    Nice build, but I would recommend you go back on your run and add hardware cloth on top of the chicken wire to the bottom 2 ft at least. Raccoons can rip that chicken wire right open.

      @threeballmonte2003 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. I learned this the hard way. They didn’t rip it open, but they reached through it and pulled the chickens heads out and ate the heads and left the bodies. Of course i was mad it got my chickens, but i was more insulted they wasted the entire body. Like bro you just stuck your nasty diseased teeth into my chickens, now i can’t even eat them...at least eat the whole bird!

    I've been brainstorming ideas around my shed to convert it to two runs, chicken and quail. I love what you've done here, and will use your ideas to improve my plans. Great work!

    Thanks for sharing this! We are getting chickens in the Spring, but we aren’t carpenters. Thanks for showing some basic building techniques!

    Great tip on putting nail in board and bending it for extra help,,brilliant idea, haven't seen that on any DIY channels I've seen. Great project!

    Really nice build! Thanks for the ideas. Yours is the first intentional, multi-run, coop I’ve seen.

      Thanks! The guy I built it for wants to bread chickens and also has some turkeys to so he needed everything separated and this is what I had come up with.

    Looks great 👍
    I make my chicken doors (openings to the nesting boxes) so that the bottom of the door is about 8" above the floor.... keeps the bedding in the coop and not in the nesting boxes.

    Nice job, I advise to build the chicken coop on the higher foundation to avoid water.

    I am still working on mine . Building is 32’x64’. It has 12 coops inside that are 13’x10’ each . 6’ walkways in between . The outside runs are 20’x10’.
    I only get to work in it on my days off , So is taking a while .
    There are 2 more runs connected that are 16’x64’.
    It will be housing 380 chickens for my small hatchery .

    • @OzarkConstruction
      @OzarkConstruction  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s pretty cool

      @@OzarkConstruction , If I knew how long it was going to take me , I would have decided to make 2 at 1/2 the size . lol .
      I will have it done and loaded with my breeders by spring of 2025 .

    I'm curious on why so many runs instead of 1 big one... is this so different breeds aren't mixing or something?? I'm pretty new to chickens and trying to soak up all I can in the learning dept!

    • @OzarkConstruction
      @OzarkConstruction  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! The guy I built it for breeds specialty chickens and has to keep them all separated. Normally you wouldn’t separate chickens and you probably wouldn’t need this much space either

    • @OzarkConstruction

      The guy that I built it for was breading specialty chickens and wanted to keep each bread in a different run

    Unless you have a lot of chickens your coop is way to big unless your planning on suplimental heat in the winter. Nice runs but they are not predator proof with that fencing. A raccoon or coyote will rip threw that. Need hardware cloth 1/2" or smaller opening, larger gauge like 19

    • @d65-m1x
      @d65-m1x 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nice job, I would not worry about comment about too big and needing supplemental heat. I live in Wisconsin and never heat my coops and have no problems....no hate just sayin'

  • @paulieabeles2149
    @paulieabeles2149 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fantastic “remodel” & Amazing job but isn’t chicken wire too flimsy to keep out determined predators? Most videos say You need hardware cloth.

    • @OzarkConstruction
      @OzarkConstruction  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes hardware cloth is for sure the way to go. But the chicken wire is what the guy I built it for wanted. It is a thicker chicken wire than normal chicken wire so I think he thought that would be enough

    Very nice build. What kind of chicken wire is that? Looks more substantial than any I have seen.

    • @OzarkConstruction
      @OzarkConstruction  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The guy I built it for had it on site when I got there but yes it was a thicker chicken wire then I’ve ever felt with. Plus it had a black coating over it as well.

    Very nice build, but you do all that work..with a mind set of chicken wire, bad decision..should have used hard Ware cloth.. chicken wire is for keeping chickens out of places, not for security..and you did not secure the run from burrowing predators...you need to bury hardware cloth and bury it, at least a foot deep then cover with dirt...once a preditor gets one meal they will be back to wipe you out...sorry for the bad news because you worked so hard on this project....but way to many people think you need chicken wire..that is the whole problem...hardware cloth is the way to go..the heavy gage of wire will keep your chickens safe and for those who do not cover the runs in, for owls and hawks will swoop down and take the birds... so the top needs to be covered also

  • @jameschandler2776
    @jameschandler2776 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why so many individual chicken runs. We keep 50 at a time in the same house and same run. We free range when we can. It seems like it would be a lot harder to clean and feed and water.

  • @cherylangel1714
    @cherylangel1714 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice, but chicken wire is pretty useless against predators :(
