    the little box on the air intake is a “muffler” it quiets some of the extra sound that the new air intake produces in an attempt to keep cars less loud from what i understand

  • @Texas12valve
    @Texas12valve 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That little box on the intake system is basically just a resonator, to help quiet down the induction noise.

  • @andrewgold7110
    @andrewgold7110 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It is a helmholtz resonator. As others have stated it is used to cut down on intake noise, either droning or high pitch whistling. the shape and size is usually designed to reduce specific frequencies. I have worked for Audi for a long time, most of our intake hoses have a resonator somewhere in the line.

  • @donalddarbonne779
    @donalddarbonne779 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The box serves as a noise reducer and helps in instant torque. The bigger volume of pre filtered air you have. The betterinstant power you have when mashing the throttle

    A cold air intake won’t help you out a lot unless you do something about your exhaust system. Inhale improves but exhale is still restricted.

  • @grantkenyon3407
    @grantkenyon3407 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe the box on the intake is basically a Helmholtz resonator. Like one of the other commenters said, it acts as a “muffler”. Basically as air passes by it, the air inside the little box resonates at a specific frequency, that frequency is used to cancel out a frequency they were most likely having trouble with during NVH tuning (noise vibration and harshness).

    I have no idea why they would ever go to those screws on the air intake. It seems like they listen to everyone on what they want to see on the new jeeps, except 2 door truck. Maybe cause they knew people are going to change it out. Also if you remove the inner front fenders on JT you should be able to run 37s with no lift.

  • @rileycarelock4306

    opt for a 3.5 in. suspension lift, the full kit (everything, meaning all of the suspension components that compliments a full 3.5 in. suspension lift)!!! As for tyres go for 33.0 in. or maximum 35.0!!! DO NOT GO FOR 37.0 in. under any circumstances unless ur doing the Rain Forest Challenge in S E Asia!!! trust me on this my friend!!!

  • @ES-lh1tj
    @ES-lh1tj 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love your videos and information... but it seems people need a tutorial on the workings of a gas combustion engine in regards to a CAI - In the simplest terms in this order, the engine needs air, then gas which is ignited - all at the right proportions while expelling gases efficiently out of the engine. If any of those things are not addressed at the same time you will not make power (more) efficiently.
    A CAI will do virtually nothing on its own except push lots of cold air into your engine where it’ll go to waste. The engine needs to meet the increase in cold air with more gas, which means you have to ignite it bigger and faster (better plugs, wires and distributor). Then you need to get rid of the gases. That requires a better exhaust (headers and muffler). Then the engine has to be tuned so all these additions work together (tuner/programmer). In general, none of these performance parts on its own will make more power. An engine is a complete system thus changing one piece messes up the rest of the system. Want a CAI? Then also add better plugs, wires and distributer, coils, headers, muffler and a tuner/programmer. Do all of this and then you’ll see gains.
    On my 2011 Jeep Rubicon 3.8, I added a Volant CAI, RIPP plugs and wires and RIPP headers. I run 37’s with 5:13’s. All together, using 93 octane, on the dyno, the additions made 50 extra HP at the rear wheels. Power expanded throughout the rpm range which was great. I saw an increase in gas mileage from 15.2 to 17.9 at 70mph on flat highways. For me, the additions were worth it. It's a totally new driving experience. And no, I don't represent RIPP. Hope this helps.

    I’m in the market for a new Jeep, if you didn’t have the JKU and you didn’t have the gladiator, which one would you choose?
    I’m southern ca resident, brother has the JLUR I love it but when going camping I see spaces can be tight, we don’t do anything insane rock crawling wise just basic fire trails up in big bear and other trails here and there
    Brother is saying going with JLUR so we can do more technical trails like Moab and rubicon
    Short term end goal for me is obvious lift tires (probably be going straight to 37s) it will be rubicon either way and start saving for Dana 60s long term once the 44s give out
    I’ll also be asking wayalife and trail recon the same
    Hope to see on trail some time !!! Keep up the good work

      It depends what you want to get out of the Jeep. The JT is a better all around vehicle I feel, especially if you need a truck. The JL is a better Jeep. Honestly it comes down to what you need, do you need a truck? Or just like the look?

      JK Gear and Gadgets don’t really need a truck have ram 2500, love the thought of being able tow my boat naked to the lake (Jeep obviously lol).
      I meant to say I was trying to decided between the (JLUR OR GLADIATOR RUBICON)
      I love the look of the gladiator, love the look of JLUR just on fence, no rush just curious on your thoughts, thank you for replying

      Alex Zickefoose if you already have a ram then I say go for the JL

      Alex Zickefoose are you keeping the ram? Or trading it in for a Jeep?

    • @dailyexplorer413

      JK Gear and Gadgets my dad wants the ram I’ll be giving it to him, still can use it whenever I need, but I also have a 94 ram 3500 cummins in great shape I’m keepin that regardless

    I did the same intake on my gladiator... Love the sound! But what do you think about riding through water with that big mouth on top? worried?

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just don’t go fast, it’s around the same height as factory. So going though water slowly will be safe. I stay away from deep water since it causes a ton of other issues as well.

    I thought it would be fun to mount this AFE system but Amazon says two months to ship. Was this your experience?

      @JKGearandGadgets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Holy cow! No, I got it in the normal 2 days.. maybe they are sold out and awaiting more?

      @@JKGearandGadgets Maybe you created a run on the product. Awesome influence. I'm reasonably confident people are often looking for a simple, if not easy, way to make their Wranglers sound a bit more "throaty". This AFE product may help. I also tried this Dynomax Exhaust featured by Eddy over at WAYOLIFE: th-cam.com/video/YPWUCExCR5Y/w-d-xo.html
