  • In May 1972, the CIA launched Operation Thunderhead to rescue escaped American soldiers from a North Vietnamese prison. Here's why James Bond Stockdale and the other "Hanoi Hilton" POWs decided to shut it down.

I left Vietnam in 1968 & had lots of issues of abandonment for the next 30 yrs , when we kicked the shit out of the NVA & VC during Tet , then command came down to hold fast , denied our ability to conduct large scale sweep & clear catching the fleeing army I knew something was rotten , after hearing Walter Cronkite lie & sell America out I decided not to take on another tour & came home , leaving my K 9 Deuce behind to be murdered by an ARVN handler a week after I dusted off , the war was never meant to be won , it was meant to generate revenue for USA & USSR & my best friend gave his life for the greed , nearly 50 yrs later I can still smell my friends fur & feel his breath on me while I sleep , IDK why I even watch these clips because they just make me remember shit I don't need to feel .

Ruben Rojas it was a long war because it was never meant to be won by either side,Vietnam was a cash cow for the USSR & the USA ,it was also a testing ground for advanced weaponry both super powers needed humans to test against .
I was in pleiku before tet took place, moral was high & kill ratios were 20-1,during tet our body counts rose as high as 50-1 yet our corrupt news media announced " the war cannot be won now " & the public went berserk from the lie,in the days following the massive victory of tet orders came down the pipe to immediately halt all search & destroy operations & return to base, where we stood down for weeks while the NVA & VC escaped into Laos & Cambodia .
When op's were reinstated 3 weeks later everything was changed to cripple ground forces ability to prosecute the VC,my 2nd tour was close & I decided not to re up & come home for good,as did many other non com's disillusioned by the new doctrine, once home we quickly realized we did too good of job using search & destroy operations & everything was being slowed down to prolong the war,had we been allowed to aggressively prosecute the NVA & VC immediately following tet the NVA would have collapsed within 90-120 days their losses were so great .
I see the same 2 faced tactics exploited by bush,Obama & if she steals the election Hillary Clinton ,we create enemy's then arm them to fight against our troops as we created mujahideen, all queda & Isis ,now Hillary wants to attack Syria & expand operations to include Iran & Russia, another war with no end the globalists make trillions from .

Pelican1984 he actually did. They agreed to fight on the side of the Allies in World War II in return for independence but France reneged on the deal. And while they were fighting for independence from France a decade later they asked for recognition from the US.
When France gave up and pulled out the US stepped in to make them a colony all over again. This is why Canada didn't fight in this war
But none of this is the fault of the soldiers, most of whom were drafted.

We are independence, because the fact that Japanese army beated France out of Indochina including Vietnam in 1940. This is THE FACT that Vietnamese took the their own independence directly from Japanese. France came back gain in 1946 and Vietnamese beated them again in 1954. During the war with Japan, Vietnamese got the support from the US OSS (the name of CIA at that time). Ho Chi Minh he did want to open the door to Western, because he also did not trust China and FR. The US goverment wants to spread fear into every citizen it has to remain in power by making the Vietnam war (which they failed). They did this again in the 1970's by arming the blacks with weapons, cocain, force them to be addicted to it, and then telling the civilians that drugs are bad and if smoking it will result in getting in prison (which created the War on Drugs). And the ones that get addicted to drugs weren't having any health care that they should have get but only getting thrown into the slammer by the police. And once they got out, they are unemployed and have no money because they were criminals back then. And because of this, the addicted (mostly blacks) started doing felons, forming gangs and robberies to get them some money to live. And the CIA then use this as an excuse to further funding the police and the millitary to tightening control and dominance over the gang-controlled region to make sure the public would see them as "good" and the blacks as "bad". Then, racism takes over, the blacks rebels after the beating of a black citizen by 4 officer members, creating the L.A riot in 1991. The US government once again use this as an excuse to "Protect the civilians in L.A by fighting the "bad" (the blacks)", costing more than 1 billion dollars to quell down the riot. It is just a pandora's box in another pandora's box. Things just fucked up so bad back then.

PRU unit 1, of SEAL team 1, performed prison camp raids in some of the smaller POW camps in the north. Without a doubt one of these units was probably responsible for smuggling the device into Hanoi. Many of the camps, the Communists had already moved the prisoners, which they often did. They wouldn't leave them in one place for very long. One of the men I served with decades ago was part of these personal reconnaissance units with the SEAL Teams. Moreover, The Phoenix Program, and prison raids such as bat bat prison, were ongoing operations in the attempt to free prisoners, among other operations. The Communists were pretty intelligent about it. However in this short video, prisoners would not have been sitting down at a table drinking and chatting and smoking together, in the actual real situation. They were segregated, individually tortured, and many starve to death, and died because of the physicality inflicted upon them. During this era, the SEAL Teams had amazing anonymity, operating clandestine and unknown operations to the rest of the world. Much of these same type of operations still exist today, in the form of DEVGRU.

Delta force was going to launch a raid into Vietnam in the late 70's to rescue pow's that were left behind. A Congressman found out, eager for the Vietnam episode in American history to pass he leaked planning of the operation to US media. The few remaining pow's were executed and their bodies never recovered, effectively scrubbing the mission.

From first to last, the mission was so highly compartmentalized that I’m sure only a handful of people know the whole story.
But from what I know firsthand and have learned from individuals I trust, I believe some of those who were in the know made a desperate, and ultimately successful, attempt to make sure no live Americans would emerge from captivity in Vietnam.

Nubbinz Which is how it should be. No country should use WMD to win a war. That is a war crime and would be extremely hypocritical of the US to use nukes especially in Vietnam where nuclear fallout is a real threat to neighbouring countries.

This said ending date of this war does not coincide with what many veterans have told me. We still had troops over there in early 1975. And they were not there peacefully either.
