Definitely agree with you, the 86 is such a great car out of the factory. I really don't have the urge to go out and modify for no reason. Although I do think an exhaust upgrade is necessary haha.
Exoticars19 Whenever someone tells me "re sell value" I smh. Why would you buy a car if you're planning on selling it? unless you're a dealer I can't understand why...
i'm gonna mod mine when i get it later this month, but i think that if it's your car, do whatever you want to it. it doesn't need justification, just as long as you like it.
Honestly the only thing I want to do to my FRS is better tires, new headlights, window tint, and maybe new calipers. I love everything about this car stock. It's fun as hell to drive as soon as you leave the dealer.
Great video, I too also plan on buying a BRZ and will leave it completely stock, my previous car was completely modified and heres why I wouldn't do it again: 1. Price, these parts are expensive and whats worse is the labour costs (even if you plan on doing it most your self, the tools required won't be cheap or the time taken). 2. Re-sale value, added from point 1.... All of it is wasted, so many people think "Oh I spent $10k on my car therefore I can sell my car for 10k more", the reality is - you have a seriously tiny niche audience once the car is modified.. It also scares potential buyers because 'Its a modified car, its obviously been thrashed its whole life". 3. Addiction. Seriously, this is a bad one. First you start off with an Exhaust .. Which leads to an intake .. Headers.. Full tune ... Then the wheels.. New rims.. Tyres.. suspension.. breaks.. disks.. pads... etc etc it does not STOP. There is ALWAYS a mod you can get. 4. N/A Cars cost a LOT to push performance (mix between point 1 and 3), if you want serious gains - You need to go forced induction.. Forget N/A the gains for the money you spent is laughable. 5. Insurance .. Once your car is heavily modified, your insurance costs begin to cost a lot more and most of the time you'll have to switch insurance companies because not all support modified cars and if you don't tell your insurance company about your car being modded then when you get into an accident (even if it aint your fault) chances are they won't cover you. 6. Fuel efficiency which is a pretty good aspect of the BRZ. It's one of the reasons I sold my RX8 .. When you mod your car and tune it, you worsen your fuel economy. 7. Attention. Heaps of mods and stickers/loud-exhaust attracts attention, whether its kids on the street telling you to "FLOOR IT BRO", or teenagers driving their civics trying to race you, police targeting you. 8. It ruins the detail of the originality of the car. The BRZ was tested by Subaru/Toyota the way it is, the car was designed by top leading engineers and is one of the best reviewed cars out there - why would you want to go around and mess that up with 3rd party adding and what not. 9. RELIABILITY. This is probably the second most important point - When you start to mod your car, you start to hamper the reliability of your car, tuning your car with 3rd party headers/exhaust/camshafts bla bla.. 10. Warranty - if the car is still under warranty, 99% chance that it will void it if you start to throw on 3rd party mods.
I'm gonna drive mine into the ground. Hence turbo kit, wheels, suspension, clutch, tail lights. I have no intention of selling it, it's a toy. I bought it so i wouldn't buy another bike. I like the style, love the handling and with turbo it's just enough extra fun than stock to keep me happy. It's a project car for me. I've still spent less on it than a stock 370Z.
Totally agree! Bought one myself a few months ago, it's great, not thinking at all about modding. Great to see that you still enjoy it, I'd like to keep mine for a long time as well.
All the FRS/BRZ needs if you plan on tracking the car are wider wheels with stickier tires, better brake pads, and maybe coilovers. All of this can easily be removed if you plan to sell.
I've got a BRZ too, I answered all my mates with the exact same answer. And I've seen too many auto BRZ's/86's (which should be illegal punishable by street execution), which pretty much all have mods to compensate inability to drive manual.
To be honest I totally agree with you. Even on my FRS I just upgraded my headlights to HIDS, rebadge, drop in and duck wing spoiler and jdm corners and I'm done modding the car.
