  • This was a fun build! Shortly after I got this boat, I realized it could be tough to operate if the wind and current was ripping. And if I was to rent this to people, I felt it should be more fun and less work.
    Now that I know the build was a success, I'll soon have a cool new, easy to operate boat for a family to rent. And like I mention in the video, I might just get another for those that aren't afraid to get a workout. Because, really, the Monaco DLX wasn't that bad right outta the box.
    My thanks to Pelican for the good deal on the boat
    www.pelicanspo...
    And many thanks to Coleman. The lil outboard is doing great!
    www.colemanpow...
    And, of course to Scotty, for your continued support.
    scotty.com/rod-...
    Last, but not least, Thank you to everyone who has contributed towards the creation of Zoffinger's. Patrons, renters and watchers of my videos all help make this possible!

I guess we can add water craft modification to his ability. I truly love watching his ideas come to life. He has the ability to make home made look better than factory!!!! When using 5200 use isopropyl alcohol to get the extra off! Regular rubbing alcohol the stuff you buy at Walmart Pharmacy for 99 cents a pint will take 5200 off of the work, tools and hands before the 5200 sets up. After 5200 sets up nothing will take it off except a saw.

    My friend I feel that the electric trolling motor was the best setup. It was convenient you had full control of the motor without stretching and it looked very comfortable for you and your friend to fish from. I wish I had your skills. I don't know if you measure or plan these projects or if you just wing it. All I can say is my hat is off to you nice job I would love to have something like this for my own use. Not only that but you are very entertaining to watch. Your are a TH-cam treasure my friend.

    Put on an electric but leave the peddle part attached instead of taking paddles along. Two ways to drive the boat because that's the only way some people can burn calories is sitting down. Very cool build though, good job! I have a hard time walking due to back problems and a drop foot. I would love to have one of those paddle boats for exercise while fishing.

    Well, you asked for opinions, so....
    Yeah, being in the rental business like you are, I think it's important to give customers choices of things they can choose from, and I think an additional pedal boat would go over great.
    When I was a kid, we ran the crap outta those things at summer camp, and you were saying how familys needed more choices of boats with more capacity, which this does.
    If mom & dad are out on kayaks, then the kids can pedal around on this, and the parents won't be worried about the kid's safety in onna these things. Plus it's just good, clean, fun way for kids to burn off energy!!
    Hope the business is doing well, and keep these videos coming!

    I agree some comments below; electric is the way to go. If a customer comes into your shop to rent the paddle boat (with motor) and is new to the water, even a small gas outboard could be a problem waiting to happen. A electric trolling motor with the right amount of thrust to move the paddle boat around at decent amount speed for a beginner or novice boater is the safest choice for you :-)

    Another one for the electric motor. Something a bit beefier than the first one you used and it looks like there maybe room for another battery there too. It seemed a much more pleasant way of getting around than the noisy petrol motor, a much more peaceful journey that suited the surroundings, which are beautiful. Don't even need to be fishing, just take youself out and appreciate the water in relative quiet. Plus you can hear the music!
    Good channel, thanks!

  • @TheTurtlee1

    I think I would have tried to build the motor mount on the front of the Monaco. You would need ballast in the back, but that is manageable with several ideas, perhaps a battery to run electronics or lights for the boat. Maybe even the gas motor could be modified to run the prop "backwards" so the tiller handle would be facing the passengers. The controls would be right there and the starter cord would be in easy reach. Would you consider giving it a go?
    I have a thesis regarding trim: with the motor on the front, the torque of the motor will tend to lift the front slightly, but it can't enough to make it head over heels.

    I was a machinist for 35 years. I guess I still am a machinist although I don't cut metal professionally anymore, or any other material for that matter. What I wanted to say was this , you need to get a bandsaw. They don't cost a lot but in certain situations they work a lot better than what you are using. Okay just thought I'd drop that. Love the videos, can't wait to see how this ex- pedal boat works!

  • @tbirdracefan
    @tbirdracefan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I have seen those pedal boats modified with a cheap, tiller controlled trolling motor. The shaft is cut down so that it replaces the original steering control. The original rudder is connected to the new trolling motor shaft. The paddle wheel remains intact. You still have a completely operational pedal boat but with a twist of the throttle of the trolling motor it will go faster than two people can pedal on a sprint.

    Found this exact same boat without the motor of course, at the bottom of the lake. Me and my buddy attached para cord to it with our yaks and it took us hours of thinking and finally a pulley system to pull it out. Then after 7 hours of pulling it we finally get it to the truck. Then it takes us another hour or two to fit the two seater kayaks and this huge paddle boat in my short wide bed lol. Good times.

      a 24V 110# thrust mincota would put in some work on that boat. 2 deep cycle 850CCA batteries pushes/pulls my 17ft fiberglass bass boat for 12 to 13 hours. I hardly ever need it on high though. at most with a bass boat you only need to go 2mph when trolling down bank. Kick it on high when I need to move a short distance but dont want to use the gas engine. Moves my boat about 11mph on high.

    Make it more of a "mid-engine" boat where the engine is mounted right behind the seats, eliminating the need to sit so far forward. Also, incorporate a steering lever that is centered in the boat at arms length that moves side-to-side with cables mounted in the tunnel.

      @@Biowolf626 Yes, but if you have a decent battery that can provide duration for the motor, then you'll be able to slow down the drain output slightly with solar panels. Example, if we got a battery that could provide us 1 hour of full throttle with the motor, then with the help of solar panels, we could add on more minutes to the power lifetime. Also when not using the power, you'll very slowly but still charge your batteries, unless you hook up bunch of 12 volt stuff to the boat like stereo and shit.

I'd love one of these with a high-thrust electric trolling motor and the convenience mods you added, like rod holders, pad eyes, paddle holders, anti-skid tape, etc. Only thing you did not add that I would want is a dedicated cooler space. I like to take two coolers when I got fishing, a small one for drinks and snacks, and one for fish. I'd figure out where to add some space the coolers, and that is all I would differently. If I was to ever make it down your way and rent from you, I'd want to try this one out. IMO, it seems like a great way to fish your river.

    @megapix-x51 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've always envied people that can seemingly fabricate anything. What talent! It was fun to watch it come together. The outboard would definitely be more fun but the electric probably more practical ( maybe twin batteries). anyway, keep'em coming!

    You should use a motor retention cable. It hooks onto a metal piece on the motor and connects to a second hard point on the boat.

    I just bought this boat and am going to Macgyver a 46 lb trolling motor to the bow ... I want to keep the Peddle power , just in case I need Exercise .... but it would be nice to make the pedals removable to clear the foot space , and put them back on when needed . Maybe a cotter pin and pipe might work ... I'm picking up tips from your mods though ... Cheers !
