is so small that you cant tell but there are 3 exceptions: me mode is similar to 5.7k60 and active hdr is significantly better than hdr video and red dot flare is gone.
I wonder that too, having to buy all those accessories again for a new camera that's almost identical in form factor is a bit of a shame really. Reuseability would be more friendly to the users AND the climate. e.g. I can use the One X lens cap on the One X2. One of those is now a spare since I put my One X2 in a pouch, better for the lenses. Now I can eventually use that lens cap for the X3 when I'd buy it. What about the dive case? having to need a new quick reader pure for those extra 0.3mm seems completely a waste to me. Does the 72MP in photos make a difference in a VR headset is qomething I wonder about.
Thanks Mic, Pan; realised that the x2 dive case won't work as the record button is in a different place and there's no control for the new side fast menu. I suspect other cases/lens covers wont quite fit either. Love the x2 and there are some good improvements as you say Mic - red flare has spoiled many a shot! Active HDR also looks better.... Guess the RS 1" remains king of image quality. X3 also 20% heavier by at 180g.
48kHz sampling audio is HUGE in comparison to what they have had in the past. Currently wrestling with GoPro Max for a 360 course ... my students and I have been very underwhelmed with the workflow and end results in comparison to my Insta experiences.
Hey there Chris. Yes iirc they used to have 16khz. I think Max has very good image quality but the workflow might leave beginners frustrated, which saps their enthusiasm.
@@360vroomers Hi, thanks for quick reply. Sorry for not being specific, I was wondering in single lense mode as I have GoPro 10 but I wanna use my insta360 as a ‘one stop shop’ and since I record majority of videos with go pro in 4k60fps it would really be great if I could do similar footage (kind of flat footage) with insta360x3.
@@alensukaj4226 hi Alen. To have 4k non-360 reframed video without upscaling would require a 360 camera to capture 16k 360 video. But at the beginning of this video when I was at the skatepark, what did you think about that footage? That was the Me Mode at 1080p 60fps. It’s not as detailed as a Hero but it has a really cool 3rd person view. So you’ll have to decide if that trade-off is acceptable.
@@alensukaj4226 I think so too. Otoh the 3rd person view is definitely noticeable and looks very cool. That’s why personally I prefer to use a 360 camera and I’m not alone in that. If you look at social media, many EUC riders, esk8ers, and Onewheelers for example shoot with insta360 or GoPro max. I would say more than GoPro Hero.
Hey there David! For image quality, I think there's no need to switch. The only reason to switch would be the convenience -- like being able to edit your videos without having to download them to your phone. Or if you want one of the special effects ("Shot Labs"). Or if you want to vlog with an external microphone. Oh, also if you want to shoot Raw or HDR photos. For durability, Max's removable lens cover works well enough and it has decent water resistance and very good video quality.
I enjoy your channel and found this video informative. Also wondering: what is that safety body light you wore on the scooter at night? A link to it would be great.
Honestly... this is the best vid covering me mode that I have found. The available instruction on the camera settings is extremely lacking and this video clarifies a lot of the settings we want to know more about.
Thank you Mic. Another good one. Is the app editing features same/similar for this X3 and the 1 inch 360? I want the best quality image so the 1 inch 360 is what Im leaning towards. Is the difference in image quality ( reframed ) that much different between the 1 inch 360 and the X3?

can you shoot 1080p in 4k single lens mode. how long can you shoot in 4k single lens mode. Is it a better walk vlogging and travel vlogging camera compared to go pro hero 10
Hi Sid. In single lens mode, you can change the resolution to 1080p and shoot at up to 60fps. X3 is excellent for vlogging for several reasons. First, you can capture a 3rd person view, as if you have a cameraman following you. Second, it lets you shoot without aiming. You can focus on your adventure and not worry about "getting the shot". Third, you'll never miss anything. For example, you might be talking to the camera and suddenly something exciting happens. On a Hero 10[, it might be too late - you might miss the interesting thing. But with X3, you'll never miss a thing. The disadvantage of 360 cameras vs Hero 10 were: longer workflow (because you have to keyframe it) and being fragile. But Me Mode fixes both of those issues.

