- John Stockwell left the CIA when he decided that what they were doing was endangering national security not protecting it.
John R. Stockwell (born 1937) is a former CIA officer who became a critic of United States government policies after serving seven tours of duty over thirteen years. Having managed American involvement in the Angolan Civil War as Chief of the Angola Task Force during its 1975 covert operations, he resigned and wrote In Search of Enemies.
As a Marine, Stockwell was a CIA paramilitary intelligence case officer in three wars: the Congo Crisis, the Vietnam War, and the Angolan War of Independence. His military rank is Major. Beginning his career in 1964, Stockwell spent six years in Africa, Chief of Base in the Katanga during the Bob Denard invasion in 1968, then Chief of Station in Bujumbura, Burundi in 1970, before being transferred to Vietnam to oversee intelligence operations in the Tay Ninh province and was awarded the CIA Intelligence Medal of Merit for keeping his post open until the last days of the fall of Saigon in 1975.
In December 1976, he resigned from the CIA, citing deep concerns for the methods and results of CIA paramilitary operations in Third World countries and testified before Congressional committees. Two years later, he wrote the exposé In Search of Enemies, about that experience and its broader implications. He claimed that the CIA was counterproductive to national security, and that its "secret wars" provided no benefit for the United States. The CIA, he stated, had singled out the MPLA to be an enemy in Angola despite the fact that the MPLA wanted relations with the United States and had not committed a single act of aggression against the United States. In 1978 he appeared on the popular American television program 60 Minutes, claiming that CIA Director William Colby and National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger had systematically lied to Congress about the CIA's operations.

I just watched a lecture that John Stockwell presented to students at an American College, back in 1989. A lot of what he told the audience was probably shocking to most of them.... Some of what he talked about, I already knew, but for the rest of his talk, I had no idea... All-In-All it was really great to listen to what John said....

You can find the James Files interview on Rumble on the JFK assassination. He was the Grassy knoll shooter and he was outed by a retired FBI agent. He admitted it was himself. His story is 2 hours long. Highly detailed, with zero hesitation. His primary job was that of Mafia driver for the top hitman in Chicago. He was trained by the army and excellent marksman. Files makes no claim about how many shots or killers on scene. He says he fired one round from a Remington Fireball, which was a CIA prototype not yet on the market for sale. He was with the #1 mob hitman in Chicago, Charles Nicoletti, who was in the DAL TEX building with his spotter, Johnny Roselli Cleary there were others who fired rounds but Files does not guess. My research is 11 rounds fired, with 4 hitting JFK, but how many shooters is not clear. This video was on YT for a few years, but got pulled.

I've seen John Stockwell in an interview from the 70's or early 80's in a video called [ The Last CIA Whistleblower ] on the channel The Film Archives.
He goes into detail about his time in Africa and Vietnam and the books he's written.
John Stockwell is the blueprint to teach us what is going on. You cannot fathom what their evil power is doing on American soil today!
The Film Archives is an unbelievably great channel.
He does say a lot , but the info is fairly surface stuff. As to the Angola spin, I am sure if you spent time in that nation, you could find the truth of the conflict.
He does give the outsider a proper frame of mind in how to think about so called conflicts around the world.

For others that've read Stockwell's book "In Search of Enemies" - note attentively how he frames the entrance of Cuban forces and the sudden withdrawal of South African forces. Through other sources I subsequently learned they fought directly, and the Cubans won. It seems clear that he was censored from stating as much, and could only frame the issue and hope the reader could connect the dots.
I was in Angola, the Cubans never 'won', we were pulled out due to a unilateral agreement made by Cuba and RSA to both pull out, giving SWA independence. We could have taken all of Angola but were stopped by the CIA.