The best thing on earth was to lower my frs with TRD lowering springs. I daily drive it and only scraped lightly twice in three years. Never ever bottomed out speed bumps are not a problem. It is a well thought of and balanced ride height. Best thing I ever did. Thrust me do it! Lowers one inch. Cheap too
I had a 89 Presude with 4 wheel steering. It was 20 when I bought it, and I feel like it was extremely low miles. It wasn’t that fast, but handled well, and was a joy to drive. I had to get some work done, for a week they loaned me an Eclipse GT V6 hard top. Didn’t like. Climbed back into my Prelude and it was like a comfy pair of old shoes. It fit right. I want a BRZ it is a Sports car like my Prelude. Smal Car, light weight, ample engine, and built to drive. Just workin on the finances. The Corvette isn’t a sports cat it is a Performance car.
I agree with your viewpoints. I've owned a BRZ for 2 years now and I've only added Whiteline bushings and just recently switched to a Flex Fuel tune. Still completely stock suspension, wheels and tires. It really does just boil down to personal preference and the needs of the driver. I also daily my BRZ and I think that the stock setup is completely suited to my basic commuting needs.
Absolutely agree. You could mod the car all day long and you're still not going to win at drag races or track days, so what's the point? The car, stock, has all the performance and handling it needs to be fun to drive.
I also got a brand new 2015 "frs" back in November. Agree that we should enjoy the free warranty we get. I spoke to my dealership and they said that any modifications like turbo, intake, even exhaust will void it. The only way it won't is if I get the TRD brand and they install it. I think at least you should modify the outside of the car. Rims/lights will make it look nice. I live in NY so lowering my car even further as a daily driver, I refuse to do. Definitely think about doing outside modifications to make it look a nicer. Eventually I would like to boost up the hp but nothing crazy
got to do what makes you happy. i dont mess with my daily cars. the rest are just toys. still you have to take into account what you want it to do and how much you are willing to spend.
I got to be honest as someone who bought and built a 450kw track monster 86 for one of our local drivers , when we were in the process of buying the car we looked for the cheapest car with reasonable mileage that was *BONE STOCK* even something with basic mods like lights was cut out. The reason is you can't tell if the previous person who owned the car was a hack e.g bunch of stripped bolts, cross threading, dodgy wiring jobs etc. These problems will only show when you start to work on it and it's just a massive pain to deal with. This doesn't mean don't modify your BRZ/86 just when it comes time to sell to make as much money as possible return as most mechanical mods as you can stock. Little things can be left on but for the most part return to stock.
Consider MTEC shift springs to make the shifter more positive. $30, and a very easy install. Beyond that, maybe a TRD quick shifter to make the throws shorter (with the shift springs, the shifter becomes even more mechanical).
Some people mod cars for performance and other build for aesthetics. I'm with you with this as you mention this is your "daily driven" vehicle. Though the car is mod friendly, its really tempting to do something for that opportunity lol
I won't argue that this car is a great platform for modifications, it is! But it drives just the way I like it and there's nothing I can think of that would make it look any better. Love it how it is :)
haha!! My modification plans are really long and drawn out. I will only replace parts when they're nearing their end of life. But I will upgrade parts on my BRZ as I see fit. I've upgrade the engine oil, transmission fluid, and differential fluid to synthetic. I've just replaced my tires to Michelin A/S 3+. And I will probably be upgrading the suspension to Bilstein B6 + STI springs when I hit around 80k.
I live in CA. I told them that I'll put down 15k only if they would do the whole body kit suspension and exhaust with my ELD.Roots Supercharger & AfterMarket Rims and Tires maybe that's why. anyways I'm thinking of getting it blue and replacing the hood with carbon fiber black. plus I'm going to remove the whole back seat put the cross bar in than have the back seat area Fiberglass for show but really to house a JL Audio 13w7 with the JL Amp. we're I would sit. the sub will be were your back goes. & the rest of the Car speakers will be Focals K series, I'm not worried about resale because when I do this I plan on keeping the Car. I also plan on buying the Chevy Volt 2017 all by next yeAr July this will tAke place. I can't wait. once done I will send u a video. of the BRZ and it's cool because it comes from the Factory with Bembo Brakes.
Well said dude. If i want more hp, i will go buy plenty of cars out there; Muastang, S5, you name it and keep it stock and it will hold resale value when you get bored with it.
