Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I would suggest sanding it first before painting, I got a little impatient. The shelves th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM8H4CjCb79vzeyvgaFMdzmLm88oVFPMkare pretty small so keep that in mind if you're going to have it horizontal that some books won't fit. I like the snug look that it has. Good small shelf if you don't have much space, but not too small. Simple to put together, though you'll need your own tools, a screwdriver and a mallet/hammer, it's easiest to do with another person.
I love your stop motion work, but this one is by far the best one that I've seen. Its not often that you have an opportunity to chuckle at a character in a woodworking videos, especially when the characters are clamps and bookcase base pieces. And the ending was perfect. Thank you for sharing your creative gift with us.
Not only a beautiful stop motion, but a beautiful set of book cases and a beautiful book being beautifully ready to your children. Awesome video. Thanks a million, Frank!
My favorite part of this video, is you reading the Chronicles of Narnia to your kids. Great wood working as always, but starting your kids off with Narnia will make them into amazing adults.
What sorcery is this! This is amazing! Building the bookshelves were hard enough, but to do the entire thing using stop motion, and add cool synchronization! Epic! Well done sir! Liked, subscribed and shared!
This is brilliant. i've watched many woodworkers on youtube, but you're the only one i subscribe to. This reminds me of the educational tv-shows I saw as a kid, where learning was seen as entertainment in and of itself. It's insane to me that we make such a partition between education and pleasure in western societies. I adore the animal qualities you find in all your clamps and machines. I'm also impressed how you manage to juggle making stop motion film while doing big complicated glue-ups and projects such as these. Hats off!
Frank you really should be sending these videos to a TV company, that was superb, I laughed out loud at the herd of leg components. Brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
This brings a smile to my face! Thanks Frank :-) The cases are awesome and I didn't get where you were going with your proportions until you dropped that center support! I will be borrowing this heavily someday ;-)
I had been thinking of attaching steel bar to the back and front of the middle shelf for support. in the end I went with a center support in a dado in the underside of the shelf. it's not attached and if I want to adjust the shelf I can make a new support piece.
frank howarth I doubt you will ever need it since you have the upper area for really long items. It's really well done, again, thanks for taking the time to share that with us!
I just found this seven years after the fact. Unlike so many things on TH-cam, this has aged very well. Nice video, most excellent editing and story telling.....and (IMHO) an excellent choice to read to the kids at the end.
As beautiful as the finished bookcases are, they take backseat to the incredible filmography of the process. Always enjoy your videos Frank, my hat is off to you.
Frank, I hope you get to see this. You have some amazing skills, story telling, animation, story telling, wood working, and did I mention story telling. Watching your video was a very funny and pleasent ending to a rather rough day. Thanks for reminding this old soldier to relax, smile and remember why we do what we do.
I don't know what I like best. Your story telling, your crafting skills, your beautiful book cases, your filming skills, your creativity. This is so awesome, thanks for sharing!
That's one of the best editings I've ever seen on youtube. For sure you sir, are one of the best and deserve an attention. Have a good day and keep on doing it cause you're doing enormously well!
thank you frank, i watch these videos every morning with my daughter and they have inspired me to finish some woodworking projects around the house as well.
Frank, as a former woodworker/furniture maker now teacher and forever a lover of books and films, this video was a real treat and a real blessing to me! Thanks for sharing, thanks for being an excellent woodworker and visual storyteller. This was awesome!
What in the world was that? Why would someone go to allll of that trouble for that video? It was an absolute masterpiece, even without the terrifically designed and built book cases. Is this one of those cases where "he has the skill, mindset and ability, so he made something great"? Because if it is, he needs to teach those kids how to be like him, then he needs to teach the rest of us!
Hello Frank, Thank you for this video. My son is nearly 4 years old now, and for the past year every time I watch youtube in our living room he asks for that video where the cases move by themselves :) I also like the animation here. And to say everything in it. You're great source of inspiration, Thank you! And greetings from Finland!
