March 21, 2023. I bought mine a few weeks ago for a cruise to Jamaica and the Panama Canal. Wow! Great camera. The 360 video playback are just like being there. In the towns I carried it over my shoulder. Reviewing the video I see everything that I missed. Like what was going on behind me or out of my usual sight. I post the still 360's on FB so everyone can see what I saw the spot I was standing. This camera seems to have endless options for a fixed lens camera. I have the 3 meter stick and a remote. Thanks to this camera I can relive my vacation as it happened in all directions.

I had an x3 for over 10 months now. I got it last winter just before the snow season. I mainly used it as an action camera for snowboarding and skateboarding. I have used it on hiking trip, its somewhat convenient for taking selfies with the group, altho the quality cannot match gopro or some better phones.
Imo, it works the best for actions, thats where this camera shines. Self filming on a snowboard made super easy, no need to worry about the camera angle, you can always get the right angle while editing. For skateboard videos, i have the 2-in-1 tripod stick. I set the camera in one spot, i can just skate different features around it, then edit the angle to follow myself. I also use it to film others doing lines, the stick allows me to put camera close to the skater, with the ultra wide angles i wont cut off the skater's head, the videos always turn out looking professional despite my zero filming skill. Super super forgiving filming action videos.
Have you scratched the lenses snowboarding? Do you wear lens protector?
@@4120306 i don't have a lens protector, but im planning to get one. A friend is using one with lens protector and it doesnt affect video the quality, or leave a line in the middle like some others claim. I would avoid using and bringing my x3 to the park if i plan to hit any boxes and rails, altho i used it on jumps.

I've been making living using pro photography and video gear for best part of 10years, always keeping up with new stuff. But this camera genuinely blows me away. From clunky matterport 5-6years ago to this little thing and the ease of use is just incredible.

I’ve been looking at these cameras to possibly get one for mountain biking this video helped, your video you’ve captured is awesome.
Got the X3 last month in time for our trip to Iceland. Have to say I agree with all your findings. The biggest bonus is being able to record everything and actually be “in the moment” with the family. Not staring at an iPhone screen or through a viewfinder meant I could appreciate the views as well! Felt sorry for the guy with a drone who want allowed to fly due to local restrictions as I was able to “fake” a drone shot of the geyser erupting!!

X3 is remarkable. What adds to this magical experience is the app! I have captured 360 stills for a decade. But, 360 video is absolutely mind blowing. Reframing is mind blowing. This has changed my experience of the world. There is so much more happening around, above, below, behind me as I travel through space. A walk is no longer just a walk. Awe is now a constant companion.
I've had the original X for 2 years now, and I am now looking forward to an X3 that I just ordered. I am really looking forward to being able to film some things with both cameras at the same time.

Got a feeling that this might be one of those toys I will use 2 times and let it catch dust on the shelf for years after. Especially if each file requires editing to make it watchable. Expensive investment if unless you really use it repeatedly and squeeze the value out of it.

You can enable direction lock and just render the clip and it will face the direction you put the entire duration. I have an updated video coming from my travels soon which is for…ye, beginners
I use mine for everything!! Its additive. Editing so the fun part!!! It’s very simple to edit.
I film electric skateboarding, kids on the trampoline, walked around with it at my sisters wedding and got better footage than the official videographer. You can do so many artistic shots with it. You will definitely use it!! Especially if you have kids or enjoy outdoor activities.
This is a fantastic motorcycle camera. If you’re a rider and want the best camera experience, this is it. It’s like the gold standard.
Doesn’t Instagram compress your 4k image down to 1080p? If so, I’m curious if exporting to 1080p then uploading to instagram reels would be beneficial or if there is no difference.

Not enough people show the computer app. 2 questions, when you select Proress and type in 4k resolution how do we know it is not just scaling it up? Can you type in 8k? If so it is probably scaling it up. Some of your footage has a very fisheye look (not talking about the crazy globe shots) and some of it doesn't. How does one avoid the fisheye look?