Nice to see this kinda video. Just a question out of curiosity: can modded cars be normally insured in the US? Where I live most companies only allow small mods like changing the wheels, muffler and some cosmetic mods.
I talked with the dealership and they said if I buy from them they will install the TRD package & the Edelbrock Roots Supercharger at the Factory & be able to keep the service free still.
Resale is garbage for any vehicle. After just two years my car had lost $8,000 for private sale and around $13,000 for trade-in with low miles, practically like-new condition, and basically stock. Now that the newest 86 has a ton more features the original cars are going to be even cheaper. I saw the same with my 05 STI. Mods don't matter unless they're so far from stock that they shrink the potential buyer market. My STI, with just an intake didn't sell any worse than stock vehicles on AutoTrader. Just keep your stock parts and don't do anything drastic. There's plenty to dislike abou the 86 as an owner, especially as a new parent. No steering wheel controls (buh buh simplicity! Well the 2017 now has controls so that's BS), huge torque dip with stock fueling and header, no aero and the car gets floaty much above 100mph, cheap head unit and stock speakers, crickets anyone?, direct injector failure is common, stock header sounds like crap, LOL leg room in the back seat, honestly the back seat is basically pointless and you have to be a contortionist to get anything in and out back there, no factory turbo option... I could go on, but it IS a fun car to drive and fairly easy to mod. There are just far too many shortcomings and BS cost-saving compromises made with the early cars to be a total fanboy over it. I enjoy driving mine, but it's so annoying to climb in and out of and put my 2-year-old son into that I'll probably sell it for a pickup or go back to an STI. They should have made it a tad longer with four doors.
ImBackMan123 Suits me fine for SCCA runs and SoCal canyon runs. For general every day use, it has far more shortcomings than you seem willing to admit. I'll probably sell mine, but if Subaru ever gets around to making a genuine turbo'd BRZ STI I might be willing to deal with the daily driver shortcomings after trading in. The 2017 is a much better deal than previous models and blows away all the fanboy (doesn't need steering wheel controls) BS.
the Candyman I've been over it. Haven't sold the car yet. I'm just a realist about it's shortcomings. It's easy to go on TH-cam and spew a line of BS about how wonderful a vehicle is, failing to mention major factors that might turn off potential buyers. Better to be critical of every vehicle and continue to push manufacturers to keep kicking their designs to the next level. We wouldn't have a BRZ if no ever complained about there being no RWD boxer in Subaru's lineup. That said, if you want a reasonably priced sportscar with fantastic handling, decent power, and a beautifully-sculpted body, the BRZ is a great choice. If you want to build a RWD time attack car, it's a great starting platform. That's why I bought mine. Wasn't expecting to start a family at the time.
You definitely make a good point and so does Zach. I definitely agree with the 2 year old, you should probably go back to the STI. Definitely a great fun car with a bit more utility. I almost bought a WRX instead of my FRS but I have a Jeep Cherokee XJ for the winters here and I'd just end up modding the WRX to the point where it was worthless in the snow due to high power and lowness. I decided I wanted a dedicated winter vehicle (which I already had) and a dedicated summer fun canyon ripper that I can modify without fear of un-driveability, and the FRS does that absolutely perfectly.
ashermerkabah Funny thing is now that he's in a forward-facing car seat someone could probably sit in the passenger seat with some leg room. Rear-facing the passenger had their forehead almost touching the front window.
I don't know for sure about the BRZ but since the 86/FR-S are the same car, and Toyota won't void your warranty at all for using the TRD mods, maybe Subaru would stand by that as well? TRD offers a quick shifter (my personal go-to mod for a lot of manuals), lowering springs, sway bars, wheels, and catback exhaust. I'm getting a 2017 Toyota 86 soon and I'm for sure getting the quick shifter and the exhaust, I'll have to test the stock suspension before I consider the springs and sway bars.
Not worth getting the Toyota 86 this year compare to what Subaru offers. Both have Premium build which lacked in interior beauty imo and you'll get it cheaper from Subaru with the same build
You could always keep the stock parts, if you modify. Then when you're trying to sell the cars put the stock parts back on. Put the modifications up for sale in the HUGE aftermarket of the 86. Granted, it won't be ALL your money back but it's practically back to square one.
