    Results were exactly as I expected. I figured the Windex would do a great job cleaning the surface to a streak free shine without leaving residue, but I didn't think it would do THAT good of a job.

    Fingerprints are made of salt, protein, and light oil .. so it makes sense that vinegar and glass cleaners like windex would work well to remove them. To prevent them, you would need an oleophobic protectant (repulses oil). I’m hoping you have some recommendations!

    Thanks for trying the Weiman products. I was curious to see how it worked, but it did not look good. Windex seems to be the way to go for this.

    What i use at home on stainless steal items is distilled ( purified water ) mixed in a 50/50 solution with white vinegar and you can get both really cheap, it is great on stainless steal but is also really good for cleaning windows and mirrors, it would work as well as Windex as vinegar is part of what is on that

    Wd-40 is great for a small part that you want to protect. cybertruck Is probably the biggest piece of stainless most normal people will ever own. some of these that aren't good for spot cleaning fingerprints will be good for cleaning bugs, tar, and other debris off maybe with a follow up with windex once the hard to remove stuff is taken off

    My cunning plan was to: 1. Get tube of alcohol wipes. 2. Open tube, and let sit for a few hours until all the alcohol has flashed off 3. Pour in Windex.
    BAM, Windex Wipes™ :)

      Windex wipes are a thing lol. They work okay for cleaning inside of windshield but I still feel that I need to go over it with a dry m microfiber afterwards. Windex spray plus microfiber is better imo.

    *Windex* ingredients by %weight according to its Material Safety Data Sheet:
    2-Butoxyethanol 0.5 - 1.5%
    Ethylene glycol hexyl ether 0.5 - 1.5%
    Isopropyl Alcohol 1.0 - 5.0%
    Water 60 - 100%
    pH 10.6 to 11.5 [Basic.], so it is a reasonably strong Alkali

    I use a great product called KOENIG stainless steel polish on all my stainless items. It works so good and leaves the surface fingerprint proof. Think of it as cleaner wax. Two step process of cleaning that leaves a dry film that you buff off. Never tried it on a Cybertruck but I bet it will work. Give it a try.

      Or how about a car that has been around since the 80's that's all stainless. how are owners of the DeLorean keeping there car from being finger print magnets or hiding the oily fingerprints. im sure if we dug deep in some forums there is a code that is cracked on how owners of this prestigious vehicle are keeping their panels clean.

    I think I'm going to apply some black non-skid tape along the top of the doors, down to the bend. I think that will be the primary touch-point on the truck, and visually it should just extend the black frame of the side-windows. Easy + durable + cheap. 🙂

    The moment i see a polish bringing out dark residue from steel, that's when i would stop polishing and wipe/rinse it off. You don't want one spot getting all shiny because then you would have to refinish it to get it even looking again.

      It could work if you had a high quality *polishing* micro fiber (like Norwex) but Windex and an off the shelf micro fiber will do a better job. You need a cleaner that will remove oils without leaving residue.

    Huh so that is why any thing used for the Deloren won't work for the cyber truck as the DeLorean is not sanded I don't think and is plain stainless steel... Which I do wonder about upkeep for bear metal planes as while they are alumum they have a even worse to clean finish wise... Though I don't mean polishing like you would do to "repaint" them but just keeping figure prints off and a last minute touch out before a photo shoot. Still great video and good to show why stuff doesn't work.

    well, on a side note.. the truck is so angular, literally anyone could wrap it with a clear wrap. this might be the easiest vehicle in the world to wrap 🤣 and it would only cost a couple/few hundred vs a couple thousand for 'normal' cars. ( if you get it professionally done vs yourself)
    seeing that many fingerprints would drive me crazy so a wrap is definitely needed

    • @solarguy4850
      @solarguy4850 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure people realize this .. but fingerprints can be problem for all cars. When I say “problem” I mean for people who care. They simply are most noticeable on glossy surfaces .. and stainless is quite glossy. In theory, the best car paint / surface treatment would be to first clean, and then apply a superhydrophobic and oleophobic coating.

    • @MarksTech
      @MarksTech ปีที่แล้ว

      @@solarguy4850 the only car I’ve ever had that showed fingerprints is a black car. And that’s only if you stand close. The camera in this video is setup 5-6 feet away from the truck and you can see the fingerprints clear as day. The car I have now is silver metallic., and I can’t see fingerprints until I put my face on the car.

  • @MartinGalway
    @MartinGalway ปีที่แล้ว

    Windex is a great choice, because... you're already using it to clean the windows!!! So there is less stuff to carry along with you in the truck

  • @Gryllus2501
    @Gryllus2501 ปีที่แล้ว

    Barkeeper wouldn’t be for fingerprints. More for bugs, sap, road mud, other gritty stuff. Point to abrasively scrub stuff to clean the metal. Like a brillo pad. Guessing that may scratch or alter the finish.
    I guess some might want to “re-sand” buff the truck surface with sander after long time to deep clean and set a new grain.
    Hmm WD40 would be more of an after scrub, wash, and windex clean. To the cost the truck in a finish to repel water for some anti-rusting point. Perhaps better products or waxes for that.
    Seems everything is going to have a different look and may induce streaks or water beading.
    For people who cannot stand dirty auto look, the Cybertruck will drive them crazy.
    Those people will most likely want their truck wrapped. As it should change the property of stuff sticking and be less noticeable if fingerprints.
    Interesting stuff indeed.
    Nice to know Windex is the best clean looking product on raw steel currently.

Didn't like the Wieman products at all. Since your videos on this I have tried to put fingerprints on our kitchen stainless that were cleaned with the Hope's "Perfect Stainless" product and at least I believe that they are blocked. Obviously have no idea how it will work on the Cybertruck. They sell this on Amazon and Lowes (maybe Walmart) but not Home Depot. Checked and they carry it in Fort Collins.