Hey man great video, explains a lot! Im planning to get one and use it primarily for skiing/snowboarding. Conditions are always super bright with the snow and sun. I see you can put the shutter speed to 60 for example for natural motion blur on 30fps filming. BUT, my question is, won't the exposure be way to bright? You can not use ND filters for this camera right? Do you have tips how you would handle this. Thanks in advance!
I bought one for my cycling videos and love it. Not fully up to speed with editing yet, I seem to have a mental block on the framing but I'll get there soon enough.

We're right in the middle of a revolution in photography and videography. Just wait until the next generation DJI drones come out and have 360 style features built in! Add in all the crazy new stuff we're going to see available by using AI and things are set to change immensely in just the next few years. I'm really looking forward to what we're going to see in the next ten years!
Thank you so much for demonstrating the Studio application! Editing only on my phone is driving me CRAZY! Yes, it is a very good editing app, and pretty easy to use, but it drives me nuts that I have to connect to the camera with WiFi while I'm editing. It makes using some of the editing features, like adding sound or other elements that are downloaded from the web, very difficult. Especially on a phone with limited memory space of its own.
Insta360 sells a 360 drone kit I believe 😃 but for sure!

Great review. Got the X3 and love it especially for my motorcycle filming as I don’t have to think about composing the shot. I place the X3 wherever I want and that’s it (Remote control is recommanded). However, I confirm 100% what you said and I want to emphasise: It’s a great COMPLEMENTARY camera, because … having those « whaoo » shots doesn’t make a film… As soon as you reframe and zoom in to avoid this wide angle & fisheye effect, you lose quality and it does not compete any actioncam. I went to New York only bringing the X3 as I though it would be the best place for awesome shots (and it was ) but during editing, I realised that I should have bring another more conventional camera, because X3 images , even on single lens mode, are too much « X3 looking » and can be boring if a film is only made of it (even used in a more conventional way). It’s a fantastic tool which will improve any film with spectacular views, but in my opinion and experience, it’s a topping on your ice cream, not the ice cream itself. (And using only a 360 camera mean a HUGE time to work the rushes in postproduction).

I think if you have a GoPro/Action 2-3/Insta360 ONE RS and the X3 you have a nice travel setup. I would add the GO 2 tho as the extra cherry just cus of its head mount (Makes me use this over the Action 2)
@@RobHK I had the Action 3 and sometimes the X3 on the helmet, but it was quite heavy when I ride all day. I bought a second hand Action 2 mainly for the helmet and I use only the camera module. It’s much better. I considered the Go2 but having mainly DJI sensors (except the X3) gives me a more harmonised image and facilitate my editing.
Yeah i wouldn´t put it on my helmet tho. I think i´ll mainly be using the GoPro on the helmet to start with and then change to A2 or GO2 later to see how that is. And also the X3 mounted different places on the bike.

I think having it as a complementary or not depends. If you're a pro vídeo maker you would need other câmeras and not x3 at all. For me the x3 replaced it all and I don't have to care about other cameras, I just use my phone for some other images as the quality is better. High quality images are not the most important most of the cases. Ideas make great images.

I picked up one of these just last week for recording my motorcycle rides. It is amazing to capture EVERYTHING and not have to worry if the camera is tilted correctly. This thing is amazing. I despise having to edit the videos (I'd rather be riding) so I've used the "Auto" edit feature in the phone app to make shortened videos and it has worked well enough for now. I'm sure in time I'll get to use the desktop app. Thanks for all the tips!

I really like this camera, but in all the sample videos I see that the video lags. :( I mostly using Osmo Action cam 2 and 3 with 30+ fps and those are aweome on my MTB ride. 2:03 However, the movement here is not very fast. So I have doubts that I won't regret it.
Are your recommended setting for instagram the same for Facebook?
This looks great. Can you suggest the best settings for running a marathon bearing in mind having to stop mid stream is not really an option? Should mention I like to film what is going on in front and around me not looking at me. Great video, thank you for posting