Suspension mods are pretty much required for these cars I feel, they look like SUVs when they're stock. Got Eibach coilovers on my 86, they massively improve looks, make it tighter in the bends, and have had virtually no effect on comfort.
Thankfully I bought my frs used, and it came with a straight pipe exhaust without headers (not sure what brand) I drove it back to back with a stock, newer model year frs and it really had a smoother power band. Definitely feel you on not getting your money back. I'm pretty reluctant about doing anything else besides wheels and tires.
I may eventually put an exhaust on my BRZ but I'm not going to lower it because it's already low enough. I'm definitely opposed to turbos if I can help it unless the vehicle already has a turbo from the factory.
I'm gonna keep my 17 BRZ stock until the free stuff expires and then throw a new exhaust on her, a ls2 or 2jZ, a new tune, headers, and possibly a supercharger
I have the FRS and I felt this way too in the beginning but I eventually changed the exhaust and wheels/tires. It just didn't give the car justice in my opinion
Gotta agree as modding your car does indeed devalue it as you gain nothing in return. It may be worth it if you keep the car for more than 10 years but 5 years? nah. Good luck selling mod cars as that's one hell of a niche market.
Probably since most if not all the wide body 86's require you to cut the fenders in order to properly install them. They look great but I'd only do it if you plan on keeping the car for yourself forever. I'm guessing 20 years down the road these will be like 240sx's though, so if you keep it clean and nice for that long, drift tax will kick in and it will be worth a mountain of cash. Just don't let it rust out or anything like that.
I had to take my exhaust and my wheels and my wing off my FRS when I traded it in because they were gonna give me way less. Luckily I kept all the stock stuff lol. Not I got a GT86 GT!
the anology of resale makes sense for a honda civic if a buyer is looking at an frs brz gt86 they are already wanting a sports car. so with that being said the car itself narrows down your audience plus parts will increase the value considering most sport car enthusiants want bang for their buck
Nobody's gonna want to buy your clapped out BRZ when they can get a stock one. Firstly the point of custom is that it's tailored to YOU, so any buyer is naturally going to have different tastes than you. Buying stock, they know exactly what's in the car and that the parts are meant to work together then mod it themselves.
Kind of my dilemna - sell it now since its stock and get something else (E46 M3, new Supra etc) or put $$$$ into susp, exhaust, headers, tune, tires etc. I still love driving it and compared to my F80 M3 which is a LOT faster, BRZ is still more fun to drive. It has that magic about it that you can't see on a spec sheet.
Well said, the BRZ is so enjoyable the way it is. If business goes well, my goal is to keep the BRZ stock and get a fun 2nd car down the road with some power!
Iam a purist too , i can't buy a car if their is any aftermarket parts on it even if the mods were removed , all the original parts need to be there. I already refused to buy a cobalt ss supercharged because of somes mods : trifecta tuned , exhaust , aftermarket radio , custom tail light , chevy logo was removed , custom headlight
Haha, that's how it starts! Get the headers and you see one with some nice wheels and a small drop with aftermarket springs and you're like hmmmm....then it snowballs.
Buying a car like this with the intention of selling it, is a concept that I cannot understand. If it is just transportation and youre worried about resell value, buy a typical economy car. Buy a fun car to have fun with it imo. Being half into the car scene or culture is a waste if you ask me.
But I am having fun with it the way it is. That is why I said I do not plan to sell it. All I said was IF you decided to sell, you'd lose more money with mods than without. It's fun transportation that I'm worried about. If I wanted a "typical economy car" I would've bought one. To each his own I suppose.
1) cost money a. plenty of cheap aftermarket for the BRZ 2) You don't get the money back a. put back stock parts b. put back stock tune c. sell parts d. sell car 3) I agree 4) stock suspension a. I think coil overs completely change the cars look and feel but ur opinion 5)enjoy the way it is a. I think anyone can agree some new tires, a header + exaughst and a tune will make the car 1000 times better. total would cost you MAX 2k and very simple modifications almost anyone can do. if you want to resell, sell the parts, return to stock, sell the car. why would you purchase a car knowing you're going to sell it? that's ridiculous in my opinion. it's ur car do what you want but the stock car is not perfect, no car is. I'm seriously telling you some big new tires, headers, exaughst, and a tune will completely change the car and IMO unlock it's full potential. I would add coilovers too but maybe not in ur situation. You get rid of the torque dip and add significant torque and hp gains that really liven up the car. fairly simple to do everything yourself or with a buddy.
