  • There is a lot of fancy cleaning products on the market today to help you clean out your helmet. Well guess what, non of them work any good. The A, B, C of marketing is to create a problem and sell the solution. With a little bit of elbow grease you can clean you helmet back to mint condition. Enjoy

    And that’s exactly why I ride all year round, it’s easier than cleaning your helmet at the end of the season😁. Great video mate, wasn’t really sure how to properly clean my pinlock, so thank you for the info 👍🏼

    Aha! That silicone was a nice touch.
    I wash the padding of my helmet with Milo too, but it takes so long to dry sometimes, that I have to wash it one more time.
    I also use a can of pressurised air, in the air vents. Usually I find a dead insect or two that way.

    • @tshansen
      @tshansen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, and yes I have experienced that my self. takes a little bit of time to dry sometimes. Then I just trow it in the dryer for a couple of minutes and solve it that way. If it's dry weather and wind you can hang it outside. Pressure air is great on the vents. I was considering to add it in the video but forgot about it in the finishing process. 🔥

This morning it was 3° here. So sooner more that later I will have no choice. I still have not done my last moto-camping trip. Supposed to be next week but ....we will see! Cheers mate! Keep up the good work and amazing videos. P.S.: If this is any help for topics during your off (motorcycle) time, personally I really enjoy seeing how you as a Norwegian live (your home, your, city, maybe what other Norwegians motorcyclists do during the off time). Just a side note: I would never dare to bring water into the helmet's shell. The shock absorbing material(s) (EPS, and especially the green stuff used by Klim) are of an open cell structure thus absorbing water quickly. Since water is not compressible (but air is), you loose most if not all of the shock absorbing properties and render your $$$$ helmet into a plastic bucket of less practical value.

    • @tshansen
      @tshansen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So heat, sweat, rain, cold, condensation etc is ruining your helmet? From what I know about this, there is nothing on the helmet that can't be exposed to water?

    • @52kr
      @52kr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@tshansen Yes, all of these (plus dust and other solid materials your helmet picks up during a ride) diminish the absorbing quality of your inner shell(s) over time and are among of the many reasons, helmet manufacturers recommend a new bucket every x years (or mileage). However, usually this kind of humidity is first absorbed by the comfort liner and reaches the inner shell mostly as vapor that does not necessarily condensate within the inner shell material.
      The point is the micro porous structure that leads to capillary effects sucking in fluids while making it difficult or even impossible for the fluid to fully evaporate once it's inside. I am too concerned to replace the air inside the inner shells material with water - and not getting rid of it - to apply anything more moist than a damp cloth to the inner shell. If at all.

    • @tshansen
      @tshansen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@52kr This is a really interesting discussion for me. Cause I have heard the opposite. Yes, the shell will need to be replaced, but that is more because of UV light and making the outer shell hard (easy to crack) I need to investigate this further and get in contact with some of the bigger brands on the market. (klim, Arai, shoei etc) I have a old helmet I will saw in two and take a look. Because I have done this for years 🤔

    • @52kr
      @52kr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tshansen Outer shell materials age as well as inner shell materials do, but they do so differently and for different reasons. In the end, it's usually the unavailability of spare parts that kills the bucket prematurely (a broken peak visor killed my HJC, a shredded comfort liner killed my Suomy and will probably do so to my Airoh too).
      I'm curious to hear the responses of the large brands as I haven't found anything within their care instructions regarding the inner shell... I had a look at Schuberth, Klim and Arai (iirc). I act as I do due to my understanding of the inner workings of these materials...
      Maybe a topic for another video? "What to do and not to do to your helmet/protective gear" or so?