I love your work Frank. I know how long it takes to make one of my videos, which are crummy compared to yours. I can't imagine the amount of time it takes to make a video as wonderful as the stop motions you make. You are an artist in both mediums, Woodworking and Videography. Thank you for educating and entertaining. Regards, Bob
I saw some Dr. Seuss in there. Fun fact, I collect Seuss books and actually have one of his personal paintings tattooed on my arm. Anyways, another amazing video!!!
I'm a book lover and enjoy making woodwork projects myself. It's a pleasure to watch you put a lot of care in making these bookcases. The narrative of the books and animation are so cool. Please keep posting.
Genius, absolute genius. I look forward to seeing your films and am disappointed when there isn't one for a while. Please keep it up Frank and 'THANKS FOR WATCHIN'
*THIS VIDEO MADE MY DAY!* XDD I don't share much, but *this must be shared.* Love the double meaning of the title. Love the analogies, unbelievably funny & instructive. Rated: _"Genius LOL"_
as someone who enjoys woodworking and videography/editing, and a lover of stop motion animation, i can wholeheartedly say this is a *truly* amazing piece of art.
Mr Howarth, I have to say, this is my favorite video of your extensive collection. Not sure if its just me or what, but it seems as though you captured attitude and emotion into the videos participants. I love it. Absolutely awesome as usual. Amazing skill and vision. Thank you for allowing us unskilled at woodworking folk to live vicariously through you.
Love these stop motion woodworking videos and as far as I'm concerned, all the other woodworking guys that try stop motion are imitators of your work. I know how much work is involved in these and I appreciate your efforts very much Frank. Great stuff.
Frank, this is awesome! I have been a woodworker for 45 years, this is a great teaching tool. I recently made a video of "The Making Of" a crib that I designed and built for my daughter-in-law but I never thought of doing stop motion.
Ah, I find myself unable to stop watching. Incredibly neat and entertaining. Huge thumbs up to the creator and to their great patients in filming a video such as this.
Great video. Our grand kids, 3 & 5, just love them. My grand daughter now has all my power tools memorized by heart and can't wait to use them some day.
I am subscribed to about 70 different channels, half of them woodworking, half other things. Your videos are by far the videos I look forward to watching the most, and I always save them for last.
Not a typical how-to-make-a-bookshelf video. Creepy at the first 2 secs but hey, I wanna see more already. I like the tools that moves like leech and the sound it makes when it moves. Watched it twice. Just wow
Holly shit! This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen on TH-cam! As a professional video editor, I suddenly want to be a woodworker now! Just Amazing!
Frank, you are a reat wood worer, movie maker and most of all a great Dad, I loved the project and the video, and was that by chance one of my favorite books, C.S. Lewis's The Lion the witch and the Wardrobe. thanks for shareing all your hard work with us
Frank, Just incredible. Funny how your story telling and animation could take the focus off your outstanding woodworking. I can't imagine the work that goes into this. The squeaky clamps moving across the table (and the noises they make of course) are always a favorite. Loved the stampede of bookcase feet and so much more. When I looked at the length of the video I couldn't believe it was only 7 minutes. Seemed like seconds. I can't wait to watch it with my grandbabies. They will giggle through the whole thing.
step 1: Try to comprehend how much work went into making, not just the book shelves, but this video as well. step 2: Feel grateful that someone took the time and effort to do this. step 3: Pause video every time it shows books on woodworking. step 4: bookdepository :)
I was watching some of your vidoes with my 2 yr old Noah sat on my lap. This one auto played and Noah LOVED it. He was clapping giggling and laughing out loud. Thank you so much for this.
Thank you for the beautiful content and the joy your work and your films bring to me. In a time of growing unease (and even foreboding at times when I look at the country I live in), your videos seem to help as an antidote. Again, THANK YOU!