But he said it was his daily driver. Tq dip and it's "potential" is irrelevent. He enjoys the car stock. Will he enjoy the car modded, probably. But he enjoys it as-is and that's that. He's not tracking it, he's doesn't seem to want to break 100s with it on a regular basis, he's not throwing it in a stance battle. It's his stock daily driver. And that's a perfectly legitimate use of the car. If it the specs weren't fine, then it would have been put out with better stock specs at base trim. (Save breakthrough imrovements, which aren't common to mass-market vehicles)
Miguel Loeza if you know anyone with a shop trying buying an accident one from auction. got my 2016 frs with 1035km for 9k. all said and done cars on the road for 13k
I bought mine with 14k miles used, it is a 2013, for 19k. My payments on it are $350 a month and I have pretty good insurance and multi-car discount through progressive so my payment comes to about $50 for full coverage on my FRS. So total payments is only $400/mo. Oh and it came with an extended 6yr/100,000 mile warranty, bumper to bumper.
That's usually fine and even looked at as a selling point to a lot of people. Generally if it's still under warranty it will still be covered, and definitely if installed by the dealership. TRD also makes wheels, suspension and you can even get a Five Axis body kit, and it would all be covered by warranty. The TRD exhaust isn't very loud, so it would make the average Joe feel better that they bought a sweet sports car because it sounds better than completely stock.
HAHA, I love how you ended your reply with "I have Michelin SuperSports". The car does great in the rain, oh btw, I have pretty much the best tires anyone makes for any car. That's great. To add my little piece, it does do decent in the wet if you're not trying to get sideways. If you ARE trying to get sideways, prepare for a smile that will extend past your ears!
But I do agree about what you said. My friend has a BRZ and the only thing he has done is a catback, unequal length headers, and a tune and that's the only thing he is doing and he loves it because its not very loud at all
Yeah I know it's not really a popular idea to keep a car (especially a BRZ) stock. That's why I made this video, to clear why I personally am not doing anything to it. In short, I'd just rather spend that money on a second car down the road.
Yea but also my friend with him coming from a NA Miata the BRZ being so quiet that he was close to falling asleep sometimes on the highway which us why he also did some of those modifications.
idk but ik those are some rich ass house in the area lol. Frs/Brz good the way they are. Ppl that complain about power & hight they got the wrong car for the wrong reason thats about it they deserve a slap... js...
You're comparing a modified car to a smokers car, seriously?...that is a horrible comparison! Go buy your mods, do what you want. Cars depreciate no matter what, who cares, do what you want. Keep it clean, thats what matters! Stay stock, stay boring lol
I'm actually looking for an FRS right now, but I *don't* want a modded one. I'm looking for a bone stock one so that I can do the mods I want, *myself*. And I don't want to deal with selling someone else's parts. Nor do I wan them to tack the cost of reversion onto the price of the car itself. So much easier and less headache to just get one that's been kept stock and maintained well. I'm sure it's nice to throw money around and just "get a fast car" but if that's what I wanted to do, then I wouldn't get this car for that. I can get a different car that's stock, but faster than this one is modded. (That was one of the points in the video). So, yes and no. If the buyer isn't looking to do their own work on the car, but they want it modded, then modding it is good. If they want to DIY, or use different parts, or to keep it stock, then a modded one isn't going to grab them. How well it sells is the number of people in each respective category (DIYers vs Money Throwers)
Well if you do watch the video, you will see that I am not against modding the BRZ in general, but this video is about why I personally don't want to. "Exterior Mods bro" Umm, no thanks. I don't want to drive a sheep in wolves clothing to try impressing other, I like the way it looks now anyways. And I "deserve" anything I buy. Thanks for the input anyways...
