      You could try grabbing a shoulder strap off of amazon. They help a lot for the Ronin-S and they're only about $30 USD.

    I've been using this model for about 5 years (not regularly), but just last week I discovered you can pause it, flip it upside down, turn the arms to the other side, unpause, and continue using it in inverted mode... Genius!

    This is one of the BEST reviews/tutorials I've come across in ages! It was well thought out, informative and engaging. I'm new to hybrid shooting and film making and so I was super hesitant to invest in a gimbal. I researched and compared all the offerings and always leaned toward the DJI Ronin S. It's an investment in both money and learning so I was not going to make the decision lightly. After watching your video twice I decided to pull the plug and buy the Ronin S. I love that it can handle large rigs as well as small. That the motors are virtually silent and hefty. The options for future add-ons to the gimbal. I love that the interface on both the gimbal itself and the app are intuitive. They've also updated features for the Sony mirrorless line so that's aBIG plus. I'm sill a little skeptical about the weight but I tried the Tilta and that thing was a beast. Although I loved practically everything about the Tilta it was too heavy for me. I have a Sony A7III with not only the kit lens but the Sony 85mm f1.8, the Sony 50mm f1.8 and the Samyang 35mm f2.8 to start me off. My DJI Ronin S comes in this Friday! I'm super excited! Thanks for providing such great content!

    I've been using glider for a long time, and choose to get this beast. It took me a long time to get good in the glider like 2-3 months before I could fully utilize using it, it was pretty heavy but learning it day by day makes your arm stronger, in the Ronin-S it took me 1 hour just to figure out everything, Blew my mind about how good it is, you don't need to think about balancing and anything, Downside is its really heavy, I am using 80d armed with 18-35 f1.8 Sigma Art lens, And its really heavy specially doing the 360 (vortex shot) Close to the face where you lift it up so close to the face, but My film making really blew to the ceiling its like I am now 100 times better than before, Thanks for this video helps me add some tips on using this beast, Great video keep it up!

    I'm so excited for my Ronin-S to arrive tomorrow. I added the command unit to the order so the phone app isn't a necessity (although no clue whether or not its worth the extra $120 yet). I haven't seen a bad review on this thing yet, and I've been paying attention since it came out. Also would like to point out that DJI offers payments through a company called Affirm where you can set up an actual monthly payment plan. I went with the 12 month plan which is $78 a month. Hard to believe it wasn't even that long ago that this technology was only really accessible to big productions.

    Have to express gratitude in pointing out the *necessity* of auto-tuning every time you rebalance with new lens! During a wedding, my pan and tilts from joystick were less than smooth, lots of jerks and jumps in trajectory. The lesson: never auto-tuned. After I troubleshot upon coming home, discovered that it was essential for perfectly smoove movement. Take note!

    Hi! This is the best tutorial I have seen on the DJI Ronin S. It really helps a lot, especially when you are a beginner. Thanks a lot!

    BEST review out there ! Actually gave up on most other TH-cam reviews as they all seem to be sponsored by a company. Do you have comments on the new Zhiyun Weebil or crane 3 vs the Ronin S ?? Wanted to upgrade from my Zhiyun crane 1 V2 , but the more TH-cam you watch the more confused you get LOL . Other TH-camrs said they don,t like the Ronin S as the motors are weak ??
    Anyway subbed ....Great Job

  • @snapshit8617
    @snapshit8617 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually I use my Ronin S one-handed quite a lot! Every time I'm doing shots on rough terrain where I am also quickly moving around the Subject I'm filming, I will have one hand on my Ronin and the other I use to balance myself. Well certainly those kind of shots cannot take much longer than let's say 3-5 minutes as they are very exhausting! But thanks to a little strength training these shots become definitely feasible ;D
    BTW awesome Review and tutorial! This has really helped me a lot to understand the app :D

    Just used the ronin s on the last wedding film. Im not exaggerating, i managed to bring the battery down to the last bit. And it wasnt even the longest shooting ever. So, actually the battery is very well thought out!

    • @CineD
      @CineD  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      S.H. Oh wow interesting to hear! Are you sure it was balanced perfectly? Should use very little battery then. I found it drains faster when the balance is a bit off. Nino

    • @m0nztam0nk
      @m0nztam0nk 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      cinema5D well, when checking the footage i found also some bad gimbal induced shakes, maybe a slight hint for off balance. But i rebalanced it almost 5times. Didnt recalibrate though, that couldve been the cause of the wobbles. Also: GH5 with speedbooster xl and sigma 18-35 was a very heavy setup too...and it was 12jours of shooting so...

    • @CineD
      @CineD  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, well 12 hours of shooting explains it :-) At least they really seem to be honest about how long it lasts!! Nino

    • @m0nztam0nk
      @m0nztam0nk 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      cinema5D yeah, but i was only actually „shooting“ for around 5 hours. So as to be expected, with a heavy payload thats maybe not perfectly balanced, it can get close on a very long day...still, if i figure out to completely eliminate the wobbles in some shots, it will be the best gimbal for huge projects like Weddings. As it usually outlasts the project or the operator, which is exactly what it should do, awesome!