Fits well into my space, I painted the back green. It's very easy to customize just the back if that's something you want to do. I don't understand how someone couldn't like this. It's fantastic!
People are strange
This is not only great woodworking but awesome film making. You need to enter this in some contests!
I got a headache by just imagining the time you spent making this brilliant video
haha
You are awesome! :D Loved it! also love all of your video! :D
No, really, how long did you spend on this????
No matter how much I watch your videos, I find that I still haven't seen them all. Thanks for sharing your brilliant hobbies with us.
I love your stop motion work, but this one is by far the best one that I've seen. Its not often that you have an opportunity to chuckle at a character in a woodworking videos, especially when the characters are clamps and bookcase base pieces. And the ending was perfect. Oh my god! Love the walnut herd!
Jaw-dropping video Frank!
I can never tell which you like more, making the project, or the video. Both were amazing as usual. Thanks.
Thank goodness for folks like Frank. My 4 year old son loves these videos, and I have had a few binge watching sessions myself.
Those stop motion videos are beyond excellent. Never seen anything like this. Great craftsmanship, coupled with beautifull takes, scene by scene.
Thanks
***** You're probably correct. We have traditional wood working combined with traditional special effects. Thats why it is so good :D
This might be the best thing I've ever seen on TH-cam. Mr. Howarth, you are the Wes Andersen of woodworking, and I love you for it.
What sorcery is this! This is amazing! Building the bookshelves were hard enough, but to do the entire thing using stop motion, and add cool synchronization! Epic! Well done sir! Liked, subscribed and shared!
Thanks!
This is definitely my favorite Frank Howarth video...possibly my favorite woodworking video ever!
This is truly a masterly piece of art - both of construction and cinematography! Thanks for caring enough to do things right.
Hello Frank, thanks for the time you spend making videos so we can enjoy.Keep spending time with your kids they will always remember it.
Amazing !
Frank thanks for making the stop motion videos. My 4 year old daughter loves them and is helping me bond with her as we watch together. Thanks again.
This is brilliant. i've watched many woodworkers on youtube, but you're the only one i subscribe to. +Arash Arfazadeh Thanks!
I agree
+Arash Arfazadeh Well said!
Frank you really should be sending these videos to a TV company, that was superb, I laughed out loud at the herd of leg components. Brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
Wow.. that was amazing. In woodworking and animation. In the end reading for the kids was really kind Thank you very much for sharing
Thanks you Frank. I've watched this video over and over with my kids!
How can there be 51 dislikes, this is one of the greatest videos of 2014, and one of the all time great woodworking videos!
I agree. A lot of jealous folk I guess.
Theres always some asshole. Society is full of them
this is the pinnacle of cinematography in woodworking!
All hail to Frank!
It inspires me more to get myself a Canon 5DMark3 and 18-35mm, 105mm lens!
Dude your editing skills are awesome, I love watching your videos, they are so unique, thanks for taking the time to do them, subscribed!
+Rubber Duc Thanks
Woodwork, animation, and "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe?" Three of my favourite things! I am loving your videos!
This brings a smile to my face! Thanks Frank :-)
The cases are awesome and I didn't get where you were going with your proportions until you dropped that center support! I will be borrowing this heavily someday ;-)
I had been thinking of attaching steel bar to the back and front of the middle shelf for support. in the end I went with a center support in a dado in the underside of the shelf. it's not attached and if I want to adjust the shelf I can make a new support piece.
Yeah I really liked this.
frank howarth
I doubt you will ever need it since you have the upper area for really long items. It's really well done, again, thanks for taking the time to share that with us!
I just found this seven years after the fact. Unlike so many things on TH-cam, this has aged very well. Nice video, most excellent editing and story telling.....and (IMHO) an excellent choice to read to the kids at the end.
Frank, have you ever thought about doing a video on some of your editing and animation tips/techniques. They're amazing, i've no idea how you do it!