Exoticars19 I was just kidding man, at least you drive it! One of the 30 in my country is my neighbor and its parked throughout the year. If I would've told you this in real life you would know I was joking but you can't really see my face expression on the internet anyway I think an ft86 is already a wolf and there are tons of people rocking nice exterior mods without touching the engine. It's not like it's a mk 4 golf it's already a sports car that will beat most cars on the freeway a lot of people don't understand that
I'm Kind of late to this video, but my opinion matters dammit. Come on dude, At the very least, get your windows tinted. Like my opinion, Tint Matter! Really, it's a must. Fuck everything else, These care ARE dope as is. But come on..... Tint.
Tint is the first thing I ever did to any car I've ever had. Not only is it good for you but for your cars interior as well. Seeing as how the BRZ and FRS both have lots of grayish plastic pieces it helps preserve its color over time without the sun fading it.
Also I have the same warranty, modifying the car doesn't void the warranty. I made sure of that before paying the extra $1900 for the warranty. Lowering the car actually improves the steering response, meatier tires improve the horrible grip of the stock Prius tires. It's a car literally built for tuners... and you can always get your money back. You keep stock parts and if you choose to sell the car you put the car back to stock and sell all the aftermarket parts. This whole video just made no sense
Oh no, you unsubscribed? What ever will I do? TH-cam is all I got! *sarcastic voice* Okay, where do I start... If my car were 1cm lower It would scrape on my driveway (I already scrape when I back out straight) I don't track this car or anything along those lines, just windy road cruising which the cheap stock tires do without any problems, as for any other mods, in my personal case I don't feel it's worth it even if I get my money back (which wouldn't happen) it's not worth the time & hassle for me. Put this into perspective for me Trevor, in this video I stressed that this is why I am not modifying my personal car for my own reasons. This video is not agains mods in general. So you're literally getting upset because of my own preferences. Kinda childish...
Excellent mind set, make your car what you want, not what others like👍🏼
Definitely agree with you, the 86 is such a great car out of the factory. I really don't have the urge to go out and modify for no reason. Although I do think an exhaust upgrade is necessary haha.
My thoughts exactly, the day the BRZ stops being a joy to drive, is the day I'll get rid of it, not mod it. But that's just not happening!
you talk about re sale value, do you plan on selling the vehicle in the next few years? i recently bought my brz and i plan on keeping it long term.
Exoticars19
Whenever someone tells me "re sell value" I smh. Why would you buy a car if you're planning on selling it? unless you're a dealer I can't understand why...
What's a Nissan 3007?
So you're saying 2017 gt86 is better than 2017 brz?
i'm gonna mod mine when i get it later this month, but i think that if it's your car, do whatever you want to it. it doesn't need justification, just as long as you like it.
Harrison Stokes same ima super charge mine super excited for it
Did you get it?
Honestly the only thing I want to do to my FRS is better tires, new headlights, window tint, and maybe new calipers. I love everything about this car stock. It's fun as hell to drive as soon as you leave the dealer.
It's no worry that you want to be stock and normal. It's what makes unique cars really stand out from the common man.
That's why you put it back to stock, sell parts and car.
RogueBRZ yes exactly
RogueBRZ
Agreed this was dumb. It's slow and looks amazing when modded.
He's just cheap AF!!!
Why mod if you're going to end up putting it back to stock anyway and you're satisfied with how it comes out the factory?
Great video, I too also plan on buying a BRZ and will leave it completely stock, my previous car was completely modified and heres why I wouldn't do it again:
Mike well considering that things like the supercharger for the brz don't void it...
Robnoxious77 you have the brz or frs?
I love looking at modified 86/frs/brz but I can justify lumping cash into making mine remotely different from stock. I love it the way it is.
Totally agree! Bought one myself a few months ago, it's great, not thinking at all about modding. Great to see that you still enjoy it, I'd like to keep mine for a long time as well.
Glad you think so too, the BRZ is such an enjoyable car the way it is!
You're right. No worries I'll let my friends know in my auto while you're at the shop replacing your tran/clut for the 4th time this year.
Diecast LP640 I've had my clutch for 6 years now and only changing it because im going turbo.
Cheap too
I want to lower my 86 and put sticky tires on them . Can you pose pic of your car ? what other mods have you done to your frs?
