    Technically not a mechanical keyboard, but they're generally categorised together, and this is a high grade keyboard for typist's. The RK RC930 mimics the Topre keyboards, by using clone Topre switches. So it's not as good quality, but at the same time is cheaper.
    Note : I did use this for a few weeks on and off, and repacked it to show the unboxing.
    Sound test is at 7:57
    Big thanks to Banggood.com for the keyboard.

    This keyboard is the ONLY one with Niz 55g switch, which is awesome. Topre/HHKB 45g is a even bit harder than this one, this one is perfect. Unfortunately now Niz only offers 45g and 30g switchs today...

    i have the Plum 87. it also has a non-detachable cable. but is there any way of removing the case and replacing the usb cable with one of my own? i don't know how it is attached on the inside so it might not be possible

    hi i'm using the second edition of this keyboard (...slightly... different font, and traslucent case of the switches) since one year ago and i agree with you that the typing experience is superior than the original topre (i own one) , but as this is a very subjective matter, this can not be a rule for everyone
    one thing quite bad are the double-pcb and their poor connections. yeah, mine is dark at the moment as one of the cable connections detached from the pcb, so no power for the leds. to be fair i opened it a lot of times, and as it's necessary to detach the pcb, or unscrew the second one, i strongly recommend to use the second way, the connectors are very weak.
    btw the experience can vary substantially with different keycaps, as for every keyboard, but maybe with this one a bit more

    • @TaeKeyboards
      @TaeKeyboards  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your input. Yeh I had a closer look at the PCB, and some areas didn't look so great.

  • @edu6672
    @edu6672 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't know if you've done a video explaining the "gamery font", but what I've understood they make them like that, because the material would just drop off the keycap if you would cut a circle/hole on like there is in letters such as B, R, O. Can't confirm this is true, but I've heard about it a few times at least.

    • @TaeKeyboards
      @TaeKeyboards  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, that's absolutely why there's the bridging of the plastic. Although this keyboard still has the 'gamery' font.
      This is quite an old video, and I've now come across many other keyboards with these double shot keycaps, although not with this type of font.
      However, it is possible to do it without the gaps :)

    • @edu6672
      @edu6672 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea yea, I reckon it is cheaper to do it w/the plastic bridging. And yeah the font would still be the same :P poor verbal construction from me on the original comment. Love how you still responded :-D

    • @dalriada842
      @dalriada842 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      By the looks of that font, the purpose seems to be to reduce reject rates in manufacturing, during the double-shot process. Otherwise there would more likely be insufficient fill of the counters, in letters like B. They're more forgivable on keyboards at bargain basement prices, than with this board.

    • @TaeKeyboards
      @TaeKeyboards  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks :) Yeh it's unfortunate. I get that it's a cheaper board of this type, but it's still heaps expensive, so they should have done better.

    I wonder about boards with these types of switches.They seem to always be quite expensive. Is this actually due to cost of manufacture? I feel like Cherry or Cherry-style keyswitches would have a higher cost for manufacturing.

      The rubber used for the rubber domes is higher quality than in normal rubber domes, and costs more, but the biggest factor is the pcb, it costs significantly more to fabricate compared to a normal one cause you can't just solder the switches in, they need to activate electro-capacitively. And the fact that it's a very niche product certainly doesn't help bringing the price down.

    This makes me think of a Keytronics board I have. Foam and foil, with a rubber dome on top, right under the keycaps. It's garbage. Though it is 25 years old and has been in an attic for 17 years or so.

    • @dalriada842
      @dalriada842 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rubber may have deteriorated from 17 years of heat cycling, in the attic. I used to have a Keytronic Ergoforce keyboard, which I absolutely loved! I gave it away because I got a computer without PS2 ports. I wasn't aware of the existence of active converters at the time, or I'd still be using it. Mine felt in mint condition when I gave it away a few years ago. It had a snappy tactile feel to it.

    The font looks like that because the key caps are doubleshots, so you can't have loops in the font, otherwise you'd lose the inner little 'island' pieces (like the little triangle inside A or the circle inside O, etc). That's why pretty much all double shot keycaps are looking like that and that has nothing to do with being made for gaming or typing.

      @offbrandbiscuit 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Uses a PCB, not a membrane sheet. This “rubber dome = membrane” fucktard mentality needs to stop. Topre/NiZ use the electrocapacitive design that uses a conical spring over a rubber dome, which allows for partway actuation similar to Cherry MX switches, meaning unlike a $10 dome-over-membrane design you won’t need to bottom out to register keypress.

      That's not a bad budget board, but the Qisan is hardly in the same league in my opinion. I own them both, and have multiple Gateron boards. I can say first hand the switches in the RK 930 at 55g is a much more enjoyable typing experience. Not to mention that eletro-capacitive switches have a much faster response time than Cherry/Gateron. Maybe when you step up your game and join the big boy club, you can start to judge quality.

      " I can say first hand the switches in the RK 930 at 55g is a much more enjoyable typing experience." No clickiness, no enjoyable typing experience.
      "Not to mention that eletro-capacitive switches have a much faster response time than Cherry/Gateron." Even if that was true, who cares?
      "Maybe when you step up your game and join the big boy club, you can start to judge quality."
      Ah, so you need to be an elitist to judge quality. *Lol*
      Quality is meeting the requirements, simple as that and no matter how much money you spend on a basic imput device as a keyboard it ain't gonna change.

    • @towatchvids
      @towatchvids 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Red Phoenix
      Right, so I'm the "Elitist" when this moron decided to say this keyboard is "shit," without knowing shit about it? This board is high quality, and for the $100 this board costs, it gives a typing experience better than boards twice it's cost easily. It's also fully multi-layer programmable, and you can switch the layout and make the caps lock function as the ctrl key like on the HHKB. It's also the cheapest electro-cap board with mx-cherry key cap compatibility, and RGB. So if you don't know shit about the board, don't try and be an elitist yourself and say it's bad, that was my point. Especially if you're only judging it from the perspective of your crap Magicforce entry level board, or a Logitech. Royal Kludge is made by Plum, which has been around forever.

  • @babyybatter
    @babyybatter 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    so it's just a normal keyboard but with stupid switches? nothing special at all? software locks full rgb spectrum? doesn't have a numb pad? hard to find custom key caps that fit? $140?
    keyboard companies should stop just making normal keyboards because there are thousands of them. At least make something new and unique like at least macro kets or something. This keyboard is just an overpriced, downgraded office keyboard.
