I do it as it says in my helmet's manual: outer shell and visor are cleaned with damp soft cloth, interior is taken out and washed either like you showed at the start by hand or in washing machine on lowest temperature and without fabric softener. I have done that for my HJC TR-1 helmet few times and I washed interior of my RPHA 11 twice since I got it and it is still tight as before. I think that it even gets a bit tighter after washing too.
I tend to wash it when I don't plan to ride for few days. So I wash it and leave interior pads to air dry away from the sun for about 24-48 hours. It worked for me so far so I think I'll continue that practice.

Because of this video, I give Motorex a try and it works amazingly, not on my helmet as I'm new rider, my helmet still under 50km mileage, but on my Razer extended mouse pad, which collected a layer of dead skin of my hand. Motorex really gives it a good cleaning, and I believe it will work perfectly on my helmet too. Thanks for the video

Thank you! There are dozens of videos out there on helmet cleaning but they all focus on the exterior, which is the easiest to clean. The interior is the side I'm more concerned about, a sweaty head pressed for hours up against absorbent foam is a perfect breeding zone for some nasty bacteria.

The muc off visor cleaner works perfectly for my glasses and visor, I’ve noticed it need to be used very lightly to work well. It does cause spots when i’ve sprayed on too much liquid. I need only about a half spray for around 20cm away to clean my glasses so it lasts quite long too.

As a car detailer I have a lot mild and harsh textile cleaner at hand, a good ph neutral textile cleaner wil do just fine for removing dirt. The smell can be tackled with an ozone machine, which a small one can be found pretty cheap.

Nice video sr. I might recommend Putoline helmet cleaner and sanitizer which is also for inside and outside cleaning of helmet. The nice smell stays in the helmet and the spray mechanism is also superb. Anyway, your video is a very informative product comparison. Thank you. from Philippines.

Hands down the best thing to clean the outside right after the ride is a towel drenched in hot water, ring it out a bit and let it sit on the lid for 5mins or less... Wipe dry with a soft clean Microfiber towel... It will buff clean and is inexpensive with no harsh chemicals...

  • @silverio5778
    @silverio5778 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I pull out the interior and use baby shampoo to clean the linning. Submerge the helmet in a warm water solution of baby shampoo, let sit while I am gently scrubbing the padding. Rince everthing off
with cold water, set the helmet and padding in the sun to dry for a day. With a small spray bottle fill with distilled water and 3 drops of cedarwood oil a lite spray of the vents and interior of the helmet
wipe excess off . Polish helmet , apply UV protection on any rubber trim , reassenble linning and clean lens. I have been cleaning my helmets this way for years . Depending on the weather your helmet should stay fresh for 3 months or so. If your riding the dirt after every ride you wipe your linning out with a towel and astringent use for acne. This will kill off most of the bacterior that builds up from sweating and keep your helmet fresh until you get to properly clean your helmet. Now if your helmet is 7 to 10 years old you need to replace the linning all together if you can find replacement padding. If not it's time for a new helmet. You can give this method of cleaning your stale smelling helmet a try . I have been cleaning all my helmets this way for years.

  • @845racingworks

My tried and trusted method, Sunlight liquid on the visor and outer shell, with one micro fiber cloth used to wash visor and helmet with, and one to dry it with. Inside liners, I cold wash in washing machine, and leave to dry. After a few times I've done this, the liners usually wear out, so I just phone my motorcycle shop, and have them order new ones. Will give the Motorex a try for sure, as it seems like less effort and easier to use, especially when your riding at the track.

I use baby shampoo in the same way you washed yours by hand . It removes dirt and oil but the chemicals are gentle on the foam padding.
bugs (here in Hawaii at least) come right off with a little mist of water to soften them, and a gentle swipe with a damp microfiber cloth not to leave any swirl marks or scratches on my visor.

But on usual days I just use a febreeze antibacterial fabric freshener to keep in bacteria free . If the smell builds up, I will know it's time to go snow foam again

    All these expensive products... LOL!
All my many many years of riding I have only used 2 products...
Cleaning the exterior of the helmet and visor, I use simple Methylated Spirits! Cleans great and is cheap to buy and lasts forever! Also gets the bugs off with ease!
Then I treat the visor on both sides with Wynn's C-Thru! BEST EVER WATER REPELLANT! When it rains, just give the head a twist and the water is gone...
As for the interior, I never really bothered about it. For R500 you get a new interior, so 1 every 12 - 18 months and you sorted...
    Cheap is gooooood!
    Great video bud. 👍👍👍

  • @martin72345

After cleaning helmets myself with great success (and no damage) I am left skeptical of ALL of the interior cleaners.
That sweat, grime and other nasty stuff is impregnated IN the foam liner of the helmet. I'm convinced that if you went an dunked them in warm water after all of the above cleaning then you will still get brown water if you started with a properly dirty helmet. These cleaners just cover up the dirt, no remove them?
I guess these products are quick and easy to use and therefore will be used more often leaving a cleaner helmet in the long run? A quick spray down after a weeks riding apposed to an annual tear down and soak.
I've used a very mild mix of hand wash clothes detergent (OMO if I'm not mistaken) and a gentle hand wash and rinse... and another rinse, and another till I was convinced all the soap was out. A hot summers day of hanging out to dry in the shade later and my liners smelt good and I dare even think more spongy (read like original) than before. I would not try this in winter as the foam liners would never dry properly.

For my helmet I just wipe out the inside with a few baby wipes right after a ride, use a few on my face and head, then take all of the used wipes and stick them all over the helmet, I let them sit and soak and soften up bugs and dirt and then just wipe and I'm done. My helmet and me are both clean and fresh and smell nice with one product.
I think the major difference why my helmet is so clean is because I almost always clean directly after a sweaty or dirty ride. I never let it sit and get nasty.
I think every motorcyclist should stock up on baby wipes, they are cheap and work great on everything! You can clean your hands, face and gear, they are safe on leather and all textiles, have a mild and nice scent and if you stop somewhere... you have a fresh ass after a bathroom break. Also, I use them for a ghetto bath sometimes on longer rides or if I'm meeting friends or girls, wipe the pits and under carriage and give yourself a wipe down.
I cannot praise baby wipes enough. It's nice having one thing that does everything, and not compromising. A good brand will do everything well, no sacrifices for convenience.
    Try it out!

    • @nealpowell4341
      @nealpowell4341 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm not sure if there's any alcohol in baby wipes but if there is, it could react with the interior foam in the helmet and not in a good way compromising the safety rating

I wash my helmet 2/3 times in a year, with baby shampoo. Pads stay the same.

The muc off helmet visor cleaner should really not be used on anti fog screens like pinlock screens! I have made that mistake and needed to buy a new screen! It infects the plastic and made it very blurry! Please do not make the same mistake as me!

Keep in mind, wearing the helmet directly on ur skin makes it get dirty faster.

You dont need any of these. Pull out your padding, throw it on gentle program in your washing mashine for 15min with small amount of detergent, dry it on air and you are done, I dont see any reason your pading foam will disolve or shrink or anything like that. For the exterior, put damped microfiber cloth over your helmet, leave it for 2 mintes to disolve any dirt or bugs, wipe it, and than just finish with dry microfiber cloth and you are ready to go.