The video is kept on the sd card and you can transfer the oroginal yes. But even when editing the clip in the app and export a smaller part, the video will still be in its whole and you can later go back to the same clip and just remove key frames or tracking etc👍
3m has no buttons. But you can use the insta360 remote controller which is perfect for this
After owning 3 versions of GoPro. My current GoPro8 got wet and has no more screen but still works. This X3 is attracting my attention.
Very helpful video. I had no idea how to start,....One thing I wish someone would address is the hardware and settings that are being used to edit in Insta360 Studio 2023. I cannot edit 360 X3 videos at all. Maybe you can send me your hardware setup? Thanks

I used the 3m stick on all shots almost👍 only beginning had the 2 smaller

For me shooting on and off, 1 battery lasts for almost a day👌
But when shooting longer videos like time lapses and 2-3 minutes for the creative shot lab, i would recommend having at least 2 if this is something you’ll be doing a lot.
Also a small pocket sized power bank does the job👌

Recently bought an x3 and would like to know how you can join clips together with transitions either in the app or the desktop editors, is it possible if so HOW?
I am considering buying and spent hours researching and your video is the only one that answered my questions. First the reframe export quality. Your many minutes long village tour at the start is "gold". It really shows the quality of the exported video and I am very happy with your results. I was struggling to find really good clip examples that were longer than a few seconds. My second question was I am struggling with the world moving to two different aspect rations of TH-cam and TikTok and really been wanting a camera that I can shoot once with and export both outputs...and your video is the only one that has clearly demonstrated that to me. When I buy I will use your links... just waiting to see what the Go 3 announcement on June 27 is all about first. ha One question (if you are still reading, ha)... do you think this has the quality to also be your main "sitting at the desk, talking into lens" camera? or the quality of traditional dedicated 4k camera is so much better?
Desk sitting, you will need a lot of light. But you can use the single lens mode instead which will be a better fit👍
Also the go 3 and the x3 is to completely different cameras

Go 3... yes, different use cases! 90% the X3 fits my needs. Saw a youtuber comment saying they think the new Go will have a bubble lense also, like half of a 360. And I wonder if thats true AND they jam more pixels into that one lens, will it meet my needs? Wont know till I see it. thanks again.

One thing to add - while editing via viewfinder, iPhone users get an access to rotate the video via gyroscope of the phone while Android users has to manually rotate the video. The gyro doesn't work on rotation. I found this recently
Thanks! Especially for the guidance on the long selfie stick. I was wondering if the extra $75 for the long one was worth it.
I have had the OneX 2 and One X, but all the Insta360 cameras have a gap in the footage every half hour, including the X3, so I just use the Qoocam 8k now. If anyone is trying to film concerts or bike rides over 30 minutes, the holes in the footage are a real pain. The Qoocam has overheating problems, but is not a problem in Norway.
good video, but don't tell people to change the export to 4k! you're looking to a small peace of a 5,7k video (so your real result is 1080p). if you change it to 4k, the software try to export a 1080p in 4k witch means you lose 4 times of your image quality (when working in other software afterwards. the videofile than is 4k but the real resolution is still 1080p so the software had to stretch every pixel by a factor of 4.

I got it for More than 2 months and i use it often for filming hiking and biking… and to do drone shots, if drones Are forbidden. Very Good camera wich needs time to learn and think in 360. Cool Video …

What was the size of your ProRes video. I don’t export large ProRes files , which I notice thee quality between my GoPro hero 11 and instagram 360 are night and day. The 360 has way more functionality than go pro, but my go pro not in ProRes is way better quality form end to end on the screen. 360 seems to be only sharp and clear in the center of the frame and really soft on the edges. Has to be the export in ProRes. I will give it a try once and see if it helps. I use my MacBook Pro with 360 and so far haven’t been impressed with video quality on 4k export. Although your video looks nice and crisp.
I just bought one of these for my motorcycle trips for me and my family to watch later. The biggest issue I have had is getting footage off sd card and getting it on external hard drive. Also I bought the insta card reader because I read that its compatible with iPad Pro but its not, the only way to connect to my iPad Pro is Wi-Fi witch is a really slow way to download videos off of the sd card. I would love a video surrounding these type of issues and fixes.