Exactly, totally depends on the specific owner's use. For a daily driving yet fun set up, I love it the way it sits!
i salute you bro i myself am a purist as well
Nice to see others think the same!
You put money in and get satisfaction, also being proud of building it. (if you installed the parts)
Karem Gaming_ should I keep it and mod it ? Do you think I'll ever switch it in to the dealer
ken Kaneki but if you want to mod it go ahead but always your choice (saying you will privately sell the car and mod another one ) :D
Wow, your dealership is a little more lenient than mine ;D
dferros347 which dealership are you talking about?
forget trd parts lol. waste of fucking money
MotoErgoSum "a tad longer with four doors" says it all. Go ahead and buy another car, this one does not suit you.
ImBackMan123
Suits me fine for SCCA runs and SoCal canyon runs. For general every day use, it has far more shortcomings than you seem willing to admit. I'll probably sell mine, but if Subaru ever gets around to making a genuine turbo'd BRZ STI I might be willing to deal with the daily driver shortcomings after trading in. The 2017 is a much better deal than previous models and blows away all the fanboy (doesn't need steering wheel controls) BS.
the Candyman
I've been over it.
I decided I wanted a dedicated winter vehicle (which I already had) and a dedicated summer fun canyon ripper that I can modify without fear of un-driveability, and the FRS does that absolutely perfectly.
ashermerkabah
Funny thing is now that he's in a forward-facing car seat someone could probably sit in the passenger seat with some leg room.
Emil Borchert Subaru offers the same parts under STI badging as well.
Oh nice, did not know that, but I'm a Toyota guy so I don't really keep up with what happens on the Subaru side of things. :P
I'm pretty reluctant about doing anything else besides wheels and tires.
sti exhaust completes the experience.
And definitely new whees
thing is you can take the turbo out and make it oem so its hard to know.
Personally, I think mine needs an exhaust. I would like to add a small turbo to bring up the mid/low range for a bit of extra fun
I'd agree with that, the BRZ doesn't have much to offer down low. If you could even it out that would make for a lot of fun.
I have the FRS and I felt this way too in the beginning but I eventually changed the exhaust and wheels/tires. It just didn't give the car justice in my opinion
You can get your money back by installing back the stock parts to the car and sell the mod parts separatelythen you’ll actually get more money.
do you have any issue downshifting to first and second?
Gotta agree as modding your car does indeed devalue it as you gain nothing in return. It may be worth it if you keep the car for more than 10 years but 5 years? nah. Good luck selling mod cars as that's one hell of a niche market.
Hey, I own a frs and I wanted to know does headers voids warranty? And what about coilovers?
if i put a wide body kit and an exhaust, will it depreciate?
Probably since most if not all the wide body 86's require you to cut the fenders in order to properly install them. They look great but I'd only do it if you plan on keeping the car for yourself forever. I'm guessing 20 years down the road these will be like 240sx's though, so if you keep it clean and nice for that long, drift tax will kick in and it will be worth a mountain of cash. Just don't let it rust out or anything like that.
I had to take my exhaust and my wheels and my wing off my FRS when I traded it in because they were gonna give me way less. Luckily I kept all the stock stuff lol. Not I got a GT86 GT!
u totally right.but here...how about tail lights..u gotta at least change those taillight lol
But, I like my lights.
Exoticars19 I'm with you on that one! I'm probably the only one I know that actually likes the stock taillights
Tell me you can’t afford car parts without telling me you can’t afford car parts
the anology of resale makes sense for a honda civic if a buyer is looking at an frs brz gt86 they are already wanting a sports car. so with that being said the car itself narrows down your audience plus parts will increase the value considering most sport car enthusiants want bang for their buck
I couldn't make sense what you;re saying here and I read it 3 times. How did 3 people thumb this up?
6000pounds 5 people who know basic english
Unco Casey Not stopping it from sounding crazy.
Exoticars19 what do you do for a living
Can a person that's 6'-3" fit inside the BRZ?
I wouldn’t buy a modded car and I would look for any signs of mods removed.
how do you look for signs of mods that have been removed?
Not even a exhaust?