Ok I see. If you already have tele covered with the HX then yes the X3 could complement it very well.
By telling us to activate tracking to simulate Me mode, do you mean use the post processing 'deep tracking' feature in the app? (insta360 Studio 2023 4.7.1).
Hi Dale. Yes you can use either the tracking in the mobile app or the tracking in insta360 studio.
@@360vroomers I have not figured out how to activate it in the mobile app (can you describe?) and in studio the deep tracking does not work well and besides deep tracking does not allow key frames on top of it :(
I am trying to do this in 360 mode.
with Active HDR
@@DaleCKramer hi Dale. Tracking is normally quite robust. If it is not working well for you, it makes me wonder whether there are special circumstances such as low light. Have you tried shooting 360 active hdr on a selfie stick then tracking your entire body (not just your face or hand or a logo on your shirt)? Just make it short and simple first. Try that and let me know how it works for you.
Hi NIck, I need help, im new to the 360 cameras. I recently found out about the Dual fisheye for the Z1 and ive been using it to take DHR DNG photos. Does the single lens action camera mode have horizon leveling?
Here is a tutorial: th-cam.com/video/3hP_8eZTGiw/w-d-xo.html

What do you think about. Thanks
Yes dear but when we r editing and making 9:16 or 16:9 it goes down to 1080p only which is unusable on youtube. How u r managing that?
When you use me mode you can use either 16:9 or 9:16. You can export at higher resolution if you want. For example 2560 x 1440. There won’t be additional detail but it will reduce TH-cam compression. I hope that answers your question.
@@360vroomers me mode is resticted to 1080p isnt it? Secondly even one lens mode which is on paper 4K doesnt seem like 4K just try to compare d result with your smartphone as 4K video … Insta360 should upgrade to 6k atleast as its 360
@@smadeelibrahim yes me mode is limited to 1080p but in insta360 studio you can export at a higher resolution if you want to. As for 6k sensors, that would be great. For now the closest is the 1-inch 360 which produces the best quality video for consumer 360 cameras.

Love your vid! Great info! Had an X2 that I lost on a bike ride and upgraded to the new X3, much improved!
So...following the 'inch RS 360' route, with tracking in lieu of 'Me Mode' ONE advantage is
- the 'Me' can be 'YOU' or ANY other tracked person/object ANYWHERE in the 360 sphere! Right?
Is the RAW HDR (inchRS360) definately inferior to the Active HDR on X3? (For this 'real-time stitched half imagery' aka MeMode vs. stitched and Tracked 360 on the TWINCH!)
In Me Mode (PRESENTLY X3 only!) are the two recorded files ONLY of the TWO half frames or include the TWO FULL FRAMES?
Hey there Tonkabollocks! Great questions! Here are the answers:

@@360vroomers thx 😃

Accessories, are the x2 ones compatible? Mic adaptor, dive case, batteries etc
Most of them are different. The X2 lens protector might work. Not sure about dive case. Battery is different. Mic adaptor depends how new yours is.
hi Mic great coverage - it is marginally larger than X2 (33mm vs 29.8mm thick) and 1mm taller - will current X2 accessories - eg dive case - fit the X3?

Hi Allen. Do you mean in 360 video mode , reframed non-360 video, single lens mode, or another mode?
@@360vroomers Yea that is true, the video doesnt look bad at all tbh.
@@alensukaj4226 I think so too. Otoh the 3rd person view is definitely noticeable and looks very cool. That’s why personally I prefer to use a 360 camera and I’m not alone in that. interesting camera
Do you think it's worth changing from a Max to this one?
Cheers
Hey there David! For image quality, I think there's no need to switch. The only reason to switch would be the convenience -- like being able to edit your videos without having to download them to your phone. Or if you want one of the special effects ("Shot Labs"). Or if you want to vlog with an external microphone. Oh, also if you want to shoot Raw or HDR photos. For durability, Max's removable lens cover works well enough and it has decent water resistance and very good video quality.

can you shoot 1080p in 4k single lens mode.
how long can you shoot in 4k single lens mode.
Thanks for the help mate.

How do you change the USB mode?
360 cameras also overheat. I had to return my 360x3 two times to Best Buy because it kept overheated on long continuous recordings. I’m glad I got the warranty. Now I keep the time and heat in kind and I’ve had no problems. But it is something you need to be mindful of.
To avoid overheating, you need a fast micro sd card. Either: Sandisk extreme pro (red and black), Sandisk extreme (red and gold), insta360 brand or Amazon Basics micro SD card. Those are the ones ive found to work well.
You're my favorite 360 mad scientist!
Thanks! It helps to be a little crazy to come up with ideas! 😂
Good video from a real professional.
