    I like that you didn't use a $100k wood workshop to do this like some videos. Just using your skilsaw for most of it gave me a little more confidence in my project. :)

      I love that he can actually use the tools and knows to simply flip a 4*4 over to cut it all the way with a circular saw. I see people using hand saws and other stuff and one guy had some Japanese pole saw or something .

      Awesome build, quick question. On the side where the two vents are do you think modifying the bottom to have a panel open up to allow for clean out would be feasible? Or do the plans already have that built in?

      You can do this with a handsaw, hammers and nails if you wanted too.

      We elected to build our Chicken House 24” off the Ground…the whole House & 10’x 24’ Run are 1/2” Hardware Clothed Completely Under & Up All Sides of Run so it is very Secure. My only Issue (didn’t see this coming) is my Girls occasionally Lay Eggs under the House…I can’t Crawl under it, so I won’t do that again. House is 8’x 8’ Floor but 12’ West Wall & 5’ East wall so we have a decent Pitch on roof…we have lotsa Rain here, so went with Green Metal to match our Home & Garage. You did a Superstar Job on your House!! Wonderful Video too!!!

    Great tutorial! Love the simple design you made it look so easy to build!
    One suggestion I always make is to use natural wood sticks as roosts of various girths so your chickens don’t get arthritis. Makes it just a little bit more comfortable for them.

    • @WeekendRenegades
      @WeekendRenegades  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks! And yeah I've heard a lot of different things around that particular debate with roosts. But from what I've read 2x4s with the 1 1/2" side up make for perfect roosting bars as long as you get rid of the sharp corners. I'll look into the arthritis thing though, I haven't heard of that.

    • @bambamnj

      Professional chicken keepers say that the way their feet are shaped fit better when the a board is used for a roost. If a branch is used it needs to be big around enough to be comfortable. Chickens are pretty heavy so they need a perch that supports their feet. If you are interested in learning more there are any number of sites that can educate you.t@@bambamnj

  • @BigDawgTheGreat

    I literally just finished this exact chicken coop... The biggest departure in how I went about it was that I used more whole sheets of t1-11 siding and then used a flush cut router to get my doors and windows cut. I also decided to use PVC trim... So I only had to prime and paint the building and the trim was already white and ready to go. I still gotta caulk some screw holes but am done. I also am insulating mine as I'm in South Dakota where it gets both toasty and downright cold. My only dislike of this coop design is that the nesting box lid still manages to get water under it... At least with wind driven rain.

    • @WeekendRenegades
      @WeekendRenegades  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good notes overall. PVC trim was a good call. I may still insulate mine as well at some point. Something else I would've done different as well was buy thicker t1-11. The siding I bought was thinner and saved me money but the thicker one probably would have been better. Thanks for watching!

    • @brianeaton3734
      @brianeaton3734 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thinking about building this and I thought the next box lid would probably leak. I will probably modify so that the front drops down rather than the top lifting up.

      How much did the build end up costing?

  • @joeinge4808
    @joeinge4808 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I built a similar design ( not based on this video) and it leaks to much where the nesting boxes are located. I tried different types of flashing and eventually got it fixed. The wind driven rain comes down/in where the hinges are located.

      I made this same coop a couple years ago totaled a bit over 2000. More than I was expecting, and I didn't buy windows, I made my own with wood and plexi.

      Check the description for a link to the plans! I'd rather have people support the creator of the plans and not give them away for free. Good luck with your project!

    How do you make the chickens lay eggs in those exact slots if the entire coop is covered in the same stuff? Just so I know how to do mine thank you

    • @fiddlydigits7411
      @fiddlydigits7411 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If they aren't naturally catching on then keep them inside the house for a couple days when weather permits. They like privacy when laying so they automatically go for the boxes.