Not for me.
I just want to get UEL headers for my 86
Haha, that's how it starts!
1) cost money
a. plenty of cheap aftermarket for the BRZ
2) You don't get the money back
a. put back stock parts
b. put back stock tune
c. sell parts
d. sell car
3) I agree
4) stock suspension
a. I think coil overs completely change the cars look and feel but ur opinion
5)enjoy the way it is
How much does it cost to own this car? In terms of monthly payments and insurance costs.
Miguel Loeza I got mine around 29000 including Ttl. I put 10000 down so I pay around 300 a month for 63 months and my insurance is like 125 👌🏻
Miguel Loeza if you know anyone with a shop trying buying an accident one from auction. got my 2016 frs with 1035km for 9k. all said and done cars on the road for 13k
What about an frs with a trd exhaust? I mean it's Toyota with a Toyota part.
I would still get an exhaust, its worth it
Dammit. No HD yet 😩
Sorry about that, it'll become HD any second now :)
2:57 I cringed so hard I got a back spasm. I HATE when that happens.
Hahaha, it always looks so much worse on video ;D
How is it on wet roads?
kink5291. its handles great in the rain. Balanced and confidence inspiring. I have Michelin SuperSports.
HAHA, I love how you ended your reply with "I have Michelin SuperSports". The car does great in the rain, oh btw, I have pretty much the best tires anyone makes for any car. That's great. To add my little piece, it does do decent in the wet if you're not trying to get sideways. If you ARE trying to get sideways, prepare for a smile that will extend past your ears!
agree wholeheartedly.
So many people are going to get butthurt that you won't modify your car
But I do agree about what you said. My friend has a BRZ and the only thing he has done is a catback, unequal length headers, and a tune and that's the only thing he is doing and he loves it because its not very loud at all
But he also plans to keep the car for the rest of his life. And he said if he didn't live so far away from a Subaru dealer he would've kept it stock.
PeRX Yeah that's true, under 2,500(ish) rpm it's totally mute.
9k miles in 2 years for a daily driver, lucky. I put on around 28k a year :(
I don't understand how my car is so low milage, I drive it quite a bit haha.
so whats the next mod?
I'm going to be installing some gasoline soon.
Exoticars19 modding it from diesel?
hondabar Whatever "premium" is
It’s called save stock parts and revert to stock when you want to sell and then part out 🙄🙄🙄
And that's called a PITA
Real answer: because I’m not a real car guy and I’m afraid to get under the hood.
Real answer: Because I'm not a rice cooker who's driving a used POS with no warranty.
idk but ik those are some rich ass house in the area lol. Frs/Brz good the way they are. Ppl that complain about power & hight they got the wrong car for the wrong reason thats about it they deserve a slap... js...
Free oil changes don't disappear with mods.
That's not what my service advisor told me.
You're comparing a modified car to a smokers car, seriously?...that is a horrible comparison! Go buy your mods, do what you want. Cars depreciate no matter what, who cares, do what you want. Keep it clean, thats what matters! Stay stock, stay boring lol
Right, I will "do what I want" Stock it is...
Before I watch this video, there is no good reason to not mod the FT86 Platform.
Exterior Mods bro ...
The only thing I agree with in this video is the fact that money could be an issue for the rest you do not deserve this car
It's not like it's a mk 4 golf it's already a sports car that will beat most cars on the freeway a lot of people don't understand that
My apologies, I read that out of context :)
It’s easier to drive a slow car fast then it is to drive a fast car slow
Just say no to fart cans.
I'm Kind of late to this video, but my opinion matters dammit. Come on dude, At the very least, get your windows tinted. Like my opinion, Tint Matter! Really, it's a must. Fuck everything else, These care ARE dope as is. But come on..... Tint.
You're right, tints defiantly serve a purpose. Especially in Texas. After by dad tinted his windows, I'm interested in doing the same.
Tint is the first thing I ever did to any car I've ever had. Not only is it good for you but for your cars interior as well. Seeing as how the BRZ and FRS both have lots of grayish plastic pieces it helps preserve its color over time without the sun fading it.
concrete pocket.
5/5
I just subscribed to unsubscribe