Yes, I'd love to see your process!
me too
As beautiful as the finished bookcases are, they take backseat to the incredible filmography of the process.
Always enjoy your videos Frank, my hat is off to you.
Great story Frank.
Hi Kids
You have one very clever Dad, he has some amazing skills.
Thank him for sharing with us all.
Look after him

Frank,
I hope you get to see this. You have some amazing skills, story telling, animation, story telling, wood working, and did I mention story telling. Watching your video was a very funny and pleasent ending to a rather rough day. Thanks for reminding this old soldier to relax, smile and remember why we do what we do.
Just one word for this video: BRILLIANT!!!!
Only thing that amazes me more that your woodworking skills is your video production. Don't get me started about your shop !
This deserves a Best of TH-cam nomination. Well done Frank.
I don't know what I like best. Your story telling, your crafting skills, your beautiful book cases, your filming skills, your creativity. This is so awesome, thanks for sharing!

You're a woodworking god! I'm glad we have the technology for you to share your talents with the rest of us.
This is big time awesome. Just like watching a Disney production.
Frank, you are cool man!!!
thank you frank, i watch these videos every morning with my daughter and they have inspired me to finish some woodworking projects around the house as well.
i think that's your best animated movie ever. Really good ideas behind animation and sound editing. Really good job! And nice furniture too!
Frank, as a former woodworker/furniture maker now teacher and forever a lover of books and films, this video was a real treat and a real blessing to me! Thanks for sharing, thanks for being an excellent woodworker and visual storyteller. This was awesome!
That was fantastic! I wouldn't usually criticize you on anything to do with your shop or home but I think it may be time to lube those books!
This is absolutely incredible. The craftsmanship from the woodworking shown off by the whimsy of stop-motion.
What in the world was that?
Why would someone go to allll of that trouble for that video?
It was an absolute masterpiece, even without the terrifically designed and built book cases.

Totally agree!!! Genius work!
This blew me away when I saw it.
This is possibly my favorite of Frank's videos. It's brilliant, informative and lots of fun. Thank you.
I saw some Dr. Seuss in there. Fun fact, I collect Seuss books and actually have one of his personal paintings tattooed on my arm. Anyways, another amazing video!!!
I nominate this video as woodworking video of the year! Love it!
Drunken Woodworker
yeah, I agree!!!!
And today is Dr. Seuss' birthday!
The stars have aligned!
I'm a book lover and enjoy making woodwork projects myself. It's a pleasure to watch you put a lot of care in making these bookcases. The narrative of the books and animation are so cool.
Please keep posting.

"Throw out fifty things. Clear the clutter. Find your life" Ha ha love it! Who needs to throw anything out?? Just make more shelves! :-)
Frank, this is awesome! I have been a woodworker for 45 years, this is a great teaching tool. I recently made a video of "The Making Of" a crib that I designed and built for my daughter-in-law but I never thought of doing stop motion.
You just get better and better.
Brilliant work Frank. Reminds me of eastern European animation from the 70's. Beautiful bookcases too. An around joy. Thank you
After watching this many times, I finally paid attention to what you were reading. Is that "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe"?
Yes.
:0
Great work Frank. The animation reminded me of 70's eastern European oddities. Beautiful bookcases too. An all round joy. Thank you
man frank these videos are great !
thankyou!
Ah, I find myself unable to stop watching. Incredibly neat and entertaining. Huge thumbs up to the creator and to their great patients in filming a video such as this.

This may be the best woodworking video in existence.
Like magic frank!
Frank, you're the man. You give me hope for humanity.
This video is friggin beautiful!

I think you anyone will love woodworking after watching your videos. Magnificent work.
This is the most delightful woodworking video on youtube.
I sure hope you enjoy making these videos as much as I enjoy watching them. Thank you so much!!
Well done again, Frank! I like the mixture of woodworking and kids books together .Squeak on.
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is an excellent choice to read to the kids! Awesome work and video!
