I agree. Cristina WANTED Meredith to do the surgery with her. She asked Mer to read the article because this kind of heart/liver surgery was different from the one Meredith was used to doing and she wanted Mer to be prepared to do this surgery properly. By her own admission, Meredith didn't read the article. She wasn't prepared for the surgery. Then, Meredith got called to the daycare because Zola got hurt. She was freaking out about the princess tea party. And even when she left Zola with Alex, she was still worrying about Zola, rather than being focused on the patient and the surgery. I'm not saying Meredith is a bad surgeon. Absolutely not. She's an AMAZING surgeon. AND she's an amazing Mom. I think we have seen on this show (with Meredith and Bailey and Callie) that you CAN be both an amazing surgeon and a Mom). She won the Harper Avery, because she's such a kickass surgeon. She cares about her patients. She loves her kids. But I don't think she's on the same level, skills-wise, as Cristina. Not in this moment. And I think, in this instance, Cristina absolutely made the right call, having Bailey do the surgery rather than Mer. Bailey was prepared and understood how to do the surgery. In this moment, Mer was MORE focused on her daughter than on Cristina's patient and the surgery. It may seem harsh, but I would have done the same thing in her shoes.

Cristina needed to let up a little bit, it was Mer's first day back and she was already shaming her for putting her kids before surgery. Like just because you didn't want kids doesn't mean Mer shouldn't either. Mer didn't let up, she was just being there for her family.

Cristina was 100% right in this situation. It’s okay if Met let up and was there for her family but the patient needs someone who is focused on their surgery. Med was late, had family problems to deal with, and didn’t read the article. This is a patients life on the line here, not about how much effort someone put in. Like bruh.

Meredith has different priorities now. She's a mom and a wife and so she's trying to not be her own mother so bad that she's becoming superwoman. Christina on the other hand has always said that she just wants to be a surgeon. Everything else will be a distraction.

To be fair Cristina and Mers relationship has always been like that. If they have something to say they say it they never sugarcoat things. Bailey was way more prepared on the surgery than Grey and that’s why when Grey was pumping Bailey was helping her study. Cristina made a professional call to kick Meredith off the case, not based on personal feelings but what she thought was right for HER patient. Cristina told Meredith what she needed to hear and now she’s taking out on Derek when they needed to makeup a plan on how things are gonna role now that they have 2 kids. As for Callie my girl had to do what she had to do she helped them as much as she could with her own child to look after as well.

I hated Cristina in this episode, she had no right to say what she said Meredith worked so dam hard to do that surgery and she also work really hard to be a good surgeon. Mer and Cristina have the same level of surgical skills the only reason that Cristina is “better” it’s because she only cares about that and Mer cares about her family too

    • @CeltycSparrow

She's right though. Meredith WAS distracted (and justifiably so, because Zola got hurt and Zola is her daughter and your children SHOULD always come first) . She wasn't prepared. She was reading the article, but she was also pumping and answering the phone and tending to her daughter. Cristina was about to do a very complicated, multiple transplant surgery and while she DOES love Zola and Baby Bailey too, she was concerned for the safety of her patient and while it may not have seemed fair.....I think she did the right thing in pulling Mer off the case. Cristina is a cardio-goddess. She's focused on surgery and hearts and that's her life. But she's right. Meredith DID choose to step back. She chose to be a mom and not put as much time and focus on the medicine. She IS an amazing surgeon. She won that Harper Avery BECAUSE she's an awesome surgeon. But she and Cristina ARE in different places.

@@CeltycSparrow Agreed about the “mer is more focused on zola on that episode”, but mer did read the article. Idk if you watched the whole ep but there was this part where she was breast pumping when bailey offered to quiz her (shonda just had to cut the scene). Although cristina was right about mer being unfocused, but mer totally has the same skill as her, just as you said. Cristina could’ve cut her some slack because it was mer’s first day back, and she even learned the procedure for the surgery on the same day, ofc with bailey’s help but she still did learn so easily. The only problem that day was that the daycare paged mer at the wrong time, derek wasn’t available nor was callie, so she had to make some adjustments on her time. If only zola hit her head later then mer would’ve done the surgery without a doubt. This is for cristina tho 😅
and another thing, I LOVE CRISTINA but if she happened to also be a mother like callie, bailey, or mer, i dont think she could’ve succeeded on both being a mom or as a surgeon. However, knowing cristina, she would’ve chose surgery over her daughter. (knowing the circumstances, she could’ve thought of the fact that despite mer being unfocused because of zola, she still managed to get on the same level as cristina)

My life is in the balance of every procedure done. I as a patient have to trust my doctors. Thankfully things worked out in my favor as the patient. I never thought of my surgicall staff having this kind of drama behind the scenes. I had to trust every single hand on my body and it was scary every time. My life was in their hands and I advocated for myself with every person at every surgery and procedure.
