Today I install heavy-duty bolt-on rock sliders on my 80 series Toyota Land Cruiser and fix some odds and ends with the wiring and suspension lift. Making progress and having fun building this truck! Looking good with the armor! What do you think we should do next?

crimp is the way to go bro. In aviation we crimp. vibration will tear solder apart

May I suggest using U-Shaped Terminal tab and iCrimp SN-28B Dupont Crimping Tool. This will give you OEM crimps. As a Lexus Master technician, this is what I use to repair damaged wires caused by rodent activity.

I have open barrel u-shaped crimps if that's what you're talking about. I just didn't have any to fit this gauge of wire, so I used the closed barrel ones. Thank you for the suggestion and I'll take a look at that crimping tool too! For open barrel I currently have "engineer" Japanese brand after hearing lots of good reviews.

Got the WK sliders on my 97. Have beat the crap out of them and so far no issue. Great product at a decent price compared to the Slees. Love the offset angle and the kickouts too. I ordered mine several years back and don't remember having the offset angle option. Luckily I had already dealt with my stock cat/exhaust issue and had way more clearance to get to those four front plate bolts on the passenger side slider. That 93-94 parallel cat setup looked like a bear when it came to getting to those bolts. Great product to anyone looking for 80 series rock rails. Also liked that they will ship bare metal. I did end up having a local shop powder coat them. Looking back I wish I had just blasted them a couple times with rattle cans. After several years of use most of the powder coating on the undersides has been affectionately scraped off by local rocks anyway :)

I've been meaning to get some sliders for some time. Luckily my rockers are still in good shape. I've been thinking either these WKOR or the Slee ones. They look great and are really create a piece of mind knowing the side is protected. Your undercarriage still looks good...no rust! 😁 Crimping with heat shrink tubing is good to go. They have those crimps that have solder inside so you are crimping. soldering and heat shrink tubing all at the same time.

I've seen those solder crimps and they're pretty neat. I think if I had more room in the area I would've just done that.

The LSPV is a problem, most have never been bled, thus pushing the old fluid out. And most are frozen, or a sludge monster. I've seen several videos about capping the line at the prop valve up front, and removing the entire assembly. I'm about to do this on my truck. Or if it's not leaking, do what you did on your pickup, that was simple. Jim

      @RM_Garage  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Mine isn't frozen and I was able to bleed it. Tempted to just take the pickup route, yeah. Considering it's almost free to do it that way, seems like an easy solution.

I hear you. The thing is not doing anything for your rig though, it's way less of a headache to just delete the unit? Cheers and a great video.@@RM_Garage

Put a set on my 100 series. I went with the 0 degree. Mine came with the top assembled already. It was an easy install. Highly recommend. I would have loved the 5% discount.

    I thought I commented, but apparently I didn't. I started watching your videos AFTER I bought my 94. 🤦‍♀
I wish I'd started before. It would have given me a few more things to be watchful of.
Ours look so similar but mine is grey interior. I also ordered the rock sliders for blackfriday and mine should arrive soon hopefully. This video is going to be super helpful.
I wanted to put my mod money in to a manual swap, but it all ended up going in to changing to part time conversion and the 10% overdrive...underdrive? I never remember which.
I'm on 35s and it still drives fine especially with the 10% extra and 2wd.
I've just being trying to track down a miss, so that's been frustrating. But I know I need all new connectors for my fuel injectors, and possibly need to get my injectors cleaned. Just a headache putting 5k almost in to the engine and still having a rough idle and occasional lean code. Other than that I love the land cruiser. It came with 4" Dobs Flexi lift and 35s. I have a feeling I'll eventually go down to a 2" lift to make it easier for my wife and son to get in. And possibly go down to 33s as well. This would make it possible to clear a roof rack in the garage. Where as right now it barely fits in the garage.
Only other real issues for me and getting all the windows to go up and down reliably, and fixing a sunroof leak. Ideally I'll just get a plate welded up and delete the sunroof all together and paint the roof white. 😅

Might update your tags. I just seared "white knuckle slider install" and didn't find your video. Had to go back and search your video. My sliders just arrived. Man these things are beefy.

would love to see the top plates flipped from side to side and grip tape added for less boot slips

WKOR rock sliders are really nice, I have reached out to WKOR but I think their rock sliders won’t fit on an HDJ81. My 3” exhaust (Torqit from Australia) drops down a little too much so I might have to go custom.

Good job. On my '97 80 I cut the LSPV rod all together and that's simply cuz I added a fuel pump in the area for my LRA 24gal aux gas tank.
    She's looking good!

I did ABS and LPSV delete on my 93. Easier to bleed and stops better. If the 80 was my DD and was going to spend most its time on pavement then I would keep all of that or do the manual valve.