Nothing to worry about. I’m always bringing 2-3 drones and have never encountered anything.
What you would want to do is register and pop the registration number on your drone. This is required in most countries anyways tho, but if you’re stopped at least you have everything in order.
Also make sure you follow the regulations of Hawaii👍

Thank you for such a thorough and easy to understand review of the X3. I have one of the original insta360 One R cameras which I don’t really use. I’m planning on buying the X3 so I can add some 360 video in an easier to use format for my motorbike. The battery on the original OneR is pretty poor at around 30mins. Thats why I don’t tend to use it because it needs to be powered on the bike. I believe this X3 has a far longer battery life, which is why I’m justifying buying it!

Good info! In their computer app, is there a filter that corrects for the fisheye distortion when "zoomed out"?
No, you would need the plugin for premiere/after effect for that I believe. Only way is to zoom in, but then quality gets worse
Did you try the options directly in the keyframe-window? (when adding or editing a keyframe) There is a "natural" option.
How do you merge serveral insta360 clips together? Are you exporting them from studio and start a new project in other program? I know there's a plugin for premiere pro, but I'm searching for some other options. Thanks for all the other tips :)

More than good enough! Just lower the bit rate to 50 if you’re uploading to ig,tiktok or shorts. It will save you some space and make the export faster 👍

Needs some major changes in manual. Overall, X3 is not for low light.

On the phone, with your 2 fingers. On the computer, with a trackpad and pinch to zoom with the fingers or with the scroll wheel on a mouse

Other thing is that in iOS the app allows to set the amount of colour plus, while I'm Android you can only turn it on either off. You cannot control the amount of colour in it

I often vlog in lower light situations and like the options a 360 camera brings. But because of the light sensitivity I'm thinking about getting an Osmo action 4. I can't afford both, what would you choose?
I was using an Osmo action 1, but it died 😢 do you know how these 3 (Osmo 1 / 4 and the X3) compair in low light conditions?

@@RobHK you threw me in a whole other 2 days of research rabbit hole 😅 it looks a bit better in low licht, but not much better then the Osmo 4... And I edit using DaVinci Resolve so the log an 10 bit are a nice to have... Also Osmo 4 at my local store is 319 and the ace 479 (Euro) knowing that, would you still choose the Ace over the Osmo 4?
I saw the X3 low light performance compaired to the Osmo... no X3 for me 🤣

did you use a warp post stab??? your videos after export are veeery smooth.. like in 50/60 fps. how is it possible???? I have 1 inch version and problem with smoothness... I export to 25 fps, 4k too like you

I can’t achieve such video quality on my X3, I went through all the settings, but the quality is very frustrating. The color is very nice on your video. How did you paint it like that? My picture is loose and crumbles all over. I bought X3 yesterday and was a little upset about the quality of the video, but I watched your video and now I don't know what to do to get a picture of this quality.

i have a 360 oneX. You think its worth the upgrade? The problem i dont like is taking pictures...you have to be absolutely still or you get a blur

My only concern is the image quality, especially with shots where you have very dark and very light elements. How does it compare to a gopro? Because my use-case is to take it when paragliding. I love the idea to not have to frame my shot when flying, but at the same time I've a lot of occasion where I might get the sun in face and still want to have some details in the shadow?
Active Hdr or isolated exposure does the job🤙 ive been doing a hectic travel with the X3 now in Hawaii, hiking every day for hours. Video will drop tomorrow!

While chatting with a DJI clerk, he kept telling me it's better to get a standard action cam (like his company's own Osmo Action) instead of a 360, because with the latter I would have to worry about editing. I still bought a 360 x3, and boy was I glad I didn't listen to that guy. Snap editing raw 360 footage is stupid easy.
I have found that the video footage is terrible when zoomed into objects more than around 9 meters away (e.g. full body shot of a person). The only way I have found to get around this is to record in single-lens mode, which then doesn't allow me to do any zooming or tracking when edited in the Insta360 app.
when you use app the clip is on the phone or still on the sd card in camera? Ask because my phone has only 32 gb internal memory
On the sd, but exporting is happening to your phone.
