Ceramic brakes are an option, and save 6.6 pounds (surely this is per wheel) for a total of 26.4 pounds. A Lithium-Ion battery is a $1700 option that saves 22 pounds of weight. Aftermarket exhaust could also save even more weight + add a few more HP The Boxster Spyder is a gorgeous pure sports car, it is not for everyone. Make mine w/all options above and in White ;-)

"take the car back to its historical roots".......that's not a good excuse for a pain the arse top..... Just live in SoCal and never put the top on the car. Personally, if you want a daily driver convertible, a base Boxster is all you really need. Anything else like a collector car or performance I think should be a coupe .... and take your pick, Porsche has some great options now.

it looks horribly ugly. sorry to disappoint but theres not need for this kind of car. the murcielago roadster got bad comments because of its manual roof. that option with this porsche design are not well though out.

The 718 spyder is so much better than this it looks pretty much the same and the top is still manual but none of the hand rolling stuff the top never disconnects from the car it just rolls back
This is one nicest Porsches ever! Want to be in a confortable ride? buy a Merc or BMW.. This car is not for you. It is beautiful, exotic, sexy and impractical ... like a real sports car should be... A test in a porsche magazine said "the good thing about the manual top is that it will separate the ocasional cruising drivers with the seroius sport drivers" I can´t wait to get my hands on one of these beauties!!!
I have to say I totally understand the top. This car is a SPYDER, with a wonderful concession to practicality in the shape of a fully functional roof. This is a hardcore sportscar, like its Speedster/Spyder cousins. Its not a droptop convertible for cruising down to the mall in.
porsche is definitely different; they remove things that are normally standard and then charge you extra for not having them. if that's the case then their cars should be cheaper the more equipment they have on them, lol.

the most pure driving vehicle I have ever been behind the wheel of was a co-workers 97 Boxster. The way the car responded... the accelerator... the steering... the shifter and the clutch... all while the sun was one me. It's been years and I still smile :)))))
@m5dinan - actually that is debateable. I love 911's but a Boxster is lighter and is more balanced because it's mid-engine. Also the 959 and the Carrera GT are the "ultimate" Porsche's.

Porsche needs to really rethink the top. The design of the new back end is much improved, but guess what: it's still a Boxster.
I would stick with the standard top. Not suppose to go over 100 mph with the top on.
You need to sort out a decent microphone mate, the wind noise and interference was awful!!!!

I like these meaningless complex hand build installation steps! It's just like the gull wing in Mercedes SLS, useless but great fun.