    • @m0nztam0nk
      @m0nztam0nk 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      cinema5D by the way: did you experience the gimbal „wobble“ (very quick up-down wave for around 2-3 times under heavy stress (running) or at angled gripping positions? Im trying to figure out hoe to avoid that...has ruined some awesome shots, as its almost impossible to get in post...

      Leo Mars positive, you probably aren’t using the right cable. Plug the android style cable into the bottom half of the USB port on the 5D Mark IV and the light on the focus wheel should turn green. Did you update the gimbal with the computer and not just the app on your phone?

    This is a great video but, I have a word of warning to those in the UK buying a Ronin S Essentials Kit for use with a Panasonic Lumix GH-5 . You will need to buy an additional DJI Ronin-S Type C USB Cable and at the time of writing (Feb 2020), they seem to be as rare as hens teeth. Unless, that is, you are prepared to purchase directly from DJI, pay the exorbitant postage charge and wait 10 - 15 days for the privilege.

    The technology is getting so light which is awesome! I mean even a MacBook Air gets heavy if you carry it around all day. Though the lightweight technology did not have women in mind while creating filming equipment, it certainly is making it easier on women to create without the worry of needing extra help when you want to go out and shoot by yourself. Bigger is not better. Heavier equipment does not make more creative. I’m loving my DJI Osmo Mobile 2 until I can afford a stabilizer for my dslr.

    Great review + content as always Nino! Just wondering how you find the actual stability / smoothness of the gimbal during motion compared to the Movi m5 ? Is it similar ? or does the Movi edge it out? Would love if they released a 'pro' option made with carbon fiber / leaner weight + better motors + replaceable smaller (6-8hr) batteries for $1200. Not sure if just me - but seem to see more micro jitters in RONIN S footage than Movi footage ?

      @CineD  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question, I didn't do a side-by-side. Overall, I still prefer the MoVi M5 in terms of its stabilization ... also the dual handle setup simply gives you better results. BUT the Ronin-S outperforms in stiff winds as the motors are more heavy-duty than the ones on the MoVi M5. Nino

      Thanks for the follow up - yeah be interesting to see if Movi ever bring out a smaller competitor, pretty torn on them! Will also be interesting to see how the dual handle setup rolls on Ronin S... keep up the great work with Cinema 5D btw - Awesome stuff :)

    Nice review and the best so far I have seen. One question that I do have I have a D850 and I calibrate it. Now is it normal that when I move the stick from a 180 degree angle to a 90 degree or a 270 the gimbal gets a kick or a motor overload? I don’t think it’s the weight since it says it’s compatible. Or is it it’s just I’m pushing it to far and it’s just me trying to push it further to either side and the motors overload because of the wheight.

    I think there's a software bug when balancing the Pan. System keeps saying it needs re-balancing with Tilt and Control showing as excellent.

    Dji needs to make a slider we can mount this gimbal on to fully use these programmable motion functions.

    I don’t understand why you skipped the balancing. The rest of the video is pretty good but it doesn’t feel like a full tutorial considering the balancing is the most important part of the “walk-through”. Thanks for the info other than that

    That is one gimbal you can't use when doing selfies in the street. DJI eliminated themself from the vlogging community in one single swoop when they made that heavyweight. Some of the recenty released Zhiyun's look decent, but for some reason they are not compatible with DSLR's. What's a (DSLR) vlogger to do.

    Hello! I am fairly new to gimbles and I just bought this one. However, on my first try, I had a lot of wobbly footage as if the camera was on a stick. The DJI forum had many similar complaints. I was wondering if you had any similar issues and if so, how did you correct them? FYI My camera is the Canon 1DX mark 2 with a 16-35 I want to use it for real estate video walk throughs and its going bonkers! I am hoping that it is simply user error but I could use any advice possible to get this corrected. My balance settings are all Excellent on all 3 axis and the motor parameters are all set at just under 50. thank you for any help! And stay safe!

      Hey there, I noticed similar results. Using the gimbal doesn't mean you're going to get dead still movements unfortunately. I find that if I use my 5D4 instead of my 1dx2, its much easier to control since its lighter. also a lighter lens always helps. I was using my 24-105 f4 L, but the 16-35 2.8L works even better. Bottom line you still have to be very still in your movements, even just panning. I am getting better with each practice/shoot.

      Noah Barker hi Noah, thanks for the reply. Yes the 1D is a beast but it should handle it.what I found out that helped a bunch was right before I did a session I ran the auto tune feature and it made all the difference in the world! The wobble that I experienced was more than just my inexperience. (Which is a problem for sure!) but I believe I’m getting the hang of it now! Thanks!

    In osmo mobile 2 is easy to do that...

    Hi Nino. I can buy one second hand from a colleague for a reasonable price. I'm shooting restaurant shots, small businesses and nature shots. Do you reckon it'll come in handy for my A7iii? I usually shoot handheld, but would like more stability. Cheers for a reply!
